Hi,
Looking for an automatic way to categorize apps, we decided to propose an app to build an open database for app categorization and offer an API to easily access the available data.
The use of the API and associated database is demonstrated within the app CatApplus (see the associated thread). The app helps to build and consolidate this API and database. We present this app in a different thread to be less ambiguous in the releases and bug reports (note for moderators).
Examples of what you can obtain:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
How does CatApplus works:
-it retrieves all your apps
-it uses our API to retrieve associated categories from our database
-it stores all data in the application database for offline use and propose you categories via folders
-categories are listed below and apps that are not found from our server are put into "uncategorized" category (for manual categorization)
What is done server-side (API):
-each request (namely, the package name of the app) is proceeded via a parsing of available categories from markets (for the moment it is the Android Market but if you know other possible markets, you're welcome); if the app cannot be found in the database or in the available markets "unknown" tag is attributed
-the retrieved data is stored in a database for future use
-a JSON output is provided for an external app to retrieve: category; name; publisher name
-a regular dump sql/csv file is provided to import for your own use, your own app/rom/launcher; this file is free to use;
We offer (with no guarantee, of course !) our API and regular dump copy of the database for your own use ; no guarantees concerning availability in future (server costs), accuracy, maintenance ...etc.
The more the API is used, and the more data is available for your use ! The app will simply help to achieve this quickly. Just download the app CatApplus and let it guides you !
The available categories are the same that are available in the Android Market: 'Arcade & Action','Brain & Puzzle','Cards & Casino','Casual','Racing','Sports Games','Books & Reference','Business','Comics','Communication','Education','Entertainment','Finance','Health & Fitness','Libraries & Demo','Lifestyle','Live Wallpaper','Media & Video','Medical','Music & Audio','News & Magazines','Personalization','Photography','Productivity','Shopping','Social','Sports','Tools','Transportation','Travel & Local','Weather'
Some limitations:
-In CatApplus we defined an "Uncategorized" category for apps with "unknown" category (from teh API)
-"unknown" category for apps that cannot be found in available markets for the API
-Available markets: Android Market only for the moment
-The API:
Code:
http://api.ergsap.com/catapplus/catapplus_ind.php?catApplus_pn=myPackageName
Example (a great game!):
Code:
http://api.ergsap.com/catapplus/catapplus_ind.php?catApplus_pn=com.thevoxelagents.TrainConductor2
will output the JSON code:
Code:
[{"catApplus_pn":"com.thevoxelagents.TrainConductor2","catApplus_name":"Train Conductor 2: USA","catApplus_cat":"Brain & Puzzle","catApplus_pub":"The Voxel Agents"}]
In maintenance mode, the output is simply maintenance.
If the application cannot be found, all fields are set to "unknown", so the JSON output is:
Code:
[{"catApplus_pn":"myPackageName","catApplus_name":"unknown","catApplus_cat":"unknown","catApplus_pub":"unknown","catApplus_cat_pending":""}]
if the app cannot be categorized
or
Code:
[{"catApplus_pn":"myPackageName","catApplus_name":"unknown","catApplus_cat":"unknown","catApplus_pub":"unknown","catApplus_cat_pending":"pending"}]
if the app has not been categorized yet.
3 Dump files of the database (SQL/CSV files) are automatically updated (several times a day) and bzip compressed; raw csv, raw sql and buffered/memory efficient sql (smaller and faster insertions/import; you cannot edit it-one row syntax); see database to download;

Android Market
Hi,
For the current release, when you install/uninstall apps, CatApplus doesn't automatically update categories due to performance issue; hit "menu/update categories" to launch a quick scan for the moment.
Do not hesitate to "reset categories" if "too many" apps have not been categorized (under "uncategorized" category); this may be due to internet connections, delay in server response ...etc
Adding apps to db?
So far I like the app. How do you categorize an existing app that is uncategorized?

