I currently flashed and activated the Epic 4g (Sph-D700) on the cricket network, and everything was working good. But stupidly I flashed the Cyanogenmod 7 RC3 for the Epic 4g on Sprint network thinking the 3g would work. But ever since then I could never get the 3g working anymore.
Tried many steps; from QPST, APN settings, returning to stock, flashing CM9 Beta 4 on cricket, CM7 for Cricket, trying many ways in many forums to fix 3g, and returning to Cyanognemod 7 RC3 on Sprint and trying to fix it from there.
don't know what to do anymore. I installed an app like root explorer for free and messed with the apn. Tried to mess with the hap secret going to system, etc and reaching ppp. Tried installing the epic 4g different cell phone company fix flash file, the i905 data fix and no luck. I tried using CDMA workshop and QPST and tried a bunch of PRLs and the 3g icon wouldn't even pop up.
The PRL that worked with 3g cricket was 42700 one. Flash cyanogenmod 7 screwed it up. I even used voice dials to open APN and nothing. Even dialed ##8778# and set it back to PDA. Tried dialing #data and mess the settings there. Does anyone have a back up of the apn settings on cricket where the 3g works? I currently have thr $55 plan .
I noticed that on cm7 and cm9 the connection goes to 1x and no 3g connection. Also noticed that I keep losing signal and sounds like its updating PRL.
If anyone can help, please
I just purchased a used Galaxy S2 SGH-I727R skyrocket that was originally purchased from Rogers in Canada a year ago by the original owner. The phone was completely stock with stock Rogers firmware, most up to date version 4.0.4. The phone box shows LTE DUAL BAND 700MHz/AWS as the capable signal bands on this phone. I'm not sure if any of these are blocked on the Rogers custom firmware.
I unlocked the phone and tried to use it on Fido LTE network, which works on the same network as Rogers as it is part of the same parent company now. However, my phone will not pick up the LTE signal, no matter what. The SIM is brand new from Fido on their new LTE network that I got just 2 weeks ago. The SIM is properly provisioned for LTE as after installing sim in the phone, the apn settings window automatically populates with FIDO LTE settings (ltemobile.apn and ltedata.apn for tethering). I also have a full LTE and 4g data plan.
As LTE would not connect, I entered fido's regular 4g/3g settings as a separate apn and the phone connected right away to the 4G network (with very good speeds, DL up to 11MBps and uploads up to 2-3 MBps). I'm in the downtown Mississauga area right beside toronto and this area is fully covered with LTE. I tried using the 'data roaming' option to see if there was any difference, I tried to manually select fido in the 'network operators' section etc but playing around with these options generated zero success.
I looked up forums on Fido where even though this phone is not in their line up of supported devices, their helpdesk suggested that any Canadian LTE phone with proper fido lte data plan and proper lte sim should work on LTE. I even drove around in areas near my house where I've seen a friend use Fido's LTE signal on his Fido htc one device, but no success on my phone.
***Some people have activated proper LTE signal on their Google Nexus 4 American phones for use in Canada by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and then going into the following menu's 'phone information' section to select LTE or a different PRL option with LTE. I tried to do the same thing but when I enter this hidden menu's 'phone information' section, my screen blanks out, phone becomes unresponsive and after a minute or 2 I get a message that some android system file was closed etc. I tried de-activating the data connection and tried to enter the same menu option but same end result. I thought maybe rooting the phone will give me access to this menu but even after successful root, my phone blanks out when entering that 'phone information' menu.
Can anyone suggest something or help me figure this out please. I have a feeling the PRL or LTE option needs to be selected manually here and I need to access that menu. Since FIDO LTE network on Rogers existing LTE network was activated a year later, there may be some updates needed in this area (as the phone was originally set up for Rogers LTE from a year ago).
OR, should I just call FIDO support, and assuming they help me with a non-fido phone, try to get this sorted out with their techs?
Thanks
weird when you say the box says "aws", rogers doesnt support aws as far as i know, wind uses aws, i cant find my box to check
did you perferm a factory reset, which modem are you on
EDIT: phone does support aws, but cant see why it would state it on the box if its from rogers
Because the LTE networks are running on AWS and in some cases 2600 MHz frequencies by the big providers in Canada. Even thourgh only Wind/mobilicity use the new AWS for their regular 3G/4G networks, the LTE with Rogers/Bell/Telus is on AWS while their regular non-lte signals are still on their standard gsm bands.

k, but did you check which modem you are on
did you perform a reset.
u stated you entered this, *#*#4636#*#* you should of not received errors(but i tested on jb)
try this for band preference *#2263#
try a working rogers lte sim card and see what happens
are the fido apns the same as rogers
try the rogers apns, used to work for the 3g when i was on fido but that was b4 they offered lte
last resort but maybe your best option, flash stock w/odin, howto in my sig

