[Q] WIFI hotspot with Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 - HTC Sensation

I have [ROM][ICS][BETA][12/25/11] Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 :: Senseless ICS (4.0.1)
Which is pretty awesome so far for a beta, I can't get wifi hotspot to work, i need the Network SSID, I am on vodafone Uk contract if that helps.

you can name the ssid anything you like, its just a name to enable you to identify it in the list of available connections that displays on your pc. the pc however always seems to detect the ssid as 'HTC Mobile Hotspot' regardless.
couldn't connect anyhow as the pc always throws out a 'Security Key Mismatch Error'.
i suspect the functions not working properly yet but let us know if you manage to connect.

I know EXACTLY what's happening. If you see in the settings, you can rename your SSID but that parameter is not passed to the "activate" checkbox. I think that value (and the password) simply doesn't get read from the OS, so the name of the hotspot is still "HTC Hotspost... something".
Since I don't know the default password, I can't use it, but fixing the bug should be pretty easy.

cool, lets hope there's a fix fairly soon.

WiFi internet issue on WM6

I`ve got a T-Mobile MDA with WM6 and I cannot access the internet through WiFi. The access point that I connect to is working cause I am able to access the net fine on my laptop. I made sure that my network cards are set to connecte to the internet. I even did a softreset after I made the changes.
My internet explorer just sits there on locating. I am not sure if its just my WiFi card configured incorrectly within WM6 or if its a reg setting that isn't set right.
If anyone had this issue before and got it fixed let me know or give me some direction to start.. thanks in advance for your help.
This is a fairly common problem. For me disabling the Wireless G option in the registry did the trick:
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG
Value: 1
so I diabled it, soft restet, verified that the reg change sticked, which it did. I tried to access the net again with no go.
me too
I have the exact same problem.
Not much discussion about this
I tried the G fix. Didn't work. Funny thing. It started when I installed MB. Downgrading DIDN'T fix it.
Try setting the the Network Card to connect to "The Internet" instead of "Work"
they are set to that..
That actually worked for me. (The Internet instead of work fix) I also made sure that all the boxes for "Server assigned IP address were checked. I could have sworn I tried that already. I wonder if it will stay "fixed". I'm due for a soft reset...seems to be working. I've been thinking all along it was some stupid setting.

check the change your dns to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 this may fix your problem

Changing to Internet and setting the DNS doesn't seem to help. Funny thing is, GMail via Midlet Manager seems to work (maybe its doing GPRS?). But IE just spins at Locating...
wifi internet issue on wm6
although i have the older version of t-mobiles' mda (wm5), i had similar issues connecting to the net even it sees a lot of wireless aps. either i cannot hold a steady connection or cannot connect at all. the solution i had was changing the channel on my wireless ap and updating my mda's parameters for my local wireless security. now i can go to the web using my mda even with poor signal quality. It is possible that you have several wireless ap's at your location sharing the same channel. hopefully changing the channel solves your problem.
simple possible solution, but check the proxy settings? I know with cingular, many people had trouble browsing the internet due to the MediaNet proxy settings. they removed the proxy settings and everything was fine then.
There is a known issue with your rom your running...there has been a new release. check the MB thread and you will see a recent listing about a 6 and 4 mb page pool, the wifi has been fixed.

