G2X for Nexus S? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Would you trade your G2x for a Nexus s?
G2x has better hardware and Nexus s has better software.
opinions?

Naww. I love my g2x. It's more fun to screw around with. With the nexus everything's already done for you.

I would! Tmo nexus s!
NVIDIA NEVER AGAIN!

Why would u want to give up 2core, better graphics and atleast the idea that LG might give us ics where gs isn't getting it officially?
Nvidia always!

Galaxy Nexus, not Galaxy S

im loving the g2x so far.....im just trying to see if the trade would be worth it. confused as hell....but the g2x is by far the best android ive owned.
but then nexus s has more support and gt-i9020t is valued higher than the p999

I've been debating the same thing. If gaming isn't your thing, I'd go for the NS. It already has ICS, we'll get ICS "by summer". A couple of things still don't work on CM7 through no fault of their own, it's NVIDIA's closed drivers, so the same will probably happen on CM9. I know they said they'd help the development community but it's already January and we haven't seen anything so I'm not holding my breath.

Nexus S IMO, I"m actually trying to trade mine as well for a Nexus S. I like SAMOLED better and some thing's on the G2x just bug me. Samsung just makes the best phones IMO, plus it's a Google phone. Can't go wrong with that one. And with Tegra being closed source it'd troublesome to dev on.

got the nexus s guy
had phone while i had my g2x....too bad i cant keep up with my theme i released

I disagree. There's no better chipset for gaming than Tegra2. You'll be hard pressed to find another phone that, when overclocked, hits 100 FPS. Just my opinion.
The NS is hype, a brand, and a loyal group of followers...none of which merit the glorification it receives. G2x is in every way a better phone; the resale value bit mentioned before is complete bull****. The NS sells for the same, if not more than the G2x. I think it's complete bull****. G2x blows the NS out of the water. You can keep an active community, but to me, it comes down to specs. NS is old and can't compare to newer, better technology.

like I said in the OP. g2x has better hardware and Nexus has better software.
I don't care how many cores is in a phone. as long as it works how it should, and the g2x was not doing that FOR ME. Take an iPhone 3gs for instance, I don't think it even had a 1ghz processor yet its as smooth as a 1ghz android.
different strokes for different folks

How's the NS? What's your thoughts after trading? Pros and cons?
My Pros of NS:
Super Amoled
Endless dev support & official Google support
Camera quality looks better
No memory leaks=multitasking King even with 512mb of ram!
My Pros of G2x:
Dual Core Processor!
Micro SD slot
Gorgeous looking device!
Although both the NS and G2x have a 4 inch screen, the G2x screen just looks much bigger and I love the almost natural looking whites.
My Cons of NS:
Single Core Processor
Screen attracts finger prints like crazy and so does the entire phone!
My Cons of G2x:
Lack of drivers=lack of excellent quality roms (no offense to the devs)!
Camera sucks so bad!!! I know its a software issue since the camera was way better with LG's camera app on official Froyo (I've owned a G2x before)
Battery life SMH! Need I explain?
Conclusion: I love both phones. Either phone fits me well since all I really look for is a phone that makes/receives calls, browse the internet well and text. I'm pretty simple. I love the G2x hardware, just hate LG for letting it go to waste. This phone really had and still has potential to be something great. It definitely is better than the NS when it comes to hardware, but software wise the NS has this phone by a long shot.
Luckily I haven't had any random reboots or overheating as my other G2x did in the past. And I notice very little screen bleeding so I'm happy!

exactly, my pros and cons would be exactly the same. i wish the Nexus had a removable sd, but then i can always mount it.
but im sure u wont get any overheat/ reboot, it never occurred when i owned the phone for about 4 weeks.
im satisfied tho, i have a device i can settle down with for about 6 months...maybe more .
i just need to get used to the button arrangement on the nexus s....its f*ucking confusing me

G2x or Sensation?

