[Q] DELL Venue Pro : Weird lock/Stuck - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I purchased DVP from eBay from the guy who slightly used it. It seems its was a T-Mobile version. When I got it first time and inserted my sim in it and started the phone, it stucked on a screen which says.
7:41
Saturday
January 05
try again in 16794320 minutes
And I can't do anything on it except for the emergency call (or camera button works). I can see full signals, and also can receive calls. But can't make any call (except for emergency) and any other operation on the phone.
Is there someone who can suggest me whats wrong with the phone and why it is stucked in that weird situation? And most importantly, how can I get rid of this situation?
thanks.

your handset is pin locked and wrong pin entered lots of times

Thank you for your reply.
But is there any way to unlock it? Please suggest.
thanks,

Yes, the only option at this point is to do a hard reset. take the battery out for about 30 secs., put the battery back in and hold both the volume up and volume down buttons at the same time and hit the power button once while still holding down the volume buttons. You should see a white screen with instructions, follow the on screen instructions. Note that you might get the rainbow screen, if this happens just repeat steps until you get the white screen; took me a few tries but it works.

thanks for the suggestion.
I am trying that, but it seems not working. I kept pressing both volume keys and then press power button and it simply boots up, no white or any other screen.
Somewhere else on the internet, I read that you can't hard reboot Dell Venue Pro using buttons, the only way to do that is using its about menu (I never saw about menu of Windows 7 as this is the first time I am using it). Is that true?
thanks

Make sure you hold the 2 volume buttons down and then press and hold the power button for a second but keep holdin down the volume buttons the whole time.

Believe me, I tried it exactly as you said.
Hold down both volume buttons.
Pressed the Power button and released.
I took off the battery for several minutes and then put that back in and then tried it. But it just booted normally. Holding down the camera button though takes it to the USB mode.
I even tried that with and without SIM card.
Are you sure you tried that with Dell Venue Pro?
thanks, I appreciate your help

Ok first of the Dell was my favorite Windows phone but lacked some things that other Windows phones have like after Mango update the caplebility to WiFi tether and the camera is just hands down awful. Anyway I have a Titan now. Anyhow I gonna help you. Like I mention the Dell lacks a few things other windows phones have and one of it is the hard reset button combination. It won't work on the Dell. Your best thing to do is contact dell they can help you getting the phone back up running for you. Sorry.

I believe that the thread in the Venue Pro forums about how to unbrick it will apply here to fix your issue.

Found this on line (Google is your friend):
How to hard reset Dell Venue Pro using phone buttons
1. Switch the phone off, if it is unresponsive, remove the battery and reinsert after few seconds.
2. Press volume down and camera buttons simultaneously and keep holding it.
3. Press Power button and then release it but continue holding the volume down and camera buttons.
4. Once you see the format screen release the pressed buttons.
5. Follow the instructions to reset your phone to its factory default settings.

Do you have a link of that? I have been trying but didn't found any solution out there as well.

Tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411300 ?

What you've tried so far was Volume buttons, not Volume down+Camera buttons. Try that first and don't give up, on some phones you have to try many many times (my 2nd Desire HD wouldn't allow me to get to the boot loader before 15 minutes! I sold it the next day and I still owe the 3rd one).

thank you forelli. But remember, the volume down and camera buttons causes to boot in USB mode. I am not sure how it will get it to hard reset.

[Q] Trying to root, cant get into download mode

Im following this here:
http://www.techzek.com/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-blaze-4g-sgh-t769-smartphone/
But the power, vol up and down get it to show the yellow "warning" thing that im supposed to see, but it goes away after like half a second so I cant get into it. What else can I do?
how to get to download mode.
As you press the volume +/- and power button , simultaneously plug the micro usb cable into your phone (this cable should already be attached to your pc). This should do the trick.
Happy rooting.
The instructions in the first post are wrong, and should be updated. You have to have the cable plugged in. In the video for example, he has the phone plugged in the entire time. You're not required to have three hands in order to get it done.
I've had no luck with any of the variations on this method either.
Turn your phone off, hold both volume buttons and with your usb plugged into the computer take the other end and plug it into your phone while continuously holding the volume buttons. It will boot into the caution screen and than you press up to get into download mode.

If none of the above still don't work try this
1. Turn off phone
2. Remove battery
3. Remove sim card
4. Remove SD card
5. Plug in USB from computer
6. Hold volume up + volume down
7. While still holding the volumes insert battery
8. Should now be in download mode

Thank you both for the replies. I've tried both methods several times without success. I'm tired now so I'll quit for the night. I'll try again tomorrow a few more times. If I can't get it to work I'll take it as a sign that I'm not meant to root this phone. I must have tried 30 times today; it gets old.
Update:
I've tried this ten or fifteen more times. I'm finding that the yellow warning message, whatever it is, doesn't appear at all, ever, unless the USB cable is not connected when I put the battery in. If the USB is connected, I get the gray battery icon every time, no matter what else I do.
If I do connect the USB, with the battery out, I immediately feel the device vibrating every second or so, as if reboooting.
I tried removing the SIM and SD cards again. This had no effect.
It's very strange. In that video the entire process looks about as easy as doing a simple battery pull. It's just not working for me. Is it possible that Samsung made some of these phones "root-proof"?
Worst case scenario you will have to buy a Samsung jig.