I have the original MB edition and I do not have any wireless problems. I know he had to fix the re-released versions as the wifi did not work with them initially, but I was unaware of a wifi problem with the initial release.
WIFI problem don't even see networks
Hey everybody, still loving this phone and its diversity, but have flashed this little piece of hardware with the mb 4mb/6mb wm6 rom only to find that WIFI can't even be turned on!. And yes I've downed the fixed versions from a certain forum. When I turn on WIFI, It just gives the symbol in the top straight away. It just can't find the networks. I even manually added a network, it then tries to find it, but simply can't. WEIRD hey.
Is there a solution for this problem, cause I really, like the look and feel of the wm6 roms over the wm5 roms.
bye all and thanks in advance for the kind replies.
Did you try using WiFiFoFum at all to see if it can find networks? I have not had any issues with WiFi with the Most Beautiful edition whatsoever. Only thing I notice is that when the machine first turns on or right after a soft reset that I need to click the comm manager icon for wifi twice before wifi will turn on. Otherwise it finds and connects to networks perfect.
Problem with MIE
i have no problem to connect to my homenetwork with WIFI, but i cannot access the internet with the internet explorer. but it works perfect with the opera browser!
hmmm..
It's weird...
I never access the internet with the internet explorer even my wifi was connected successfully while I brushed wm6 rom.
A miracle has happened Today.
I install a WIFI Device for WM5, that one is simple Chinese language.
I tried to turn on the wifi but not work.
Then I uninstall it -> restar....
Then I tried one more time to turn on wifi, ok, it's work to connect but still can't open the web page.
I check the wireless lan, switch the power save mode to best performance.
Then....I can open web page????
Wow~~ I don't know it work cause the wifi device change something or just swtich to best performance.
Maybe you guys can try.
(Sorry to reading my poor English)

Same exact issue. Pocket IE doesn't work, Opera does. Did you figure it out or get it corrected yet?
oops, double-posted

[Q] WPA Enterprise with PEAP and MSCHAPV2 Using wpa_supplicant.conf

As a point of reference, I am using a rooted HTC G2 running GingerVillain 1.5.
I have been trying to manually connect to my University's wifi (UT of Arlington if it's any help) The Xpress connect app they recommend does not work as it does not detect the network or something or rather. I don't want to mess with it anymore as it would be better to have the settings OS based than app based unless there is no other way.
So, I tried to set it up manually according to what my computer had set up: PEAP with MSCHAPV2. Android only offered "none specified" for user or CA certificates. It acts like it is going to connect, then promptly disconnects.
I think my problem is similar to this topic which was resolved: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576407
However, whenever I pull wpa_supplicant.conf and change anything, Wi-Fi won't start on the phone. Is there something else I need to do to get a modified one to work? I'll probably still have to play with some settings to get it to actually work with my university.
Ok, I found this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692254 which fixes the wifi crash when rebooting after modifying wpa_supplicant.conf I'll have to see if I can get the network to work next time I can go to school.

[Q] WiFi Tether App Not Broadcasting

Hey guys,
So over the weekend I hacked my original Droid and put Cyanogenmod 7 on it (the stable one). Now I'm trying to get the WiFi Tether app working. I downloaded and installed the WiFi Tether beta found off the Google site (I can't post a direct link since I dont have the 8 post requirement). I set up the SSID name and a WEP password, but it's not broadcasting. Neither me nor my roommate can see it. I even tried connecting to it manually through my laptop just incase the SSID wasn't being broadcasted for whatever reason, but no luck there. I looked through the settings and it literally looks like there isn't much to set up. I was wondering why this is happening? I'm rooted.
When I pressed edit under the menu, then under settings and selected "(Re)-Install binaries/configs", I received the following error: "Couldn't install file - /data/data/com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether/bin/dnsmasq!" I fixed it by stopping the tether and then clicking it again, it said the install was successful. I'm on a Windows 7 machine, my roommate is on a Mac. Neither of us could see the SSID being broadcast even after I installed the binaries/configs.
Someone recommended I try Barnacle. I did, and same result. No errors or red flags, says it's broadcasting, and neither of us can see it. I hardly doubt this is an operating system issue, I believe something's not going right in the apps.

[Q] Won't reconnect manual network without SSID broadcast?

