Echo free cases - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I've seen some threads about SR users reporting echo when using a case. I'm looking for something that provides good protection, but is echo free, and ideas?

You'll need to find a case where "both" mic holes (top and bottom) are larger than those on the phone itself. Too many of these cases have tiny holes and thus if not "perfectly" aligned will block all or part of the mic.

If I have to, I can enlarge the holes, slightly.

That is exactly what i dod

Will this cause you to hear an echo of your OWN voice or the voice of the person you are talking to? I ask because my girlfriend just got an iPhone 4s and has an Otterbox Defender case on it and has been complaining of an echo.

The echo I experienced with the SGP Neo Hybrid and some others with the Otterbox were such that when I would talk to someone (my end would be loud and clear), while they would report hearing an echo when they spoke. I removed my case and no more echo.
I'm now running the Seidio case with no problems.

+1 for the Seido cases, all of the Mic holes line up and are larger than the ones on the phone its self. I am constantly on speakerphone stranded on conference calls at work and never get any complaints. (I switch between the Active and Surface Cases depending on where I am going that day.)

no but seriously, the diztronic cases on amazon are outstanding. no echo problems at all. fits like a glove.

I have the casemate pop case and there is no echo. I like it better than the otterbox commuter.

I'll be buying a Seido or Casemate, later this week.

Bumping an old post.
- I got a otter-box commuter case put on my AT&T S2 skyrocket and everyone is complaining of echo on their side (i.e. they hear themselves)
I see that there is a hole on the top and the bottom. Should I enlarge these?
Appreciate if someone can share the specifics (those who successfully modified the commuter case).

Silicone case for flat back

Hi I am currently awaiting delivery for my DHD (and it could be a week or two).
I am wondering if anyone who owns a Silicone case - or something similar, and has found a case that allows for the phone to sit flat on a table surface to allow for one handed use. With the camera design set out from the main body I am hoping the case would come up to this level preventing rocking action.
Does the phone rock around on a table when used without a case or is it bearable?
I will then add a screen protector perhaps a Zagg product or similar.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Si
mine is currently cases-less, and does rock around when it on the table. however, placing a little phone sock under the phone is good at reducing the rocking, but i cant find one big enough to fit the phone in yet.
still looking for a good case, but it seems 3rd parties are being slow with this phone.
I'm needing a case or something like a bumper for my DHD.
I've had it 3 weeks and dropped it twice on to hard surfaces, got 2 small scratches and a small dent at the power button (since the button was flush with the case to start with, its actually made it a bit better!! LOL)
but my luck won't last too much longer so I need to protect it...
any ideas??
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I was thinking of using a phone sock to help keep it protected, the problem is having to slide the phone out every time i want to use it, id end up just leaving it somewhere. But keeping it steady with one is a good idea - but overall I'm looking for something more protective, good looking and will prevent the rocking.
I'm normally quite good with not dropping my phones, but a bumper or silicone case would be a must with a screen this size...don't really want to scratch or dent it (even if it has its upsides ;D ).
I'll keep looking, the annoying thing is that all the silicone ones I have found only have front or back on photos, not from the side...which is obviously important to check the level in relation to the camera area.
Cheers
Si
Was browsing through Google products and found this new one on Play, looks really cool not as dull and uninspired as the average silicone protector. I don't know again if it will help the issue with the raised camera, but I am still really interested.

I bought one of these and it does what it says on the tim. Protects the back and sides while offering unfettered access to the screen. It helps with the grip too, so I'm less likely to drop it (eek!)
Just so you know, the following case does have a slight wobble to it left and right when typing whilst on a flat surface. Not loads, but a wobble is there!

Yeah it looks good, nice to know its tougher than silicone, but unless it solves the rocking issue - I still prefer the one I found on Play...just because its cool looking.
but if you give it a go, let us know how well it performs and fits.
Well tbh I'm leaning toward the black one too but this TPU thing caught my attention and I was wondering if anyone has it

I don't think anyone should have it yet since HTC haven't released it.
I ordered it from handtec before but they say they will get it at the end of the month so I canceled mine.

It's not a cutout for the powerbutton.
It's for the 3.5 headphonejack.

To be honest, I don't think the picture shown is even the actual product. There is no hole for the speaker and the whole is definitely for the 3.5mm jack. (you can see the power button raised on the upper right corner). Since the case is not released yet, this is quite possible.
I've got this one too...
As CD993 says it does wobble, but only marginally... this is a TOUCH screen after all, you don't need to press very hard for it to respond!
The fact it's nearly £10 cheaper than the official HTC one (and yes, the image is wrong or else it's not going to have enough cutouts on the back!) is good enough for me!

One issue with any hard shell case...
The hard shell cases look nice but they don't provide any shock protection or cushion should you drop your cell on a hard surface. I like the cases that combine a plastic shell with a rubber liner (Otterbox, etc.)
I'll buy when red is available.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XYHW1Y
It is exactly the same thing and way cheaper. I bought it a few days ago and it works great, I really don't see any changes to reception, call quality or sound.
I forgot something, this case is not completely black, it is actually kind of transparent, so you can see the back of the phone, which I kind of like.
Good luck.

