I have a DS with S-off running hboot 6.x. I applied the OTA (2.3.5 with Sense 3) and after the installation, I got stuck on the white screen with HTC logo even after waiting for more than 2 hours.
Running recovery never did anything to fix it. So I managed to run fastboot and updated it with the RUU (Asia 1.47.x version) through USB. I got my phone back and retried the OTA. Still got stuck at the white screen with HTC logo. I repeated this for about 5x with no luck.
Having the white screen with HTC logo, I decided to downgrade hboot. I got a version 0.98.x with S-on now. My problem is that I am still stuck at the white screen with HTC logo and my biggest problem is that whenever I try to use the RUU (same asian version), it gives me a signature error message. I couldn't install the RUU anymore nor I can boot my phone. What should I do?

In order to install a OTA, you must replace the custom recovery with the stock HTC recovery.

Thanks for your quick response. How exactly can I replace it with the stock HTC recovery? Can I do it even if my phone is stuck at the white screen with HTC logo?

Can you boot to the HBOOT screen? If so then you should be able to get into fastboot mode and flash a recovery.img file extracted from an official RUU/ROM.zip file using the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Yes, I can boot to hboot. Where can I get the recovery.img? The official RUU I have is an .exe file, and if I extract it, couldn't find the recovery.img file inside.
If I have the recovery.img, how can I install it?
Sorry, kinda newbie. Thanks for your quick response..

Search for how to extract the ROM.zip from a RUU. There is plenty of information. Once you get the ROM.zip file you will find the recovery.img in it.
Then you would flash it just like you did for CWM.

What's CWM? Do I need to copy the recovery.img in my SD card? Or just leave the recovery.img in my PC and let it run through USB?
By the way, why do you think that I got stuck on the white screen with HTC logo after the 2.3.5 OTA update in the first place?

The OTA didn't complete because you had S-Off using Revolutionary. A OTA can only be applied to a phone that has the original HBOOT and recovery image in place. The Revolutionary S-Off process replaced the original HBOOT with a modified one and the recovery image with ClockworkMod (CWM).
You leave the recovery.img file on your PC and boot into Fastboot mode and then enter the following command:
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
bro! i have exactly same problem here!
i can't install ruu as well as cannot connect to usb
so i have the same question is how to extract rom.zip

I will try it since my phone is not here with me yet, it's with the technician. Thanks a lot! I will update you the status when I try to get it.
Anyway, in my situation (phone won't update with .exe RUU file), do you think it will successfully flash recovery..img through fastboot recovery?

To get the ROM.zip:
1. Run RUU (.exe)
2. Don't continue with the RUU, just have it running, then go to windows explorer and search for ROM.ZIP in all the folders in your PC.
3. It would appear somewhere in a temporary folder, copy the ROM.zip file found.
4. Paste it in any folder.
5. Use Winzip or any compression program to extract the ROM.zip to a folder.
6. You will find the recovery.img there.

Hi,
I have same issue - can anyone help?

Hey everyone,
So I had a TWRP with stock 4.04 on my HTC One X ATT
I downloaded one of the 4.1.1 Stock ROMS posted today and tried to flash it in recovery. It said success and I rebooted.
This one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181399
It rebooted into a black screen and it's been stuck there since. Occasionally theres a white bar that flashes at the top.
If I hold down power + volume down, the capacitative buttons just flash several times and that's it.
Adb doesn't see my phone.
However, when I plug it in my PC recognizes it. It doesn't show it in my computer, but hardware manager shows "HTC One X"
I'm concerned it's permanently bricked.
Any advice?
what hboot are you on?
if it is higher then 1.09 you Need too s-off or Flash boot.img with fastboot
here is some help for adb and fastboot:

I have HBOOT 1.14.0002
How should I go about doing that?
I downloaded everything and I'm ready to go but I'm not sure of what's next
you need to unzip your Rom, in there is in file called boot.img
put the boot.img in the same Folder as adb and fastboot
then put the phone in bootloader and put in the usb
open cmd on your pc and go to the ADB Fastboot Folder
now put in this:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
if it's done reboot your phone.
the procedure is almost the same as flashing the recovery.
Works like a charm, thank you !
you're welcome

Try to find the executive file of ROM (.exe) and run it to reflash your phone from PC. That the way I did with my One X, hope that will help. Remember to relock the phone before flashing.

i tried it but it failed because of image version of the latest Rom Update Utility( 1.08.1400.6 ) which is lower than my phone image version(1.10.1400.1.).
maybe you can go to htc service center and get them flash it back for you, they won't charge you anything (in my country), just say you don't know what happen...

If you have the RUU.exe file (as you said), lets try :
- run the exe file.
- when the installation preperation process completed , keep the process wait there and find the temperature rom extracted somewhere in PC.
- copy the rom to other place.
- find the boot.img and recovery.img in firmware.zip file (in the zip rom that you just have)
- unlock your phone.
- press volume down + power to go to bootloader.
- connect phone to PC and use fastboot to flash boot.img file.
- continue to flash recovery.img
- relock the phone by fastboot oem lock
- flash rom.zip by fastboot.
Hope that could help. That is the way I did for my friend One X+.

