What am I doing wrong - HTC Sensation

Ok I am trying to install rcmix ice Rom I get as far as the htc boot screen even after 10 mins I don't get any further I have a backup that I can fall back on
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Try pulling the battery and putting it back in, if it doesn't boot up then, go to recovery, wipe data/factory reset, then wipe system for good measure. Install the rom and reboot. Should function after that. Some users reported first boot taking 20 to 30 minutes. I've installed ICS 4 times, each time was 3 to 5 minutes for me (all different roms).

Did a battery pull and did wipe of data and all that pet it go for a good hour and still nothing restored to backup for now

Did you flash the firmware update that is required for it?

Hmm it won't let me it says no image found
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Tried merely powering on and off the phone after say 4-5 mins after flashing? sounds silly I know.
My suggestion would be to restore stock ROM, reinstall recovery and root then try again. Make sure to clear everything, 4EXT is nice for that as requires only one time selection. Also I suggest backup memory card then reformat it, copy back only user files not Android previous file systems etc.
Good luck

Is the firmware update going through hboot or clockworkmod

I know I'm still new but...
Did you do a data wipe? What rom were you using earlier? Did you have a nandroid backup? And what roms are you trying to switch to (I know that the newest Android Revolution had a problem with its files, patched now though)?
Ok this is what happened so far. I went back to the original new update stock. I used the hack kit and did the root. I installed RCMix and it was working and I made a backup. I tried to install ultimate Droid and phoenix evolution and it will take me to clockwork and delete the old files and install the new ones . It will reboot but stay on the HTC white screen.

Boot into recovery via rom manager or press volume down+power and hold, and reboot to recovery via hboot. Now go to mounts and formats I believe and format data, catche, system and then go back and flash your rom. I had same issue till I formatted my system. You don't lose root or SD data. Give it a try and let me know how it goes

Thanks Matt that worked . Idk why it did that though

Well there's data files and configurations that are leftover from the previous rom,and when its still there the newer files mix with the older ones (that aren't the same) and causes bootloops 95% of the time. So just by doing a data wipe,it still doesn't clean it throughly. Glad I can help.

Data wipes
So a data wipe doesn't remove all the old info/files? I'm currently getting a "System UID's conflict". Should I format the data/cache/system and reflash to resolve or just try a data wipe again?
Well usually it does by I've had issues after a wipe. Factory reset and clearing dalvik and catche sometimes doesn't do it for me. So u can formal system, catche, data and then reflash the rom. BUT before even attemping to flash the rom, make sure the md5 matches up so u didn't end up with a bad download. If the md5 matches with what the op provides,or search the market for the program (afv something) and check it. Then if its matching, then format the partitions, then flash.

sometimes if you are dl-ing the rom from your phones browser it doesn't dl it completly either. had that happen twice.
I hear there is a bug in Rom manager and it doesn't properly wipe data and cache. Easy way past the problem is to wipe it manually in recovery.

[Q] Can anyone help me with this COREDROID download please?

I have been trying to download this coredroid @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858418 but don't know where to download it exactly. It took me to the coredroid home site when I pressed download, n I downloaded v1.4, but when I flash it via cwm recovery and reboot it to install it from my sd card I get an error message. I forgot what the error message said. I have downloaded other roms I had to flash, n they worked great! Only having problems with this one... Can someone please give me the direct link to download this? Because I really like it and want to use it on my phone. By the way I have a rooted HTC INSPIRE 4G. Thanks!
You downloaded the one for a different phone. Here they are.