Hi,
We are working on a "manual categorization" feature, notably for "Uncategorized" apps. Apps that cannot be found on our database or on selected markets are automatically put into this category. For the moment, only the Android Market is supported (i.e. if the app is not listed in this market, its category will remain "unknown"); we're working to integrate more markets to be able to categorize these apps and we will propose probably a "Category suggestion" to our users in the future.
A quick fix for the moment will be to use the "Favorite" category to gather the useful apps you want to categorize, in order to access them more easily. To put an app in "Favorite", long click on it, then "bookmark"; the new category will appear at the top of the list.
An other quick fix is to submit the apps you want to categorize, with their "legitimate" category/link so that we can check and...manually... integrate them into our database; for this fix, the categories must match the ones listed in the original post. We'll try to answer as quickly as possible ; send us a mail or post them directly in this post (other members may help to find the "legitimate" categories/developer/market links...etc); we could also propose an open Google Spreadsheet for the uncategorized apps ...many approaches !
Thanks for the feedback
Hi,
Here are some updates:
We have categorized so far 1357 apps; more statistics data are available here.
Dump files of the database (SQL/CSV files) are now automatically updated (several times a day); we will compress these data into bzip archives in the future for large files; see app and database to download;
We will propose soon an open google spreadsheet to contribute as far as possible to the categorization of apps with "unknown" categories.
More information are given in the links below:

weird bug, it does the same for the Droid Bionic.
At launch, it tries to create a local database of existing apps; this is probably the cause of the error you experienced. Without a precise log, it is difficult to solve. Could you PM your logs associated to the application crash or send a report (for the market version probably)?
The app works fine on N1, Galaxy Tab, Nexus S, Galaxy S/S2 ...and 2.1/2.2/2.3 emulator...4.0 version is too slow on the actual emulator. We cannot test on every phone model...really weird bug.
Hope this will be fixed soon !
Here are some screenshots of the new theme for phones and tablets:
Hi,
A weird bug to be fixed in CatApplus: persistence of the background preferences (color/texture) when the app is launched after a while; a second launch fixes the preferences. We're working on for the next release.

You're welcome, please test My Maps also. I'm very interested how this works on such a big screen
Thanks, definitely there's a need for an alternative to OruxMaps, which has terrible UI (most functions as well though) .

Locus is not just an alternative
Current support of My Maps is almost unique since My Maps editor from Google not work almost on all phones.
Also ability to directly download map (for example along defined path) into shared online cache or into separate file, wide range of map providers, etc. I have also prepared My Tracks integration directly into app but I'm waiting for new version of My Tracks on market.
i'd be glad to sent you logs of force closes. but i never had one... B-)

Okay, this is really nice I love the UI..
The only thing I'm missing a bit is the german only "hike & bike"-mapsource (http://hikebikemap.de//http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Colin_Marquardt/Hike_%26_Bike_Map).
just wanted to tell that version 0.9.3 is on the market. and it looks like the developper can't wait to publish 0.9.4 ;-)
nice new features, smooth as butter. now supporting route tracking!

Thanks Nick for tip, German Hike&Bike map (but without shading) is simply added!
and yes berkley, I can't wait to publish new version But it needs some more testing. Who want to test new features, can do here http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=129. Feedback is welcome.
I actually published on Market new version. Main purpose is fixed access to Google My Maps account, mainly on android 2.1 devices. I really hope that now all will works ok!
there are also new features. Complete list of news, is as usual after application start!
Enjoy ...
Radically improved (on design side) version 0.9.10 is published on market now!
Please try, use it as much as possible and let me know about bugs and wishes!
MenionAsamm2, this is a very nice app!
Will try it next time outside with german army
One question: Is or will it be possible to navigate to coordinates?
You have to have any point to navigate on! So easiest is to go to any points category, tap bottom plus symbol and add point.
After that, you should simple click on it and choose guide on (to navigate on map with just "line" between you and target), compass (to compass screen) or navigate (to use google navigation)!
Wow, this is the best map viewer I've ever seen. Completely replaced Orux Maps for me. Thank you and keep up this great work!
Of course I will report any bugs I may encounter, logcat inclusive.
Can't install from the market. Says the device is not supported.
Archos 101 Tablet running Android 2.2.1
Would it be because the A101 doesn't include a GPS ?
Hi, it seems nice
For now it seems nice enough,
I have a HTC Tattoo running GB 2.3.2
I need some offline map viewer since I am going skiing abroad, I already use BruteAll Gmaps with world navigation enabled, I will inform you how it all works in couple of days.
Cheers

Hi,
I actually published new version with improved market filtering. Gps is not required for app so now is explicitely disabled this requirement. Please try to install and let me know ...
Can confirm the new version is running on the Archos 101 Tablet ..
Good stuff!
Hi guys,

