SD Card Support - HTC Glacier (MT4G, Panache) - myTouch 4G General

Hi Everyone,
Recently, I've been using a variety of different MicroSD Cards in my HTC Glacier. I've been trying to figure out which cards will will operate in the phone and to what degree.
I have observed some problems on a Class 10 card that I have used. I think it would be great if we had a list that could be easily referenced.
Below I've specified a basic format that is easy for posting. As information is gathered, the format can be updated accordingly.
SD Card Compatability Summary:
Brand / Class / Operational / Speed Limitations / Image Flashing Limitations
Samsung / Class 2 / Yes / Full Speed / None
SanDisk / Class 4 / Yes / Full Speed / None
Lexar / Class 10 / Yes / USB & LAN Transfer Rates affected by incompatible reads / Cannot detect PD15IMG.zip files.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide some information about the cards they have used.

Hello,
How are you measuring the card speed?
I tested a SanDisk class 4 (original sdcard) and now I am using a Kingston class 4 (32go).
Sent from my HTC Panache / CM7 using xda premium.

Patriot / Class 10 / Yes / Full Speed / None
Might want to include the part number and size, assuming you actually get the card you payed for ... and I agree you would need some uniformity in test tools. No problems with mine after a couple of months ...

32 GB Class 10 microSDHC cards tested in the Sensation

Hi, just thought I'd create a thread for people buying the HTC Sensation, but also intend to buy a 32GB microSDHC.I will probably get a Class 10 type myself, but if anyone can link to lower class cards that out perform's Lexar's Class 10 card I, and others will be interested.
Please can we ignore any unknown brand cards, and anything relating to eBay. - As we know likely to be fake.
I found this card and if you have tried it, or are going to try it I will be interested in knowing how well it performs. As I intend to buy it for my new phone in a few weeks time.
£40...http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase10.5&prodID=2106472
What class is that card? It mentions class 10 in the description which is confusing, but that price is awesome if it is a class 10. In fact it's pretty good for a class 2 card!
[edit] just looked closer at that card and it is a class 10. wow!
That's either a misprice or a fake. No way should it be that cheap. Even on ebay those are nearly double the price....from HK!!
Anyone ordered one yet?
Legit company. Checkout 32gb card thread in galaxy s2 accessories thread.
Apparently no stock though. I googled the manufacturer number and it relates to Class 10.
You know something, I wonder if they have put a cheap price up just to drive alot of web traffic to his website. Maybe permanently out of stock. Will ring them tomorrow to find out.

I upgraded from a 16GB Sandisk "ultra" to Lexar 32GB class 10, I noticed a huge speed increase, now the photo gallery loads pictures much faster than before, copying files is faster and nandroid backup is MUCH faster (over 1GB data to backup)
I don't know if Lexar is the fastest but for the price and performance it's very good.
When you consider sandisk extreme class 10 normal sd,can write 20 or 30mb/sec it is quite slow, for a class 10, but beggars cant be choosers, and its fairly new tech for microsdhc i guess. UFS-I looks ace. Theres a toshiba 16gb microsdhc that does 20mb write. Can people find out if the Sensation is UFS-I conpatible? Bet price is significantly dearer though.

As a photographer I’ve been using Lexar cards for many years and find them very fast, solid and reliable.
I will be getting one to put into my SENSATION, once it is released in the UK (just in time for my June upgrade yipee).
may still keep my HD2 and load up lots of ROMs……or……£130 to sell it on line to the recycling dudes.

Ok, this kind of breaks or rather smashes the price barrier.
Anyone have any dealings with this Guernsey company?

Cheapest is now unbranded for £44.99 for 32GB Class 2. I'd still go for the 32GB Class 10 Lexar from play.com for £68.99, personally.

Yes, I've used them quite a few times in the past. Whenever there's been a problem (2 cards were not delivered even though they were apparently dispatched) they have sorted it out quickly and efficiently with just a single email.
I'd certainly recommend them.
SanDisk 32GB Class 2
Kingston 32GB Class 4
Patriot 32GB Class 10
^ tested all 3 of this and stayed with the last one. For the price and size/speed thats the best. As I don't trust ADATA nor WINTEC along with Lexer. So if anyone interested seriously look in to it.

As I have owned and tested SanDisk 32GB Class 2 and Kingston 32GB Class 4 and now Patriot LX 32GB Class 10. I can safely say this is by far the fastest card I used and not only does it meets the minimum class requirement but it exceeds it with flying colors. I have placed benchmark at the bottom so others who is thinking about buying this card can view it to make better decisions. For the price I give this card 7/10 and for speed 10/10, but thats far as I would go to defend this card.

if you apply the ahead read buffer hack then you will get even higher read speed.

Well put it this way. I used a class 4 8gb microsd in my new 16MP camera. It took several seconds to write 1 photo. Granted cpu will be alot slower but still surprisingly slow. Id save for class 10 in long run. I got my Patriot 32gb from memoryc.com good price for a real card.

micro sdhc: is class 10 fully usable?!?

well,
hope my sensation will be here in a few days. so im just searching my equip for it
for sure i want a 32gb micro sdhc card
my question: ist calss10 really usable IN the edvice? read in few threads that in special szenarios (usb 3.0, internal sd slot,...) u really get theses high data rates.
same inside the device? maybe someone can compare a copy action with about 100 mp3s and one with one large avi file one time with the packaged class 4 card and one time with a class 10 card.
as said with the card IN THE DEVICE not in a reader or something like this.
last as allready mentioned in another thread: do you know mustang cards? i know they are quite new but sounds ok. any one can say anything about them?
I hope the Sensation can take advantage of fast SDHC cards, I was looking at the SGS2 forum earlier today and they had a long thread benchmarking different Class 10 cards.
Even if it doesn't say it does in the specification can anybody please test out the read/write speeds if they have a Class 10 card on hand.
My Hero wasn't supposed to be able to read anything faster than a Class 4 but when i put a Class 6 the transfer rates were around the 7-8Mb/s mark so I'm sure HTC will have improved this in the Sensation!
I'll point you ladies/gentlemen over the the post in the Accessories subforum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072839
The class 10 sd card is pretty nice, but it seems that it can't be found in China.
I am using sandisk 16G class4, and I think class 4 may be fast enough for phones.