Ok. Did you wipe your phone first or just flashed the ROM? Just asking because I'm running RCMix 3d right now. Should I do a wipe first or just flash n should i update my ROM manager before I flash coredroid 8?........ Well, nevermind about the questions because it just want work on my phone. The home screen won't even show it says loading and then the screen blanks out and loading pops right back up. I can get into the stuff that's on the lock screen by pulling it to the ring, and I can get to my setting by pulling down the notification bar. I can't access any of the home screens because loading keeps popping up. Why is that? I tried the one you posted above also, still the same as the other ones I have tried. :/ I really like this rom though, maybe it'll be fixed and working properly soon. Oh yeah I did a hard reset on my phone by holding down the down button and power button and tried to flash it afterwards, but still the same thing.
I am New to this game as well, but try and do a clean install wipe all the settings and things like that from the recovery menu then install zip from sd card and see if that works.
I have wiped it from the rom manager, but the home screen still stayed on loading and I can never get to the home screen because of loading blanks out n appear again.

As I'm having the same issue after loading the HTC Desire HD v8.0 update please share what you did to fix this issue.
After I put CoreDroid on my SD card I went to rom manager and went to install zip from SD card, then go down to whatever ROM you're putting on your phone click on it... if your coming from another ROM clear Dalvik cache and wipe data cache, but if your not coming from another ROM just check wipe data and cache. Then press ok then it should flash and reboot on it's own. Let me know if this works for you.

If you're going from one ROM to another, you should always do a full wipe of everything or you'll run into trouble eventually. Installing a minor revision update of the same ROM usually doesn't require wiping anything unless the developer says otherwise.
I was just telling him how I did mines, n I didn't come from a different ROM that's y I didn't clear Dalvik cache I only wiped data n cache. By the way a developer did tell me to wipe my data if coming from a different ROM to start fresh... So now with that being said, @ henry, should I clear Dalvik cache and wipe data and cache every time I switch to a different ROM from ROM manager???
Sent from my Inspire4G using XDA App
I am running a previous Coredroid release, so I would think that all I'm doing is an update, did you do the cache and dalvik clear after the update or before?
Before, then I deleted it and put a different ROM on here, after I took that ROM off I downloaded CoreDroid again and put it back on here. So yes, I cleared Dalvik cache and wipe data.
Sent from my Inspire4G using XDA App
Not saying wipe your data though since you're still using CoreDroid.

ended up having to do a data wipe after all, couldn't get out of the reload loop otherwise. /sigh
Oh sorry, glad you have it working.

[Q] HTC Inspire issue with rebooting itself and Mic issue

Hi Every one,
I'm new here, I have a HTC Inspire 4G which I have root it and now I installed Cyanogenmod 2.3.4, but I have couple of issues with this Rom, I'm wondering if any one else having the same issue or not.
1. some times it shut down itself without any notice and when I turn it back on, while is in process of mounting the SD card, it shut down itself again and some times I have to do this 3-4 times to turn it back on.
2. people are telling me that they can't hear me and it seems that my Mic is shuting down.
3. while I'm in good coverage area suddenly it looses all the signal and I have call drop.
I don't think that I can send it to HTC as is rooted and warranty is voided.
any help is appreciated.
A few questions for you:
1. What root process did you use?
2. What cyanogen are you using? The rc1 or a nightly?
3. Did you wipe before you flashed cm?
4. Did you install a custom kernel?
5. Did you flash anything in conjuction with the rom?
My suggestion would be to redownload the rom and check the md5 checksum to be sure it was a good download. Then back up your Apps with titanium backup. Do a nandroid, then a complete wipe
And reflash the rom. After the phone is fully rebooted, reboot again and see if problems are still there. Don't flash anything but the rom until you have rebooted twice.
Im using RC1, download it from clockworkmod

Try booting into recovery. Wipe and then flash fro? There instead of going through rom manager.

A CWM issue I've never experianced before?

I've been using clockwork mod recovery for ages now, on a few different HTC phones.
But now on my sensation running the latest CWM, whenever I go to clear my cache or data or anything related to a fresh install the process begins then the screen goes black (seems to be off completely) but the menu, back, search and home buttons still set off the vibration? The phone is completely unresponsive in every other manner, no way to get the screen back on without pulling the battery.
Anyone else had these issues? I've also had it when trying to flash a rom (very disheartening indeed to see "starting update" then a dead screen!)
Anyone clever enough to know what's causing it?

