Ok so im new to this whole thing.....
I rooted my 1st G2X and I was unable to receive update (2.3.3). So I then Unrooted back to stock, still no update. (over the air or Manuel LG updater tool)
I then contacted T-mobile told them my problem.... they trouble shooted and was not able to resolve issue, so then they next day aired my a new G2X (under Insurance).
I now have a new G2X and would like to know how to boost my CPU without rooting (if possible). If this is not possible, can I just keep current 2.3.3 stock rom and just add a kernel with 1.5 ghz CPU. PLEASE HELP !!!!
P.S. will I still able to receive the over the air 4.0 upadate (If We get One) while using a rooted phone. If so, then How? THANKS GUYS !
Its not possible to OC with out root. Install cwm and flash either xboarders stock of tweaked rom 2.3.3 and faux123's 1.3 kernel.

Hi all be nice its my first time..
i would like to know how to tell if my phone is branded (tmobile) there is no web n walk icon etc. so might need gold card.
also if i was to root my dhd with the upcoming ota release of 2.3 is it worth doing for custom roms.
what is the difference between ota rom and custom. i ask this because if the custom roms are all good then should i ignore the stock rom updates. and just use rooted.
i do like the stock rom but ive done the update at xmas and need to roll back...
ive just rooted my first android tablet, which was a risk because i wasnt sure what machine it was.. but its all good.. so doing the root shouldnt be a problem.
Hello,
I am running stock rom with S-off, Revolutionary, and perm rooted. I have been out of the country and tried searching the forums but cant find an answer. I keep finding instead of updating, install a custom rom. I don't want to change roms, because with setcpu and anker 1900 battery; I am able to go 2 full days without a charge with heavy usage.
Can I install the update, or do I need to do something else first?
Is there steps on what I need to do?
Thanks for any help.
You would be better off searching the forums for a rooted version of the update. That way you can stay stock.

I rooted my HTC Wildfire yesterday (with Revolutionary)...it went perfectly well... but I am unable to use USB TETHERING on my computer ... & I have to rely on other 3rd apps for this & its really annoying....I just wanted to know that :
My phone by default came with Eclair....which I updated to Froyo & had to wait a long time to be able to root. Now (currently CM 7.0.3 Stable) if I want to either upgrade to Honeycomb or downgrade to Eclair will I loose the S-OFF & current HBOOT version ? Y/N
If No then pls list down the procedure for upgrade or downgrade respectively ?
thanx in anticipation.

I am thinking of installing Kind 3d Rom on my O3D... is it necessary to install a baseband for Gingerbread first ? If so whats the best baseband available and how to install it ..... just like flashing custom rom or theres some other way .. ??
+ my O3d is working fine , so i dont install the baseband and update to 2.3 rom will it have it effect ... sometimes i loose connectivity and have to restart but i thinks that is due poor network coverage.
Hi, I only recently got my O3D and it was locked to one network. I bought an unlock code (had to wait for it) and preceded to install king rom. When I tried to put lock code in it wouldnt let me. I then realised that even an original network sim wouldnt work and my imei number was not showing on the phone.
Hence I found I needed to update the baseband to allow the network to be picked up.
So yes you need to, however I updated the baseband after gb install and it worked fine, not sure about doing the baseband update beforehand.
I used baseband v18 and whilst signal is not as good as my old defy, I am not complaining too much
Hope this helps

You have to install baseband. It doesn't matter if you do it before or after flashing the rom

I rooted my optimus 3d and installed ice cream sandwich rom, since then i cant use my phone or send txts, it does not regognise my sim card. the rom is working fine and looks great though.lol. Is there a way in which i can revert back to stock rom? any help would be really appreaciated.TIA.
Why don't you all simply just install the official Gingerbread update from LG and then afterwards try out the custom roms based on the Gingerbread release? I don't get it...
Is it that easy?just put it in the SD card and then install....etc??I am havinga cold feet installing any costume rom cause I hear this and that..I am on official GB 21A and rooted..donnu wat to to do really..

Hello,
How are you?
I have a question.
From what I read, the Sensation XE is basically the same hardware as the sensation, but has the CPU clocked at 1.5.
Is it possible to have my sensation to 1.5 from the original 1.2 while keeping the stock ROM to allow OTA official updates?
Thank you.
Cheers!

Somebody will correct me if i'm wrong but i would say no.
There is a kernel available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432211 which is the stock kernel with one modification so that the CPU is clocked to 1.5 ghz. However, to install this kernel, you need to be rooted and have a custom recovery and to install ota updates, you need the stock recovery.
I have s-offed and rooted my phone but tend to run stock roms only with the addition of these kernels and, as for official updates, these are available on xda as soon as, if not before, they become officially available.
I would recommend reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 carefully, s-offing your device, rooting it, install a custom recovery and implement super cid then you will be able to run stock roms with this overclocked kernel and also flash any official update when it becomes available.
EDIT It may be possible to follow the above procedure, run a stock rooted rom and install the overclocked kernel then flash back a stock recovery and so be able to install ota updates but i am really not sure about this so you would have to get advice from someone with more knowledge than myself!
So, I've looked and looked, and found nothing.
I am on a basically stock G2x running stock 2.3.4. I have flashed CWM 5.0.2.0. So, how do I root? At this moment, I'm not worried about loading a customer ROM. I wanted ICS, but it looks a little too buggy for me right now. Regardless, before I do anything ROM wise, I need to root so I can use Titanium to do a full backup.
So, how do I JUST root without installing a custom ROM?

SuperOneClick also worked for me on 2.3.4. (Whichever tool you use, use at your own risk!)

Very important:
Before you go installing any ROMs you need to know you that your phone's baseband (sometimes abbreviated BB) is probably March 2012 (some refer to it as v21y baseband). You can verify by going to Settings > About Phone and scrolling down a little and looking for a month and a date in the baseband name (i.e. Mar 11 2012).
Here are a few of the many threads about the one problem you're going to have installing a custom ROM if you have a March 2012 (save kwes's modified 2.3.4 stock).

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1643702
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603057
In summary: March 2012 baseband only works with 2.3.4 stock ROM and kwes's modified 2.3.4 stock ROM. If you flash another ROM you will not change the baseband so you will be stuck with a new and incompatible baseband that won't work with your ROM. The only way to change the baseband is to update using LG support tool. In other words, the only way to get a custom ROM problem-free in regards to baseband compatibility is to downgrade to stock 2.3.3 (which will downgrade both ROM and baseband) via LG Support Tool. All of the custom ROMs (including all of the ICS ones) work with, I believe, all of the 2011 basebands.
Nothing more nothing less

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'm on March 2012. Originally I wanted ICS, but the more I read about the issues, the more I think I should wait for the official release. The data drops would kill me, and I stream video a lot, so that would be out. Didn't LG say they would roll out ICS to the G2x in Q2 of 2012? I believe we are in Q2, woot! I just can't justify the risk vs. reward for a ROM change, unless you guys have suggestions... lol
Thanks again!
If you use the stock rooted kwes rom with that baseband you will have no issues at all...
Ive been running it for a few weeks and its as solid as rock...i have it OC'ed even and no issues ...
that baseband (march2012) has worked wonders for my phone...

LG has not stated the G2x would get ICS. The statement you are talking about it the European version P990 and has been move to 3rd Quarter now. I don't expect to get ICS as T-Mobile has EOL'd our device.
