Hi All,
Yesterday i purchased a new windows phone. Samsung Omnia W. It's amazing... The only problem is with the media transfer. For me i felt like ZUNE is complicated & very very slow. I am not able to transfer videos to my phone. Is there a way i can transfer the videos without ZUNE ? If not is there any easy way to transfer music/videos easily & fast. Please help me... Thanks to all in advance. Badly need experts help.
Thank you......
There are other ways but it is strongly not suggested. If you can't transfer it from the Zune desktop software then that means your videos are not compatible with Windows Phone.

Hi... I found few videos which i was able to tranfer. ZUNE runs very very slow. Also a 175mb .avi file took almost 30-40mins to sync. If thats the case then it will be a nightmare everyday. Please some one help me....

Are you sure Zune directly transferred it? Seems to me it was converting and THEN transferring it. That's might be the reason why it took so long. I use Vidcoder to convert my video files (blazing fast) and then sync them using Zune. The sync process is only a matter of 2 or 3 minutes.

Actually your video files seems to be of higher resolution than WP supports.
You can either convert with other softwares and sync it ot leave the work to Zune for better conversion

Hi... Those were low resolution videos only. Still took its own time. Wish i has usb option to just transfer the files to the phone memory. I doubt WP supports usb on the go. Im pretty sure, it wont.

Here you go.
And you should import and use the attached file as preset. Works like a charm.
Hey i am unsure as in what to do with the attached file. It will be great if you guide me through the steps. Please do mind me asking, do help me.

No problem at all. Just unzip the attachment anywhere you like, then start vidcoder. In vidcoder you click "Tools" -> Import Preset... and choose the file you just extractet. It will automatically add itself to the list of presets (dropdown in the program window somewhere on the bottom). That's it. Now you can open any video file (or simply drag and drop it there) and it will be converted.

Hello,
I really like this phone but there was something that was bothering me from day one. Is there anyway to download media/audio files DIRECTLY off the phone without the use of a computer? For example when my friend sends me an audio file as an attachment and I try to download it, it just opens and streams and if I leave the small app that it opens in it is gone. However, I want to be able to actually download the file and just listen to it offline in normal zune player. Is there any method/hack/homebrew todo this?
I have an LG Quantum unlocked
Thanks You!
Yes there is, look HERE, works for me. (Win7 64bit + WP7 HTC 7 Pro)

is it supposed to show up as a mass storage now ? i did the trick and it doesnt ... havent restarted comp tho
Thanks CP Geek for your reply. I am aware of that trick and it is great! However, that wasn't exactly what I meant. I meant that I am browsing the internet on my phone and trying to download an audio file to my phone's "Music and Video" hub. In other words I want to be able to download online audio files without the use of a computer at all...
Any takers on this?
at the moment i dont think this is possible ive asked this same question myself with no luck. The file thats streaming is on the device somewhere
this may help u out
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/general-windows-phone-7-discussions/142164-how-download-mp3s-internet.html
now im hoping that with mango or a future update they let u download files through the browser on my windows mobile i download rar, mp3 and zip files all the time and update my library all on my phone on the go without a computer, i hate being tied down to having to use a computer
Yeah that's exactly what I wanted todo Deadwrong.
I checked the thread it looks like they have some progress. Its unfortunate though that they don't have a full solution yet. I was actually thinking of taking a different approach on the matter. If we look at the registry it appears that there are some keys that tell the phone how to deal with PDFs and how to open them. There should be something for telling the OS how to interact with audio files as well. I was wondering maybe it is possible to change that to something that instructs it to download to Music and Videos.
I would think if there's a way to buy music on the phone, then it'd just be a matter of knowing where on the phone to save the files and that would ope up a world of downloading or syncing possibilities outside of using the Zune software.
Does exist some way how to save mp3 to directly to zune, some hack ?
Thanks.
Sorry, what do you mean? Are you talking about a file you downloaded off the Internet using the phone directly, and you want to add it to the music library? No, not currently (though it might be possible later). Are you talking about a file you downloaded using a PC? Just add it to "My Music" or another folder that the Zune software monitors. It's kind of possible to save files into the phone directly (search for USB storage hack) but it's better to sync them using Zune.
I ment download directly to Zune.
Will someone hack it?
Your title is misleading. I thought you had a solution!

