Hey everyone,
I'm having problems with my i-mate JASJAR. It has stock, updated firmware and is running really well. The only real problem that I have is that I can't uninstall any software. The error message I get is:
"<Program Name> was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
This goes for ANY program. If I try uninstalling from ActiveSync, it churns and works for a few moments, and then just goes away. There is no uninstall of the program.
If anyone can lend assistance that would be great.
Thanks
Sorry, I don't remember the link, but if you look in the Prophet forum, there was a thread on this exact problem.
Several solutions were offered, please use the search.

Hi,
Have had this on the Jasjar as well.
What you need to do is soft reset your device - then uninstall.
When you receive the message "Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"always say no to removing it - as this will remove the log containing the list of files and locations from the original install.
Another note is that if the program you are uninstalling has a today plugin - always uncheck the item first before uninstalling/performing a soft reset to uninstall.
I could be playing a demo of a game and not like it. I then go straight to the remove programs list and i receive the error message....if i leave the device for a while or launch another program i can sometimes uninstall otherwise a soft reset always cures it.
Hope this helps.
Matt
Thanks for the responses. I did use the search function but couldn't find anything appropriate. I'll be more vigilant in my searches.
Thanks for the soft reset advice. I'll check it out as well and report back.

I did a reset and still didn't work. I then went the next step and put it in 'safe mode' (SBP Pocket Plus) and still the same problem.
Same here
I have exactly the same issue.
It seems that uninstall doesnt work. It doesnt delete the files from the file system. Doesnt matter if it is Storage or SD. When you re-install the program, it doesnt install, because there are files already there.
The only thing that helps is manually remove the files from the file system. But that is quite a hassle for every program you de-install.
Is there anybody who knows how to make the uninstall work successfully?
I woke up this morning to a locked up tablet, when i restarted i was getting FC every couple seconds & when i switched apps
This is how i fixed it, I do not advise other people do the same thing because deleting database files like this is probably a really bad idea, and I had a clockwork mod backup in case something went wrong. so, DO NOT DO THIS that said, here's how I fixed it.
The logs indicated it was dieing in the contacts app when it went to open the database
"create table android_metadata failed"
I found the crashed DB in /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/
You can tell it's crashed if there is a .db-journal file, this means it wasn't closed properly, be VERY VERY VERY careful that you have the correct item (refresh the list a couple time and make sure the .db-journal file is still there, you could have gotten lucky and loaded the directory while it was writing the DB)
Now, rename or move the ENTIRE database folder (so we still have it, but the phone thinks it's gone)
cross your fingers and PRAY, there is a remote chance you just hosed your phone, but it SHOULD recreate the database automatically with default settings and 'fix' your crashes, but of course everything in that DB is now gone!
Not sure which databases this will work on, and which ones will just brick your phone, so be careful, i was lucky and it was just the contacts DB that was crashed, but since everything included the call logs in the contact DB apparently- I couldn't even get into the system settings to do a factory reset.
and as always, BACK IT UP BEFORE YOU F*CK IT UP! :-D
FYI: the sqlLite DBs in android are flaky as hell, i wrote an app that did background updates once a min and it would crash like this ALL the time (even in the emulator), I think it has something to do w/ wakelocks expiring before the SQL cache is written to the disk but i don't understand why that would happen in the emulator.

oh btw using CM and vegan - if that helps
I thought that Titanium backup could be used to do that, delete the Contacts data?
Jim
Great to see there may be a solution. Something to try before restoring to the reliably not quite current backup.
There is some info under the FAQ thread in the development forum.

You won't see those files or folders with es file explorer. You must use Root Explorer to locate and delete them.

Thanks man that solved the problem for me now I am back to using my tablet.
I just used titanium backup and contacts > wipe data...This fixed issue for me...I don't really care about having any contacts on my tablet anyway. (I am not suggesting you try this, just posting what I did).

Thanks!!! That worked for me too. I was getting really frustrated.
Having a contact with no name to use for sync reference will cause this. When you restore your contacts, look for one with data but blank name.

Totally. For some reason I would get this fc when I would sync my contacts. It stopped a few months ago after I realized I had 2 mystery contacts with no names or data and deleted them. Haven't had a problem since.
I've recently started having FC's with media files on my stock rom and was just about to wipe and reload when I took one more look at this thread. While I didn't find a corrupted contacts database, I did poke around in other directories at the /data/data/ directory level and found a corrupted database in com.android.providers.media/databases. I renamed the database folder, waited a few minutes and rebooted. Everything's working fine now.
Someday I'll install one of the better roms, but thanks to this forum I'll stay stock a little bit longer.
+1 on using Titanium Backup to wipe the contacts data. Stopped the FCs for me.
These appear to start because of the wake issue. I gotta figure out how to fix that.
I also turned off the autosync.
Man now that sleep issue is really bugging me. 4.3.0 with .2 add on.
**WARNING**
You WILL lose your contacts by doing this and you will have to restore them. I am not responsible for any errors that may occur in the process. I am not a developer or a hacker, I'm just a guy who had a problem and fixed it with a VERY long google search. Cheers.
I had the same problem. Constant (every 5 seconds) force close with a "process com.android.acore" FC. Flashing Vanilla, switching Roms, rebooting, all that did not help as it does not erase personal data (which is where the problem lies). If you don't have it, I STRONGLY suggest you keep a copy of Titanium Backup on your G-tab. If you have this force close problem, you will not be able to DL via the market, so you will have to sideload via the link I provided below. (You MUST be rooted to use Titanium Backup).
Once Titanium Backup is installed...
go to the "Backup/Restore" tab -->
scroll down to "Contacts 2.2" -->
click on it, then select "wipe data" -->
then scroll down to "Contacts Sync Adaptor 2.2.1" and do the same.
Once you have done those it should have fixed your "process com.android.acore" FC problems. Now you will need to restore your contacts via whichever method you have them backed up.
I'm a noob, so it won't let me embed links. But here it is...

This did not work for me until I noticed a third Contacts related app in Titanium backup. Once I wiped data in "{Contacts/Calls} Contacts Storage 2.2" it the FC issue for me. I am using TnT lite4.4.0
ShiftyBob, CosmicVagabond, you guys saved me an ulcer! Clearing Contacts Storage 2.2 (well, all three) was just what it took to clear MY stupid FCs. Thanks, folks!
okay so I am worse than a noob, I am a drone. Did what I was told three or four months ago to get this thing to run with android and now cant remember what I did. I am running tntlite 4.25.
I am getting the same error but I do not have titanium backup. I assume (yeah stupid me) I could put it on the sd card if I knew where to get it. But other than that I have no idea what to do. And since I have to go into the hospital for a week starting on Tuesday I am very unhappy.
Could someone possibly give me some step by step ideas on how to overcome? I would be grateful

This was exactly the same problem I had. After loading Synergy RLS1 I tried to read in contacts from the previous backup using Titanium backup. All was fine until I rebooted and I got com.android.acore FCs continuously. It took some quick fingers, but I was able to wipe data from "Contact Storage 2.3.3" and it now has gone away. Now my contacts are downloading from gmail and all seems well.

