How many - HTC Inspire 4G

Of y'all have rooted yalls wife's (or whatever have you) phone? My wife is using an atrix right now and she loves it. I think if I root it (or attempt to lol) she will love it even more.
I'm thinking of switching phones with her tomorrow and trying to root it while she's at work as I have the day off.

You go, schunter1226!

Not only did I root my wife's Inspire, I made a test device out of it. Lol. In the end, she was greatful I got her off of that crappy stock AT&T rom.

Let me know how that goes. I have always wanted to root my wife's Atrix too.

Ill be working on it tomorrow.
She's not really into that kind of stuff but yeah, it'll be more of a test thing for me too lol.

Shame, shame. You guys got the Inspire and got your wifes the Atrix. My wife wouldn't have none of that. She made me get her the Inspire.

Well, my wife and I got the Captivate at the same time about a year ago. She is still hanging on to her captivate, even with the problems she's having with it and still on 2.1. I picked up a lightly used Inspire a few Weeks ago to have something new to play with and she said she was still content with her captivate. She won't let me root it, factory reset it, nothing except making sure it's plugged in every night. So, if your wives let you play with their phones, consider yourself lucky.

Yeah, my wife lets me play with hers.

I would play with hers too

My wife also has a atrix, there must be something with that. I have yet to root hers. Maybe ony next day off.

I rooted my wife's Inspire to get rid of the AT&T and HTC bloat.
It increased the battery life and runs a bit smoother.
It is still on the stock AT&T ROM (she likes sense).
She just uses the phone. She asks me every now and then if I want it to check for updates, etc.
I will say that the Inspire has been very steady, no problems with it at all. She got it to replace a Captivate.

Pretty sure my wife would have a conniption fit if I tried to do anything to her phone! She has seen what I do to our computer with all of the different Linux distro's and I don't think she would want me to do that to her phone!

Rooted her phone, spent a lot of time tweaking it, pissed her off, then she was happy after she seen all the goodies.
Then about a day after she got settled in with it, she came home and whipped out a brand new SII (she ttold me she didn't want to use her upgrade because she loved her atrix too much). I'm sorta jealous, that was her goal lol. Oh and she wont let me touch it.

Rooted
I rooted my wife's...
I also work on her phone!!

Ha my wife's got an iPhone that she won't let me touch. And I can't get her interested in Android...something must be wrong with her Any way I can trade? Lol

yea my gf says she doesnt want a smartphone or anything like it...but damn is she always using mine to play games or use other apps or the web browser.
since my job did lay offs i may not get a new phone for a little while, but her upgrade will be waiting for me when im ready

Good news guys. Looks like the G2 has been cracked!

Why is this good news? Now that the G2 can get permanent root, it may not be long till we see root for the MyTouch 4G. God I hope this is the case!
Might want to link up where they stated it for the G2 (stated here)
hopefully this will come to the MT4G soon.... can't wait to take out the bloatware
Not sure if im going to root the mt4g. Rooted the rest of my past phones only because the stock Rom suxs. This phone is pretty nice and fast as is. But I'm sure that the itch to root will come to play later on...

Unless TMo is able to cut off tethering through their ROM (Nov 14???) - than that alone would be a reason to load a custom ROM.
Removing bloatware and free teathering is all I need. The fine does everything else by its self fine.

I love this phone the way it is as well, bloatware needs to go. Only thing I'm really thinking is gingerbread.
does that mean we are next considering the lock is similar to the G2

IP4 to captivate, to inspire, to infuse

Got my infuse today, still in the box, i'll break it out tonight once the kids settle down and watch spongebob lol. I like the inspire, but I flashed it so many time I rendered my gps completely useless. It won't find a single satellite in the sky. Something went wrong with the hardware or something. Even flashed the inspire back to unrooted stock, and re flashed stock radio and gps is still dead.
So I see infuse already has a one click root, and I should be able to restore apps from titanium. I hope I like it, I paid full price. $642 with tax, 3 months after buying inspire. I like big phones with big screens, so we'll see

aside from less development it wont have the shortcomings of the captivate. you will like it if you like the captivate and the inspire. also the samsungs still have unlocked bootloaders and are not nand locked so if you know anything about the captivate and inspire this should be a piece of cake to mod.
Rooted in 3 minutes. Done.