A kind of it yes, but it deals also with whole the apps you have installed and the entire android market
It will tell you to play that game you were not aware of its existence before launching SerendApp...and you'll have also the possibility to uninstall it directly from SerendApp (click on a thumbnail in the sliding gallery at the top)
Why not sending a message to a friend or send an email to a contact as proposed by SerendApp ..why note writing some notes or tasks to do as the app is now launched (ColorNote, NoteEverything..etc)...etc
It can be helpful when you don't want to do something specific from your drawer...just let SerendApp decide for you
You can repeat the experience as many times you want.
As a consequence...you can install far more apps to test them at random from SerendApp and uninstall them also directly, it is no more necessary to search them (as far as the random law is satisfying )
As it was helpful for me, i hope it will be so for you
As a first version, will bring very soon customization features

More options are coming soon
Interestingly, the more you install apps, the better your user experience will be
So, do not care about installing as many interesting apps as you want (in the limit of your memory card or your internal system of course ...) and let SerendApp pick each time one for you
I like the idea! Fun
Would like to have more choices.
- Play/find from market a random game only(pre select Paid or Free)
- Same as above for apps
- Or maybe integration with folder organizer to launch a random app from a specific label or the ability to label all apps from within your application. Basically create my own random buttons.
- Integration with Facebook/Twitter/Other social network apps to view a random friend's page or even a non-friend's page.
- Integration with gallery and music player
-Bring up a random contact to call, or even open up a random chatbox with a friend who's online on Gtalk.
Good work!

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback and for these constructive suggestions and ideas.
Some of them are aldready on the road and we will consider all of them for next releases (if ever possible ...as possible limitations may be for reluctance of users concerning too much Permissions required as View/Read Contacts for bringing at random a contact, difficulties to have app categories, number of buttons/dialog boxes in the user interface...etc all but if there is no solution, it means there is no problem (Schadock))
Thank you gaain for your feedback

-beta banner for future improvements
-bookmark feature (launch at random bookmarked apps): click on a thumbnail and bookmark
-app categorization (same ~30 categories like in the android market) => filter options
-hidden features:long click on "My Apps" launches "bookmarks", on "web" launches "i'm feeling lucky", on app categorization (in menu/parameters/apps) shows associated apps (click to launch apps)
-images and slideshows from Google image/flickr/picasa
-news from Google News
-(the Market app do not accept filtering options such as price and sort filters like its web counterpart, perhaps in near future)
Hidden options:
-long click on "My Apps" (green droid): launches Bookmarked apps
-long click on "Web": launches "I'm feeling lucky" behavior
-long click on a category: shows associated apps
Filtering apps by category: some apps may not appear if they are not listed in the android market (manufacturer such as Motorola/samsung or operator's apps); it is not recommended to filter (let all categories uncheck to avoid filter) as you may miss a special app or a special config
More options are coming soon
Share your discoveries on our blog
Enjoy with SerendApp
Version 1.1.1:
-Much faster + more relevant keywords generation
Version 1.1:
-added video features
-compact view mode+settings
-launch automatically an activity when SerendApp starts (like widget functionality; see settings)
Some screenshots:
List of installed apps are now available
You can choose the apps you want to play with using SerendApp, for instance all your last games or tools or quiz and launch them at random
Selected installed apps have priority over categories,i.e. if you selected Brain & Puzzle apps category and you selected in the list of installed apps GMail, Facebook and Messaging, only these three installed apps will be launched; to retrieve apps of the selected category, do uncheck selected apps (there is a check button for select/unselect all)
screenshots are there: https://picasaweb.google.com/quintessart/Serendapp
And download here: SerendApp
You have 3 or 4 or ...n favourite daily apps ?
Just select them in SerendApp (menu/parameters/my apps) and only these apps will be launched, with no effort and at random
You can also bookmark them (so that you can launch them as "bookmarked apps" in long click on "My apps"-green droid- button). Click on a thumbnail to bookmark; we will add this option in apps selection in next release.
Shortcuts are upcoming in next release with new "local" features .
Shortcuts, by definition, will be associated with one or more features (All stuff, My Apps, My Bookmarked Apps, My Selected Apps, My Apps Categories, videos, images, web pages, i'm feeling lucky, social, market,wiki...etc), directly from your homescreen, without opening SerendApp
This will simply save your time and make you use your apps (and your smartphone) more often , while discovering new things. Interestingly, the more apps you install, the better is your user experience
Stay tuned and enjoy with SerendApp ;-)
Hi,
Suggestions of using SerendApp with friends :
1) install several games (e.g. quiz..brain & puzzle, arcade...etc)
2)select them in SerendApp (menu/parameters/My Apps) or select Games categories (menu/parameters/categories: unselect "selected apps" in "My apps" if you choose categories as the priority for launch will be for selected apps)
3)the first user will launch "My Apps" (green droid) and start playing with the randomly launched game => 1 point or score if he wins
4)the second user launched identically "My apps" and so on ...
For Quiz games, the user who launches "My apps" could ask the questions to the candidate player
Enjoy with SerendApp !!