Hi!
I just got my SK4G the other week, and migrated over from a Motorola Milestone. I was using the brilliant 'Tasker' App on my Milestone, and when it came to getting the SK4G, I backed up my tasks and profiles, and am using the same SD card with the Sidekick.
My problem is that while all of the profiles I had set up are working fine, I am unable to create new ones because of the app continuously force closing. Whenever I try to set up a task, as soon as I get to the dialog to choose what actions to run, I get a short vibration, a pause, and then three quick vibrations followed by a force close. The rest of the app functions fine, and the tasks I'd already set up work perfectly.
I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app,
Removing my backed up preferences and creating tasks on default settings,
Using a task killer to free up RAM,
Rebooting,
Waiting a few days and trying again,
although nothing is working. I am still unable to use the app, as this unexplainable force closes prevent me from doing anything.
I know what you're thinking, "Go ask the Tasker forums!" but I just thought I would try here, seeing as it's a fairly popular app and the phone is only new I think I would have better chance finding someone who also uses the app on SK4G and might be able to enlighten me or tell me they have the same problem.
So, anyone got any ideas? Anyone using Tasker without problems on SK4G?
When you tried to install it on your SK4g, did you download it from the Market or did you just install the APK from your old phone?
I downloaded it from the market again, although its not impossible that there could have been some app files left behind on the sd card. Do you know what they would look like?
Thanks for helping!
Also, I'm just headed to bed, so don't expect another reply immediately
I've got Tasker working just fine here, that might just be some part of having the old files on your phone. Can you pull off everything that you copied over and try to redownload it from Market to see if that works without an FC?
I'm cleaning out my SD card now, getting rid of any extra Tasker files, and going to try that, although I can't actually uninstall the app. I do it via the market and it still shows up and I can still open it... This is with the SD card mounted and unavailable...
why can't you uninstall it? you should be able to just click uninstall in the applications list? it isn't a system app so there shouldn't be a problem there. also, why is your sdcard mounted but unavailable? that's just confusing. maybe that's why it can't uninstall? if it's installed to your sdcard, maybe it can't get to the application to uninstall it?
Sorry, by 'mounted' I meant to say that I was using the usb mass storage so the SD card was unavailable.
I ended up working out that I had given Tasker some kind of permissions in security settings, and had to disable that to uninstall.
Went through with uninstall, formatted my SD card and tried from scratch with Tasker again. No luck. Have now restored my profiles so I can keep using them until I sort it out.
huh. that's weird. and you reinstalled from market, not from an apk?
Yep! nothing makes sense!
Have you been able to completely uninstall it from your phone through settings?
I did completely uninstall, yes. I then re-downloaded from the market and I'm getting the same thing.
and what exactly are you doing in tasker when it force closes?
I get FC whenever I try to click the + button to add an action to a task.
I also asked the Tasker forums/google groups thing, and they told me to install a beta version, and I have and it fixed everything
So if anyone else has been having these problems just grab the latest beta of Tasker from here:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/beta.html
The reson it fc is cuz u r stopping processes which are need to run for the device to work.......Well I will be honest with you,if ur talking about a task killer....ITS POINT LESS....unless u are a dev and plane to us ur phone for deving....because no matter how much ur stop things well they will just start runing againg and well the appes are waste of space if u want to spot app, go to mune, then apps, manage apps and stop the ones u don't want....
No, Tasker is something completely different - it lets you automate lots of Android things
Hi guys, i was playing a game called F18 Carrier Landing, when my phone froze. I long held the power button so that it could reboot. After it rebooted, i unlocked it, and it gave me the interface as if i freshly flashed a new rom or i did a factory reset (the interface asking about google and setting up accounts). So, i completed that and once my home screen popped up, i faced a few force closes, from titanium backup, my anti-virus software Avast, and various other applications. I was very freaked out at this point. I remember reading something about fixing permissions if i faced constant force closes, so i rebooted to recovery and fixed permissions. Booted up fine, still missing data, but no force closes. But my google maps does not seem to work, i open it and it opens to the orange-ish checkerboard backing, but then force closes. I'm not exactly sure what to do at this point. Can anyone advise me on what to do or if this ever happened to them? For reference, i'm still on Froyo (don't ask why) 2.2.1, ROM's Audiophile Redux by Raver. If you require additional info to help me find a solution, i will gladly comply. Thanks!
EDIT1: I uninstalled my Maps with Titanium and restored a really old version from September of last year, and it seems to be working. Or atleast it opens and loads.
EDIT2: It seems to only load apps stored on my internal/phone storage. As i checked Applications in settings, the SD tab was empty as if there are not apps from the SD card installed, what can i do about this?
This has happened to many of us on GB. Crazy it happened on Froyo. You are going to need to reinstall your missing apps. If it is similar to what happened to us your phone factory reset on it's own.
Alright thanks, when it happened i thought it was a pretty serious problem, but as i restore my apps from Titanium, i realize it's not that bad. Just glad to know i wasn't alone on this ordeal. I plan on hopping onto AOKP or maybe MIUI when my contract ends, this phone is just to valuable to me at the moment. They both seem so fast and amazing, plus AOKP has themes. K, so quick question, do you know the reason behind this, i mean, is my SD corrupted or something? I can still play the music and the videos from it on my phone, but i don't understand why it wouldn't read the apps on the SD.
None of us have nailed down the cause unfortunately.
Thanks anyways, up and running with most of my apps back. Gotta get around to flashing a new ROM someday. So many good one's coming out!

Here's the case , playing Temple run 2 for few minutes. When I exit , the tab get crash.I was force to restart the tab.
After restart , everything get reset where it ask me for username , date and time and etc similar when you first bought a phone/tab.
Every application shortcut was on the screen but everyone of it crash. It looks like it auto created another profile for me.
What works is I uninstall the apps and reinstall again.Updating will also fail to launch.
Is there way to backup my bookmark link from opera and other application ?
Getting it straight to the point , how do I backup all application data which crash without rooting ?
Again I forgot to addd , the youtube and google play revert back to original old youtube icon and also google market.
What kind of crashes was it ? It auto revert all apps unusable ?
Anyone kind enough to reply me ? :crying:
Well the important thing would be to simply prevent the crashes from happening at all. There should be a tab in your settings for you to update if the manufacturer has provided one to be able to fix the crashing. Also, try doing a manual factory reset on your device, and starting from scratch. It could also be a faulty device. However as far as backup is concerned, there should be a multitude of apps on the playstore, or worst comes to worst, you can transfer your files to your computer via USB and transfer them back after the crash.
Personally, I'd just want the crashing to stop, hence why I suggested that first.
I hope this helps, or that you at least get your issue resolved.

Right now , the first thing I'd do now is root the device. Then using root backup pro and backup the apps + data .
After than will do a factory reset.
Is it a good idea ?
anyone know to use adb to backup or pull /data/data/Opera file out to backup?
