PLEASE HELP Galaxy S2 problems - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Please help me get my phone back to the standard stock rom.
I'm in the UK and on 3 Network.
Last night i installed the ics 4.0.3 with XXKP8, this was the first time i have ever tried this and it worked first time, but i keep losing my icons on the screen and have to restart the phone. So i want to to return it back.
Ive checked the flash counter and its still at NO
Ive been on these forums and google reading and trying to fix this all day and ive got so far and now im stuck.
I think i need to install the XWKI4 kernal. I have downloaded it along with the other download that was linked to it but the file extensions or names seems to be of the wrong name.
When i was doing it last night the file extensions were MD5 & tar
but everything im downloading today is image file & vlc ???

[Q] Help needed to find a Pulse mini (8110) stock rom!

I have been downloading stock roms for this phone all morning and I have had no luck in getting them to install. It comes up with the same error saying the rom is not signed. I know I have tried one or 2 of these stock roms before and they worked fine.
Can someone please tell me where to get one from. I dont want custom roms as they never auto notify me for any emails and I have missed quite a few important ones now.
-Edit-
Scrap that, I was being a total noob and forgot stock roms have to be extracted first and then install via the dload folder.

[Q] Can't flash back to stock

I've downloaded the stock image directly from the Motodev site for my MZ604. It successfully flashes boot.img. When I try to flash system.img, it just hangs. I thought maybe I was rushing it before giving up but I left it going for a couple of hours this morning with no luck. I'm happy with cwm and running ics roms but this is puzzling me as to why I can't get back to stock. My stock recovery img got trashed last month so recovering back to stock isn't an option. Any suggestions?
More specifically, I get a successful send of system.img, the hang up happens while writing.
I know this may not help you but have u tried downloading the file another time and compare the md5 between the file.. If they are the same then i have no idea mine was able to write correctly.. If they are different download it a 3rd time and see which one is truly correct.?

Downloaded from another site and got the same results. I kept rebooting the xoom and repeatedly tried flashing and it finally went through. For some reason, I had to do the same thing for recovery and userdata. It's back to stock and working normally now.
ps now i'm about to root again and flash a nightly lol. I just couldn't understand why it did the same thing last month when i tried to revert to stock and gave up. I was determined to figure it out today.
Awesome to hear! Flash away lol

[q] bricked? Arhd bootloop

Hey guys, I been away from the sensation for a few months now and I think I bricked it on my first flash back! I was flashing ARHD & I followed the noob guide, I downloaded firmware & updated, deleted the firmware file, performed super wipe, flashed the rom, and I checked my md5 sums. Now I'm bootlooping the white HTC splash screen, and sometimes I see the beats audio symbol but right back to the slash screen! Ahhh.... I use this line for work. I used the 3.30 firmware as it said to & I'm on boot 1.27? I know one of you guys can help, so please ANYONE,I've got a get this fixed tonight.....
well if its booting then fortunately you're not bricked lol
have you tried re flashing the new firmware?
I flashed the 3.30 that the installation guide I was following told me to. I have ext 2.2, so is that an issue or is it the correct recovery.
Anyone who can walk me through this I'd really appreciate it guys. Just like most, I rely on my phone for work. I'm a little worried here, I've flashed quite a few times and I've never had an issue like this that I couldn't restore out of.....
Try this??
what I did was everything you did.. except I used this firmware update...
Firmware from 3.30.401.1 & 3.30.401.101 RUU
--- MD5 checksum: 824295C6ACDC8D55BED9E0B913192DBE *PG58IMG.zip ---
--- Only for 3.30.401.1 & 3.30.401.101 based ROMs
Then I installed the ICS Energy rom, and everything works great.. I've also flashed a few other roms without issues.. I haven't tried the arhd yet.. I'm currently running the virtuous AOSP rom.. and still, everything works great.. I hope this helps
Just a side note.. have you tried formatting the sdcard then trying that setup? I did have issues with my sdcard in the beginning, but after formatting, I've had no issues..Also make sure the ROM you're using is made for the correct firmware, otherwise you'll have bootloops! hope this helped!
That's the same firmware I used, and I've ran the firmware upgrade twice now. Now right after I updated the firmware the first time I did it, I rebooted on accident & it wouldn't boot even before I flashed arhd.... is this normal?
It wouldn't boot into hboot? What I did was put all the needed files on my sdcard, flashed the firmware, removed the sdcard(while the phone is powered on).. booted into the rom, then put the scdard back in and removed the firmware update..then rebooted the phone, then wiped and loaded an ICS rom..that was really about all I did.. and so far all works well.. I'm really at a loss as to what the problem on your end is.. it sounds like you've done everything you're suppose to do..
You could try to run the relevant ruu (assume you have s-off?) and start again?

Update::II flashed Virtuous and had no issues and everything is running perfect. Looks just like my transformer prime now. I doing know why at this point that my system would not play nice with ARHD, I followed the guide to the letter and I flashed the firmware 3.30 several timed just as directed. None the less, I am satisfied with this from, and my device is much smoother and more productive than the ****ty GS2 by T-Mobile that I had been using the last few months! I just can't retire my Sensation. Thank you to all who chimed in, you're a great community!
Bricked
That happened to me too when I tried to install ICS without updating the firmware
first.
I just re-booted to recovery and did a restore. I'm assuming you backed up your
ROM right?
Then at least your phone will go back to normal and you can start over...and use it for work haha
I'm good now on virtuous, but I just couldn't get ARHD to work for me. Yes I had upgraded to the proper firmware first, and I always compare md5 sums. I'm by no means an expert, but I always research, read and ask all the nessecary questions before I flash anything I'm not familiar with. I think there may just be rare occasions when some of the devices just won't play nice with certain software. Virtuous took on the first flash & I'm actually very pleased with it, so all's well that ends well. ICS is just so much more intuitive & functional for me

[Q] i9000 will not root, only stock firmware boots

Hi there. I have read quite a few tutorials on rooting my phone. I did have it rooted at one point using odin and a package for cwm. It worked great. I wanted to try out one of the 4.* ICS roms, that worked fine.. sorted that out no problem but there was no gps so I wanted to go back to my rooted 2.3.6.
Went to put it back to standard with stock firmware, that also worked fine. The problem I have now is when I attempt to root using the same files, same settings and same utilities as before, It boots up to the samsung galaxy logo, then reboots and shows the logo again and again in an infinite loop.
I have cleared the user data and cache, and the root appears to work as the recovery program installs correctly, but it will not boot the OS.
When i flashed to stock I used odin.. the 512 pit file, the stock pda, phone and csc files. and that works perfectly but not when I root it!
Any ideas??
****UPDATE
I flashed with stock 2.3.5 firmware so that I could use samsung kies to flash my phone back to 2.3.6 so that it was 100% stock and kies now says that my device does not support firmware upgrades!!!
Seems as nobody can be arsed to answer my question I have researched and answered it myself...
If anybody has the same problem of Kies saying "Your device does not support firmware upgrades" all you have to do is go into the "About phone" section of the settings.. find the baseband version of your phone.. Mine was I9000XXJVT... find the lowest version of android on samfirmwares.com , mine was 2.3.4, install it..
then kies recognizes your phone again and will upgrade it to the latest version..
Oh by the way THANKS FOR YOUR HELP lol
This particular phone for record purposes upgraded to:
PDA:JW4 / PHONE:JW4 / CSC:JW5 (CPW) which im guessing is carphone warehouse..
I tried the samfirmware.com version of the latest CPW firmware they have and kies still said it would not update the firmware
and before all you geeks get on your high horse and say why didnt u do this and why didnt you do that..
I couldn't root my firmware after installing the CPW firmware as mentioned above from samfirmwares.com.. i was in an infinite reboot loop. I could load standard firmware from samfirmwares.com and it would boot fine, but I couldn't root it from that.
My aim was to get it back to standard and go from there.
One question.. pretty obvious really... I have searched high and low and still am yet unable to find a sofrware for BACKING UP my original firmware... this would be a pretty sensible idea??? yes???

[Q] I can't load CWM on my SGS 4G (T-Mobile)

Hello all,
Okay, I admit that I am gonna get a lot of "use the search tool first" replies, but please hear me out. I have done my fair share of searching. Its not that I haven't found anything, its just the things I found are useless for this SGS 4G. I really wanted to install Cyanogen Mo on the SGS (its not actually mine, a friend asked me to do it since he saw my old SGS GT-I9000 running CM).
I am gonna try and give a detailed report . The phone was originally from T-Mobile and now unlocked permanently. Its running firmware version 2.3.3 that I installed just recently. I found out that I can't install CWM on the stock kernel or bootloader or whatever and I needed a new of the thing. So I went on searching and searching....found a handful of help but none work. Every method breaks at some point and I go to the "firmware update failed" thing on the phone, which I then install 2.3.3 again using ODIN and try another method. I have tried a lot of things. Hemidall, ODIN, SuperOneClick, and a lot of gibbrish-sounding methods. None work. I am now running 2.3.3. Here are some infos:
ABOUT PHONE:
Model Number: SGH-T959V
Firmware Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: T959VUVKF1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKF1-CL270364
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.VUVKF1
The files I used to flash to 2.3.3 using ODIN v1.85:
PIT: Hawk_Sidekick_VibrantPlus_831.pit
PDA: CODE_T959VUVKF1_CL270364_REV00_user_low_noship.tar.md5
PHONE: T959VUVKF1-Phone-CL1020302.tar.md5
CSC: SGH-T959V-CSC-TMB-VIBRANTP.tar.md5
I hope the above infos are enough. So, can anyone help me and point me to the right direction on how to install CWM and then install CM10 or 9 on my friends SGS 4G?
Thanks,
Tamrat
Hmmm, an interesting set of binaries, ones that don't ring a bell with me. I'm used to seeing T959VUVKJ6.
Where did you find those? Half curiosity, half trying to understand the problem, half since much of the "old" images for the phones got lost when Multiupload and what have you were shut down.
For the SGS4G, the kernel, root file system, and recovery file system are all in "boot.img" -- flash one, you flash them all. They can be flashed through Odin (assuming you really like Windows), heimdall (multi-platform), through recovery, or from a root command line (for the adventurous only).
I would say the most robust way to get where you need to be would be to use Lumin's guide to make sure you've got a viable Gingerbread set-up going, then flash something reliable to get you to MTD, like TeamAcid's CM9.
From there, you should know that some of the KK ROMs use slightly different MTD partitioning and aren't a "just flash this ROM and keep your data" kind of thing.

Click to collapse
A long day Googling... and then a site turned up. One thing I forgot to mention was, before I installed this firmware, I had to use the "remove battery->plug usb->press the button combos->insert the battery" to enter download mode, but now I juts have to press vol down and power button.
Thanks for the reply,
Failure again
UPDATE:::
I tried to update to 2.3.6 as the guide suggests and I also wanted a clean stock OS in case the old one was not. But once again updating to 2.3.6 has been a pain. Kies Mini recognizes the phone but it doesn't recognize the firmware running on the phone. And also, firmware update is impossible since the button is greyed out.
I googled again and found the official 2.3.6 firmware for the phone (file name: T959VUVKJ6-REV00-home-low-CL694130.tar.md5) and tried flashing it using ODIN; absolutely no luck. It fails at the stage which says Slb.bin. Restarting the phone after that gives a "firmware upgrade failure" display. Only way to wake up the phone is to flash the previous OS back.
I am really confused here.
*********************EDIT***************
Some how, after like 10 retires and fiddling with ODIN, it finally flashed 2.3.6 to the SGS 4G. Still, fingers crossed.
*********************EDIT 2***************
Finally, its all working fine now. Thank you @jeffsf, thank you very much.

forgot an important step and now my IEMI number is gone........
do i throw the phone now, or is there any other way???
Don't throw your phone away! How do you know that you have "no IMEI" on your phone? We'll go from there.
Hopefully, you've backed up your data before starting to play around with ROMS. If so just load your backed up efs folder onto your storage & use Root Explorer to drop it over your existing one , it will overwrite your imei file & you will be good as new.

I'm also in need of help, I have been running SlimSaber since last weekend, was wanting to try out Beanstalk. First full wipe, install & reboot wipe again, reinstall etc as per Dao's OP, but after the first install, it won't boot past the kernel splash. Tried again with same result. Decided to click it back to stock & start over, using Gremlin Remover (odin). Then saw that others were having similar issue so I tried to load in build from April1st.
But now it only boots back into recovery, won't boot to the OS ( everything indicated install was complete & no errors.)
1 clicked back again & just tried to put SlimSaber back on again, but have the same problem, will only boot into recovery.
I had to first load CM9 to get CWM 6.xx so I could install kk using TWRP
What am I not doing correctly? Thanks for any suggestions.
Flash kernel
Reboot recovery
Wipe all partitions
(Reboot recovery for good measure and wipe again if paranoid)
Install
Boot
If that doesn't do it, it is likely ROM or hardware.

Posted from whatever phone booted today
Since this is running GB VUVKG4, could you recommend a kernel that would work & get me to TWRP (or CWM 5.xx+)?
Either the Team Acid CM9 or Hefe Kernel should work.