So I have a G2x sitting in my shopping cart on tmo(not upgrading paying outright so no contract extenstion) and I'm faced with a huge choice. Do I buy the LG now or wait for the sensation? Like sense but always run cm for speed so every phone that I had that came with sense stock always was replaced with cm. There are pros and cons to both phones
htc sensation:better display and bigger(I actually like smaller screens)
g2x: more internal memory but less ram
htc is 1.2ghx and the g2x is 1.
It's such a hard choice to make. So my question is for those of you who got the g2x why did you get it instead of waiting for the sensation? What reasons did you have on going with the g2x as opposed to waiting for the htc? I really dont know if I should get the g2x or wait it out a bit. I am itching to hit that "complete order" button on the g2x though
I'd be coming from a mytouch 4g

I don't own a G2X, only played with one alongside my NS for a bit. I don't really know that you're going to notice a huge difference in speed coming from your Glacier on CM7 at 1.5ghz ...it's a really fast phone. Are there some other features you feel like your missing with the Glacier that you could get from the G2X?
Edit: I don't have a G2x in my cart, but I'm itching too as well...!
I was waiting for the Sensation....but I only made it 4 hours on the 15th before giving in and ordering online.
Only thing I like better about the sensation is the qHD display...but the G2X screen is still nice.
I also didnt want a huge screen phone that hardly fits in your pocket, the G2X size is good.
Well, I guess I'll just list my reasons out.
1. I, like you, don't like 4.3" screens, 4" is perfect for me and the display on the G2X is fantastic, even at 800x480 resolution.
2. I figured the .2 difference in ghz wasn't a big deal considering the resolution difference in the phones, 960x480 vs 800x480. As we've all seen, the G2X smokes the Atrix because of resolution alone, despite the 512mb ram difference.
3. Ram isn't going to make the phone run any better as we've already seen in Atrix vs G2X. It will help if your running tons of intensive apps at once, but it shouldn't be making much a difference 90% of the time.
4. A lot of devs are on the fence on supporting the sensation due to locked bootloaders. Even Cyanogen has said that they may not be supporting because of that very issue. And dev support is VERY important to me.
5. HDMI Mirroring on the G2X. This feature may also be on the sensation, but I haven't heard of it yet.
In all, I'm very happy I got the G2X. It runs like a champ and that's on Froyo. I can't wait till Cyanogen7 comes out.
P.S. The Optimus 2X has already been overclocked to 1.3 and 1.4 ghz if that means anything to you.
Hope this helps man. Good luck with whatever you get.
I never want a phone that has Sense on it.
Simple choice.
Well I got it because I'm a phone junkie. And I will be getting the sensation as soon as it drops. The G2x is a great phone much better than the vibrant and when it get GB it will be better than the nexus s.

Thanks for that man! Is that true that Cyanogen really might not support the sensation? Dev support is also very important to me. I never rely on carriers, always the community. I too am iffy about a 4.3 inch screen. I think my screen on my mt4g is pretty big enough for me especially since I have two android tablets for when I need a bigger screen android experience

Overall you guys are happy with the g2x? build quality is solid? any issues like bad displays or any nonsense like that?
Im in the same boat. im kinda leaning towards waiting though. The g2x is an awesome device but the larger and higher res screen on the sensation is enough to make me hold off.

if this is indeed true then i would get the g2x also. higher res screen (960x540) is nice but not as important as dev support. Btw, where did you read that cyanogen might not support it?
I'm still going back and forth if I'm going to order it or wait.. part of me really wants to just click that order button.. god I think I've made much more important decisions quicker than this one..

I looked at the main site and sure enough, it was out of stock Guess I will be calling the closest store in the AM seeing if they have any in stock. After looking at some vids of the sensation I think it's just too big for me. I think the biggest I would go is 4" Hope I can pick one up tomorrow
Hopefully! I'll tell you now my store was pretty well stocked and I was there about 2 hours after they opened. Funny thing is the sametime I was going in I counted about 5 or 6 other people going in for the same thing...good luck! =P

I'm personally waiting on the sensation I have a g2x its a nice phone I only use it for HDMI mirroring only use for me. I'm not scared of lock bootloader just be harder to crack. People said the g2 was unhackable and look at it now. Motorola signs thiers and uses encryption. The thunderbolt was hacked as well. If their is enough support it will be broken. Alot of developers are going still get this phone. The evo3d will be hacked as well once either phone is hacked well have an opening.

