possible..but i've not tried.
in the video, you have to lower the quality setting.
the default setting take beautiful, crisp clear vids.
just to give you an idea,
a 10 min vid with default setting is about 250mb.
the starting at&t data plan is only 200mb for some people.
you can try to lower the quality to make the size of your vid smaller
a simple pic is almost 3mb

yea, there is a "optimize for mms" setting, but its like 400xsomething. and im not worried about data usage. unlimited

ATT forum....establish the maximum file size for MMS messages. One thread said that the file size can't exceed 600kb. That's not very much for a video.

thats stupid. especially when my old iphone would send video messages that were any size.

If you had an old iPhone when Unlimited Data was still available, probably no issue. I'm sure the limit is for the recipients sake as opposed to you. Not everyone has that data plan.

YouTube uploading

Short and sweet, cant upload to YouTube. I have a video that's 97 megs and it fails every time. I am on wifi....stumped.
you need to keep retrying and itll eventually upload. or you can just upload from a computer which is much quicker and easier.

Thanks. Is this a problem with android overall or the captivate? I came across some droid x post complaining about vids over 100 megs.

This problem is really bugging me too. From what I have read the YouTube app uploader isn't very good and the uploads are something smaller than 720p once they are on YouTube. There is an app by pixelpipe?? that can supposedly keep the upload in 720p but there's something on the EULA about them owning the content and you have to give them your password.
From what I understand about the upload failures (on wifi) it seems to be a twofold problem. YouTube has updated their site twice in recent months which may be creating compatibility problems with the app. Also the youtube's compression and distribution system seems to be in a state of chaos in general.
I haven't seen anything that comes out and says any of this but its what I've been able to piece together.
I'm planning to shoot some vids this weekend so I'll keep looking and post if i find anything out

Well that blows! I wonder if samsung is aware of the problem and working on it. I hate not being able to upload in HD to YouTube.
Probably has to do with the lack of HSUPA
oh, you did say WiFi... never mind

Yeah but you have to agree to them owning the content which total BS.
you stole my thread
I just took a 40mb 720p video and have been trying to upload it for maybe 30 min now. It keeps stopping after moving a few % and says will "...retry after 1 minute..." But it only does another few % then stops again.
Terrible. Kinda destroys the whole flow of personal media. I read here that its an app/youtube problem so I hope they update it
WORK AROUND!
So uploading to Qik works very smoothly and fast. So use Qik to upload to Youtube/Facebook!
Basically go to a computer and link your Qik account with Youtube/Facebook. Then log out of the android app and log back in. Now, go to the video you want to upload and hit the upload button. Wait for it to finish upload. NOW hit the Youtube/Facebook button! Tada!! It will send the video to youtube/facebook after its done processing.
Hurrah!! I haven't tried it over 3G but suspect that its not limited. Also currently uploading so I will let everyone know if its HD or not.
Edit: Never mind, not HD :-(

Samsung really needs to fix these things. I mean the gps issue, connecting to enterprise wifi, exchange issues, and YouTube uploads on wifi. Do we have to wait till Froyo for these fixes?

the youtube thing isnt really a samsung issue. ive read that its a problem with all android phones. its the actual youtube app and servers that cause it.

no mms video sending option?

got the HD7 and i cant seem to find a option to send a mms video.. i tried the lowest resolution setting and still wont give the option to send a video.. ? anyone?
+1 Today, I needed to send a video from my phone for the first time ever (I mean in my whole life) and I cannot do it with the HD7, is it mean or have Microsoft made a boo-boo?
Just checked on my trusty desire, that even has an upload to Youtube option!!
wondering if all wp7 are this way ..can a samsung owner or a lg or a surround owner check on their phones for video sending option please
I'm on a focus and can confirm the same. I try to send the video, I can see the preview in the folder/category, but when I go into the details of the folder/category to select the item, the video doesn't show up.
For me it's not a dealbreaker since, well, I've never once, ever sent an MMS video message, but at the same time it IS a line item feature that should simply be there. No excuse why it's not.
Not a deal breaker for me either, but would be nice to have