[Q] SD Card class 2?

Hi!
Is it stupid to buy a SanDisk class 2 SDCH card for my Sensation? Or does it not matter as long as it is SDHC?
I realy don't want a slow card this time and this new sensation maybe handles faster ones than my old HD2 did....
Please help to buy the right card
stick with a MINIMUM of class 4.
The classification of card is how fast the card reads and writes. This will help you understand....
http://dcom.me/iS9nz
I would go with class 10, for write and read speeds if you plan on watching movies or putting alot of content on the card, usually the bigger the card the higher the class you want...I have a 16gb class 2 and got a class 10 instead because it would lag loading all mp3's and photos
I have a Class 2 32GB Sandisk card in my SGSII, its fine for recording and decoding 1080p video, I suspect the same will be true of the Sensation (can confirm later, my Sensation should be with me later today).
If the budget is less of an issue then obviously you're better off with a faster card (not in terms of in-phone performance, but certainly for PC-card transfers).
Amazon has 8gb class 10 for like $20

Found class 2 ultra....
Hi!
I've found a SanDisk 16GB Class 2 Ultra .... is it ok? What does the ultra stand for... higher speed something....
Can you compare class 2 ultra with a pure class 4?
You can't go wrong with Class 10 just to be safe. I got a 16GB class 10 at Fry's for around $45.

Dont get a class 2 card......
I bought a 32GB Class 10 card. I bought this one.
The card needs special formatting in order for it to work in an Android phone properly. Otherwise it gets data corruption and eventually unreadable. Those instructions can be found here.
Once I did that it has worked flawlessly. No issues, fast data transfer and about 28.9GB of usable space. There are other Class 10 cards out there but I've seen issues reported on all of them. They may just need the same style formatting as this one.
DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT get less than a class 2 card. You will regret the time it takes to transfer files back and fourth and personally I don't recommend anything slower than a class 6. Here are some 16GB Class 6 cards for fairly cheap prices.

No, its vendor specific. Patriot cards are known to have issues on android.
Anyways, to your original question, anything but card capacity and class is irrelevant. The ultra is a marketing gimmick, nothing more.

Memory Card - Minimum Class/Speed?

As I understand it, the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G will accept a maximum 32GB card.
What, precisely, to I want to seek out (speed rating - 4? 6? 10?) and what do I want to avoid (I know some of the SDHC cards have different standards).
I would like to go up to a 16GB card. I am looking at Class 10 speed since that seems to carry a minor cost increase vs. 6 or 4. I want to stick with a name brand such as Kingston.
Am I on the right track?
Thank you for any help.

I'm using this and I get around 9.5-10.3 write speed, and around 22 read speed.
Thank you for the reply !
install this on your sensation and your read speed will increase. it says it only works for rooted devices but I tried installing on mine and it increased the speed especially the loading of videos and photos in gallery. Im not sure if it installed or not because I can't find the sd booster icon anywhere but it definitely speed up the read speed.

I have had some issues with SD cards in my phone, I emailed HTC support and they replied stating the following "Bill, your device is compatible with the SD 2.0 standard, i.e., it can theoretically read and write to microSD cards up to 32 GB.
Please verify the class of the 32 GB card you purchased. Our devices read and write to storage cards at Class 2 speeds. Although Class 4 SD cards will normally function in these devices, they may not recognize Class 6 or Class 8 cards."
Personally I wouldnt put in anything less than a class 10 so I get the fastest transfer speed while loading up music etc.

I'm personally rocking an ADATA 16GB Class 10 from newegg
This area is a minefield. I personally have a class 10 32GB card but in hindsight, a class 4 or 6 would have done.
Generally most card have a higher read speed than write speed, which makes the "class" rating useless. For most users, read speed is most important . Very few devices require class 10 write speeds (with the exception of professional class cameras). You need to avoid class 2 but otherwise you can only go wrong by buying knock off cards from eBay.

Just got this ADATA 16Gb Class 6, currently $29, free shipping:

Ran a SD test and it's getting 10.6MB/sec write, and 18MB/sec read.
Edit: link to wrong card before.
I got that the class determine the speed like :
Class Speed
2 2 MB/sec
4 4 MB/sec
6 6 MB/sec
etc.
So, this means data rate

I attended a training held by htc for the sensation and they said the phone would work with a class 2 although it is highly suggested to use class 4 or higher. The reason being is that if you are recording video at 1080p a class 2 card will have errors since it cannot write fast enough. I am currently using a SanDisk class 4 32gb card with no errors.

[Q] What is the a good microSDHC card for a2sd?

I just bought an old HTC Desire Bravo and flashed it (very happy with the results: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205516).
I'ts my first Android phone and because of the storage limitations for apps i'm interested to use a2sd (comes with the rom).
I'm looking for a good sd card to put into my phone and i know that the class 2 and 4 cards are supposed to be the best cards for random access (which is important for a2sd).
Is it realy not usefull to get a class 10 card?
can you recommend a card?