[Q] Going to T-Mobile... G2X or Sensation???

Hi Guys... I have a bit of a predicament here. I will be switching to T-Mobile soon, and I need to figure out what phone to get! Basically it boils down to the Sensation or the G2X. Both of them now officially have Gingerbread, with the G2X being stock Android.
Originally I thought that the Sensation would be the sure choice due to it having 768mb of RAM instead of 512mb and because of the qHD screen.
BUT, as I've been researching more and more, I am seeing a lot of reports on how the Sensation screen isn't that great and can look washed out, and worse yet, I see a LOT of reports that the battery life is AWFUL.
I have tried to find more information on the G2X screen but other than it being LCD and 800x480. But I don't know if this is just me, but of the videos and images I've seen of the G2X, I almost have the impression that the contrast ratio and brightness of its screen is better than the Sensation. Has anybody compared them side by side? What do you think about this?
Two other things that make me lean in the direction of the G2X would be that the Sensation has only 1GB of internal storage and the G2X has 8gb, with both having microSD. And also I believe that the Tegra 2 GPU in the G2X is quite a bit better than the Adreno 220 in the Sensation.
So I am totally stuck now and can't make up my mind I'd love to hear input from you guys, especially if you've used both phones side by side (and if you've used gingerbread on the G2X even better!)

No thanks... I currently have a Galaxy S and am looking to upgrade to a dual core phone. And I've had too many issues with the GPS on my Mesmerize (which I rely on heavily). If we were talking about the Galaxy S II that would be different, but it isn't an option unless I want to spend a lot of money for an unlocked phone.

I was talking about the SGS4G not the II but i havent had an issue with the gps on this and if you compare all three of these phone, most people will tell you to get the 4G. And tmobile is getting the Hercules which is dual core. I believe ig should come out next month

IMO the Sensation hands down. The G2x does run a lot smoother than I had anticipated but the Sensation is made by a better company and I personally can't get over the look of the screen on the G2x. It looks so thick and plastic-y

I prefer the g2x. I had the GS4g it is reall slow compared to all the dual core ones coming out.
I do currently have the sensation though, I had a problem with the g2x replacement that was sent to me from t-mobile and decided to just sell it and buy one.
G2x is a lot faster and has stock which is awesome, but Sensation has better build quality/bigger screen.
G2X has way better support for games, the sensation is lagging behind, even though its packed with specs it can't really use it.
Sensation's camera is WAY better than the G2X.

G2x for Nexus s?

never been so confused as to what move to make when it comes to a trade.
i have been offered an nexus s for my g2x.
how is the gps on the nexus?
are roms like miui and cm7 stable?
and does ics live up to the hype?
thanks
cmon guys!!!
Miui just released another stable version for Nexus S, so the answer is yes.
I haven't use CM7 for long, but Oxygen ROM was my daily driver and it was awsome.
The ICS experience is speechless. Everything is smooth, fast and stable. You will need to find the combination of ROM + kernel that suits your needs.
In my opinion, you should do the trade.

okay. so you're asking if cm7 and miui are stable on NS? well Both roms are gingerbread based and the nexus s was made for gingerbread. so my answer: HELL YEEAH .
ICS is even better for me! Using peter alfonso's ICS rom now and it is rockstable with awesome batterylife
the G2x has only a better camera and processor.. so its a decision you have to make. I would take the NS..
Ain't G2X have a Tegra2 processor? I dunno men, ROMs are better for NS, but not sure if it's a reason to get a slower hardware...
edit: also no HDMI out, worse camera, not even 720p videorecording, front camera is VGA only, no gorilla glass...

the main reason im considering this is ICS and amoled.
its basically hardware vs. software.....hardware cant be upgraded but software can.
maybe il wait till g2x gets cm9...cuz we have no type of ics love at all!

maybe il wait till g2x gets cm9...cuz we have no type of ics love at all!

