Hello all,
I'm new to this whole modding thing, but i've been trying to install cyanogenmod v7 and cyanogenmod nighly on my phone.. everytime i get stuck at the blue LG screen forever.. the only way i could fix it was to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17258229
My question is, is there a reason why my phone gets "bricked" everytime i try to install the mod? i've been following the guides step by step.. and it always gets stuck once my phone reboots, either if i download directly from rom manager or install it from rom manager thru my sd card..
thank in advance for the help
It's not "bricked", haha.
Which CM7s are you trying to flash and how long is "forever" when you get stuck?
Have you tried any other roms?
oh woops ;P
I tried this one..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108201
and
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/32478-cyanogenmod-7-for-the-lg-g2x-v7101-11-oct-2011/
Pretty much after its "installed" the phone reboots, then locks onto the LG blue screen for about 10 minutes.. thats the longest ive let it run..

For our phone's, you pretty much never use rom manager for anything (except renaming your backups) so don't use it.
Not sure what your problem could be. Just nvflash again, download a rom, boot in recovery manually and flash. Don't use rom manager to download or flash a recovery.
Is there a mod in particular that you would recommand?
Thank you so much for your help
I was able to install the latest nightly version + the google apps and everything works like a charm, im so happy
Glad to hear you're up and running.
Enjoy your phone!

Hi, any luck with this issue?! I'm having exactly the same problem
You could try flashing the recovery through fastboot or even wipe the device and flash the ROM through fastboot.
Thanks... At the end I wasn't even able to get into Clockwork Mod Recovery. Found a guide on how to force my way into Clockwork Mod, and tried to load a ROM - without success...
I ended up leaving my phone on boot the whole night, and sure enough, it was working in the morning. Mind you, I've had it booting or more than half an hour before, and nothing happened.
So personally, I don't have an explanation why it works all of a sudden.
My suggestion is, leave it booting overnight and "hope for the best" - it worked for me.
Ok, so I did my first root last night with my G2x and flashed CM7 onto it using the instructions here for GB. The process didn't seem to go through at first because it kind of froze for awhile, but when I took out the battery and put it back in it loaded up. (I understand I may have made a mistake here.)
I thought all was good but then I tried to boot up Clockwork recovery to flash the GAPPs zip and everytime I tried it wouldn't go through the screens it is supposed to.
I'd hold the down volume and power buttons and the first LG (white) would show. Then it would bring up a cyan colored horizontal loading bar under the LG. I continue to hold the buttons hoping to see the cyan LG but then screen changes to a box with an orange arrow pointing to an android logo. There is a loading bar under this as well. If I let go here it loads up CM7 but if I continue holding on it takes me to the S/W screen.
I've tried this multiple times but I've kinda given up. I even tried individually installing the apks from the GAPPS zip but only a few of them successfully installed.
At a loss .Please let me know what I can do.
Let me guess. You flashed CWM via ROM manager?
Follow he guide here and let us know how it goes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Also, before you install the ROM use the wipe tool in my sig.
I appreciate the response but I did use that thread to flash it.

When it get to the point where "the cyan colored horizontal loading bar" let go of the volume and power button and see if it boots into CWM.
Ok, I tried that and it went to that android logo screen again. Then it went to a black screen and then the cyan LG logo screen. From there it booted up CM7.
I just noticed when I try to boot into Clockwork it erases everything I added to it including contacts and apps I installed.

Try rooting process all over again... just make sure battery have plenty of charge and make sure during any of the process there's no interruptions... let us know what happen after that...

I will unroot and try again. A few questions though:
I'm reading and it looks like I need to be able to boot into CWR to be able to unroot...is using ROM Manager a safe alternative?
And also, while I followed the instructions for flashing through the thread you provided last time, I read that I may need to erase/wipe certain types of data before I do so to avoid the market problems. Can someone provide me information on that?
I just want to make sure I do this right a second time.

No need to unroot... as long as your computer still detect your phone... just flash everything again... I mean since you want to root... I would just do all the rooting process again... and reflash clock work... don't use rom manager to flash clockwork mod...
Or
And since you can't get into clockwork... you can just try flashing clockwork again... no rom manager

Sweet, so I reflashed CWR and CM7 and I got my contacts back and several other minor issues were corrected.
I am experiencing a new problem now though. Whenever I try to download from the market it tells me "[App name] could not be downloaded due to an error."
What can be done to fix this?