Try 4EXT I find it works better than CWM
Funnily enough I did, the touch capabilities seem brilliant, in fact its the recovery I'm on now. BUT............. I've just tried to update hypersensation to version 1.8 and it failed to install it! Began the process an then just rebooted recovery again?
It may be the phone I think? Not the recovery?
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
Bit of a noob moment here........ but will the fact that I recently updated my firmware to 3.12 be causing these issues?
Even though it gives you a locked bootloader you still remain s-off, so should still be able to flash to your hearts content right?
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
The new firmware shouldn't be causing you these issues. Try reflashing CWM and see what happens.
Thanks for the advice, I've literally just tried a fresh install of both 4ext recovery and CWM. Same thing keeps happening. Grrrrr!
So next logical step is a fresh download of hypersensation v1.8.
After that? Who knows?
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
Ok so a fresh download of hypersensation did it.
But still random recovery reboots when clearing data/system for a fresh install?
Never mind, 4ext does it.
Shut her down.

[Q] Updating my rom

Hi as its my first post i cannot post in the specific development thread to this particular ROM.
I haven't updated my ROM in sometime. Currently my phone says i have:
Android Version - 4.0.3
HTC Sense version - 3.6
Software Number - Android Revolution HD 6.6.2 by mike1986
The newest rom version is 6.8.* and i was wondering the process to update from that version to this newer one. Or how to move to a different custom rom.
If you need more information then please ask. Im new here and just learning the ropes. Thanks in advance.
Josh.
Hi if your s off here is how you do it. Place rom on SD card by first downloading from computer than connecting with USB cable to phone to computer than share the rom, usually to disk drive e. This places it on SD card root. Then go into recovery and wipe cash then wipe dalvik then wipe data factory reset. Then choose install zip from SD card, then choose zip from SD card. Then scroll down and find your rom. Install the rom than reboot your phone. That's it. But before you flash anything do a nandroid backup of your current rom incase you get into a pinch you can restore your old rom easily. Now if your s on it's different. You will have to flash boot image I'm so off and not exactly familiar with every step for that but there is a great guide flashing roms with s on you can read if need be. But if your so off those are all the steps you need. Hope I've helped and happy flashing.

If he is going to update the ROM, you don't need to wipe anything often. You need to look to the forum and their they will say in the 1st or 2nd post how to install the ROM and if you are going to update the ROM it will often say you don't need to wipe anything. But if you want to be sure just read that post.
It's always a good idea to wipe as to prevent any Wi-Fi or other issues. I updated my rom and didn't do a full wipe and I had Wi-Fi issues, I went back reinstalled with full wipe now Wi-Fi works perfectly. In my opinion it's good to wipe.

It's really not ncessessary for small incrimental updates, which most nightly builds are.
However, this guy is going from ARHD 6.6 to 6.8. The ARHD page says you don't need to do a full wipe if coming from 6.7...which kind of implies that you do need a full wipe if coming from an earlier build.
So a full wipe would probably be recomended.
As for normal updating opperations...
Sure, things CAN get screwy when flashing over a previous build, but they usually do not. And if you are going to be updating regularly then it's really a gigantic waste of time to do a full wipe every 2-3 days since you'll spend an hour or 2 resetting everything up. Over a month that might be 18-24 hours just redoing settings, in hopes of avoiding a random error that might happen once every 2 months of flashing. It's kind of like driving 20 miles to save a penny on a gallon of gas. You spend more to get there than you save.
Always recomended to do a full nandroid backup first through. So if it doesn't work you can revert back to what you had quickly and save the full wipe and fresh install for a time when you've got more time to redo everything.
6.6 and 6.8 use different firmware bases...
Not wiping when he updets now only means he'll get trusted, and wipe later

really grateful for all of the responses. I think to be safe and just for the sake of a few hours ill do a full back up and wipe before installing.
