Maybe it's a alraedy posted question but didn't find.
Since i'm usong android saw that all ROM are flashed using update.zip, why are we still usong odin or system.img to flash ROM??
Thx in advance

Because its less convenient. Well kinda. If you use update.zip to flash oxygen rom/cyanogen/miui, for me I don't need to have a specific rom, just any gb rom. But if you want a custom rom, you need to have the base, for example dxkp99 base or xxkpq base in my case before flashing the rom.
Cheers

I have stock rom and trinity kernel, can i get OTA working?
you won't be able to install it regularly because you changed the kernel, but you can always flash a full 2.3.6 rom through cwm. i'm pretty sure you'll be put back on stock kernel though

extract the boot.img from a stock rom and flash it via the terminal emulator app or via fastboot. theres always the chance that the stock kernel wont run on whatever rom that youre using. if so, just reflash the rom.
I've got a link to a stock kernel somewhere, which you can flash via cwm recovery. I'll see if i can dig it up.

Hello Guys,
I've got a few questions about upgreading my custom 2.3.4 to ICS.
Atm I'm using custom rom Cranium 3.1 based on XXKPH, with kernel 2.6.35.7-CL467143 [email protected] #1.
What should I do now, to get ICS on my SL.
1. Changing on stock rom ? If yes, then which one?
2. What with kernel ?
Thanks.
It doesnt maatters that which rom r u currently on but be on latest gb rom with cf root to be on safer side.
Then download cm9 zip from the respective thread then follow the instructions to install it on that thread.
Keep in mind its not completely bug free but still it is quite usable.

1. No need to change to stock rom if you just want to switch to ics, of your phone is rooted and had clock work mod, then you just need to flash any custom ics rom like remics, cm9 etc.
Then you can even change the kernel to vurrut or arindam or dhiru etc.
Firstly to consider, you're on kph. to have a stable base band, either flash kpq or kpu.
Follow this order
Xxkpe>xxkpu/kpq>root with bagaria.tar> ics rom> kernel(optional).
Search among the stickies on android development.

Hi, can somebody tell me where can I find a Stock KERNEL for Gingerbread 2.3.5 for a Samsung Galaxy R i9103?
I need to set my phone to completly original settings. So I've already downgraded it from ICS to Gingerbread 2.3.5 Stock ROM by the use of an infected GB Kernel which I found here in the forum. I though the Stock ROM would overwrite the infected Kernel to the original one but it didn't happend. And I just can't find an original stock kernel for my phone. Can somebody help me please?
Maybe you could download a stock ROM from sammobile and flash it with Odin.

Just flash the Stock ROM through ODIN it will automatically replace the kernel with stock one...

Have anybody seen that Finally we have Q/A thread for our Galaxy R...??
I'm using catacylsm rom+franco kernel
If I want to flash another rom, do I need to flash back to catacylsm's kernel and flash the new rom?
Thanks!
Hi,
No, no need to flash back the stock kernel before (or the one from Cataclysm rom). Since you'll flash another rom you do a full wipe (clean flash), it will be enough.
