My screen would not wake up, I flashed Cyanogen Mod, the latest version, but as soon as my screen goes off and I tried to wake it, it'll just stay in a lighted black screen forever, nothing happens, it wont wake or respond to buttons so I have to pull battery. It didn't happen on just this rom, I tried other roms as well. And same results, is it my phone or rom? I just got the phone today.
Which rom are you running? And did you flash a custom kernel?
Try a complete wipe and reflashing, but don't restore any apps, if you do, and see if the problem persists.

I was running the latest version of Cyanogenmod. And no, I did not flash a custom kernel. I've already tried a complete wipe and flashed the rom like so many times. Like Cyanogenmod would install, but as soon as I put the phone to sleep and I hit the home button to try to wake it, it would be stay as a lighted black screen. The phone is responding to the button but it seems like the screen would not go on, the light for the 4 buttons lights up, but the screen doesn't display anything, just backlight. Please help, this is confusing me.
Set the phone to not sleep, it will just dim the light to near 0% brightness. I used to have this problem too on some nightlies and stable cm releases even and doing the above worked for me. I also bumped minimum cpu speed to 500-800 instead of 300, which lagged too much imho.

You say you press the home button when you turn the screen off and the buttons light up? Or did you mean when you pressed the power button?
When I press on the power button to wake it up, it just gives me a black screen. However the buttons light up when I touch them just the screen wont display anything.

That happened to me once. Did you wipe "system" in CWM before installing the rom?
Same Issue
Did you ever find a fix for this problem? My G2x just stopped coming on and I never changed any settings or anything. I've wiped davlik & user data; installed stock and custom roms, but every time the screen turns off the power button fails to wake the phone up. No lights flash or anything. I've found others who have the same problem but I haven't discovered any solutions. I'm guessing this must be a hardware problem since the power button does work to initially turn on the device and lock it but can't wake it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm currently running a rooted stock rom with the v21y BB that's been ICS-ified

I've found this issue to exist of literally EVERY build of CM that I've every used on ANY android device. I can't stand it. I finally stopped flashing CM all together because I hate not being able to wake up my device. NO OTHER ROM has done this before. Doesn't matter the model. Here's all the models that exibit this behavior that I've tested with.
Kindle Fire - CM9, CM10 and CM10.1
Galaxy 7 tab 2 - CM10, CM10.1 and CM10.2
Samsung Epic 4g (Galaxy S1) - CM7, CM9, CM10, CM10,1
Galaxy S3 Sprint- CM10, CM10.1
Galaxy S4 Sprint - CM10, CM10.1 and now CM10.2
That's very interesting. CM... I ended up sending the phone to LG to fix. I have a GS2 now so I gave the phone to my father. It runs great now.
sulotion to screen not waking up on cyanogenmod
I was having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy note 2. I'm running cyanogenmod 11. I solved the issue by going into setting then display and lights and unchecking proximity wakeup. I hope this can help someone else.
Thank you a lot man! I was really in panic mode.
Not Waking up
This problem started once I have upgraded to official Lollipop. When I press the power button, the screen doesn't wake-up immediately. I had to press many times the power button to get the screen comes.

I am on Hboot 1.14. I've had a problem with the screen on my device since this morning. All was fine at first, then I flashed the latest ViperXL ROM using Flash Image GUI, which has worked flawlessly in the past. I did a factory reset, wiped everything. It installed fine but once it went to sleep I couldn't wake it up with the power button. The capacitive buttons lit up but nothing showed up on the screen, (except sometimes a very short blip of the lockscreen, then black again). I rebooted multiple times to try to change setting but nothing seemed to help. All was good until I pressed the power button to sleep, or it went to sleep on its own.
I assumed this was a ROM issue so I wiped and flashed CM10.1 m2, again with a factory reset and wipnig everything. Again, installation went great but the I'm having the same problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I wiped it all again and reflashed CM10.1. All is well so far. I'm thinking it may have been something I sideloaded, like LBE Security Guard, that doesn't like 4.2.2. It was silly of me to install my apps without being sure if a stable install first.
Re: [Q] Screen won't turn on after sleep
Hey could you put "Resolved" in the title? This way people will know.

Sorry. I'm looking and I can't see anywhere to mark it resolved or edit the title. Where do I do that?