Rom Manager is not a safe alternative. Stay with Nvidia ClockworkMod.
Its should be a blue lg logo when you have to let go of the buttons.

Every time before you re- flash a rom I would recommend doing a data/factory reset within clockwork recovery. then Wipe your cache. And then even a wipe of the dalvic cache under advanced settings. Then flash the rom then gapps. Then reboot. Its called doing a clean install. It just makes everything smoother when re- flashing. And if your apps ever not update like that again just fix the permissions in clockworkmod then reboot. It usually fixes it. And i don't recommend flashing directly from the rom manager. Do it from recovery instead. Hope this helps.

Similar issue, totally different outcome...
Ladies and Gentlemen (and low-lifes),
I have found myself in a similar situation, after recently flashing a ROM, to where I am now unable to boot into CW Recovery. The ROM flashed is working fine but when I attempt to boot into recovery I get a black screen and it never progresses beyond that. I have attempted to reflash of course via NVFlasher and from all indications it's been a successful flash. That said, the results remain the same... black screen.
FYI: I have not yet attempted to flash back to Stock Recovery.
•Current Rom - Owain's Domination v77 (a great ROM by the way)
•Current kernel - Harsh's 3.0.32
•Used Nullifier to prep device for ROM install (as I have been doing for sometime now)
If anyone has any experience w/this issue or any advice going forward I would greatly appreciate it.
UPDATE: (that was fast huh?) .................................................................................................................................................................................................
So I went ahead and flashed the Stock Recovery, tested and got access. I then flashed CWM 5.0.2.0 and to my delight was able to see the CWM console. I let go of the power and volume down buttons and the phone rebooted. Now the ROM will not boot, just sits in a forever cycle on the splash screen and the results continue to be the same as recently mentioned for attempting to get into the freshly flashed recovery.

Ok, I will bring my concerns to an end now. I forced CWM to remain in play by not letting go of the power and vol. down buttons then using my thumb to see if I could stroll through options in CWM. Once I accessed a few it remain stable. I nullified and re-flashed my ROM and all seems ok in my personal corner of the universe. I am now able to boot into CWM without issue.
Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a rooted LG 2x. I installed Clockworkmod from the market and installed it.
Following some guides - to boot into recover(I wanted to backup my system) I pushed Vol Down + Power, and it didnt boot into recovery.. INSTEAD.. it seems to have booted as if its factory new..!? WTF.
I checked the internal/ext SD card and the memory usage is the same.
What do I do??? I just want my old stuff back
To add to it,
I can see the folders/data in the folders through a file explorer, but for some reason it doesnt have the apps and settings?! Anyone help please?? Not sure what to do.
EDIT - Im missing all my messages as well from the inbox.. All I see are the OLD ones from the simcard..
Hopefully you guru's can help.. cos im going nuts!!!
You say you installed Clockworkmod from market and just rooted the device... You seem to have missed to install recovery and what you installed is the ROM manager and not the ROM itself, hence pressing the recovery button combo, resets the device...

I just downloaded clockwork through google market on my phone.
I read that pushing the vol down + power brings up a menu, where you can CHOOSE to have your handset wiped etc, but i didnt get it. I'm in New zealand.
Anyway, I have lost all my messages.. Im just going to flash it with CM7. Im using clockworkmod to download 7.1.0RC1 right now. I have backed up my data(or whats left of it through clockworkmod.
I will give it a go soon I guess.
So i installed cm7, and im getting the boot loop thing.
Trying to work that out. Tips?
Got CWM to recover. back to square one I guess.
I have read so many guides on how to install CM7 that im so confused now.
Can I use CWM to install CM7??
hi i have a samsung captivate i897. i bought it sim free from the states (u'm in uk) rooted running cyanogen mod & miui. i've had it 8months and its been perfect.
i'm no tech guru so i've never done anything else to the phone since i got it.
recently i hada problem with it forcing close on nearly application (see thread here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1936862) but i did a little clean up and uninstalled some apps to free up space and that seemed to help for 13 days.
today i powered it on and browser forced close so i switched if off but when i switched it on again it's now stuck in (i think its called) boot loop - i get the "samsung galaxy s" animation and cyanogen mod then i usually have one that says "xiaomi" and a little music sound play. its this one that keeps looping. so instead of getting the xiaomi animation & music once then it going to the lock/enter pin screen, it just continues to repeat.
i have no idea what to do.
i tried to long press power key but nothing happens.
really hope someone can help. i appreciate any help given but please bear in mind i'm a TOTAL NOOB at this kind of stuff so try to explain things as much as possible for me.
thanks.