Make sure then, that it is not i9023, since it has S-LCD, not AMOLED. I don't think ICS makes such difference. It's beautiful, and I love it, but when I'm not in drawer, or settings, i'm using my 'old' apps, from gingerbread.
Maybe you should check out a nexus s, in a shop, or a friend's phone. I love my NS, and I hate to say this, but I think it's much slower...

thanks for the info. its a i9020t
did u ever own or use a g2x?
I tried an optimus 2x, i think it's almost the same. Loved the camera, and the gaming performance. For the basic phone functions even my old 600MHz device was enough, so your choice depends on usage. For multimedia tegra, for everything else NS.

Don't do it, man. You'll be disappointed.
I know it looks great now, but once you start using it you'll slowly see the disadvantages, which all are because of slower hardware.
You can wait a bit more for CM9, which will be available on the G2x and it will run a lot smoother than on the NS.
At least this is what I would do.

thanks for ur input, my current phone (g2x) cost less than the nexus s, and dual core of the g2x cant be fully used because nvidia never release source. so it does have its own slow down now on miui and cm7.
i think il go with the nexus s...if i dont like it (doubt that), then it has a higher resell value
I wouldnt do the trade. Considerable downgrade just for a better screen. I'm sure that phone will get ics eventually. Officially or not.
We have both devices in our household, I have owned the Nexus S since it was first released and the wife recently received the G2X on a warranty trade in from a Galaxy S 4G.
I have had only one major issue with my Nexus S, a couple of days after getting it the thing decided to go into a hard bootloop that was only fixed by unlocking the bootloader and rooting the thing. I've had no issues with the hardware since. Software issues caused by ROMs I don't like, sure.
The G2X is a great piece of hardware, unless you are unlucky enough to get one that has hardware issues. We believe that the one in our household is one that seems to like to go into the "sleep of death". I've tried a couple of different ROMs on it and nothing seems to help it out in that regard.
I would say that if your G2X doesn't have the SOD issue, then keep it. The dev community may not be as active with that device....but then the dev community has really only started to pick up over here. If you just want a Nexus device, then by all means the NS is a great phone, it's just starting to get up there in years when it comes to the hardware. It's still the best device I've ever owned and I don't see myself upgrading it for awhile.
got the nexus s........and im freaking loving it!!!
thanks for the opinion....my mind was made before i started the thread lol
Hey I remember you from the vibrant forums. Lol. I just got rid of my vibrant about 2 weeks ago and got a nexus s. Hands down from hardware to software the best phone I've ever owned.

lol same here. way better than vibrant and g2x....I mean miui on this baby is a dream. and hey, 911 dialing actually works....instead of risking emergencies to use cm or miui.
the smoothness on the NS is equal to the g2x dual core on miui and cm roms, and samaungs 5mp blows away LGs 8mp.
not trying to bash g2x but I just love the NS.

Who else got the Galaxy Nexus?

Just bought my Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store, can't say I regret it... just yet. Anyways, who else bit the bullet? The HD screen, plus ICS and pure google made it irresistible...
Nope. Can't afford a new phone and what's the point? I mean yea you get a nicer total hardware and all, but I really only use my phone for web browsing when not at my computer and texting.
I don't feel it would be worth upgrading from a one year old phone for no real upgrades.
You didn't miss out on anything. I did not like the Nexus. My SGS2 blew it away. The pentile screen on the Nexus left much to be desired. No expandable memory, and the touchscreen nav buttons take up screen space, making the useable screen space limited. Returned it.
Getting a G2x tomorrow to use as a daily driver. Will install the latest ICS for it. I look forward to checking out the devs work around here.