I had to do it a few times myself.... It did not catch for me the first 3-4 times...
Then it worked. Make sure you are holding down all 3 buttons down tight.

I think I've tried it at least 50 times now, with variations, and it's just not happening. I freely admit my ineptness, but holding down buttons is something even I can manage.
By "three buttons", I take it you mean two. I don't have separate volume up/down buttons on my Blaze; just a single rocker button. That's what you mean, right?
I did get as far as the warning screen, but from that screen there is no option for pressing up to go into download mode, so it seems that my warning screen is different from others'.
I guess the next thing is to research "Samsung jig" and figure out whether this is something I can possibly do.
I went through the same thing, I too thought I had to purchase a jig but the method I posted thanks to another member saved me, try again with a modification to step 6
1. Turn off phone
2. Remove battery
3. Remove sim card
4. Remove SD card
5. Plug in USB from computer
6. Hold volume up + volume down + power buttons
7. While still holding the volumes insert battery
8. Should now be in download mode

Thank you. I just tried it a couple of times, without success. I have to go out now, but I'll give it another few tries later.
If I have to get a jig, should the Samsung Galaxy S be compatible? I'd think so, but I don't know for sure.
This is a slight variation of what everyone is suggesting...I was also getting vibrations when trying other methods.
Turn off phone
Unplug battery
hold volume rocker, make sure you're holding down both up and down
Insert battery
Hold power button until the warning comes up...only takes a few seconds
I said three buttons, because it seemed (at least to me) that you need to hold sides of the volume button down at the same time. It does not seem to be just a up/down button.

Thanks for this suggestion, but it also didn't work.
This method, like some of the others, takes me into what I think is Recovery Mode. I'm not sure, because I don't really know what I'm doing. The message that flashes on the screen isn't really a warning. Doing it this way, i.e., releasing the power button but not the volume button after the phone starts, takes me to a screen that says,
Android system recovery <3e>
at the top. Then there are some options: reboot system now, apply update from sdcard, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partititon. I can use the volume button to select an option, and the "OK Key", whatever that is, to select.
Near the bottom of the screen, in yellow, is the text that I couldn't read before:
-- Verifying internal MMC block...
checksum confirmation -> check(0)
Not need checksum confirmation
already executed!!...
# MANUAL MODE #
And that's it. In the background of this screen, grayed out, there's a white triangle with a yellow exclamation mark in it and a little green android.
Is there a way to get from this screen to Download Mode?

I guess it might if I could get ADB to work. So far, no luck; but that's a whole different problem. There are pages upon pages of posts here from people having difficulties getting ADB to work, so it'll take days or weeks to sift through all that and figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I thought the actual rooting process would be fairly simple, and it would only get complicated when trying to install custom ROMS and that sort of thing, which I'm not trying to do. It appears that I was wrong. I think I just don't have the knowledge to do this.

Make sure you have Kies Air turned on when you try to connect. You can use USB or wireless mode then. I tried and without Kies, it would not connect.

So I should have debugging mode and Kies Air turned on, and then ADB should be able to find the Blaze? I'll try it tomorrow.
Thank you.

[Q] Help with cheap tablet

Hello everyone. Let me start out by saying that I searched here and everywhere for a solution to this problem and I am not sure if this is the right place to post. I bought two Supersonic SC-91MID tablets for my kids for Christmas. 3 days after they opened them up one of them stays at the android start screen where android is in silver letters and it will not go past that. The only buttons that they have are a home button, a reset button, and a power button. They have android 4.0 ICS on them. I have tried to get to recovery mode many different ways such as holding the home button or reset button and pressing power but noting works. My thought is that if I can get to recovery mode I can reinstall the stock ROM from the other tablet that i have. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I wish that I could try that but the volume buttons are not hard buttons they are soft buttons so basically they are just places on the screen that are designated as buttons. But yes I tried them anyway no luck. I got the egg to RMA them at there cost so that is good. I am going to send them out Monday. I just hope that they don't act up again. Thank you for your help though.

DOPO T-708 stuck in boot loop!

I have a DOPO T708 7" tablet and it used rootchecker when I got it. Rootcheccker said it was rooted. So I installed the usual (busybox etc...) The tablet started randomly rebooting a lot, and not it's stuck in a bootloop. I don't care about data or anything, I just want it working again. HELP!!!
Try this...
Found this thread while looking for a way to root the T708 I bought today. Don't know if this is still an issue for you, but if so, maybe I can help. The one I bought today would load to the Android screen, then hang there. The person couldn't figure it out, but after much searching, I did...
Try this... Power down the device fully. Press and hold MENU hard key, and power on the device. Hold both the MENU key and the POWER button until the device boots and loads into a screen with an Android picture. From here press and hold the volume down key and the deveice should load up the standard Android recovery menu with a factory restore option. Should get you back on your feet...
NOTE: I BELIEVE it's the volume down key at the part I mentioned. If that doesn't work, try it with the volume up key. This is my first experience with these devices, so bear with me...
Hope this helps you, or some other poor soul that's found themselves in need...
Still stayed in the boot loop but thanks anyway. Glad someone's is working haha
I had to send my dopo tablet to the company in ontario california.they will fix it for free even if you are rooted. But you have to have your reciept. And within one year of purchase.

