Are bootanimation.zip files os specific? I just found a few files on my old laptop that I used to throw in when I was running froyo. Can I use these in a gingerbread rom?

They'll work fine if you're using a kernel that supports them like bhudven's kernels.

Make sure the case & permissions are correct. It should be PowerOn.wav, the permissions should be -rw-r--r-- with root as the owner and group.

Custom Bootanimation
I am running The SlimSaber 4.4.2 Rom. I am trying to build my own custom bootanimation that will advertise my business when I boot the phone. I have found alot of great forums on here thatexplain how to build and install your custom animation. Everytime I try it I either get a blank bootscreen, or install failed. I there some thing different, or unique I need to do for the SGS4G?
I don't think there is anything special you need to do. You can look at what is there on the ROM itself -- /system/media/bootanimation.zip -- and compare it to what you have.

I have taken those and built mine axactly like it, desc file, type of photoe format (png, jpg,etc etc) R zipped and get the failure. The only difference is the file size. Is there a specific file size to stay within?

If everything is the same as the existing bootanimation.zip, then it may be the way you are zipping it. Just a shot in the dark, but when zipping it and choosing the format/compression level, make sure to select "Store." This is what did it for me when mine wasn't working.

Unless you want to post it here, then the only other thing I'd suggest is making sure you set permissions to rw-r-r and then restart. You've probably thought of that.

# chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip

There might be something with SELinux as well, but I'd start with the above. Any clues in the output of dmesg at all? This would be before logcat would show anything.
If you're willing to attach the files here, I'll take a look at it. Also, I'll need the settings you wish to use.

Upon looking at the files, within the zip, I did notice one thing wrong. You had the folder bootanimation within the zip itself. That's what is causing you issues. Easy fix which I will do for you. Another thing I noticed is the image sizes. You're using 96 x 160. Normally with the SGS4G, the image size is 480 x 800 or you can use something larger. If you want, just send me the the original image you have in the center (the computer image) and what text you want on the top and bottom and I can re-do the images for you. Or, if you want, I can try and find something for you and you can provide me with the text you want and go from there. Either way, I'm here to help you out.
I will send you the originals when I get home. I have them at all sizes just trying to get a workable model to go from. Then I can tweek it with more animation.

No problem. Here's a little sample I have for you to show what I can do for you. Its a cleaner look IMO. If I could read what the bottom text says, I would have added that too. Let me know what you think though. Also, the image will appear smaller once it shows on your phone's screen which will also make it look cleaner than looking at it from a PC Monitor.

This should work for all HTC phones with HTClinkifyDispatcher.apk (so basically all HTC phones on ICS and a few on GB with most sense-based ROMs) if opening a YouTube link in the browser doesn't give you the option to open it in the native YouTube app, you have HTCLinkifyDispatcher on your phone. This also applies to Play Store links, Maps addresses, and possibly Contact data and phone numbers.
You're going to have to be rooted to do this.
Some custom ROM's already have this removed.
1. First use root explorer or another root browser app to find and delete HTClinkifydispatcher.apk. This can be found in /system/app
2. Download and install a build.prop editor (such as THIS app) from the Play Store. Alternatively, you can just use a root-enabled file browser to edit it in /system
3. Find the line that says "ro.da1.enable". Click on it and change from "true" to "false"
4. Reboot to recovery and clear your cache and wipe dalvik
5. Reboot system and enjoy!
Make sure to delete the .apk or it might not work! (Thanks, 865DETH!)
This guide is based on the findings of iconeo and steal25, so credits to them
Original thread can be found here (the line it says to add to the build.prop underneath the one we edit shouldn't be necessary)
This article was featured on the front page of the XDA portal, and was written by me and posted in the Rezound forum. I am now posting it in the General forum for greater visibility, and therefore helping more people.
If you encounter any problems, let me know. If it works for you, please hit thanks for me.

I want to say that I did not create this file. I just helped facilitate a speedy delivery of this file because I reached out to a dev friend so he could help us.
This single .apk file is intended for folks that are stock/rooted and want to get by with as many tweaks as possible without flashing a ROM or Theme. I know their are plenty of peeps out there that are just fine with being rooted only... hopefully this will add to your enjoyment of a nearly bone stock rom.
**Before you do anything make a backup of your framework-res.apk file which is located in system/framework**
**If you are on a themed rom, using this framework-res.apk will remove most of your theme and place you back to stock look**
**Rom devs and themers will need to take this framework-res.apk and add it to their themes and roms** (or decompile and create their own)
Credits:
Nitroglycerin33 for compiling and editing framework-res.apk
Electron73 for delivering the knowledge to our forum
Confirmed working on Stock OTA VRLG1
How to install:
Option A:
-Download the framework-res.apk to your C:\ drive or whatever folder you like on your PC.
-Mount your system folder on your phone as read/write
-Then push it via adb to your phone. Reboot. Profit
Option B:
If you don't feel comfortable using adb commands you can use root explorer and copy the framework-res.apk over to system\framework\ which will overwrite the existing framework file. This will cause your phone to freeze up immediately. Give it 2 minutes then simultaneously press the volume up + volume down + the power button until it goes into safemode. Once in safemode your phone will start responding. You can then reboot at this point which will automatically boot you out of safe mode. If you can't seem to get it into safe mode just yank the battery. I tested it this way to see if it works and it does. No harm done to the phone. I would make a back up of your framework-res.apk before doing this.

for the record I am using your stock rom and loving it. Feel free to use this apk if you need to. Not sure what would be easier, applying your themes to this apk or taking your existing themed apk and editing decompiled xml's. My guess is the latter if you know how to decompile and you can use notepad++. What apk tool do you use? Can you link me?