Do you really need that much developmnts going on? You cellphone to make make phone calls, texting, browse the web, games.
If android do need that many, that would mean a really big question on its quality.

Well I use my device constantly, and the screen size was one of my constant conplaints about the G2x. I love the phone, but I fell the G2x better suits my needs.

Of course the on screen nav keys take up space, that's why the screen size is 4.65"? There's less space wasted into bezel however, and that's appreciated. I definitely agree with the Pentile screen though, can't be that bad though.
Why are you downgrading from a SGS2 to a G2x however?

I still have the TMo SGS2. It dominates the Nexus. I was excited to get the Nexus, but it did not live up to expectations. Best phone out there is the SGS2 by TMo.
I got a good deal on a G2x, so I picked one up. Looks to be a nice phone. Reminds me of my Vibrant, but with upgraded specs.
Nexus = fail
SGS2 by TMo = best
G2x = tbd

I got the Tmobile GS2 and its become my main phone for a month now.
I really really really hated it. Back of my mind I still hate it. I have small hands and 4.7 screen really is too big. I hate the stock SMS app and replaced it with the CM7 SMS.
Slowly the phone has won me over, mainly because its reliable and doesn't have any crap or surprises. It just works.
I would have kept the G2X as my main but the reliability and GPS really killed it for me. Also, data kept just stopped working sometimes. Stupid little bugs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, I've slowly warmed up to my SGS2 but slowly. I hate that it doesn't have CM7 solid and stable as my G2. TouchWiz does ok. It wins for reliability. I've tried to trade it. But really there isn't any better phones out there on T-Mobile. HTC One doesn't sway me because no memory expansion.
Right now I'm slowly moving all my personal data and info from the CM7 to Stock 2.3.3 on my G2X. Going stock for a while and away from CM7 based ROMS. Its a hate/love relationship on the phone. If it were solid and stable as the G2, I wouldn't have gotten the SGS2.
I think everyone should just be patient, not bite the bullet for the Galaxy Nexus, and wait till June for T-Mobile to put out the S3!
Patience FTW.

Time to get some big boy pants
I love it too. I use my phone a lot for browsing the web too, and the GN makes it a lot better. Nice screen, and flash doesn't lag on the web unlike on the G2x.
But saying the S2 is better and Nexus is a fail is quite wrong. There's still no official ICS for the TMO S2... And that big screen with such low res looks ugly to me. I'm sure Whitehawkx and Roman left that phone for the Nexus for those same reasons.
But the G2x is awesome in it's own ways. I liked it as much as everyone else here with the G2x.

What ROM you running on your GN King?

True, and a better phone than the T-Mo GS2 would be Sprints or At&t's, as they have the Exynos CPU.
And none yet unfortunately, its arriving tomorrow. Any recommendations?
When the Galaxy Note/SGSIII hits Tmo, and the price is reasonable, I'll prob jump ship...
Maybe jumping ship around Aug... Or maybe if LG gave us a half decent release of ICS, I'll stay. Wub u all <3

G2X or SGSII

Hey G2X users!!
I have been contemplating this situation for months! Now i wanna get the users personal opinion
What is your take on the LG G2X? Is it good? I looked at the specs on LG's website and im liking them. But how does it feel being used every day? Is it better or worse than the SGSII? If so by how much? I really hate buying new things cause i hate when i buy the wrong thing Thanks so much guys for your time!

what are the prices for them is it craigslist, or literally a new like straight from T-Mobile? Overall in my opinion SGS II or wait for a couple months and get the SGS III, or HTC One S now, I say stay from the G2X cause of lack of support from both parties that put the phone out.

Well the sgs2 is average 350+ and they claim it's "like new" or "used for only one week" which I find hard to believe. and the lg g2x average 200+ and I have a pre paid plan from t mobile and love it so I wouldn't be able to get the sgs3 sadly (that phone looks so sexy ) and yes the HTC one s I could most likely get but the people I've talked to about their sgs2 say the the sgs2 is better (I don't see how ) and they use that as their means for being firm about their price. Thanks for your input btw

The GS2 is more expensive, but it's a better investment. It has generally better specs, and the Development looks more promising because of Samsung's support.

