ClockworkMod/SD card question? - HTC Sensation

After installing ClockworkMod can I format my SD card or does it need the SD card to work? I have tons of junk on my SD & I wanted to start clean. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

You can format sd card without affecting.CWM, just remember to get any backup files off the card first

If you download ROM Manager from the market, you can partition your SD card. Just keep in mind when you partition your SD card all of your files are deleted, so make a backup of SD card prior to partitioning, then restore after. Hope that helps.

Android Recovery That Supports External SD Card

Hey guys!
Is there any recovery tool like ClockWork recovery, that allows "install zip from external SD"?
Thanks in advance!
External SD? How would that work? Where would you put the sd?

"External" means not internal. Like memory card, the one you put to get extra memory on the phone.

But all Recovery tools work with sd card. Unless I'm misunderstanding something?
They don't instal recovery onto the sd card, but they can read and flash zip files from the sd card.

For some reason phone's original SD Card is not accessible... Tried copying the zip ROM from Mem Card to phone using ES Ecplorer, it failed...
Tried booting CM7 with ROM manager, it comes up with the following error:
"SD Card marker not found...
Error verfying extendedcommand
etc
"
Maybe you can help?
Sounds like your SD card may be corrupt in some way. I've seen that before. I suggest you copy everything off your sd card then format it, then copy everything back and try again

[q] [help] problem with recovery

I had this strange issue with TWRP 2.4.1.0
the recovery doesn't work with sd card
Pico boots into recovery only without sd card Does anyone know why?????????
try reflashing the recovery....or upgrade to 2.4.4.1
This is because TWRP stores some data in the SD card, for theming, backups and restore etc.
Both TWRP 2.2 and 2.4 need the SD card to work.

Format sd card using card reader or any other method, then, insert the card, and flash recovery with fastboot. This might work...
P.S.: backup your data on sd card. :silly:

Try formatting SDext from recovery first. (After you go into recovery, insert SDcard and format SD ext partition only )

[Q] SD Card and Internal Memory Questions [SORRY]

Okay, so I am just tired of the confusion in my head here.
I'm not a noob with rooting or anything of the sort, but I am not used to a phone with an internal SD card and an external SD card.
I am downloading a ROM to flash to my Galaxy S3 and it saves to the SD card... does that mean that it is saving to the phones memory and not the actual SD card I put into it?
There is an SD Card and an external SD card.
Which one is which? Haha.
And if I am right, like I think I am... the external SD card is the actual SD card I put into it and the SD Card is the phones internal memory.
How can I download from the internet and have it save onto the external SD?
AND...
When backing up a ROM before flashing a new one, do you recommend that I back up to SD card or external SD card?
And do you recommend I flash a ROM from the SD card or from the external SD card?
It seems that IF my external SD card somehow decided to corrupt while I was running off of a ROM that was installed via external SD card, that it wouldn't be able to boot after it corrupted.
Am I correct on all of this?
Sorry. Your answers are more than appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I have mine setup to download the roms, pictures, media or backups to the external sd card. In cwm I save a backup to both internal and external for the extra security. I just use external for everything because I have a 32gb sd card that has everything. The internal memory is just used for system stuff.

Perfect. That's absolutely everything I needed to know. I guess no matter what you download from the browser, it will download to the internal memory... but you can manually move it to the external SD with Root Browser.
Thank you man.

Go into the advanced settings option on your Browser and it gives you the option to have things downloaded to memory card or internal. Just change that to memory card and it will do it for you.

[Q] Solved - What happens to recovery if i change sd card?

So I recently rooted and installed a custom rom on my sensation xe. During the process i installed the 4ext recovery. Now I'm planning to increase sd card memory, so will buy new card in a couple of days. I noticed that there's a folder of 4ext recovery in my sd card, so if i change sd card, what happens to recovery? Do i have to reinstall the recovery? Or do i only copy the folder onto new card?

i doubt it will harmed the 4ext
probably when you insert the new sdcard it will create the folder but if don't then just copy the existed one

It may change any themes you have installed but other than that nothing just remember to copy your back ups over to the new card