Any past G1 owners...

ever get that pang of nostalgia when you see a G1? My poor G1 was run over early last year and I've missed her ever since. I was browsing craigslist the other day and saw a bunch for sale and almost bought one just so I could have it again. Not that it would ever be used but just for old times sake haha.
Just replaced my G1 a few weeks ago with the G2x. Still own the G1, but haven't looked back at all due to how amazing the G2x is
Funny, I just saw one at the airport yesterday and I did smile.
That's how I feel about my N1 ... its just sitting on my counter not being used but I can't bring myself to sell it. Lol

I have one I use all the time. I got Super D running on it, the battery life is great and I put my sim card in it when I am on my motorcycle or doing something that my phone might be in danger, or need the extra battery life.

I was hesitant to sell my G1, but I sold it to a very close friend so I knew it would be well taken care of. it was never warranty replaced or fixed, and I got it on week one of the launch date and it still works today from what I'm told. Today he rocks a G2.

I'm still using my G1 haha. It's screen cracked 1.5 years ago, but it still works fine. Some for the keys are hard to press, and it's a bit slowed down, but it's still kicking! I had the G2X but returned it a couple weeks ago to get a better deal on it. Now I'm thinking about waiting for Gingerbread before repurchasing.
I had a g1 at launch, then moved to the n1 when that hit. I miss both.

I'm going to buy me a g1 again just to have I loved my keyboard I was competing against the since way back then lol

My G1 was the longest I've ever had a phone. Bought it shortly after launch and kept it until a year ago. I had no thoughts of upgrading at all until she was run over. It was just so... opposite aesthetically of what we look for in a mobile device. It was this huge brown block with a Jay Leno chin and weirdly designed hinge but I loved it.
I had my G1 ever since the 1st day of release from T-Mobile. This is the longest phone I've too. I've CM 6.0 and it really does show it's age. At some point I tell myself I'll break it into two (2) pieces when I get new phone. It's so slow I even having problem loading my map. However, my wife's BB pearl 8100 broke so she saved it's life.

Lmao, that was a good description. I recently sold my G1 and I do miss it. It was built like a tank too.

Amen to that. I don't know how many times my g1 took a spill across concrete. And yet its still there on my dresser like a soldier, my wife wanted to give it to her brother but I told her she was crazy. That's the father of android , you treat it with respect!!!

I got the G1 on launch day and to this day I still say it has the best keyboard on a cell phone ever. The spacing I used to burn through text messages and emails no problemo. I did end up getting an N1 via Clist and I love my N1 just as much as my G1. I will never sale either of them. Once LG fixes their G2x issues then I will make the jump and my N1 will sit at the base of my monitor so it won't be forgotten. Ever so often I will boot it up and load the latest Cyanogen on there smile at it and then turn it back off.
Agree with all of you here, I got an iPhone the first month it was out, then later ditched it for a G1 because it was more hackable and had the best keyboard I've ever used on a phone. Early on with Cupcake it was horrible compared to the iPhone, but Android got better so fast that I never looked back. And even with Cupcake it still did things the iPhone couldn't at the time, like stereo bluetooth.
Other than the lack of a physical keyboard I'm loving the G2x though. But think I'll keep my G1, and see if I can get Arch Linux running on it.

I just upgraded from my old G1 to my new G2X this past sunday. The difference is night and day for sure. I still have the G1 sitting next to me to compare with, and while I loved that phone, I don't think I could go back!

I still have my g1, I upgraded from my G1 to the G2x on launch day, but I still keep it since its quite personal and has a lot of useful apps on it
Wel... I mainly use it for an alarm now. Battery lasts a long time when it doesn't need to look for any network connection. I'm going to keep it because it is the first android phone.
I'd still have mine if it wernt for crazy Las Vegas, Check sig... I do love my G2x though, just wish it has a querty keyboard, touch screen only blows.
The g1 was definitely an awesome phone. I had mine from week of release till the day of g2x release. It was overclocked, had sdext partition, and cm6. Gave it to my father. Its his first smart phone. He enjoys it now. Although it still works fine, I may replace the housing. I took that tphone to hell and back and it still lives on. O I do miss the trackball and keyboard though.