Hi,
The last update fixed the "infinite loop" bug affecting the categorization of some apps.
If you have experienced any difficulties with this last version, do not hesitate to report the issues.
Apps that cannot be found on the Android Market or other integrated alternative markets will generally be put into the category "Uncategorized"; you can place them manually in the 32 available "native" categories. If you reset your categories, you can import these manual changes with "/menu/manage apps/import".
I would use this as my app drawer but ... the folder type is hard to read with the drop shadow. grid set to 153.
a coupl emore options on how folders are displayed would be nice. maybe even tha ability to rename officiel folder names, or merge catagories.
allow our own hierearchy of folders like you did for games. all individual types of games show up in games so enterteainment AND lifestyloe oficial categores go into a local folder "Style"
Something that I have been looking for !
Let me give it try now..

Hi,
The app is available in the Android Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ergsap.catapplus
Only apps that can be found on the Android Market and a few others can be categorized. All apps that cannot be categorized are put under "Uncategorized" folder (some system apps or some apps generally integrated with the device such as volume/voice/settings/DSP...etc).

Hi,
Nice suggestions, thanks for the feedback
Ok for custom folder type/better grid/shadow control/more display control/rename native categories/possibility to merge categories. The app aims to be better and better
For your own app launcher, i suggest you to use the API used by Catapplus to be able to do what you want with {App_ID, App_Name, App_PublisherName,App_Category}. App_Category proposes 32 native categories (the same that can be found in the Android Market).
CatApplus just use this API and simply shows what can be done with such available information to build a nice app browser tool (the first one ?).
The limitations are several folds:
-the API delivers categories for apps that can be found on the Android Market (some other apps are being integrated progressively); the API outputs
"unknown" category for apps that cannot be categorized;
-the database is freely available to use with your own application (we propose regular dump SQL/CSV files); it is a static database (between releases) but it is, as far as i know, the first attempt to build an open API for this purpose ;-)
So you have two solutions: API or import the entire database for your own app (using JSON parsing functions). For remaining uncategorized apps, manual features can be proposed.
See the thread related to the API and the database (here) to know how to use them for your own application. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Hi,
We updated CatApplus in the Android Market with several bug fixes (notably favorites, hidden apps/categories ): CatApplus
The database has been updated for performance and set to read-only: if a standard app is not categorized with the current version of the database, check later "Reset Category" to see if your app has been added to the database and thus to get its category. You can set manual categories also directly from the app and import them if needed later. Regular dumps of the database are always available on the statistics page here.
The database has for the moment more than 320000 categorized apps, among the most popular ones ! Plus 17000 apps has been labelled/categorized as unknown because either they are stock apps or simply they are not available on regular markets.
For some of you that find this app terribly useful, do not hesitate to post/send some feedbacks
Hi,
We will post on our twitter account notifications for the updates of our database; so that you can update the categories for your apps !
Follow us at: @ergsap
So, when an update is available for the database:
1) just hit "menu/reset cat." to reset the categories (a few seconds only )
2) then, if you had previously set manual categories, hit "menu/manage apps/import categories"
your bokmarks will be preserved, of course .
If any feedbacks, do not hesitate to share.
Hi,
A new update of CatApplus database is available with 27000 more apps categorized, for a total now of ~350000 apps categorized (great !) ! Just reset categories to see updates for your apps if you have uncategorized apps !
1) hit "/menu/reset cat."
2) if you set manually some apps, hit "/menu/manage apps/import categories" to restore your categories
3) you're done !

