For about the past 3-4 months there have been random times where I have to reboot in order to receive new text messages.
The weird part is all of my other features work (email, internet, outgoing texts).
I havent changed switched ROMS or anything in about 7-8 months (using Fission 2.4.3).
Any know what the possible cause & solution may be?

Have you ever tried fix permisisions or wipe cache
Sent from my DROID 2G w/4.5.608 rooted using XDA App
I havent tried fix permissions yet but I just downloaded it and i see it allows you to fix certain applications. Im not sure which or if an app would be causing the problems but I doubt it.
I will try wiping the cache, thanks for the suggestions.
With ROM Manager, you can fix all permissions.

So I finally decided it was time for a new ROM after living with a Rooted stock for so long.I'm loving Cyanogenmod but with one issue. I cannot receive pictures from other Aria's... I got a picture from an iPhone but two other users that have Aria's sent me pictures and they simply says download of message was unsuccessful... I read about some setting changes with APN but that didn't seem to work with any of the changes I tried. Is this a known issue I somehow missed, a bug I should report somewhere, or am I just doing something wrong?
I personally don't know anyone else with an Aria...but I receive MMS messages all the time with no problem from many different phone...including other Androids. Don't know. I would try clearing data, both caches and try flashing again.
Yeah I have thought about reflashing since it was my first run at it with this phone but I didn't notice until a couple of days into having it, just got moved in! Oh well, that's the price for doing this kind of stuff. I was just curious to see if anyone else was having issues like I mine.
My opinion would be to wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (advanced > wipe dalvik) and then reflash the rom. No need to WIPE data.
Well do u have mobile connection turned on? if I have it off I won't receive any mms
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I didn't turn it off... but I have received pictures from an iphone so I would assume that means its turned on. Getting ready to brswattt's recommendation to see if it fixes it.
Ok so I tried wiping the cache's and reflashing, still no dice... I even tried going in a resetting cache and data for the messaging apps. Its doing it both in the messaging app and hancent... any thoughts? Maybe a complete wipe?
I have the same problem. I can receive from iPhones and other phones, but not my wife's Aria. I had this problem since September, with every RC of CM6. I assumed it was a ID10T error, but now that I see otehrs with the same prob, maybe not!
Both myself and the wife have arias...both running cm 6.1.1 able to send and receive mms to each other

Can you speak in English?
Anyway, have you guys tried changing the "Customer User-Agent" setting under the settings menu inside the SMS app? It spoofs the phone in to something else.
Tried the user agent, great idea, but it didn't work. I tried several different user agents...
@seanfinn - I think the issue might be Cyanogenmod receiving from stock Aria, since the two people that I'm having problems with are on stock ROMs but they can receive them from me with no problem.
I have noticed that even other Androids are working fine so its just Aria's... I would normally say forget about it and move on but the two people that I message the most are these two Arias - seems like that is how it always happens.

I think you are correct. My wife has a stock Aria, and that is the only phone I have trouble receiving from.
Got this phone a week ago and I've sent a bunch of pictures to people through MMS. I've just now learned that none of those pictures were ever received. I don't get any sort of error message; it seems to send just fine. But when I ask if they received the pics, they always say no.
And no, this isn't the problem with 8MP pictures taken with the camera that won't compress properly with the stock Messaging app. This includes smaller pictures about 500KB in size. I have also tried alternative apps such as GO SMS Pro with no success.
I have another issue with receiving MMS messages. I do receive pictures, but they only open as a weird 5-second slideshow as if it's a video file. The only way to view the full size is to download the file and then go to the Gallery app.
Any ideas?
I have an issue with ppl receiving my mms. My issue is that they get the pic like 24-36 hours later
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I've had similar issues too, particularly with sending MMS to my friends with iPhones. I've sent group messages which didn't deliver at all, and I've sent pictures which took hours upon hours to send, but when I sent my brother a picture on his old flip phone, he got it within seconds.
strange... I never had any issue.
Actually, I just tried doing some debugging a few hours ago sending MMS to my family, and I even tried using 3rd party messaging software, but still no luck. They just don't want to send.

I've never had any problem either.
I know this isn't helpful (& I hate when other people respond like this) but maybe something in the way my phone is setup is working a little differently.
I got my phone from a pre-order & on the very first boot I rooted it etc. When the root66 ROM was released, I completely wiped everything & flashed the ROM fresh.
I use Handcent, but the stock MMS/SMS app works fine also (I just tried it). Other than flashing that ROM, all I have done is remove or freeze all the Verizon bloatware & everything works perfectly (& it's fast as hell also)
I've been having this issue ever since I bought it, including stock and root66 roms. I've tried using the stock messenger, Go SMS, and also the closest thing to the AOSP messenger I could find on the market, all with the same problem.
That message I sent out to my family when trying to debug it, they finally got it... around 12 hours later.
I just tried it again tonight, and it seems to be working fine, so it seems to be an intermittent issue. I've sent out 3 or 4 that took ours, and I've sent 2 or 3 that delivered immediately. And as far as when I was testing, same exact picture, same exact text, one took 12 hours, the other instant. It couldn't possibly be an issue with coverage, I've got 4G and almost full bars everywhere, plus I'm connected to wifi.
If you've got any clue as to what setting we may have accidentally changed, please do share because I haven't a clue (and tbh, there's not a lot to customize in the stock app)
Boy that really is strange, I haven't had the problem myself but maybe I just haven't used MMS enough to run into it.
First off, I have already found the SMSC help threads and verified my message center is the correct one for AT&T.
Sometimes, when I send SMS to certain people (random people?) the phone will say they are sent but the recipient will not get the message until 3-4 hours later. In the mean time I can text other people normally.
It gets weirder, I was thinking it was an inter-carrier issue, but if I reboot my phone, all of the missing messages will suddenly arrive at the recipient's phone. Its as if the phone tells me they are sent while they are in some backed up queue?
I was using Scott's regular build (several versions where I have this problem intermittently) and just upgraded to his beanstalk build and have the same issue.
I use GoSMS for my messaging.
Anyone heard of anything like this or can direct me to some help?
Much thanks!
And major props to Scott for his wonderful builds, my phone has never worked so well, minus whatever this issue is!
The notification badge on my stock Messaging app icon is incorrectly showing 1 unread message.
I have a totally stock Droid RAZR MAXX HD running 4.4.2. My stock messaging app is version 4.4.2-10. SMS is set to "Messaging" (not "Hangouts"). All settings are default. Verizon Wireless is my service provider.
From my own troubleshooting, I have concluded that the problem is probably KitKat-related since stopping, disabling, and clearing (data, cache, and defaults) the stock messaging app has no effect. Also, this problem started after my OTA upgrade to KitKat (never had it before). Further, after completely disabling the stock messaging app, I alternatively installed GO SMS Pro, chomp SMS, and Verizon Messages and experienced the exact same problem with each.
Any ideas about how to fix this problem, without FDR'ing or rooting the phone, would be greatly appreciated.
clear dalvik?
you try clearing dalvik cache?
Great suggestion, but how do I perform it? Can you direct me to instructions on how to clear the Dalvik cache on a stock RAZR MAXX HD running KitKat? I can't find any that don't require a rooted phone. Thx much.

