ICS High Res Contact Photos Fix

I figured out how to get high res contact photos.
First you need ICS
Have a google plus account and google plus on your phone
Create a folder on your computer called contact photos
Load all your contact pictures into this folder
Put this entire folder onto google+ picasa web albums
Have google+ picasa web albums synced to your phone with the google+ app
You should see in gallery an album called contact photos
Manually link all of your contacts to these photos
Now all of your contacts have high res photos! Its kind of time consuming but its finally a work around the stupid google blurry pictures. I have spent countless time googling a work around. I hope this helps everyone out!

They are working on it as we speak. Thanks for the feedback and suggestion, but personally I think I'll wait until I can manager higher resolution photos directly from GMail Contacts. Saves any future hassles

It's not exactly a fix... but I've gotten many of my contact pictures in high res through Facebook and HaxSync. As long as you have them as a Facebook friend, you can at least see their face clearly with this

The only problem is, if you have to blast your contacts storage or switch phones for any reason, the pictures that get synced back down from Google are the low res versions, then you have to manually re-do the photos all over again. It's disappointing that Google has taken so long to fix what seems like a relatively simple issue.
The other suggestion from Google was to sync your G+ contacts to your phone, but most of the people I contact via text or phone aren't actually on G+, and most of the people I have as contacts in G+ I don't communicate with outside of professional social networks.

Manually choosing pictures for each contact is not a fix!

I have put together a tiny app that syncs the photos on the phone to picasa web thus preserving its quality. Of course you need to have choosen a high resolution photo on your phone.
This being probably my first post, I can't include a link so have a search of it on Google Play and if you found it useful, post the link yourself.
Search for "Contact Photo Sync" on Google Play (remember to include the double quote marks in your search).
I've also released the code under GPLv3. To get the code, search "contactphotosync" in github.
Hope this helps some of you

THAT APP did a good job for ICS AOSP user,
which google failed to provide.. :good:
i personaly dont like another app solution,
which syncing it with FB photo.. even though it's HD.
FB photo profile sync just sucks big time..
i simply don't want my friends picture on my contact phone is just like:
Cat, Guitar, Car or natural scenery,
or maybe his / her picture but way too far from camera..
which s/he set as profile picture on FB.
that app really good, suits my need, which i can't found for months..

because all of friends put a real profile picture of them on their profile.

facebook contact picture sync is great but it's weird to get cat, guitar and etc at my friends contact profile.

[APP][2.1+]SyncMyPix - ICS-JB and Facebook Fix-(Better High Res Pic Update)

Hi,
I don't like to give my info to third party libraries or apps,so i've managed to fix SyncMyPix for ICS. Also fixed facebook functions. I'm uploading apk and source here.
I also added fql to fetch fullsize facebook photos.
To use it,
1)You have to create an application on your facebook account from developers.facebook.com.
There is an video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDeaKrWR7WA&feature=relmfu -> thanks to google
2)After creation enter your facebook "application id" to "Application Id field on preferences of application".
https://developers.facebook.com/attachment/android_devapp_basic.png <- in this picture the APP_ID part is your application id.
(dont click on green square)

Add this key as android key
Code:
it's not needed anymore, use it as web app
3)Enable high res photos, and disable crop from preferences.
4)When you touch sync facebook login form will appear, (it's facebook's own login dialog) and login to your facebook account from application.
5)If you didn't add your application to your facebook account it will ask you to authorize it.
6)It will automatically fetch contact photos. (If it doesnt start click sync again, it will not ask your facebook details again)
I could have given my application id to you but there would be no point to use this application if i had done it. There are lots of applications on market.
Also if you understand compiling from source you can set application id from string.xml -> "facebook_api_key"

*Highly increased image resolution.
*Because of change in facebook fetch type, it will be a little bit slower than other releases while syncing

There is a way to implement high res photos with real size. But rooting required and i don't have time to research it .

Is this the same as using HaxSync or Facebook Profile Sync?
They both do 256x256 images I think, if not higher.

I don't know how they work, but i added the functions that has to be used to add contact photo without hacking. Last version's quality is good. Try it yourself

yes you can, the smart name matching sort of linked the wrong people for me but i guess its fixable

Yes, you can chose it from results view, long press the facebook username and click link to contact.
This program not intended to work with gingerbread, also i'm not sure it will work on 4.1.
You can use the attached apk, video is for creating facebook application. You will use that application id to fetch photos from facebook.
The application fetches the best sized photo on facebook profile, it will use highest resolution.

[Q] Apps for Jelly Bean

Hello All
This is my first post in XDA. I am new to Android and to Nexus 4. I want your advise in choosing some apps, as I have found some drawbacks in the native apps:
1. No speed limits in GMaps - Ulysse Speedometer is a good app to overlay your speed over Maps but speed limit is not visible.
2. No composer filtering in GMusic - I am used to this feature and have my music setup for my old iPod
3. No way to remove Picasa albums from Gallery - I think the only option is to delete all my albums and create a local copy.
4. No way to review photo immediately after capture - This is important; sometimes if for some reason, the photo does not come out well and if I can re-capture the moment, I have to go into Gallery to review it.
5. No drafts syncing of my corporate email account - Important feature for me.
6. No Facebook contact sync - I found some apps to sync photos, Bdays - but not anything close to LinkedIn type of syncing for Facebook in the Contacts app.
If you recommend any apps to overcome any of these drawbacks, that would be helpful. Thanks!

4. If you're rooted, search for Android 4.2 Camera here on XDA...swipe to quickly review the photo and then swipe back to return to the camera
5. Sorry...I only use gmail
6. Haxsync - paid, but the best

The application allows to view and download photos from Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr and VKontakte.
Features:
- Does not require authorization. (You can use it even if you are not registered on these sites)
- Search for photos by name.
- Easy viewing of albums.

- Added the ability to download the preview of the entire album at once for VK (For large albums in several thousand photos).
- Fixes on some devices that caused the application to restart when opening the photo in single view mode.