Using almost the exact words, with almost no details to clarify what you are wanting does not help.
Try describing what you actually are asking for.
Use pictures if necessary.
Files are downloaded to either your phone or computer when you purchase songs.
Then you sync your phone with your computer and they are in both places.
What more are you asking for?
Are you asking for a program to run on your computer to get music that you purchase on your phone?
Are you asking for ways to get an mp3 of music from a Zune Pass? (this isn't a prirate site)
Are you asking for ways to put your music onto your SkyDrive and then get them from your computer?
We are not mind readers. You need to accurately describe your question, or expect no help.
Hello guys,
I m new on this forum. I m from Belgium so sorry for my english...

not yet. it'll come, but might be a while. yeah, the interop is annoying, but we'll get it eventually.
You really don't need a file explorer. Documents go to the Office hub. Photos go to the Photos hub. PDFs will go to the PDF Reader app (in the Store), and Music lives in the Music+Videos hub. If you want, you can use your free SkyDrive (skydrive.com, log in with your existing Microsoft account) to store whatever you like. You can then access that from the phone using the SkyDrive app in the Windows Phone Store.
Windows Phone does a great job of organizing your data for you. It is not like Android, and will take some getting used to. It is better than an iPhone, though, which restricts you even more, dumbing things down way too far, IMO.

Windows Phone does a great job.. but nothing will ever do a better job than a user who knows what he's doing..
I personally find it extremely frustrating that I can't download a file from my email.. and store it somewhere to attach and send it off to someone else later.
If someone sends me a zip file and I want to store it on my phone.. how does that happen?!

That is a valid point, for users that do actually know what they're doing. It would be nice if Windows Phone provided a sandboxed area to store any type of file, either downloaded via the browser or from an email. However, .zip files can be opened from an email and their contents saved to the phone (if a file type supported by either the built-in functions or an app). Those files can then be re-attached to a new email. You could also just forward the email to someone else, modifying the contents, if you want to send the entire .zip. There is an app in the Store alled Archiver that will open .rar, .gz, .tar, .7z, and .bz2 files and save them for later.

was just using the zip as a reference file.. but it could be anything..
They should really make an app that is a file explorer.
I don't have a WP phone, but I know there's NO WAY to root it or jailbreak. Root = ONLY Android. Jailbreak = ONLY Apple products.
AW: [Q] htc 8x root or jailbreak
I think they mean something similar to root or jailbreak, not exactly the same

Hi,
Can I ask how to install a .xap app to HTC 8X when you have downloaded from the web page market (pc).
There is no storage card inside the mobile market as the instruction are given from microsoft.
Is there any app that allows you to make a folder on your computer which you can just drag and drop files into it and it then downloads to your phone instantly.. or near enough to it?
I don't want the hassle of having to (as an example) placing a file into drop box > open drop box > locate file > save file.
Is there any such thing?
Dropbox has a feature like this. You download the application on your PC (OS X, Linux, or Windows) and you set it up with your personal infomation. It'll create a folder and that folder is a synced folder.
It'll be automatically on your Dropbox and then you can download it onto your phone via the app or vice versa.
Edit: This is just a folder on your computer. Completely breaks the use of using the actual Dropbox site.

Okay.. after trying them all out... here's what iv found.
Can't seem to get drop box synced so that it automatically downloads onto my phone. I have synced enabled.
Pushbullet is prettttty good! Only thing is that i have to open the app and save the file
Airdroid is perfect except that it only has 100mb (free)
And after thinking about it.. Google+ is pretty good for sharing pictures between phone and PC.
I will keep using them all until i find the one that suits me most!
Thank you all! (i will thank you all later since iv gave 8 thanks already today lol)

I am pretty sure if you transfer files within the same network (mostly connected to the same Wifi) with Airdroid, there is no limit.

Ok, so my buddy had an app downloaded from the google play store. back when the S4 Mini was newish. He had some kind of photo/file locker app which all i can tell you is it made a folder on the internal storage simply called "Locker" and all the encrypted files that were locked with that app were in there but of course un-readable because that are apparently actually encrypted to some extent. the phone went overboard in the salt water, couldnt be repaired but i managed to get it running enough to pull the "locker" folder with all the locked data off the storage. He doesnt remember the name of the app used and no longer has the google account to look at his download history to find it. but the icon was blue-ish and it created a folder called "locker" on the storage. he entered his passcode on a dialpad looking menu and boom, his locked files showed up. but thats all i know about it. hes trying to get that data readable again, and changing the extension to jpeg or jpg or png didnt work. just wondering if anyone here may have some sugguestions of apps to try to get these files readable again, if i could find the exact program used my plan was to install it on his new phone. set a password and lock a random picture so this way the program would created all the directories or whatever it needed, and i can copy the recovered files from the old phone and copy them into the new phone in the appropriate directory, and hopefully unlock those files. sorry if im jumping around alot. so im trying to find a way to make these files readable again is the end goal. ive tried for days to get them unlocked. and if anyone can help me they are on these forums. Any help ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I uploaded one of the smaller files which should be the image and one of the larger ones which should be the video. both just say there are no previews available when i try and open either of them.
If the files were encrypted then no matter which app you use, you won't be able to open them. You need to decrypt them first. To decrypt them you need the password they were encrypted with and the encrypting/decrypting algorithm (provided by the locker app). I would try to find the app (and copy the files to its folder), or try to decrypt it using various decrypting algorithms, provided the app uses a standard well-known one.