If I could go back in time, I would wait a week for the SII. It came out a week right after I got the G2x. Stock, I found the G2x to be nearly unbearable. Rooted with custom ROMs, it's good. Not sure how the development community is for the SII, but I'd still probably pick it over the G2x

Well I guess I'll have to wait xD wish I could sell my stupid Sirius satellite radio and Kyle Yamaha keyboard then I'd have plenty lol thanks all for your comments! Didn't realize the g2x was that bad it actually looked pretty sweet and in terms of development I'd just need a fully working cm7 ROM with data2ext working which takes care of the 512mb issue but I'll wait

I just ordered a gently used G2x on ebay (they go around $200, depending on condition). This is a good value for the specs. The Galaxy S2 is $350+, which gets into a new Galaxy Nexus territory. From what I've researched, custom ROMs like CM7 should be pretty stable and fully functional, most of the problems with the G2x are software anyway. Only hardware issue is the camera dust under cover, which I plan to remedy by putting a clear tape over the LED flash, which I normally don't use anyway.
Also LG already announced ICS for Optimus 2X (international version), it's just delayed again to 3rd quarter, once that is out, one of the major problems with current CM9 ROMs should be resolved (no video acceleration or recording).
Speaking from experience, I have both phones.
GS2 wins for stability, just works, and has a better camera than the LG G2X. But..... personally I'm not thrilled with the GS2 device for the sheer size.
I've used G2X for almost a year. You just have to find a ROM you can live with and make tweaks so that it won't freeze/crash while charging. Other than that, phone is solid. CM7 was best ROM and overall performance. Stock gave best battery but I can't stand STOCK ROMs.
But the biggest reason I really switched to the GS2 was sick of the random crazy battery life and the GPS never working when I need it for emergencies.
I made the mistake of not test driving the GS2 on T-mobile store to get a better feel. Big screen with low resolution is what pisses me off, on top of the fact that the size of the phone isn't friendly to my small hands. If I overlook those two flaws, sure its awesome phone.
Also, the T989 just doesn't have a variety of ROMS available and have to wait for the official release from Tmobile, CM7 isn't reliable for it (I love CM7), and has no CM9 love yet.
I might overlook the negatives I have if Dev for T989 picked up. Until then, it works, reliable, and no headaches.

I own a G2X, my buddy has a Sgs2 an I would not trade him dead even! The G2X is resilient and easily customizable. Dev support for the G2X is 50 to 1 compared to the Sgs2. I have (and still do) flashed numerous Roms and Kernels to my phone with little or no issue. He bricked his rather quickly. He got his second one and asked me to root and customize - which I did. I was astonished at how little there was to look at / choose from in the Samsung forums here.

You must be talking about T-Mobile GS2. SGS2 international is one of the best supported devices out there, has official ICS + fully functional CM9.
Sweet, love all the input guys!! Really giving me a lot to work with and make my decision harder xD
I have a few questions, I found an SGS2 CM7 ROM that lists everything as working. And i too love CM7 waiting for AOKP or CM9 to obtain all the awesome features that CM7 has then i'll make the swap.
From what you guys posted it seems like the G2X has better stability and development. And yes i am talking about the SGH-T989 i cannot use the international version on T-Mobile as it doesnt support the 1700mhz frequency so i wont get 3G.
I am really liking the SGS2 ive been on youtube looking at different videos and it looks pretty awesome. Plus the super amoled display is stunning. Also, to the person who commented on the SGS2 having a lower resolution, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying the 800x400 is too small for the size? The screen is only .2 inches bigger than my HD2 which has the same resolution and i dont see it a problem. I might get the SGS2, i do really like the Amoled display. Ugh decisions decisions xD
Thanks all for the awesome information!
Got another question, 7o both phones support more than two finger multi touch?
