[Q] Video chat application development on Android - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I am trying to develop an app that can support video chat on Android. I am looking for an API for the same.
I have tried skypekit but have been facing issues with building the libSkypekit.so library.(I tried the same for about a week with no luck)
I was looking at OpenTok API and that seems like a viable solution. I need to develop a native app since I need to be able to add other tasks to the app as well. Has anyone implemented this before?
Also, what would be the licensing fees to put such an app out in the Market?
Are there any other APIs(Free or paid) available for Video chat on Android?
I would really appreciate any help.
Regards,
Sheshambika

[Q] Developing with Twitter

Hello there,
I'm a developer, and am looking to develop some small apps using the Twitter API. I was wondering, what is the best twitter client to use for the Android and Mac systems? Would it be bad practise to use different apps from different makers on different devices?
Also, what about Twitters native apps for Android and Mac vs Tweetdeck?
I'm very new to this field, so any insights and guidance would be most appreciated.
Thankings in advance

[Q] TTS for web browser/VoiceOver equivalent for Android?

Hi,
I've been looking for a way to have my Android phone read to me similar to iOS's VoiceOver feature. I'm running Android 2.3 but can't seem to find a way to accomplish this easily.
A couple quasi solutions I have found is to use a RSS reader, such as "FeedSpeak" or "Web Talks" that support TTS (Text to speech), however this only works for RSS feeds. Another method is to convert websites into PDF's using Dolphin Browser's "MyPDF" Add-on and use ezPDF's voice reading feature to read the PDF back.
Am I missing something that is inherent in the Android OS? Does anyone have a better app to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Voice Browser Lite: https://market.android.com/details?...dfreebrowser.lite&feature=more_from_developer
This is an excellent example of what I'm looking for, I just wish it was a little more refined. Hopefully this will help someone looking for a similar app.
Hello,
I've been looking for exactly the same solution for a while now, and ended up looking at the same SW as you mention -- but found them a bit lacking. And yes, I agree, Voice Browser is annoyingly close. What bothers me the most is why isn't that one a browser plugin that can be activated only when needed.
Sorry if this doesn't provide you with any added knowledge (apart from the consolation that you exhausted all existing options).
Let us know if you find anything new / better. TIA for that.
I'm sorry for posting in a such old thread, but I was looking for exactly the same app and Google brought me here. I foud one very simple but that can satisfy the requirements of anyone looking for something similar. Here it is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benigumo.speechweb
Web Speech doesn`t work for me...I just get FC's all the time...
I think it's really annoying that there is no simple App or Add-on for this feature.
In fact I find it unbelievable. Is there really no convenient solution?

I wonder if the permissions in android prohibit an app like that. my understanding is that apps reallycan't interact with other apps for security purposes.
Use "Voice Reading" app for reading web pages android
"Share" the web page to "Voice Reading" (read aloud) app. You have to get the app from Googleplay. This is the best way that I have found.
It's the highest rated reading app. Remember you can 'share' any page or email.:good:

[Q] Convert Iphone App to Android app

Hi,
I currently am new to android and am starting to love it. I currently am a developer for the Apple App store and would like to transfer my Xcode over to android and start doing code in the android SDK. I have the Xcode and was wondering if anyone could convert it for me or send me to someone/somewhere that could help me convert the code for a small fee or for free.
The app is a simple navigation app that should be pretty simple to setup and initiate. I'm basically done with dumb apple stores and their rules that I can't make more apps because their tight wads. Anyways... any help would be great.
Thanks,
Brandon

Where does he say anything about Warez? He developed an App for the App Store and now he wants to convert it for Android use.
you got me on that one i completely overlooked that part lol my bad.
If you know how to develop in JAVA then you may have to write your code for your app again. It isn't easy to just "port" iPhone applications to Android.
if it were as easy as porting code from objective c to java then the market would be flooded with tons more iphone apps... you have to rewrite the app from a programming sense pretty much. there are tools with which you can write apps from scratch that will work on both platforms but you can't send xcode to android and expect anything.

I dont expect to convert it without any hard work. I basically am wanting to give the code to someone. Who maybe for a small fee. Can recreate the app for the android. I know it probably isn't going to be super cheap, but since the idea is already there. I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me out on this issue. I just mainly want to have someone recreate my app, and then possibly do a small overview of how to make it function like my apple app in a sense.
Android Studio and XCode are completely different. You should rewrite the application if you are going native. You can use HTML tools such as Intel XDK, PhoneGap, Cordova for cross-platform apps but they don't have the power of native development.
