noob CWD mistake - HTC Sensation

Ok, I need a little help. I wanted to flash Android Revolution HD 6.0.1(ICS 4.0.3) on my HTC Sensation (T-mobile USA). I was using this tutorial:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300. After I got S-Off to work I began to flash CWD. I made the mistake of copying the wrong PG58IMG.zip file over. Instead of CWD it was the updated ICS firmware. Now I'm stuck with HBOOT 1.23.0000, no CWD, no root. Where should I go from here? Should I try to fix the HBOOT or try to flash CWM another way. Do I need to use ADB? Here is a pic of what I'm working with.

if you s-off you should be able flash the 1.17 eng hboot and go to any rom and flash anything from fastboot,

Hi,
You could try to get hboot 1.17 HERE back on your phone.
Then try to finish the s-off process.

so how would I get HBOOT 1.17.0000 back on my phone since I get an error every time I try to flash it through a PG58IMG.zip file? Any links to tutorials I missed?

Hi,
Place the 1.17 PG58IMG.zip on the root of your sd card using a card reader.
Make sure you do a MD5 checksum of the zip(google it)
Power down the phone,or remove the battery.
Power on holding down volume - and power button.
Let the update go through.
When it finishes,go back in to ROM and delete the PG58IMG.zip.
If you cannot get into ROM,remove the card and use card reader in PC.
You should then be able to carry on "Revolutionary".

Ooo you should be s-off still even after your did IMG.zip
if you completed the s-off before the you flashed the ICS then your s-off should still be there it wont show but its there, if you can try then IMG.zip that has the hboot 1.17

I did that. I'm not that much a noob. That is the problem I was asking in the first place. I cannot update that way. It says "Update Fail" on the screen. Also, the phone is S-OFF, didn't even flash the rom yet. Thanks for your help so far.

Ok I see the picture cause its saying incorrect phone model there is a pdimg.zip that will put your cid to 11111 once that done you should be able to.use and pdimg.zip

Ok, so where would I find that?

Ok, I had to use HTC dev tools to unlock bootloader, then use adb tools to ensure cid was 11111111. Then flashed bootloader back to 1.17.0000. Thanks for the guidance. Was more rewarding to figure somethings out instead of being guided through every step.

It is not mentioned in the firmware topic, but it seems important to do SuperCID before flashing the new firmware in case of problems. I've seen this problem elsewhere on this forum.
But it's nice to know that there is still a solution even if you do not have SuperCID.

If you're rooted then you're s-off'd then I recommend that you stay away from OTA's if you want better software go for a custom rom.

You can fallback to S-ON, and then OTA update then S-OFF and Root again.
You can follow my diagram below in order to fallback to S-ON.

I don't suggest doing an OTA update it only screws the Stock ROM, I did mine and it had Hell Battery Drain.. so I decided to S-OFF and ROOT mine
When you are S-OFF and install other ROM, you can't install an official ROM via OTA.
If the ROM installed is OTA updateable, you can download it from: Rom Manager app from Market.
I've just a question about the passage from the state SHIP S-OFF 6.98.1002 to SHIP S-ON 0.98.000x: since it is necessary to use RUU, does the phone get wiped? What if I use Linux?

In this case you can download RUU in ZIP format, rename it to PG88IMG.zip, copy to SD card and reboot your phone to bootloader to flash.
You can find RUU in zip format here:
http://goo-inside.me/ruu/saga/full
BTW you have to switch your hboot to ENG S-OFF 0.98.2000 first.
(see my diagram above)
I am a bit puzzled... So is it possible to s-on again (to ota update ofcourse) without full wipe?? I truely hate backup/restore in gigabyte era...

According to my diagram above, you will fallback to s-on by executing RUU file, and this will do full wipe ofcourse.
I'm not sure if we can flash S-ON hboot over hboot ENG S-OFF 0.98.2000 by fastboot or adb command or not.
Hi. Thanks for the answer. All pretty much clear now...
Hi,
Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm not sure what (if anything) I would need to do to get this official ROM and ideally rooted when available.
I am currently S-Off via XTC Clip and rooted, my H-Boot details are: 0.98.002.
From previous experience I cannot do an OTA update but in any event need root.
Sorry to be stupid but any ideas what I would need to do when a rooted version of the update becomes available.
Many thanks,
Damian

[Q] hang up at HTC sreen ,device S-on, HELP !!!