Yes, you are stuck in a bootloop. Just boot into recovery and do a clean install.
Download TWRP recovery for your handset. then install using still recovery mode.
TWRP installing using current recovery mode
Installation methord:-
-use Your current recovery.
-update zip file(TWRP Recovery) from sdcard.
-ok
-Reboot your mobile.
-Then install your custom rom using latest recover mode (TWRP Recovery).

A custom recovery is quite likely already installed. Just do the key combination at boot (for your device) to boot into recovery mode. You'd only need that if you want to change the current recovery.

+1. I have a HTC One X that was stuck in bootloop a couple of days ago. I think I flashed some wrong files which caused this issue. I then followed the steps in the Android Revolution HD ROM thread and voila! - had a clean install running smoother than ever! I didn't mind losing all of my data (since everything was already backed up on my PC).
Just do a clean install and your phone will work perfectly fine.
I'd suggest you to start your phone in recovery mode and re-install the software (if you cannot backup your files).

Hey guys, I have a little or rather big problem regarding my LG P920. It only boots into CWM, but here the story:
A few days back I updated my phone to the newest version with the official LG Support tool. After this the performance of my phone went downhill. Scrolling, swiping, typing – all those things lagged and lagged.
So I decied to root my phone using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2366916
Everything worked out fine, I uninstalled some annoying system apps but found that the performance didn’t improve all too much. I went to the next step: custom ROM.
I used this guide: http://www.android-hilfe.de/anleitu...s-custom-roms-fuer-anfaenger.html#post5147071
It’s German, so I’ll try to describe what exactly I did.
First I flashed a ported ICS:
1. I Installed the LG Flash tool 1.2
2. I downloaded this ICS (http://d-h.st/QgU : XBSA404_AP.bin and XBSA404_CP.fls) and also the LGP920_110622.dll
3. I uninstalled the LG drivers and installed the CDMA drivers (version 4.9.4) to make sure the phone is listed as ‘LGE CDMA USB Serial Port’ and changed it to port 41
4. I then flashed that ICS (with .bin and .fls), got to 80% and finished
5. The ICS booted with no problem (only problem: it didn’t seem to recognize my German SIM, but whatever)
Then I installed a new bootloader and CWM:
1. I downloaded Omap4boot v1.25a (forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1641950&d=1358098807)
2. And then installed the OMAP4430 drivers through the device manager
3. I downloaded the non-touch CWM v6.0.1.9
4. And then installed CWM using the ‘start_fastboot.bat’ from the omap4boot folder
After this I decided to flash CM 7.2:
1. I downloaded it from the official CM website and put it onto my SD Card
2. I started my phone into CWM using the button combination and made a backup first
3. I wiped data/factory reset and started to flash the .zip from my SD Card
4. At around 60% the progress bar got stuck at ‘Installung Update’ nothing happened for 30mins so I pulled the battery
5. I tried it again and again – no luck
After this is where it all went wrong (at least I think so)
I noticed that CWM gave me this error quite a few times: Can’t mount internal SD Card
I googled it and read somewhere to do a factory reset from the android menu.
So I restored my backup, rebooted into android, went into the menu and selected factory reset.
The phone went through some progress windows and then powered off and rebooted – into CWM.
From this point on I never got it to NOT boot into CWM.
I tried many things:
1. Restore backup again – no luck
2. Flash ROMS again (CM 7.2, 7 nightly, 10 nightly) – no luck (the installation actually finished, but reboots into CWM)
3. Flash stock ROM using the Flash tool (v21.e) – reboot into CWM
4. All kinds of combinations of wiping/formatting data/cache/dalvik/system/batterystats etc in CWM
5. This guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942836 and the rebooter tool mentioned at the end
6. Using the official LG Support tool to reset upgrade errors – stuck at 4% of installing
I saw another post which suggested to flash universal_recoveryloop_breaker.zip, but this apparently didn’t work and got the phone stuck at LG logo – should I even try it?
I saw other post with similar problems but always another model –p925 or p720 and not much information given about what they did, that’s why I went into detail and hope to find a cure
I saw drastic00's guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39269819 suggested a lot but wanted to post this first before I try a second guide that might only make things worse.
I spend the last few days in front of my PC and phone but nothing worked – I’m starting to go nuts..
I am willing to try everything, to provide any information you might need to help me figure out how to fix this.
Thank you for any help provided – it is greatly appreciated