So the S3 has known WiFi issues, but mine seems to have none of the issues I've read about thus far. It does have one irritating thing that has been driving me crazy for the longest time. If I ever move outside of the range of my network, reboot, or etc such that the WiFi has to be reestablished, it will decide that my network is "out of range" even though the signal is well within an acceptable minimum (it's a tad bit weak, but, once established it holds extremely steady pretty much no matter what I'm doing.) If I remove and re-add the network settings it works perfectly, again with a stable signal and perfect speeds until the next time I move out of range or reboot.
For now I've reenabled SSID broadcast, but I really liked the idea of having it off as it's a ridiculously simple yet strikingly effective security mechanism (I like the "security through obscurity" methods when I can -- especially since I'm having to use the old WEP encryption protocol to support some older devices, though I'm just about ready just to give up on them at this point. Even the best hacker in the world couldn't get into my network if (s)he never actually made any attempt to do so in the first place.) With SSID enabled, it has no troubles picking up my network every time, it just won't automatically pick it up without it.
Is this just an issue with the software itself or something? Anything that can be fixed from the user side, or is it something that can only be fixed by an update to the OS or related software itself? (But then with 4.1 coming soon supposedly I'm kind of hoping that if it is an issue with the software that would fix it. Still, that's a while away at least and this is assuming their plans aren't messed up with this whole lawsuit business causing them so many problems right now.)
If you have SSID broadcast disabled, how do you expect your phone to recognize the network? I can see how it would work if you enable SSID, connect to your network then disable it again, but it's not going magically reconnect with SSID disabled, its not logical seeing your SSID is what makes it possible for your phone to find your network.

Wep sucks ofcourse but how about just setting up a mac addy auth to give another layer of security and enable ur ssid
Sent from my SCH-I535
I do use MAC address filtering if that's what you mean. While it might stop a script kiddie, I don't have a huge amount of confidence in it. MAC address spoofing is so pitifully easy than with computer equipment at least you usually are even presented with a configuration option that lets you specifically change the MAC address to anything you want. I'm definitely sticking with it because, well, there's absolutely no reason not to, but I actually have less confidence in MAC address filtering to stop anyone than disabled SSID broadcasting because anyone actually actively trying to break in should pretty much immediately bypass that particular mechanism right off.

ALL other devices are smart enough to search for a manually configured network if they actually know the SSID to search for. My Roku, my Android 2.2 "Internet Tablet" (basically a PDA) by Archos, my Nintendo DS (this is the main thing holding me back at WEP, and as ancient and pitiful as its networking is, even IT can connect on its own without making me manually recreate the settings every time!) and my EeePC running Windows XP without any software to manage the WiFi settings except the built-in Windows thing.

hidden ssid enabler will solve this problem. it works great for me. follow the directions in comments of play store though.
You know, I do believe that did actually solve the problem. I guess more testing is needed, but in my initial test it seems to have worked just fine with the SSID broadcast set to hidden again (I even rebooted the router and phone both just to be sure the settings fully took.)
It still strikes me as being a bit dumb that my ancient Nintendo DS that can't even handle WPA can handle a non-broadcast SSID and my previous Android PDA could as well, yet this Android phone couldn't out of the box...

[Q] deprioritizing network blocks in wpa_supplicant; scans forever

I have a hacked device that runs android 2.2
fyi sony reader prs t1.
adb allowed me to fix a wifi encryption setting problem which plagued many other official phones, by editing wpa_supplicant.conf
So now, when I'm in range of that hotspot (office), the network{} block is set right in wpa_supplicant.conf, with priority=2 against my home network priority=1.
But, when I'm at home, it does not connect.
Others have thought it's an issue with setting wireless standbye.
My testing controls for this. With standard wpa_supplicant.conf that is missing this hi security network block, the device scans and reveals all local networks and lets me pick.
With my custom wpa_supplicant.conf, it scans forever and never connects and never even shows a list of local wifi hotspots.
So, it's obviously waiting to discover that far away network, instead of listing it as "out of range".
This only happens after I reboot. If I load an empty wpa_supplicant.conf, turn off and on the wifi, then the local networks come up.
If I then load the custom wpa_supplicant.conf, cycle the wifi, again all shows up as it should.
Upon reboot with the custom conf file, just scans forever.
So, is there a way that I can tell wpa_supplicant to relax or ignore that custom network block entry, if it can't see it?
I want to use my device with the custom wpa_supplicant.conf loaded, everywhere. Not to come home, replace the custom wpa config with an empty one and then put back the custom the config before I go to the office.