My phone was hang up at HTC screen ,
in Hboot, it show S-On,
tried to run the RUU (2.31.720.2, same as the current rom version with the device) and PG88IMG.zip flashing.
Both stuck at Bootloader flashing,
any idea ??
appreciated for help ...
You've posted in wrong section. I requested this post to be moved in general or q&a section.
However, I don't think RUU 2.31.720.2 exists for Desire S.
Are you sure it is named "RUU_Saga_xxx... ?", and that you have a Desire S ? (Not Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z...)
Could you post what first lines your bootloader is showing ?
from "SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL" to a date ?
Do you bought your phone with a carrier contract or bought it unbranded ?
You should download either this :
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cfd...22U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed.exe -> 2.10.401.5 (Stock Desire S Sense 3 rom)

If you have a branded phone, these RUUs may don't work (CID error). Try and report back.
Hi Floatshow,
This unit is bought without any contract,
seach from google, it said this unit is from India.
it ready come with 2.31.720.2, refer below print screen:

and below is the screen that hang up at bootloader.
at RUU mode
at SD image update mode
you can try to s-off
http://revolutionary.io/
so you can flash a recovery and repair your phone without problems
(if you flash a ruu you will lose the new hboot and the recovery
Try pouring water on your phone. Also I heard a rumor that slowly waving a magnet around your computers hard drive 27 times, can fix any problem.

That's weird... I don't know India versions.
So the India RUU failed when flashing Bootloader ? in fastboot ?
Can you boot into Android ?
Do you have custom recovery installed or stock one ?
In any case, just boot into recovery, and Wipe Data/factory reset.
Maybe you will be able to boot into android again.

Yup, will just hang up at bootloader flashing.
& now can't boot into Android OS.
The recovery is stock version,
have any method to flashing the recovery to custom recovery ?
tried Revolutionary, but this method need to run under charging mode, it seem like didn't working while the phone is hang in HTC screen.
any idea ?
Well you can try Wipe data/factory reset from stock recovery. As ruu didn't flashed system, data or anything, maybe android will boot...
And you can't use Revolutionary.
If factory reset doesn't work, your really last chance is to use xtc clip.
Or send it back for warranty purposes. Because with hboot-0.98, s-on, and unworking ruu, i don't think there's much choices.
So : xtc clip or warranty.

You should have a GoldCard for you to RUU to any version.
If your hboot is still the old S-ON, here is no way for you to flash a custom recovery.
You really won't be able to use revolutionary on your phone on that state.
In this case, your option is to upgrade the hboot (GoldCard might be needed) then unlock it then flash custom recovery. Use search for those.methods.
Hint! My second guide.
P.S
Before doing anything, you should learn and identify where you need to place your posts first.

Stock with HTC logo during boot after RUU on top of clockworkmod+cyanogenmod

Hi all
Sorry for another thread so soon, but I'm in a very sad situation after I tried to fix my problem described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381432
So I downgraded from hboot 2.00.0002 til hboot 0.98.0000, s-off'ed using Revolutionary, Revolutionary offered to install ClockWorkMod which I accepted. Using clockworkmod I installed CyanogenMod 7.1. Due to problems with the touch functionality I decided to try to revert back to stock 2.10.401.5.
I read that this could be done just using the official RUU, so I connected my phone in fastboot-mode, ran RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed which detected my phone as "1.28.xx" (which was the version I flashed on during the downgrade) and the RUU went on without error and said "Congratulations, your phone bla bla". But then the phone reboots and never gets further than the green HTC logo on white background.
What am I to do? I can still connect to the phone via fastboot. ClockworkMod recovery console is gone, pressing recovery now just gives the default HTC recovery.

Flash recovery via fastboot.
EDIT:
Lol spastic I just realised what you tried to do. I'm going to leave you a hint, nothing more, and nothing less. This has been explained numerous times over the forum, you could simply do some reading and solve your problem.
All those two images show is that your radio has changed, and the reason your hboot is still the same is because the Revolutionary hboot is protected.
Lastly, on a "general" consensus, people who have no clue about the hardware they've purchased shouldn't be tampering with it.
Sorry, I completely panicked last night after it happened.
This morning, without reading anything other than your post (which was encouraging), I thought of a wealth of options.
One, which was the one i followed, was:
#1: Connect the phone via fastboot
#2: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-saga.img
#3: now ClockworkMod was working again
#4: choose "back up and restore"
#5: restore my original nandroid backup
But now I will do some reading on how to properly revert back to stock
Thanks
Wuhtzu
Hmmm .. this is rather different to the replies I normally get.
I'll be maybe a little more helpfull. Try flashing the Engineering HBOOT, get rid of the Revolutionary HBOOT, its nothing more than trouble.
Use this HBOOT (0.98.2000).