I saw this being suggested in this thread as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441478
But when he wrote that after trying that he didn't even get into recovery anymore I got scared
You said you flashed and it sticks at LG logo. If you are flashing the correct files, not a wrong binary, factory reset should fix that.
Can you enter download mode? i.e. hold vol up, connect usb to pc, insert battery. You should see "S/W". If not you might need xbsall's or Karim Kahale's unbrick guide. If you DO have download mode, you can just flash as in my guide. But I can't stress enough that drivers must be installed to pc correctly.
Ported ics is old and from the Korean device. Could be cmod is not compatible, dunno, but that could be the issue. In that case you may have a 'hard brick.' Wrong ROM with wrong firmware.
Wait so did u flash recovery loop breaker or not? I am confused. If not flash it. It will delete your recovery then you got to flash another but worth it

I have never had recovery loop, so yeah, you might try what Niko says first.

I don't know what exactly I have sorry, this is my first time rooting, flashing and all that.
The phone only boots into recovery. I can flash other ROMs, I can restore backups and do everything else in CWM, but when I reboot I get booted into CWM again.
I was hesitant to try the loop breaker, because I saw the other thread, but I will try it this afternoon and tell you how it went.
Just a quick question: what if I end up stuck at the LG Logo afterwards?
Update:
I flashed the recovery loop breaker and flashed CM7.2.
When I now start the phone the LG Logo appears for a few seconds, then a white screen with small dots/pixels comes up and the phone is stuck there..
sooooo.. i think this is not good.. right?
I started to prepare for drastic's guide, downloaded all the files and will do that tomorrow or the day after, or would you suggest something else I should try first?
I have never installed cmod so I don't know.
You can follow my guide if you want. Like I say, drivers must be installed correctly and you must pay attention to details.
Doing random things is not going to help you.

Anyway if you do follow drastic00's guide you should be able to revive your phone..TWRP Recovery is integrated in xbsa rom (am I right drastic00? not sure) I would recommend you try xbsa v8 first then you can decide if u want different rom
Also drastic don't want to bring my stuff here but you know what I said about weird startup screen ? He probably got the same thing he said he sees white screen with pixels and dots . Still no clue what could be reason?

I have not had this particular problem so I don't know what could be the cause.
Flashing xbsall's v28B rooted ICS should recover the device as long as the phone can enter S/W mode. Yes, it has built in TWRP recovery, but it resides in system partition, not recovery partition. Any old TWRP backups you may have are probably not compatible with this method of custom recovery, so keep that in mind.
You will have a recovery loop when you try to factory reset your device using the soft reset like this
Settings>Backup & reset>factory data reset
Dont do this if you have custom recovery
To do a factory reset use cwm/twrp and choose wipe data/restore to factory setting

And to recover on this thing you have to reflash a stock firmware using kdz update or lg flashtool.
I cant provide you links. Im on mobile use. Try to search on forum. Im on mobile use

This is exactly what happened to me. I will try drastic's guide now, it uses stock ROM at one point if I'm not mistaken. I'll keep you posted what happens. Thank you!
It worked! My phone boots normally and everything is fine, yay :victory:
Thanks for all your help, now I just need to explore everything in this custom ROM
Is there a explanation or guide of all the apps in this ROM? I've installed XBSA v8, maybe I'll upgrade to vR3D soon, how much better is it?
Edit: On a second thought...
THIS ROM IS BASED ON CANADIAN ROGERS V30C AND IT HAS NATIVE SUPPORT FOR ENGLISH, FRENCH AND SOME ASIAN LANGUAGES.
IF YOUR LANGUAGE ISN'T ONE OF THEM YOU MIGHT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SMS NOT BEING DELIVERED CORRECTLY IF IT'S WRITTEN TO ANY OTHER LANGUAGE.

I think I'll stay with v8 then
Check xbsall's page for ROM details, linked at the top.