I just purchased my 3gs and have been trying to get everything set up but what confuses me is that everything says that there should be a little camera icon next to the text feild when I open the messaging window and I do not seem to have this on either of the 2 phones I bought.
Thanks

To the OP, apparently wp7 supports receiving video messages but not sending them. Supposed to be addressed in an update down the road.

send it via email. MMS compresses the picture for space to allow the file to send faster.
MMS wasn't really designed for large screens (i.e. a computer) it is for phone-to-phone messaging where the compression you're referring to wouldn't be very noticeable. If you're sending something to someone (or yourself) to be viewed on a computer, send it via email like akellar said. By the nature of Android, you already have a Gmail account on your phone, so you've got no reason not to.
I'm pretty sure USC has a limit on the file size of MMS too - so it may not be possible to attach a picture with a large resolution.

I thought so, too, but according to USCC's FAQ, it's 5MB, or I'm looking at the wrong place?
8. What are the size limitations for picture and video messages?
Picture and video messages sent between handsets are only limited by the phone model. For videos, 15 seconds is a good rule of thumb for maximum length.
Incoming picture and video messages from email are limited to 5MB.
For emails greater than 5MB: If an email is sent to a Picture and Video Messaging phone that exceeds the 5MB limit, the person sending the email will receive a 'Message Failure' email to indicate that the message is too large and therefore was unable to be sent. Users can check the total size of the email being sent to help predict if the email will exceed this limit.
For emails less than 5MB: Email messages less than the 5MB limit will be reduced to a size the phone can handle. The conversion process will lessen the quality of the picture or video along with the file size.

Although it says "email" in the quoted text, it is in the section for "Picture and Video Messaging" which it calls MMS toward the top of the section.
*shrugs*
It's not USCC compressing it, it's the phone. My wife's Blackberry sent pictures full resolution to my Blackberry. Now her same phone still sends it full rez, but my phone compresses it.
There are fixes for other phones to allow them full rez, I'm looking for one for this phone!
Thanks all

Yes, I've tried GO SMS and am currently using Handcent and it makes no difference. Thanks for the idea tho!
The mms can be modified to send full supported res of the phone. Then possibly receive also. But it depends on the phone the mms was sent from. Also us cellular has a 1mb limit.
Edit: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16907924/Mms.apk Dowload that and use root explorer to move it to system/app. Though make sure you force stop and clear the data for the stock mms in applications. I pulled that out of gas's rom but should work in mine and pick and pack if it is the ee19 mms. Enjoy
Edit2: Fixed link

Thank you!! Ok, I downloaded that and got it put in the system/app folder on my stock USCC ee19. I rooted it, then used root explorer. It didn't work! Do I need one of the other ROMs to make it work? If so could you please tell me exactly how?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just learning this!! I did use odin to flash back to stock 2.1 a month ago, but then used Kies to go to the newest 2.2 this week.
Thanks!
What rom you on? If stock ee19 it could be because you had odex files. I only mess with apps that aren't.
As for not working what do you mean by this? The app doesn't work or still the same issue?

Sorry, I meant still the same issue. I'm running the stock ee19 just released this past Tuesday. Sorry, I don't know what odex is?
Thanks for helping a newb!
Um the odex files is hard to explain but a google search will give you quicker better results than me trying to explain it. As for having the same issue I am not sure.
As the only settings are for sending a message. Which I changed. But if it is getting a picture. It depends on the phone that is sending it. As when a picture is sent every android resizes it. Along with dumb phones.
The only phone I know first hand that doesn't do this is the desire. Which would only be one on cm, possibly some on aosp roms. Then ones on the roms I did.

Cant send video mms?

Im using scotts deodexed 1.85 stock rom but for some reason i cant send video over mms. pics work fine but i cant send vids. not really a huge deal but if i can get it fixed why not?
what size? att has strict size limit. I shrink mine to 600kb, then it works

What is the file size limit on pictures sent through MMS/whatever the S7 were uses?

Coming from the S5 I was surprised to be able to send max resolution photos without any sort of special setting or compression. Does anyone know how this works? Did the size limit on MMS get lifted?