Update 1.2.6
Hi,
A new update of CatApplus is available in the Android Market with bug fixes and a new feature !
The new feature is the "Pending" category that indicates if the app has aldready its category in our database.
Just scan your apps ("menu/reset cat." and import your changes if you have made manual modifications of course via "/menu/manage apps/import categories").
=> Each time the database is updated, check the pending folder for avaialble categories for these apps: long click on the "Pending" folder and "reset cat." to scan for category updates only for these apps.
Bug fixes concern mainly the display of "list-style" theme icons and performances.
Upcoming feature: choose your custom folder icon ... !
Check CatApplus in the Android Market: Link
If any suggestions/ideas, do not hesitate.
Hi,
App updated in original post (Version 2.6.1)

Not in its actual form, but we take it as a suggestion. We'll look at that
The API counterpart of CatApplus make this easy to implement if possible (see CatApplus API discussion here).
Hi,
New update of CatApplus with style for folders !
You can change a folder icon or all folders at once. We provide a preselected set of cool icons (long click on a folder or menu/design/change...).
These data are saved in ergsap/catapplus/folder_style on your memory card. You can thus add your own icons in that folder, they will be available in CatApplus for your customization.
The database has been updated with now 466000 apps categorized !
We have so far categorized 15 million apps ! Huge !
Just check you apps list !

The first functional SVN (Subversion) client for Android that correctly uses the SVN protocol! Works for http:// https:// and svn:// repositories! svn+ssh:// (and private key) has been added, please email me with input on it.
OASVN is a free and Open Source software licensed under the Lesser GPL. This Professional version receives bug fixes and general stability updates that the free version does not get and helps support development of OASVN. I will be adding additional nice features to the pro version only, but I want to keep the free version fully functional as an subversion client.
Major changes in this version include
• svn+ssh:// + private key support
• a local and repository browser with many features
• Conflict detection and resolution!
• Working copies can now be saved anywhere in the filesystem.

This version of OASVN supports the following SVN operations:
• Checkout (Head or Choose Revision)
• Update
• Commit
• Add (files added to the working copy directory are automatically added on commit
• Export (allows complete export from the remote repo or just exporting just one file from either the working copy or the remote repository).
• Cleanup
• Revert
• Conflict Resolution!!!! (Notification of conflicts happens during update and conflicted files are marked in the local browser, clicking on the file in the local browser presents resolution options
Additional features:
• Remote Repository browse allows the ability to export any single file to your local file system
• Remote Revision list with complete details of files added/deleted/modified, author, commit comments, date, etc.
• Log keeps track of all successes and failures on a connection basis and retains information until you clear it out.
• Local Repository browsing allows you to export from your local copy, open files via intent by mime type (should present your with the correct application choices for the job, it is up to the application to respect opening the file by URI) and also shows svn status of files in conflict, or locally updated.
• New svn+ssh code with private key support! (again this is not well tested, I would appreciate feedback using the jira: http://www.valleytg.com/jira
• Now allows you to save working copies and exports anywhere on the local file-system. (the predetermined /mnt/sdcard/OASVN has been removed)
Major Contributors to the project include: (Thank You!)
Tim Jagenberg : svn+ssh with private key
Sascha Zieger (qxontic): local browser and export ability
Also there is English and German language support. Currently looking for help with French, Japanese and Russian translations, if you can help, there is more information at these links:

Note: svn+ssl is still experimental. I have received some positive feedback but I do not have access to do in-depth testing yet on this protocol, please send me any feedback using the Jira, my email or website.
I found that interesting. You might want to expand on the features, and add some screenshots here.
For those interested, this is the direct Google Play link.
OASVN
Sure... Thanks for the input.
See first post with update screen shots.
I usually use it like this...
open oasvn
add repos / checkout
all checked out files will go to your mountable storage (most of the time /mnt/sdcard/OASVN or OASVNlite
Once the checkout is complete I open AIDE and use the file browser to navigate to the directory where the checkout took place.. If you use eclipse for your projects you can just click on the project to open it in AIDE..
Do your changes and testing..
Go back to oasvn and commit.
Done. (until next change )
I did a minor update to add a scroll view to one of the activities..
Also currently svn+ssl is not working (regular svn:// http:// and https:// all should) But I am working on adding it...
Version 1.0.3
Did a pretty big update... changes:
* A lot of enhancements intended to make it smoother to use.
* Added the ability to add comments to the commit! (PRO version only)
* Spinning Dialog when performing network action (checkin / checkout)
* Better visual feedback on what is going on
* Fixed a couple of bugs dealing with GUI changes from the threads..
* svn+ssh:\\ support is now experimental.
* Added full local path to the GUI
new version
Newest changelog.
Lots of bug fixes (think i have them all), some enhancements:
- improved svn+ssh:// (still experimental)
- stopped rotation of screen from crashing network activity
- screen will stay awake while doing network activity (sleeping was causing failure)
- Add repo form does validation
- checks local folder names to avoid collisions
I've been using this application and I congratulate you, it's really useful!
I just want to ask for some functionality, when you have the time you could implement some way to check the repository history - all the commits and comments associated with them.
I believe most android users just need an app to check for updates in their repository rather than checkout the project on the device.
Thank you again, the app is really good.

