[Q]How to expand my expand storage capacity?

Hi can someone properly guide me how to expand my storage capacity on my galaxy fit with razordoid v4.
I have checked other threads but they are more or less confusing... :/
I'd appreciate if someone could put the apps i need and the steps required in order to do that.

Do you have a sd ext partition?
If not, refer the guide in my sig...
From what i know, razodroid has a memory hack, so you just need a working sd partition...
Do not use Link2sd or other apps, since razodroid should set up the memory hack itself...

In your guide you mentioned ext3, but on razordroid i see that they talk a lot about ext4. What is all that about ?

Ext 3 and 4 are different file systems...
When you format system while installing a custom rom, cwm partitions it to ext4...
And when you partition sd with cwm, then the sd partition is ext3...
Try it...

Hardly found any specific advice about that so i'll stick to the basics and i can't post on the dev forum yet (new member limitation or smth) to ask directly there.
Atm i am backing up my system and application data for making the partition.
Also regarding your thoughts on shdc maybe in 1-2 years UHS-I and II will work with smartphones for faster transfer rates.

Its very easy.
Just do backup of all your sd card data(copy all your sd card to your pc).-IMPORTANT
Then boot in clockwork mod recovery and go in partition sd card option.(Its in mount and storage or advanced)
Then it will ask for your confirmation to format sd card. Selact yes.
Then you will be asked to set the value of partition. Then select 1024M(which means 1gb)
Then proceed further. Partitioning takes quite a long time so dont panic.
After its done and after rebooting device, in settings>sd card and phone storage, you will find that the sd card total space will be 1gb lesser than before(ex. If u have 7.32gb memory then it will become 6.32gb)
This tells that partition is complete. Now flash razodroid 4 and the memory hack patch and you will get 1gb of internal memory

K did all that but:
i had already installed razordroid v4. And although the partition was made ( i chose only 512, not that it would matter) it didn't increase the internal storage with 512. Can i do that manually? I woudn't want to flash razord again....

If you chose 512m then its ok. Ultimately it depends on users choice. And internal memory will become 512 mb only. The rom itself takes some internal memory by which you will not see complete 512 mb remaining under the internal phone storage option.

You would have to flash razo again...
The memory hack is implemented at first boot...

Partition isn't "soft"...
Even after data wipe, your partition shall remain, though it would be wiped too...
And just check how much internal memory you have...(from the default task manager)...
@people who've flashed razo - memory hack isn't optional...??

I have the same problem. I made a partition of 1 gb, i can see it is mounted, and when i flash razodroid, the internal memory is 178 Mb, But the sd card shows 1gb less. What can I do?

Can someone who has flashed the rom say whether memory hack is included or optional?

In the dev page raj says that it is included..

Its not included in the rom. It needs to be flashed seperately. But i hav not tried it.

Once you have partitioned your sd card you will always see and have 1gb less memory.

This explains it then...
Its not included, so either flash the memory hack, or use your preferred hacks/scripts/apps to make use of your sd ext partition...

Have no idea, in the description the mem hack is said to be included. And there is no parch. Anyway i PMed Raj and asked him to comment in this thread... He should be able to help us ...

I posted because it possible in PC to use external pendrive as RAM.

Theoretically possible by creating swap partitions in ur SD card...
Practically won't work as u can't get any sd card in the world to work as fast as ram can...
That is the read write speed of ur sd card is so pathetic compared to the ram...
So instead of increasing ur ram it slows the whole system down...

you can you need to be on a kernel that supports swap....while partitioning via cwm select swap size...on the other side ur sd will get dead soon even if you are on a class 10 sd it will lag like hell so it isnt recommend

The use of SWAP, known as an external RAM Extension is highly dangerous to your SD Card and will drastically reduce its life and R/W Speed, it can be done by:
1. Boot into CWM
2. Go to Advance options and make an EXT4 partition, it will ask you for SWAP size at one point and select your desired value/space
3. Creating the partition is over.
Just creating it does NOT damage your card, what damages it is the SD Card not being able to have a CONSTANT R/W capability such as RAM because RAM is in a way, well, modern RAM at least, self-sustaining memory as it in some computers for example actually stores boot information and sometimes even the BIOS itself. The use of external RAM will never be perfected as the SD Cards are NOT meant for it.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

Just as I said guys its no use using swap partition unless some hardware companies make superfast sd cards!

Creating a swap partition is just one side of the story
, it doesn't get auto enabled...
You need to set it up...

how to unpartiton the SD card?

hi.. im using 8GB class4 sd card.. and i had FAT32 second partiton about 1GB. now i wnat to formate that.. i want to change ext partiton thru recovery for FLYrom.. so plz can any body temme how to remove that FAT32 partition.. tell me both ways dat considering MINI partition tool and without mini partition tool.??

use a card reader and format it using your pc .....

c wanna recreate partiton thru recovery.. so i wont make any problem no??

Install minitool on pc.
You will see 2 partitions.
Delete the seceondary partition u made by right clicking and delete.
Now right click on original partition and then move/resize.
Drag the right arrow towards right so that unallocatedspace after is 0.
Click ok then apply

present i dont have minitool.. so can i format ma memory card?? and ill make partition thru recovery again.. will it do??

First unpartition then only make 2ndry partition either from recovery or minitool itself!

Yes, no formating without unpartioning or you may end up in getting your sd card corrupted!!

oh.. k.. can u temme whether FLY rom supports FAT32 or not??
cz i hav FAT32 in ma second partiton. if it wont detect so dat i need to change it to ext

fomat ur sd card in cm 9 under settings/storage....
it deletes ur secondry partition ...u'l get ur full memory back...
then create ur ext partition in recovery if u wanna flash sence 4.0

the scondry partition wont show up in mini tool if u r using windows so you cannot unpartition it or whatever ...A simple format did the job for me atleast and i got my full memory back without corrupting the card.....

yup....

Use another mobile (not android)
Which can accept your sd card ,use it to mount your sd card to windows computer
Then open minitool wizard
If it shows both partition,delete the second partition and move/resize the other partition and apply the changes
I think it will work

but i have small doubt.. i partitioned ma card thru recovery.. so which partition it would be ?? how to check partition type (whether ext2/3/4)??

Losing sdcard space

Hi everybody.
I had made 3 partitions on my 8GB micro sdcard using mini tool partion wizard.
6GB FAT32, 1GB EXT4 & 1GB SWAP.
i didn't use ext4 & swap . but now i can't see them in my computer .
now my sd card just have 6GB space .
what should i do?

If you make partition, only FAT portion is recognized by windows. So it only shows what size the FAT partition has, no matter u use it or not. Hope you got it

Dude do u even read the post

Hi
Format using right clic on windows or you can delete the partitions using the same program that built them.
Windows only recognize FAT16, FAT32, NTFS and exFAT. Linux distributions let see them.

Thats beacuse the fat32 partition is already at the sd card's max size. Decrease the fat32 partition by 1024MB and you'll be fine