i never have stock recovery on, so i could be wrong, but i dont think you can do that in stock recovery.
which means you would have to put on a custom one and root, which i think you said you didnt want to do.
it is somewhat common to have random issues like this on a major software upgrade, especially one that jumped so many other builds.
i know you really dont want to do it, but clearing the corrupted data is really the best course of action, and it may be the only one honestly.
and if you are going to go that far, it is really best to just re-flash the phone encase something in the system is corrupt. just no point in going 1/2 way just to find out you still have the issue later.
sorry thats not the answer you were looking for, but sometimes it is not avoidable.

Have the same problem - I find that if I delete a recent MMS message sent from me, then it goes back to normal.

nice suggestion :good: i have never heard of that.
thanks
yeah dont think its possible on a phone that isnt rooted or has a custom recovery, whats the reason you dont want to to root?
Unfortunately, deleting all SMS and MMS messages did not solve the problem either, so I just FDR'ed the phone. Problem is gone on reboot of course, but so is 13 months worth of app configuration. I would root the phone this time except that the screen is also acting up on me and the phone still has 4 months left on the Costco warranty that I got (for free) with the phone. Wouldn't it be great if Android "L" allowed you to back up app settings along with apps without the need to root the phone first! Thx to all.

Follow-up: same problem occurred following FDR. It is related to MMS messaging and it is solved by removing all MMS messages from phone. I did not have this problem with JB. It showed up after OTA upgrade to KK. Too bad for those who like to keep their MMS messages.
Hello, I've had the unlocked Note 10+ for a few weeks and have had chronic issues since day one and not really sure what to do about it. A lot of the issues seem to get worse over time. Not sure if the problems are related, but it feels like it.
First, I have MMS issues mostly with any other app but the built in messaging app and even that one isn't perfect. Using Textra for instance will get me MMS timeouts sending and receiving and sometimes messages don't send or come in. This seems to happen with or without wifi enabled.
Next, I'm getting delayed notifications on many if not all apps. Notifications will some in here or there, then all of a sudden I'll get all the notifications for the day all at once. So suddenly my phone is going crazy receiving 50 notifications from different apps all at once. Related to that, if I get a notification and click on it to open the related app, often nothing happens. Then like an hour or more later the app I clicked on for the notification will pop open in the middle of doing something else. It will also get hung up installing or updating apps. A reboot will usually clear this but at some point it get's stuck again and will take hours to install an app if it does at all.
I've done all the usual things like disabling battery optimization for the apps in question, set the phone to high performance mode. Uninstalled and reinstalled things, cleared the cache partition, reset network settings, checked APN settings, even now have factory reset the phone, twice, got a new SIM card. Talked to Samsung and they tell me I need to mail it to their repair depot in Texas if I think it's hardware.
So no idea where to go with this. Seems hard to believe it's a hardware problem and sending the phone away for a week or more doesn't seem like a great option, especially when they might just send it back as it works OK for awhile after a reboot.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
After you reset the phone, did you install apps manually from store or let it go off a backup?
Also, just an idea but maybe the tower servicing you is acting up.. Unless it's been happening in multiple areas.

That is a good point, I did let it install automatically from the Google backup. It wasn't a true restore the way I would generally think of it as everything was installed from scratch, but maybe some settings are getting put back that are messed up. It happens out of the are as well, but I did talk to my carrier and they claimed the did some stuff at the tower that might help. I usually think that means they go get coffee then tell me to reboot the phone. Maybe this evening I'll try a fresh install with no restore. Sort of sucks of course as that's a lot more work to get going, but what the hell at this point. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. I have a note 10+ myself now unlocked and seeing some texting issues where I don't receive text or mms from Apple phones. Hasn't happened with Android to Android though.
Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
So none of that reinstall stuff helped me. On texting I finally tried the Google Messages app with chat features enabled when it was leaked. Messages alone didn't work, but enabling RCS did and now it actually works better than ever. I hate giving up on textra, but I like the sheer speed of sending giant MMS messages now.
On the notifications thing, the thing that finally got that working right was disabling the Google app. As soon as I did that, all is working as expected. Of course that breaks some Google stuff, but at the moment that's what I have to do to make this work. Even upgrading to Android 10 betas didn't allow me to turn that back on.
