Lookout as a system app - General Questions and Answers

I've been trying to install Lookout as a system app on my kids LG Optimus S. (He keeps deleting it from the market). Every attempt gives me a f/c. Tried moving Lookout using the built in feature with Titanium. Also tried using ES File Explorer to move the apk to the system/app folder. Any suggestions?

It was not made as a system app so you would need the normal apk with all the lib files. To be honest even if you did he/she would just use the same thing to remove it. I would just install a app locker and then lock the apps so they can't be removed

Try installing an App Locker app that will protect the app with an key code and will prevent uninstallations from occurring.
Smart App Protecter is a good one and is free on the Market.

Thanks for the tips. Will give it a shot.

[Q] Having a folder auto-close after opening app

Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to to have a folder auto close after you start an app in that folder?
I'm not rooted so is there a stock alternative.
Try a free app called App Organizer.
I love this app!
Auto close is one of its options.

Killing an app

Ok, this is my first day with this marvelous device. I installed Tweet caster, as it was my go to twitter app on my EVO. After I installed Tweet Comb and became fascinated by it, tweet caster on the xoom just doesn't carry too far.
Right now, both are giving me notifications and it's annoying, but I don't want to uninstall caster, either. Other than a reboot, what will fix this issue? Can't you simply exit an app? Do I need an app killer? I've been told app killers are unnecessary with Android, but on my EVO I use the app killer all the time.

I don't use either app, but check the settings. You should be able to turn off notifications. In settings, apps, manage apps though you can stop an app. DO NOT USE A TASK MANAGER.
I agree that task managers that automatically kill apps are no longer required by android. However, in order to close apps easily I use an app called Active Apps, since a lot of apps tend to linger in the background. Put the widget on your desktop and it will give you a running tally of how many apps are running and allow you to opt to quit one or all of them.

I don't know if this will be easier for you, but if you have to kill an app you can also find the app in the drawer and drag it onto the "i" , which will take you to the same spot as finding the app in "settings/applications/manage applications/" then finding the app.

How to get rid of carhome???

Ok, so I got a g2x eb rom, faux kernel and a magnetic holster on my belt.
The problem is, carhome keeps popping up every time I place my phone in and take it out. Freakin annoying.
Nothing is working and I can't find carhome launcher apk ANYWHERE, only carhome apk.
Tried:
1. Un install through ti bckup and android
2. Dock no app and other apps that should stop carhome from starting
3. Pm packages disable through terminal
4. Delete apk altogether...
Nothing is working. Any suggestions?

have you tried removing it via adb? I mean, delete it, reboot and you may get an error if s/g tries to launch it. Also try an app called app quarantine, I use it to freeze apps and I know it works for car home. You can also try a program called ROM Tool box, by JRummy. If nothing works, get a new ROM, or reflash as it could just be bugged.
Thanks.
The problem is, I unstalled via titanium. No apk of carhome.
So there is no apk to quarantine or stop via apps.
I think my problem is that the carhome launcher is the pia. I can't seem to figure out how to disable the launcher. No launcher apk anywhere.

Have you tried using Bloater app?

I did the following to get rid of it:
1) extract the cahome.apk from the ROM zip file and install it.
2) Once installed it should show up in titanium backup
3) tap on car home in titanium backup and click wipe data and then the uninstall.
4) reboot,
That should remove it .

I used Rom Toolbox from the app store and uninstalled it. Poof its gone and no issues! Just go into the apps section and hold car home, then select uninstall.
Glad one of.my suggestions worked. Please hit the thanks button.

Yeah installing /uninstall doesn't work. For some reason it always comes back.
I got a diff app, disablecarhome on the market and that one finally seems to work.... If that acts up again I'll try the apps mentioned.

Oops, nvm, was reading the post on a bumpy bus, thought the person who said they used ROM toolbox was you. What app exactly did you use and why?
I am not an advance user, but I did managed to removed that piece of **** carhome without ****ing anything up.
1) Install Root Uninstaller. It is a free app on market. (I assume you have root access, since you said you are using faux and eb rom)
2) Find Carhome, check it, hit Backup in case you want it back, then uninstall. The apk should be saved on your phones internal sd right now, back it up to your pc as you desired.
3) At this point, your phone should pop out something about kineto (sp?), crashing. I've try anything I can think of but nothing will back you out of that error loop. No fear though! All you have to do is pull battery out
4) Turn the phone back on, now enjoy your phone without that piece of **** app bothering the **** outa you
Freezing it should also work since it is not available in app drawer.

App update problem

Trying constantly to update the gunship 3 app. The total size of the app is over 200mb. The update only packs in at 32mb.fine thought it was a delta update. App doesn't load. So I removed the app totally. On the reinstall the app only downloads the same 32mb and not the initial 200+.mb. Strange. Does exactly the same on my nexus 5. Almost like it is not deleting all the original files. Tried es Explorer to have a look about but no joy
Thanks for any feedback