Thanks again for your help. I realized later on that I got the non-LTE sim card from Fido, so I went back yesterday and got an LTE sim card and had it activated. However, I can never get LTE even though a person sitting beside me on her Rogers S3 with the exact same apn (as I realized rogers and Fido have the exact apn's for LTE network, ltemobile.apn) is getting LTE. I know Fido is the value brand, so they get secondary priority on LTE, which is ok but I realized the problem below:
WHEN I had the non-LTE sim and even with the LTE sim now, one option has never worked. In the mobile network screen, I'm supposed to have just the Ltemobile.apn (Fido and Rogers LTE) radion button selected and Ltedata.apn (for tether) as the default options. These are also built into the rogers stock rom and this phone is originally a rogers a phone. My friend's S3 has the same 2 apn's listed while she's connected to rogers LTE (her's is micro sim, I couldn't try it on mine). With these options, I CAN'T connect to ANY data network at all. I can only do calls, no data. I tried doing batter reset, restarts, change the LTE/HSPA and HSPA etc settings, no luck. The ONLY time I get data is when I manually enter the non-LTE apn settings as a separate apn (Fido-core-appl1.apn) and it connects to 4G. The speeds were good earlier but since changing to the LTE sim, the same 4G keeps disconnecting or it gives much much lower speeds.
As per your suggestion, I followed your thread to re-install the stock rogers ICS rom with odin. Even after that, no change at all. I tried using the *#2263# option to change LTE band to 7 or auto, but no luck as this phone's hardware is only for 700 MHZ or AWS, of which rogers uses the 2100 on pretty much all their devices. At this point, I don't know what to do. I've followed everything from Fido site with LTE phone, LTE apn, LTE sim and LTE data plan, but the phone doesn't even recognize the ltemobile.apn unless I enter the regular Fido apn.
Should I change the radio/modem on this phone to something else or try the JB roms? Do you think that may make a difference, or is this something else, where LTE apn is not even recognized for data. Someone please help, my first phone upgrade after 2.5 yrs has been a complete buzz kill lol.
theres is a method when using *#2263# in picking the lte settings, ill search for the posts as i cant remember the exact details
if you lived or work near me i could test it out for you, bolton or toronto near yorkdale, since its a second hand phone you cant rule out hw failure, but you would need to test it out with a rogers lte sim card.
did you try manually searching for available networks from mobile settings
edit:k i found it, its old and uses the rogers older apn, try with that one or whatever fido phones uses now which i think would be the "ltemobile" apn, if already set then just goto the "power off" phone part
-.go to settings/more/mobile networks/access point names
Now click bottom left haptic button followed by Add apn
now either copy exactly what comes up in your apn Again and hit save

Click bottom left haptic button and click save
and select it
then power off phone and remove sim card
then reboot phone (no sim card)
and when up go to phone and dial *#2263#
Select Lte Settings
All bands
then bottom left haptic button / end
Open dialer again.
Dial *#2263#
select automatic

power down
now place sim back in phone

make sure apn is selected you created
Thanks Vincom. If there is a HW problem, that would really suck but it's hard to see that would be the case if everything else is working fine, inlcluding 4G. And it would be great to know how that band selection process works, as I don't wont to select the wrong option and be stuck with a non-working radio.
I'll give Fido tech support a call and see if they can figure this out, but it's unlikely unless there is something wrong with my plan (LTE plan not activated, unlikely).
Let's say even if I were to have to check the phone (driving to Yorkdale area is no big deal), what would you test on this anyway?
Thanks
Actually let me try out the options you later added in your post above
Thank you, it worked!

Thank you x 1,000,000 Sir, I owe you big time. I've spent last 3 days non-stop on this phone while my wife has been complaining I haven't left my phone since I got it. Now I can go home today and spend more time with her lol.
Here's how it worked: I just copied the ltemobile.apn default settings into a new apn, which I saved with a different name (so that I could keep the original default settings saved separately). As soon as I saved the new apn settings (did not enter anything in the 'apn type' field) and wala, LTE came on. For some reason, even with the same settings exact default settings, it wasn't recognizing the saved apn but the newly created one was picked up right away. Tried the speed test in square one area at work, 21Mbps down, 12Mbps up, wow (coming from my old 3G phone, this is amazing).
I didn't even have to go through the rest of the process with band selection etc., as this is a Rogers phone on their network, so those settings should'nt be changed anyway.
Thanks again. I think I saw some posts on fido forums with other people complaining about stuck with 4G on non-fido phones. I'll update those forums as well.
Happy new year to all
I just make a new son ltemobile.apn and it sticks even on reboots

I have my OPO on AT&T network and under APN in settings there are 7 AT&T APNs. Can I try different ones to see if any are better, or will I screw things up? Thanks
Try until you get your data working
Delete all of them except ATT LTE. I also add hipri to APN type.
Hello, I am trying to use D2G on the Ting's GSM network (which is T-mobile's network). I am running the cyanogenmod 7 rom (with gingerbread kernel, I think).
I followed band unlock procedures here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l15c0hxwQFAh1e1ewVMe3QUy4d1Laa51C2WCmBizSxA/edit
After putting in the sim card from Ting, it connects to T-mobile's network and I am able to make calls and texts, which is great.
However, I am unable to use data over the network. Ting has its own apn settings, which I have tried to enter. But after I add the apn in apn settings, the page remains blank and I am unable to select the apn that I have added.
To get around this, I have tried replacing /system/etc/apns-conf.xml with one I created myself with Ting's info, reset apn to default and reboot. Unfortunately, the phone still isn't connecting to data, and the apn page in settings remains blank.
So does anyone know what I should do? Would flashing a different rom help, is this a cyanogenmod issue?
Thanks