Thank you very much... I have just committed code that will handle a local log of what is going on. And I agree with your point about seeing what the status / history is of the remote repository. I will make this a priority, it is right in line with what I have planned..
Thanks again..
I'm trying the application pro version and it's a great idea., something that i was really missing in Android.
I'm finding a major issue, i'm able to checkout the porject but when i try to commit any change (just a new file created) i'm getting an error (-1 field in the screen) and the revision field is reset to -1, i don't detect any communication attempt in httpserver logs.
I'm using https (with http the behaviour is similar) and the device is a galaxy nexus with 4.0.4

Thank you for this app! I am currently exporting my ROM to my phone, AWESOME! I might go paid soon once I play with it Only one suggestion, add a downloaded content percentage like tortoise, or an estimated time to completion. I've been downloading the ROM for well over 30 minutes lol and no idea how close to done it is Thanks again!
Thanks
I have been looking at ways to get show some sort of feedback on how far along it is... I created a jira for it you can check the progress here: http://www.valleytg.com:8090/browse/OASVN-48
I checked your r146 out and it took over 30 minutes... Exporting is alot faster for getting the full rom (more like 10 to 15 minutes), but every export takes the same amount of time. But checking out and updating, the updates are much faster. I updated from r146 to r164 in just a minute.
very interesting
OASVN 1.0.9 Export Mod

Here's one;
Multi select in main window to
be able to batch uninstall.
I let my 3 year old g33k to play with my N9005 and as always he installed a few new apps via Google play. Using sorting by install date I can easily pinpoint them, but I still have to go through lot of clicking to uninstall them one by one.

I was thinking of adding a new grid view, in addition to the app list popup, to navigate apps by categories.
Something like Apps and Games groups folders at first level, drill into a group to show related categories (as folders with icon) then drill again into a category folder to show related apps.
A sort of traditional launcher view alternative to the main Jina list popup view, just in case you prefere to navigate your phone instead of direct search for an app.
One more Idea...
I just realized, how U can make current T9 even better.
Please rearrange the letters so they will conform to classic T9 layout. Sorry for not noticing before.

As far as I'm concerned , speed is of highest priority. One click for Jina Launch, then two or three clicks in T9 keyboard and final click for launch. That is for launching.
For browsing, I use View filter by 'last installed' or 'last updated' to check/overview the latest installs/updates.
Secondly I also might occasionally use the app to find older apps that I am not using via use counter or install date.
Categories sorting is currently for me more than not just an extra layer between me and my apps, and I just prefer finding them via T9.
But I can also see the use for it for finding those rarely used apps, for which I don't remember the names anymore...that is the one scenario where I will definitely use categories approach. And I definitely support the idea of folders like You describe!
+If possible add the functionality to add/copy the whole folders from Jina directly to home screen
++and when those folders update in Jina, to auto update them on desktop, that would be a killer option IMHO D
( U see, I have one folder on my desktop for all the games, and when new are installed, It would be really cool, If I could put all the shortcuts for new ones in the desktop folder with one or two clicks only.)

About View sorting functionality;
I vote for faster 'one button' approach.
And every click on the button would change the current view for next in line.
Something to consider when optimizing design in the future..
Do you mean the the visual layout only or you think that i should intercept a "whitespace" when the user press the key 1?
I ask because right now the T9 search in Jina skips whitespaces, for example if you type S and O you will match both "Apps Organizer" and "Sonar".
If i add the first key and i treat as a "whitespace", to match the Apps Organizer you should press 3 keys: S, Whitespace and O

No white space, just the letter positions in T9...because that position is already programmed in our subcontinent from the past
Nice! :good:
