I have the same question. I am beginning to think the answer is no because it is CDMA not GSM, but that is what hacking is about, seeing a door where other people see a wall.
I wouldn't mind taking the phone apart and installing the GSM hardware. If the HW is the same there should be a hack for manually entering the SIM Card ID #s...

CDMA Touch Pro 2 with GSM?

Hey people, sorry if there is already a post for this but i'm a little confused about my phone. Is it possible for the verizon touch pro 2 to be used on GSM networks like AT&T? (I think its GSM) or overseas like in europe? A lot of people are saying yes and no, i just want some clarification.
Thanks. Just got my Touch pro 2 like 3 weeks ago and still figuring everything out. lol
The Verizon TP2 has both CDMA and GfSM, The phone is unlocked will work on edge band here in the states on T-Mobile and *((. Overseas without unlocking it will work on some 3G netwiroks depending the bands.
Yes to your question....
Verizon Wireless is not strictly CDMA; it too is GSM 850 in rural areas you expect AT&T to cover, and in fact T-Mobile has roaming agreements with on the 850 spectrum. It's not at all uncommon for VW to have GSM where it's bought a previous GSM territory as it did recently in both Alabama (Unicel) and Louisiana (Centennial Communications); both GSM 850.
ya. it will work. its a quad band phone. so you'll get 3g on t-mobile and att.
I got my SIM unlocked and threw in my buddy's T-mo SIM and made a phone call. The caller ID came up with his #.
yes i worked for me.. i used http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/ and it was a breeze.. im using a sprint touch pro 2... with Verizon firmware.. on the At&t network..
Only issues i have so far is my internet settings mess everyone once in a while and i have to reapplya At&t internet settings cab i have.. and i cant get 3g to work.. just Edge. and my MMS only sends.. i'm having issues with recieving MMS. Not sure if these issues are fixable but hopefully.

Mine is doing that as well. How can we fix that?
Hey guys, one quick question:
I'm interested in buying tis phone but sadly I cant seem to find one available in Toronto or Markham (Ontario) so i'm thinking of buying one from TELUS (CDMA) since i heard they are sim un-lockable.
This post is merely a request for re-confirmation about that ability.
Will I be able to buy the HTC Touch Pro2 from Telus and sim-unlock it to use on Rogers/Fido Networks? Any limitations/advantages?
Can Telus do that unlock for me or is it a DIY software method?
I'm sorry if come off somewhat noob in my question :x I'm not new to the phone development but I havent been involved in the scene for almost 2 years and jus wanted a nudge in the right direction
Seems like a fun phone, esp with the ability to dual-boot android (i hate wm6...lol). Thanks again

Yes there is one limitation. If you have the Rogers/Fido Id caller (7$ option), it will not work on the phone.
Instead of showing the caller name and number(even if he is not in your contacts), It will only show the Number.

wow that sucks :/
so if someone i dont know calls me, (even with the callder ID service) only their number will show up? -_-
no way to get around that? i get a lot of people who call me outside of my contact list and it'd be annoying to not know whos calling lol
thanks for the reply

i'm pretty sure there is nothing to fix. since are using someone elses sim it is assigned to their phone number. the only sim that would show with your number would probably be the one that came with the phone. (if it did come with one). i have no idea how it would grab your number from the cdma radio but i guess thats how the stock one knows your #. if you put a different sim in it, it will have a different number.

DO NOT put a gsm rom on a sprint touch pro2! your phone is cdma!
well i ran into this problem on my htc fuze that i put a custom rom on for rogers. caller id would only display the phone number and not name. after few days of searching i have found a (rilphone for rogers CNAP.cab this is gsm patch dont try on cdma phone wont work) patch for the radio just install from phone soft reset and caller id with name worked. But that was a gsm phone. i dont know if maybe can work on some radio cab patch that could get this to work as well. Just posting this to see if anyone is up for the challenge.

[Q]HTC Droid Incredible, HTC Evo 4G & HTC Legend in Canada

Hello,
I read a few articles on the net indicating that the HTC Droid Incredible and the Evo 4g may have problems working correctly in canada. My service provider is FIDO and i'm looking to get a new phone for myself. The two listed above are the ones that most interest me. I wanted to know if there were any known issues with unlocking these phones and getting them to work with a FIDO sim card and if there were any known issues with surfing the internet with these phones in Canada (FIDO specifically)
Thanks!
In short: Evo and Incredible will NEVER work with a sim card. They are CDMA phones, and therefor don't use sim cards . Sorry
well thats very disappointing news. thank you for making me aware of this.
I have another follow-up question. Since the droid and the evo are out, what about the HTC legend? I was reading that the frequency that fido operates on is different than what this phone does. I dont pretend to understand what that means so i would greatly appreciate if someone could explain and perhaps let me know if this phone is an option for use on FIDO's network.

[Q] HTC Sensation in Japan, CDMA

Ok, I just come to Japan for university studies. So I will be staying for a long time. For your information, Japan has only CDMA networks to reduce crimes like phone stealing
I just came to Japan at 28 so there are a few things I have learnt about their wireless network. Firstly, Japanese do not use 'phones calling', they use 'data calling'. Surprisingly their network has WiMAX with unlimited data plan. So they can just online the whole day without afraid of anything. Cool... Btw, the mobile internet there (everybody in Japan use mobile internet to call and SMS, Google Map and Skype are most popular) are damn fast, rated at 76mbps with a true peak 7.5mb/sec when downloading things with a phone.
It sounds cool, but I have met some problems and I have some questions to ask.
# I have only brought my HTC Sensation to Japan and it is currently my only phone.
1. I know Evo 3d has GSM version and also CDMA version. I know this sounds stupid but is HTC Sensation Cdma capable? I expect it is a dual mode capable phones.
2. If HTC Sensation is GSM only phone, I will rent a new phone like 4S or HTC One. But... Sadly, the Japanese shocked and she said that she never see a HTC Sensation and still haven't heard about HTC One. If HTC Sensation is dual capable. I wonder is flashing the ROM will wipe out my number? See below for more information.
*Ok, I am new to Cdma and I dun really know what it is. I researched and found out that it has no sim card. Or should I say... Normally dun use sim card. Luckily I found some Japanes carriers offering CDMA SIM CARD. Now that's cool. If it has a sim card. I would just flashing the ROM then insert the card whenever I want. But if it does not have a sim card, how does my phone connect itself to the network provider? Did they just see my machine code or what? Does flashing a new ROM make my phone lose its capability to connect to the network provider?
* Even if HTC is GSM only, I hope someone can teach me if flashing a new ROM on a CDMA device do any harm.
Ariscelia*
OK,
It has been more than a week since your post, so it may be irrelevant now...
I a not sure what kind of sensation you have, but I just assumed they are all the same. At least with my phone, when I was in Japan last month I just put in my Softbank SIM and everything works OK.
There are 2 tyes of CDMA, and as long as you go with Docomo or Softbank (who use the W-CDMA) your sensation should be ok. Stay away from AU, cos it is the non-compatible other CDMA

[Q] Get T-Mobile ''4G'' on international unlocked version?

Okay, so I moved to the US last year from germany and bought there the unlocked HTC Sensation which is really liked so i just switched my Vodafone Sim with a T-Mobile Sim, everything worked fine, i got perfect signal and "4G" or it showed on my sensation a HSPA. Everything fine.
But a few days ago i got the HTC One S Unlocked international version, which i really love. So after cutting my sim and putting it in I noticed that I only get Edge with my phone. First i thought there was something wrong with my sim, so i went to tmobile an got a new microsim. But still the same... so i googled a little and found out that compared to the tmobile htc one s the international version doesnt support the AWS frequency (1700/2100mhz). But i think both versions have the same chip so it must be able somehow to enable the AWS frequnecy, so after hours of looking i still couldn't find anything.. I read that i could put a tmobile ruu on it, but i am not sure about this if this works or of there are other ways to get 4G on my HTC One S
Well, With the Sensation, The US 4G version had an extra gold pin on the back, Like an antenna. So you would never get 4G on a non 4G phone.
However, Some users believe that there is no such thing as 4G and that its all a hype.
But what you can do is modify the signal icons (.png files) and replace the H icon with a 4G icon, So whenever you get a HSPA signal, Your phone will show 4G..

More than likely a hardware limitation.
The internation version can't get T-Mobile 3G/4G, as you stated, they use different frequencies.

You can't change the radio hardware with software.
