[Q] Backup for Unrooted? - Verizon Droid Charge

I apologize if this is answered someone, but I couldnt find it. I just switched over to Samsung Charge and to Android for that matter (windows mobile) so im back to being a damn noob! anyway, I know a lot of ppl use titanium backup, but that seems to only work if you are rooted. I've been running stock for a while now, getting used to android. I want to root and start using custom roms, but I know doing so will cuz me to lose all my data. Contacts r no big deal cuz they r backed up on gmail, but all the apps ive downloaded, texts, pics, music, etc. I dont want to lose all that stuff if I don't have to. I knew a bunch of ways to backup on my TP2 but no clue what to use on an android. Any suggestions? Again I apologize if this has been asked and answered 100 times.

You don't necessarily have to lose everything when you root. You will if you flash a custom rom, but you can root on the stock rom without wiping. If you want to flash a custom rom, you can still root this way, back everything up with TiBu, and then flash the rom. If you go to the site below (managed by trparky), you can follow the "Rooting (No Custom Kernel)" instructions and you will only get root...no custom kernel and no rom. You will also lose nothing.

[Q] Planning to root and put a custom rom on a friends phone

Hi there, my friend is coming round soon and I was planning to give it a custom rom
Now, I've done this type of stuff before (on my nexus) I just want to see how you would do it for this samsung phone
Now, what recoveries can you get? I use 4EXT on mine
And, can anybody send me to a stable and up-to-date rom that can be used everyday and has nearly no issues? I need one without all the samsung stuff, just a normal default android one
And, how would I go by rooting the phone?
On mine, I used the zergrush exploit, does it work for this phone??
If you want one with everything working, then use the Froyo roms. CM7 is under development. The major bugs are bluetooth and youtube hq. Leaving that, even thats useable. It's even better than Froyo.
I suggest you to try either Kyorarom or Kyrillos v9.6. Both of them are froyo based, pre-rooted, and have other mods to make it even more faster than a stock one.
Happy flashing!

Thanks, and how do I go about flashing the rom, would I have to root it first?
No need.
This is something to good to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414
BTW to root the phone use super one click root (or sth like that )
Ah, I get it now, thanks
Just one more question, does ODIN delete the phones data before installing the rom?
You have to wipe all your data after flashing(or not if from Froyo to Froyo)
I mean from recovery. ODIN don't delete user data
I exactly I don't know the working of odin, but after flashing you are directly taken to the recovery and advised to wipe data and factory reset.

Get Branded One S Unbranded

hey guys, i just got my htc one s from ebay.
and it seems like its branded by t-mobile. so i have some useless apps which i dont want to have. even the browser is branded
now i'm asking myself, if i should flash a ROM from an unbranded htc one s and to get mine so unbranded too. (but i have no idea where i can find an unbranded one s ROM)
or is this a bad idea at all and gives me some hidden disadvantages?
i know i can just remove some system apps but e.g. the browser i dont really want to remove and i cant get the brand out of him.
i hope you know what i mean and can help.
PS.: sorry for my not perfect english
if you want to keep your current stock ROM, get root and use titanium backup to remove all the bloatware..
If you want to flash a custom ROM, choose something just like stock, For example Zero One S ROM (nice stock ROM but themed) Or virtuous ROM (with sense) Or even Modaco (hasnt been updated in a while)
There are others too. Including Senseless ROMs..
Make a nandroid before you do anything.. if something goes wrong, restore it
but i cant remove the branding in the browser with uninstalling system apps. this would remove the whole browser.
and custom rom i dont want either to be honest. the past with my lg optimus one showed me that in custom roms alsways something isnt working right.
do you have a link for me where i can download the original one s firmware without branding stuff? this would be the best i think.
download an unbranded RUU, use the methods to extract the rom.zip modify it to suit your device and flash that..
Or just remove all the branded stuff of your phone and re install the stock unbranded apps.. For example, delete the browser (dont know how this is branded but) and get the browser apk from another ROM and install it on yours
be quicker and simpler to do that
thx for your help but i just found a clean untouched ROM.
now if i root my phone with this method (i just also found) i can install clockworkmod and then backup my temporary system and flash the clean rom, right?
You sure can
okay, it failed
I dont get root acces with this method. and with the install-superboot-windows.bat either
i only have CWM now, but no root...
and flashing the stock rom (which already is rooted) failed. it just doesnt start.
I dont use superboot. did you flash the root zip file ??
just flash a custom ROM there are several out there that are identical to stock..
ok, i made a mistake. i wanted to flash the ROM buts its a nadroid and i have to restore it. now with restoring it woked fine.
so everything is fine now, rooted phone + no branding.
thx anyways

[Q] Backup apps on stock GB

Hi to all !
I wonder is there any chance to backup my apps from stock GB 2.3.5 rom without rooting the phone?
I've been searching around a little bit about it but i haven't found any similar procedure/guide that describes backing up apps
from stock, unrooted phone.
Maybe it sounds a bit noobish but i can't believe that there isn't any possibility to back up without rooting.
For me it's matter of principle..i don't wanna root, don't wanna custom recovery, custom rom, etc..i just want to back up 1 special app
and that's all..
Maybe someone could show me the path :\

Verizon S3 CMOD 10 Issues

Hey guys, new to the Android world, went from my i5 to the s3, and love it with the custom rom I installed.
I rooted using Ninjas method, and then downloaded the apk unlock it from the play store to open the boot loader. I installed Cyanogen 10 on my device, and it seems to be working great other than the fact I am intermittently losing data connection, randomly might I add. This is a difficult thing as my device provides the only internet I have at my home as I live in a very rural area, however have great phone signal. Is this something that I screwed up when installing? I did not backup my stock rom, however have since learned the importance of doing so and backed up the current custom rom on Rom Manager. I also backed up all the files on the device, and memory card on my desktop for future use, as I am getting tired of reinstalling the apps and finding them over and over. Aside from the long bs, my question is, how do I get my steady signal I once had on stock rom back on my custom rom, and if I want, how do I restore back to my stock rom? Thanks!

So i dont have an answer for you. I am trying to do the same thing you just mentioned. If you dont mind, when you loaded CM10 did you have any issues with CM10 loading up? I am stuck on the boot screen the CM10 log just spins and spins. i let it run for an hour one time. I was able to boot back into the stock ROM but i have not been able to load CM10 successfully.
Thanks.

Are you saying that you now have a ****ty data signal and GPS after using odin? or are you just referring to how it was before?
if you dont mind me asking, could you post a link to the thread you followed on restoring from odin?

Rooting STAR N9589

It's coming from China so I imagine there will be a few annoying icons but nothing major.
I want to root the phone.
Then install a CFWM & Backup Original Stock Rom
I don't plan on using anything other than the orginal stock rom however one day if I fancy a play and mess it up I can roll back.
The main thing I carer about is the root feature.
Anyone suggest any tutorials I cant find any specific for this phone just copys of roms from need rom, I need to know how to root and instal CFWM first!
Also can I chose what rom to boot when powering on, almost like running it dualm boot, one for work and one for play?
Thanks