Got it to work!
Let it completely die. Then plug it in via mini usb. Hold menu, then power. Android logo appears, let go of the buttons. Android on back appears, press volume up. Menu appears. Factory reset, working, yay!

[Q] Black screen + vibrate, Titanium Backup crash

Hey guys,
I unlocked my TF700T using the Asus unlock tool, then rooted it with Kingo App.
I opened a terminal on the device and ran "su" to verify that I had root, which worked I did.
I then installed com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup ("Titanium Backup ★ root") and began a full backup, but at 65% my Internet connection dropped (not sure if related, but interesting timing) and the system froze. After 10 minutes at 65% I powered off the device in an attempt to reset.
However, the device now will not start. The screen remains unlit. Charge LED will not light. Holding Power for 6 seconds and holding Power + VolDown result in a short (500ms?) vibrate, but nothing more.
I have not yet tried a paperclip reset, or connecting the dock. I have tried connecting to both USB and power. With USB, Windows 8 detects it as a crashed device (no surprise there) and fails to install a driver.
I suspect I'm hosed, but I'd be interested to learn why.
Any theories or suggestions?
---
Android 4.2.1
Firmware V10.6.1.14.10
Same behavior with dock connected.
After connecting power through the dock, the charge LEDs have both lit.
Ah just re-read and realised you only get a vibration but no screen..... Bummer - not sure what to suggest for that one.
Well, thanks for trying
Sell it for parts, I reckon.

Since you don't have much options, you can try these. I think that there were a few users were running into this problem and tried this. Some reported back that it was not working and some did not say anything. So I don't know if it works or not but you could give it a shot.
Try these combinations:
1. Hold the power button + volume up. You will feel the first vibration and keep holding both buttons until you feel the second vibration. As soon as you feel the second vibration, you need to release the volume up button But you must keep holding the power button. You need to hold the power button until you feel the third vibration. The third vibration is when your device is trying to boot up. You may want to try a few times with those sequences above in hope that it will bring up your bootloader.
2. If the above sequences don't work out for you, you can try this second solution. However, you need to hold both power button + volume down this time with those sequences above. Please report back with the outcome, thanks and good luck...:fingers-crossed:

[Q]Can't get into Recovery Mode, possibly due 2 "sticky" power button. It got worse

[Q]Can't get into Recovery Mode, possibly due 2 "sticky" power button. It got worse
Couple of things first to lay down the situation.
I'm on BEAN Builds 19,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973982
I'm also using ClockworkMod Recovery. Not sure what version.
Now my power button is one of those "sticky" ones, where it's not springy. This has caused me a few problems in which I can't seem to use the button to turn on my phone anymore. If the phone is off, I have to pull the battery, and then re=insert it to turn the phone back on. Also I'm not sure if button is "being held down", since it's so sticky, but the quick toggle options in the ROM for Restart and Recovery don't work. When I use the quick toggle for restart, my phone just turns off, and doesn't restart. As for recovery, I'll touch on that below.
Today I wanted to flash myself a new modem. So I tried to get into Recovery mode. I go into there once after a couple of tries, but the Power Button , being in the down position from the "sticky button", hit the option to restart the phone before I could flash anything/do anything. After a couple of tries of unsuccessfully getting into Recovery Mode the normal holding down buttons way, I decided to try the quick toggle in the rom to get into Recovery mode.
But just like hitting the restart option, it didn't do what I wanted it to do. My phone shut off, but that was it. Now when I try to battery pull and reinsert to get the phone to turn back on, all it does is show the Samsung Logo, turn black, and that's it. I'm assuming that it's trying to boot into Recovery Mode since that's what it was last told to do before I shut off my phone, and I also think that the "sticky power button" is throwing off the phone's attempts to do that.
Any help or direction would be great and much appreciated. Thank you for your time you took to read this.
Bang ur fone on a table. Seriously ppl been doing that on ur situation to pop out the power button. Try to cover ur fone or put a cloth on table so ur fone wont get scratch and stuff

I've got a very similar issue. Only difference is my power button is not stuck at all. However regardless of how I try to enter recovery/Download/ or simply to restart my phone I often times have to try 10 - 15 times before anything other than the Samsung splash screen into black screen of ??? Happens. Up until 5 minutes ago and hopefully for good something somehow decides to let the phone do as I had asked(told) it to do. Wish I had an answer or some help for you instead of reporting the same problem. Hopefully someone out there does.

Did you open up your phone and meter the button? If not its probably sticking. The button you see on the outside is just a contact not the actual button so it won't look compressed. Sounds like your problem is super sensitive button which is related to the sticking button in fact it was what happened to me beforeit started sticking.