Ok, if i let my Tab sleep for like 5 minutes, when i try to wake it using the power button, the screen comes on, but when i touch the screen nothing happens at all, the screen will go dim and then off as if im not touching the screen(which i am constantly). I know the device did not hang as i can rotate it/use the hardware volume buttons, they function normally. After about a minute more or less, the touch is back to normal, the screen works fine as long as it doesn't go into standby for long. if i reboot the device, everything still works fine, only when the device goes to sleep then this happens.
Btw my tab is GT-P3100, i thought it was a firmware problem, so i went from ICS 4.0.4 to JB 4.1.2 and now im on CyanogenMod 10.1. All three firmware gives the same problem, touch screen does not respond to my touch from wake, only working properly after about a minute. Anyone has encountered the same problem before?
Try different Rom,
Prefered stock,

Hello everybody , from time to time my moms Note 10.1 (N8000) refuses to wake up from sleep , it doesn't happen too frequently , but it does require a forced reboot , is it a known bug or is there any fix ?
BTW , its running completely stock 4.1.2 .

Look up android sleep of death. I had on previous devices but not the note 13
I actually think it does wake up just not turning on the screen , i can hear the volume changing , and the device going to mute mode , but screen is off .
or maybe i am wrong and its normal to change the volume with the screen is off on samsung devices?

It isn't normal no, the only button that should work with the screen off is the screen on button. I'd start by looking into what shaun suggested above and if you find no fix, maybe just try a factory format? (back your data up first).
I get a slightly similar issue on mine but I got the bug when I flashed Hyperdrive Rom, my screen occasionally "goes off" but it's not really off, I can see the back light still. I just have to screen off/screen on and I'm fixed. Your issue sounds different though because you need forced reboot.
Hope you get it fixed, Good luck!

did OP ever get this resolved? I am having the exact same problem with the 10.1 2014. Screen goes to sleep, but when pressing power, or opening the book cover, the backlight does not turn back on. You can see the image on the LCD in the light and hear screen presses, or volume adjustments.
Tried factory reset, and Odin'd a fresh rom.. No go

I am on stock rom and never rooted. Mine started doing the exact same thing. You can see it on in the light. Factory reset didn't fix.
Hi,
I have a quite similar problem. It started with a charging problem so I thought changing the cable would solve the problem but no. My charging is kow ok, but each morning after a long charging night, my note n8010 with stock android gets SSSSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW . Black screen, then slowly wakes up, but need 10sec to unlock screen and unusable... I have to force reboot too.
It seems like it doesnt want to wake up, like extreme energy saving mode... ?! No solution actually found for me
The only fix for me is flashing Boefla kernel
Hey guys,
I have a really strange display issue with my Galaxy R.
I'm on CM10.1 nightly and already tried different nightlies with factory reset and wipe data/cache.
If the phone is not used for a while (sometimes even after 30 minutes), meaning it is on and screen is off, the display won't turn on anymore.
So I press the power button and the capacitive buttons light up, but the screen stays completely black.
Today I noticed that I can even use the touch screen and I could hear all sounds, I even managed to open the dialer and start typing blindly and it would make the dial sounds.
But whatever I try, the screen won't turn on.
Also, it seems when I'm connected to a charger and/or connected to wifi, this problem doesn't seem to occur.
Then I have no choice but to remove the battery, but then often I can't even start the phone.
Sometimes it takes some minutes, sometimes a really long time until I can start it again.
Usually the battery isn't drained, this only happened once.
This occurs after I dropped the phone twice, so it might be related to that.
(Though before I've also dropped it and this never happened.)
Any ideas?
flash stock ics and see if problem persists.
once i flashed a custom rom and faced this issue, reverted to stock and now my device is running with zero issues.

I tried to find the stock rom online, but all links seem to be down.
Do you know where I can get it?

You need to register and then download from here.
Thanks for that, I installed newest stock rom.
Could boot fine, set up the phone, put it to the side.
One hour later I checked it - same problem again.
Capacitive buttons flaring up, screen not.

Then you should visit SSC. They can only repair your device.
Wake Up Lag after flashing cm-12.1-20150815-UNOFFICIAL-ferrari.zip
I have flashed cm-12.1-20150815-UNOFFICIAL-ferrari.zip.
Everything looks fine, but the wake-up lags quite seriously.
When I press the power key to wake up the phone,
the hardware key lights up, but the screen is still black.
After 5-8 seconds the screen may show up but then it goes off quickly.
Now I have to long press the power key,
then the reboot menu will come out, and the screen can then keep on.
But it's quite stupid.
I have flashed also the RazorReborn kernel but problem still exists.
If the problem cannot be solved, I may need to flash back to the MIUI rom to try again.