Flash that HBOOT using these instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18122984&postcount=237
Don't bother with 2.00.2002, it just reduces your cache by 150mb, and donates it to the system partition.

I'm not sure I follow you. All I meant is that I successfully got my self back to the situation where I have revolutionary hboot, clockworkmod recovery and where I'm able to flash the ROMs I want. So that's all good. All you did here was hinting something like "pull your self together and so some more research"

For this next part I'm blown away. How could you know that I actually wanted to get rid of the Revolutionary Hboot while not wanting the 2.00.0002 hboot? Because that's precisely what I want to do - I have touch screen issues and need to check if it's all this rooting/s-off'ing/custom-ROMing that's to blame - so I need a hboot which will let me use stock RUUs.

If your phone is super-CID, i.e 11111111 you can flash RUU..
that is the only way to reset H BOOT..
before flashing RUU unlock your boot-loader from here:
http://htcdev.com/
to be on a safe side go to authorized customer care center and tell them to re-flash the ROM using RUU (ROM update utility) they may charge some amount but your phone will be factory reset with S-OFF..
again you can root from the start..
(WARNING: flash the RUU with your own risk.)

I'm in the same bandwagon: hboot 1.23, S-on and supercid. I unlocked the bootloader with htc dev and I can confirm that trying to install a RUU always end in error 155, directly or from fastboot. And extracting the zip and installing from hboot, doen't work either.
I've tried every method I could find, including tacoroot and the very helpful guide from trkaaa, but nothing works.
Our best bet is to wait for Revolutionary to update.

Hi,
In terms of the storage,I have seen this before, and it is just a "quirk" of ICS.
It is just what is in the build.prop
You are lucky, indeed,to find s-off straight out of the box.
Check my signature (☺ A great starting point for all new Sensation owners ☺)
Look for the guide by ganesh for the rooting.
Look for the guide by joaquinf for the installation of the custom recovery, 4EXT.
Android upgrading will occur every time you clear cache and dalvik, when you reboot.
Nothing to worry about.
Thank you for your reply.
Only thing that concerns me is my hboot version (1.27.0000) as all guides talk about 1.18 or lower...

Hi,
Have a look at the list I gave you.
#2 from ganesh deals with your hboot.
#12 from joaquinf will guide you through the 4 EXT recovery installation.
Thank you for your time. I'll give it a shot!
I did it. Phone is rooted, installed ARHD rom.
I did not flash their firmware, bootloader is still *LOCKED*... what should i do? Should i ulnock it? How to unlock it? HTCdev?
Also, i can't flash touch recovery. I installed regular one via rom manager from google play..

Hi,
If you are s-off,you do not need to involve HTC at all.
The locked means you are restricted when you want to use fastboot commands.
Try using HASSOON'S TOOL to install 4EXT.
Stay away from Rom Manager.
It is not a very good tool.
EDIT:
Actually,if you installed ARHD,then, you will have 4EXT,as it gets installed on first boot.
You can go to market and upgrade it.
It is not expensive, and it helps the developer.
I just tried that tool. It takes me to htcdev to get unlock token.. but htcdev is out of order at the moment...
I will try again tonight...

Hi,
As ganesh says,do not use HTC.
Check your recovery.
Like I said,if you installed ARHD,you should have 4EXT,as it is included in the package.
ok if you want unlocked hboot/eng-hboot ..just do these steps one by one from fastboot
1.get the controlbear ics folder from here
2.extract the zip and go to that folder
3.open command prompt there (if windows hold shift + right click -> open command window here)
4.and then type controlbear -i
thats all ..it will install juopunutbear hboot aka unlocked hboot
Thank you both very much! Everything worked! juopunutbear hboot, 4ext, cid, root, custom rom! All is good.
Unfortunately, i can not make a donation or buy anything because i live in one messed up country...
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!