On my first g2x, living it with barely any problems

Before I got the g2x,i had the hd2,5 in a month, got it replaced with the vibrant the day it came out, loved it, after a few months it acted up on me, got a replacement, rooted it and deleted the bloatware, lol a few months later I dropped it and it then went to hell...camera stored working, wouldn't connect to my computer through usb, then it started messing with my sd card....
I had insurance in it but 130 for a cell that cost me almost the same price wasnt worth it, got me a mytouch 4g, hated it,2 weeks later a g2, hated it, finally got the g2x and I feel in love with it,i was first hesitant about getting it because if the problems I read it had, but after I got it, the only real problem I had was the response time from either using swype or waiting for a web page to open up sometimes...and the bloatware that runs in the background...I'm keeping this cell until the galaxy 2 comes over for tmobile, until then, how can I root my g2x without bricking it and whats the best roms for it? also tell me what problems have you had and what did you do to correct it

[Q] hows the Inspire .?

sprint has finally pissed me off to the point im REALLY looking to jump ship . and i get a really good deal on 4 phones and would save about 60 a month over what im paying atm with sprint .
data cap is not a problem since im on wifi mostly
so im asking how easy is the phone to root ? hows the rom's and CM7 ?
thanks for any advice
Love the Inspire(of course people here are biased though) the roms are definitely pretty good, CM7 has been my main one forever, it runs great, gets great battery, and is really just good quality in general. But with all the good stuff i have to say about the phone, I HATE AT&T with a passion after all of my experiences with them since I got this phone. The rooting process is easy, I highly recommend the phone, but AT&T is horrible and I would never recommend them to anyone. EVER.

thanks for the info
I love the phone. Its super fast, once rooted. I can't really tell you how easy it is to root as I didn't use the hack kit. Only bubby's and If the phone is new it'll have the gingerbread update and you'll have to use the hack kit. I read its about the same. Plan alot of reading and then half hour to root.
I been with ATT for about 7 years. The dude above most have some wierd personal issues cause in 7 years I have had to talk to ATT maybe 3 times and when I did I got exactly what i wanted. Last time I got a free Iphone 4.... I find them to be a good company. My Only issue is sometimes text messages take 20 minutes to arrive......By the time I or the wife get them I am standing next to her. Lol but even that doesn't happen all the time.

Same here. I've been with ATT going on 7 years and have had no problems. When I've had to call cs I haven't had any issues. As for the Inspire its great. It was my first android and was able to root it my first try with bubbys method. I'm currently on the virtuous unity beta even though the final build is out cause its that smooth.

The other guys are probably right, AT&T isn't as bad as I make them sound, I've just grown to hate them after countless hours on the phone with them. Granted most of my problems have actually been with my TV/internet services, although I did have a few issues with updates when I got the Inspire but I think they have that sorted out now. I'm mostly just bitter about my "4g" being slower than the 3g my sister gets on her Incredible and how horrible Uverse has been for me.
Switch to Inspire you'll love it.
I previously owned the iPhone 3GS, and one day i saw this phone at best buy for free and said screw it ill switch. I switched, and ill NEVER go back to Apple, or any other brand of phones other then HTC. Unless Apple drops their dumb restricts and creates something REALLY REALLY amazing.
you'll love this phone.
I love mine. Got it off eBay for cheap used, has a dark spot behind the LCD but doesn't affect anything. But long story short I love it. Master has a mt4g and have to say if I where to pick the inspire would come in first hands down . You cant really go wrong for the price it's going at att, you have a 8mp camera, duel flash, enough ram on board and about 1gig memory. CM7 is awesome on it, same goes for the Miui roms and if you like sense unlike me you'll enjoy the great selection of sense roms

Ya no probs with at&t either, and love love my phone.
I too used bubbys, and it was hecka easy. If you ever wonder about htc, check out some videos on their testing process, it will amaze you the things they put their phones through. They test the heck outta them.
And ninjas rom is amazing, right now 22 hours since last charge, and 65% still left on my battery. Freekin love it.

I love my inspire 4G. And think I was about to get an atrix over this? Haha! I should slap myself! I too have been with at&t for a long time. They always solve all of my issues. Never had a problem with them.