If I can even find the link to the apks tool I am using again I sure will. It has two apktool.jar files. One is 1.4.2 for decompiling and one is 1.4.3 for recompiling.

heres what i did. download the file. go to root browser and paste it to framework overwrite > yes
Good to have this mod published. Loving being able to use the native app despite VZW's attempt to thwart.
So, I tried pushing via adb but kept getting Read-only file system. So, tried adb remount and got Operation not permitted.
Anyway, I ended up using Root Explorer. Then, instead of pulling battery I tried a key combo: hold down Power and Volume +- at the same time for a few seconds and got in to Safe Mode; then just rebooted. That was cool cause I didn't want to have to pull the battery.
Thanks for posting guys.
Do I have to be on a rom to use this or can I just be stocked rooted?
Can you please post the changes needed in the framework apk, so anyone ca make the changes?
Works perfect via root explorer. Thanks!
Awesome, thank you Das7982, Nitroglycerin33 and Electron73. tested and confirmed working :good:

Stock rooted is what you need to be on. The Latest OTA to be exact. Match your rom version with the one in orginal post :highfive:
Hey :good:
I patched Teamviewer Quick Support APK (originally for Samsung ROMs) and signed it with Cyanogenmod platform keys.
Runs flawlessly on my SGS i9000 running CM9!

Why not sign it with your own key like a regular app dev so everyone can use it?

Because this app requires some permissions that are granted only to applications that are signed with the same key as the platform (ROM).
What you're asking is impossible unfortunately.
"signature" A permission that the system grants only if the requesting application is signed with the same certificate as the application that declared the permission. If the certificates match, the system automatically grants the permission without notifying the user or asking for the user's explicit approval.

That being the case can you sign it with the platform key that Pete Alfonso is using on Bugless Beast?

could not load needed library 'libsurfaceflinger_client.so' for 'libjniscreenshot23.so'
Maybe you should get a copy of libsurfaceflinger_client.so and push it to /system/lib ?
Ask your ROM dev for more info.

For those of you who get the firmware incompatible message, ROM name / link please.
If we can get your ROM's platform keys, we can fix it.

Grabbed that lib (from goo.im), dropped it to system/lib, and changed the permissions, the app still crashes.

You would have to be on ics since it uses the 3.0.8 kernel. Since bootmenu has the ability to dual boot, you could always try flashing it on second system. If it doesn't work you'll still have your first system to fall back on.

Now we are talking, and it's the Chinese guys again!
unlock the freaking bootloader and get the bounty fellas..
Nees to know if this can be translated to English and a better link, this one is way too slow.

i dont think it's safe i just attempted to flash it and it erased boot menu so right now my phone is just bootlooping like crazy right now
There is a bug on Bootmenu, DO NOT FLASH full ROMs until devs fix this.

nevermind got it to work but a quick heads up to anybody who is going to flash this rom...it is going to erase boot menu so i suggest u not mess up like me...forgot to factory reset so had to use stock recovery to do that...another thing this rom boots up like in 25secs and its super fast doesnt have super user so i guess ill have to root it and everthing is english except for some minor stuff..ill upload it if i can because that chinese website takes forever to dl so i had to use that program on there website to get it so ill put it up so no one has to go through the same hassle....thanks xmsh for porting miui u did a great job
---------- Post added at 12:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:55 AM ----------
im going to hold off from uploading cuz this doesnt come with gapps so its going to be hard for people to restore a backup cuz they cant even get boot menu
---------- Post added at 12:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 PM ----------

ok now so i was able to get recovery working and restore back to my backup if anyone else that installed this has any problems download whirleys bootmenu from his forum http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720351
and get some something like root explorer or something similar
-Open Root Explorer
-Go to the System folder
-Go to the Bin folder
-Tap the button in the upper right corner to mount RW (This lets you edit files in there)
-Scroll down and find the file called hijack, long press and delete it.
-Scroll down to the file named logwrapper, longpress and delete it.
-Directly underneath that is a file named logwrapper.bin, long press and RENAME it to just logwrapper (so take off the .bin at the end)
-Tap the button in the upper right to mount as RO again
i would still hold off from installing this rom but if any one is having trouble getting bootmenu to come back and work this is the way to do it
I have a couple of questions.
1. How big is this rom/system.
I was wondering about using Google now. It the past i remember miui being pretty small.
2. Who the hell are these guys? He/they found a me865 leak before us, tries to port miui and failed then asked for the mb865 leak in a new thread( and was flamed and called "we todd did" or retarded). Then comes back three weeks later with a working miui.
3. He and [email protected] seem to have access to a Chinese forum/"technicians" (to quote sky) i don't. What and who is it?

I would hold of from flashing this but it seems they posted 2 miui roms the top one is like 200mb that is like double than a regular miui and the bottom one is like 190mb and is a little different from the top
EDIT.... Cleared out due to this post not being needed anymore.
Tip: if /system of this ROM doesn't include bootmenu. Use the system keeper option in Bootmenu BEFORE rebooting. Select install hijack. If it doesn't work. Restore a backup (hopefully you had one) all before rebooting.
Or use method above to install bootmenu again if you really want to use this ROM badly. But if you bootloop your stuck and will have to FXZ. Better safe than sorry.

Is there any opinions or reviews of this yet. There has got to be more than one guy that's "flashed" this. What have you experienced so far?