So, the problem should be HBoot version, I guested. You may try to search and find if there are any solutions to re-install Hboot, otherwise, send your phone to HTC service center is last solution you should do.
Unbrick htc x920e
hi everyone i finally succeed to unbrick my htc butterfly. Thx for all the support u guys brought to this post.
This is how i did it:
1. boot in recovery mode and wipe eveything (factory reset, cache, dalvik-cache and system)
2. Flash any x920e custom rom :
In my case i couldnt mount the sdcard from the recovery so i select the option "Install zip from sideload " instead of "Install zip from sdcard" abd and i used ADB Toolkit GUI Shell (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800335) to flash the custom rom.
Once in sideload mode u can use this command to flash the custom rom:
Code:
adb sideload rom_name.zip
After the phone reboot it was still stucked at the boot logo so i proceeded to step 3
3.Reboot in bootloader and put the phone in "fastboot USB" mode
4. Open the custom rom zip file and extract the "boot.img"
5. Use the command shell to flash the extracted boot.img using this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
6.Reboot
I have a Sensation S that I was trying to install a custom rom onto. I messed it up a bit though. I unlocked it trough htcdev.com but never got S-off. I also didnt make a backup. So now I have this:
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT2.02.0002
RADIO-3831.19.00.110
eMMC-boot
And I'm getting nowhere. I am not able to install any roms (they all get error messages or just doesn't work) and I'm not able to install a RUU. I have tried taking the recover image from several RUUs, flashed them and then installed the RUUs after I locked the bootloader. No luck there so far. Innstall gets errors halfway trough.
I really need to fix this and I've been trying for 4-5 hours now. I really hope anyone has some solution to this. Right now I would be very happy just to be able to use my phone again no matter the rom.
Sensation S? You mean Desire S, right?
Download: http://www.4ext.net/ddl/saga/recovery.zip
Unpack the image.
Boot your phone into fastboot mode.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Leave fastboot mode, go to recovery.
What happens?

Now you can flash a ROM
I recommend ViperSaga: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1983604
After flashing the ROM, open up the zip on your computer, extract the boot.img, and flash it via fastboot.
So:
1. Wipe data/factory reset from within recovery
2. Flash the ROM (you can use adb to push it to your sdcard even while you're in recovery; e.g. adb push rom.zip /emmc/)
3. When done, reboot; immediately after pressing 'reboot' in your recovery hold down VOL- or you'll be stuck on the white HTC screen and have to wait until the battery runs dry
4. Go to fastboot
5. Extract the boot.img from the rom zip on your computer
6.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
7. Done
Hi,
If it failed several times after RUU and it got stuck on the HTC Logo screen and bootloader is accessible then please try the solution in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488672
Hope it might help and please leave feedback
I am hoping that I can find help out there. My phone will not load past the splash screen.
Over the last few days I have been trying to install a custom rom on my phone. I thought I was on the right track and now I have flashed it but it will not go past the splash screen. I would be grateful for any advice on how to get my phone back functioning. I would even be happy to have it back stock.
So my movements over the last few days have been as follows:
1) HTC DEV unlocked the bootloader
2) Used Hasoon2000's HTC Sensation 4G all-in-one to flash CWM.
3) Then the same tool to copy Prem Root onto the SD card and installed it via CWM.
4) Then used this post here to install JB Miui - http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/how-to-update-upgrade-miui.15424/
Then when I rebooted it is stuck on the Miui splash screen.
At every stage I felt like things worked well and now I have that sad feeling in my stomach because I have just realized how vital my phone is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did u flash boot.img after u flashed the rom? Did u full wipe before flashing the rom? Also with s-on users its recommended to use 4ext recovery and in recovery, enable smartflash.
Where can I find information about boot.img - so that is a no. I am installing 4ext now.

open rom.zip and search for the boot.img
probably it is located in the kernel folder
place it in the folder where you have adb and fastboot files
now boot your device to the bootloader and connect it to pc via usb(in the hboot screen it should say fastboot usb)
in the folder where you have adb and fastboot files open a cmd window and do this command
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then
fastboot reboot
done

Hello, I had a MIUI ROM and I flashed a new version , doing the wipes and flashing it, but after the reboot, I see the HTC logo and nathing else, only the black screen.
In my bootloader appears "unlocked", saga pvt ship s-on rl, hboot 2.00.0002.
I tried to flash others ROMs and it happens the same, black screen after the HTC logo.
Thank you.
Did u flash the boot.img after flashing the roms? Since ur s-on u need to flash a rom then boot straight into bootloader and flash the boot.img then reboot. The boot img is inside the rom zip.

The Linux / ubuntu method
I had the same problem and followed the advice of the previous post this is how I did it:
1. First I made sure the fastboot programme was in my home directory
2. Then using a compression program I extracted the boot.img file from the "cm-11-20141214-UNOFFICIAL-saga.zip" rom. I also extracted it to my home directory (same directory as the fastboot program)
3. After installing the Rom and Gapps on my phone via TeamWin Recovery I immediately rebooted into the bootloader. and selected fastboot
4.I connected the phone via usb cable to my laptop.
5.On my laptop I opened a terminal for commandline
6. I entered the following command:
"sudo /home/simon/fastboot flash boot boot.img"
After the flash was successful I rebooted and CM11 is now working. I suppose the windows meathod follows similar principles.
Or use fastboot adb on windows.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Free mobile app
I'm totally unable to make it works. I have the "waiting for device" message, I'm reading tutorials but nothing works.
