Accelerometer not working in all apps anymore - HTC Sensation

My accelerometer stopped working in some apps. I have Elixir & it shows that the accelerometer is outputting data, & if I use my camera it can sense whether it's in portrait or landscape, yet if I pull up my browser, messaging app, or gallery it won't switch orientation.
What the hell is wrong & how can I fix it?

Mine started thus today in the browser, thought nothing of it until my browser assumes the phone to be upside down and refusing to change it's orientation, how odd.
I'm currently on RCMix 1.0 ics build. Prob gonna reflash later or go back to gb build if not fixed, see what happens.

Make sure you have "Auto-rotate" in Quick settings if you're on sense...

Autorotate on 1.5?

has anyone gotten autorotate to work on the new 1.5 firmware? I am running JF's build of ADP1.5 and haven't seen it working (thought it was supposed to be a new feature of 1.5?)
I turned on the option in display settings for orientation, but nothing happens when i rotate my phone. accelerometer works because papijump still plays nicely.
It doesn't work on the home (desktop) screen, but it does everywhere else.
oh, thanks it should work on the home page. sheesh

Get aHome for cupcake and it will auto-rotate. Oh, and get it while it's free. It's in testing mode right now but worked with no problems for me.

Just a word of experience. I had rom that used to do full auto-rotate. And it was the BIGGEST pain in the a$$. I would try to dial while driving and it would be rotated the wrong way, etc.
So some apps can auto-rotate and some NEVER EVER SHOULD !!

Agreed; I do miss it on the Home screen, but it's implemented wisely otherwise. The first thing that came to mind when he said he wanted auto-rotate for contacts and dialer was "Why would you want that!?"

Lol I a bit tired but that was kinda the point i was trying to get across I like it better this way.
I just wish I could figure out a way to get it to not go back to portrait everytime it goes to sleep. I keep it on my desk for e-mail checking/web browsing in the landscape position. Every time the phone turns off the screen, whe I turn it back on I have to pick it up so it will go back to landscape. Any one have any advice for this?
yea, i used to hate while getting a call, trying to answer but it wont because it auto rotated back and forth...new auto rotate will take few days to get used to but its better IMO

something weird happening after doing apps to SD

Ok so i have the JF 1.5 build and i just did the New easier, more reliable apps to SD setup. My phone ended up having to be wiped because of something else so i had to start from scratch, but now the bouncing rotate effect will not work at all. I have it enabled, but still nothing happens. does anyone have any suggestions?
It doesn't auto rotate on HOME screen. Settings, browsers, market, gallery..etc. auto rotate works fine
mine stopped auto rotating on all of them. Also, auto rotate did work on the home screen before i had to wipe my phone
i used to be able to do messaging in horizontal mode using the full onscreen keyboard, but not anymore

Did you enable it? In the new build it's disabled by default. try pressing menu at the home screen and going to settings->sound and display and make sure the orientation checkbox is checked
Marcus, your the freakin man!!!! I totally forgot about that one. I only switched it in Spareparts app. thanks a ton man
phone seems to be all good now

Good, trying to keep my method as free of problems as possible, whether real or perceived.

After flashing Cyanogenmod i did something wrong..

Everything works fine, and when i first got it, the 3d gallery would move when the device was tilted, now, i think i might have changed a setting somewhere and the accelerometer doesnt work, someome please help.
First start by searching the forums, I can tell you this question has been asked before. Second, if you have searched all the forums and still can't find an answer, post your question in the proper forum. Or in the case of cyanogen use the irc for quick help.
You're asking in the wrong place...
Does it go to landscape when you tilt the phone to landscape in apps such as the browser or mms? If so, its the gallery app

Go to settings, cyanogenmod settings, user interface, and make sure that your desired rotation settings are selected under the accelerometer options.
I would just reflash the rom should fix it
Root-Hack-Mod-Always™
if i reflash, will i lose all my settings and contacts?

Not if you don't do a factory wipe.

Auto rotate stopped working

Using stock rom, auto-rotate just quit working.
Looked for a setting but nothing seems to help.
Any ideas? Did my accelerometer just die? I will find one of those games that uses it and see if the game detects movement of the device but other than that, I am clueless.
you should consider doing that first and posting your results after
Accelerometer is working at least in the games, just proved that. Still no joy with apps like Dolphin Browser. For example, in Dolphin I went into settings and checked the "Auto" selection under "Orientation" but it just stays portrait no matter which way I tilt the device. If I check Landscape within Dolphin it does keep the browser landscape all the time but that's not really what I am after. Any help would be appreciated. Thnx

Yep, just did it, see above.
Is auto rotate checked under settings>display?

Doh! I kept looking at the settings over and over and going into the Motion section but none of that made sense. I just didn't think to go into Display. Wow, I feel like an idiot..
Fixed!
Now the question is, who/why was it unchecked? I didn't uncheck it. Oh well, problem solved.
Thanks!

its in accessibility in the main settings. or, if you pull down the notification twice, its called portrait(not in stock).

in aosp, its also in accessibility, and in the pulldown..
A little bit of insight...
Ive just upgraded my stock nexus 5 to lollipop OTA, started playing arround with settings and accidentally clicked invertColours.
I later noticed this was in my toggles pull down, and screen rotate was not.
After manually toggling screenrotation in accessibility settings, it appeared in the toggles pulldown (still keeping colour invert).
Is there any documentation from google describing how toggles behave, and how to add/remove them?
This is very interesting, becuz when I posted this thread.. I went found screen rotate in accessibility thanks to the responses... Then Afterwards I noticed it in the pull down... And I was thinking to myself "wow has this really been in the pull down and I didn't even notice it" but apparently based on ur observation, the pull down changes... This makes me feel good , I no longer feel like a idiot now haha...