Is there a case that has the ability to attach a lanyard?

My mom and dad are coming from old flip phones where they had lanyards to prevent/minimize drops. I'm a little more concerned now that they have something more expensive and prone to damage if dropped. I originally wanted to get them the Diztronic TPU cases, but if there's something out there with a lanyard attachement hole that would be best.

I can confirm that this case has one too, and I love the case also
nice! i just wish they made one without the big android logo. i'll show it to my parents to see if they mind it or not.
i may just cut a small hole above the rear speaker grille and loop it through those two holes as well.
This was mentioned in another thread as well, but I'm not enitrely sure that I'd trust a lanyard on a silicone type case. What exactly is preventing it, when falling with a force, from holding onto the case and NOT the device? While the cases are clearly fit to our devices, they aren't exactly strongly hanging on either.
Unless you're using a lanyard on an Otterbox type of case, I wouldn't really trust it to hold more than just the case in a fall.
Dude, Im gonna go out on a limb and say, I think the lanyards are even better protection than a case...maybe not protection, but prevention. (That sounds weird..btw)
I used to put the lanyards on all my phones and, aside from kind of looking like an ass, I cant tell u how many times I prevented a drop, especially when pulling out of my pocket. It's just something to grab on to.. so.. +1

I used to as well, but it was actually on the phone, not the case (though it regularly went through a hole in the case as well, but the lanyard hole was built into phones before!)
I dont trust a lanyard attached to a rubber case
I have a CaseMate Barely There, very sleek,.. and strong, .. and has 2 holes for lanyard attach:

This one 2 little holes for the lanyard too.

Such a shame that a well made case adds so much bulk
If only the One S had some rubber grips down the side, I wouldnt need a case then

Another noise reduction thread, is there no solution for echo? So annoying...

Been working on this for the past couple of days. I am on Slim Jelly bean and the person on the other end while in a call constantly complains about hearing their voice/echo issue.
I have tried the cardboard over the ear speaker trick to no avail. Made sure the ear speaker was seated properly in the housing. Still echo issues...
Installed the following app and it's helping quite a bit but there is still some echo there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938424
Has anyone tried any other tips or tweaks? I am using an Otterbox Commuter case with my skyrocket which is a known culprit among many of the other cases. Has to be a way to fix this without reverting back to Gingerbread. This issue is present with most of the Galaxy II and IIIs.
It's hardware so it would be nice to be able to disable the noise cancelling mic altogether or taping the crap out of it inside the housing and over the pin hole on the ouside of the housing. Wonder if that would work... Any help/suggestions appreciated!
Fixed by making the mic holes at top and bottom of the case larger. If your phone does not have echo WITHOUT a case and echo WITH a case on this worked very well for me. Results will differ from case to case of course. I am using the Commuter by otterbox
Plus you would want to use a ROM with the ability of noise suppression enabled within the ROM like Embryo and SkyJB.
Will give that a try. Have the same case on my SR and there is no echo with the Otterbox off. THANKS.
Please report back. Drill the holes larger in the hard case and cut the silicone openings larger as well with some scissors

Exact same issue here.........EXACTLY except I was using Sky-Jelly Bean, i tried everything you did to no avail....as a matter of fact it really hasn't mattered what ROM I'm on the problem has persisted for a couple months, just progressively gotten worse.
I finally got so sick of it i decided to try LIQUIDSMOOTH and was one of the unfortunate ones who grabbed the wrong file before the confusing links were sorted out and I made a nice brick!
Let me say I've been lurking in the shadows here for 3 years, reading reading reading..........never really posted, posting now to reach 10 so i can chime in with the others who made bricks in the dev forums. I've flashed multiple phones.....hundreds of different roms over the years.....first brick ever. Not complaining, i got to complaisant with flashing so it's my bad for not reading correctly..............Soooo my point was a refurb is on the way to replace it and I will report if it has the same issue right out of the box...... at-least i was still under warranty.
With so many people having it i have to believe it's some kind of design flaw, I'm just crossing my fingers that the refub AT&T is sending doesn't have it aswell.

Rubber feet to protect the glass and unmuffled sound

So I wanted to protect the back glass with a screen protector since I would generally be laying the phone down on it's back. I got one of those "apply when wet" guards and it went on ok. The only problem is, the material is so soft, it basically makes a seal on a flat table which cuts off the speaker completely. I only noticed when I was missing text messages, that the sound was significantly reduced from laying it down.
So I got these rubber feet So far, so good. I was afraid they would come right off, but they are on there pretty good. If they do come off, I still have 92 left! I might remove my back screen protector, if these work out. They aren't too hard to get used to when holding, but they certainly don't look the greatest. I attached some pics.

OP's idea is amazing! Agreed that the circular ones look ugly, but say something like two thin strips along the length of the phone, or two horizontal ones along the top and bottom curves?
How does one go about getting custom shapes like that?

agree, dont really like the idea of those rubber nubs, but I would think something a little less aggressive or strips running down the sides or tops. I like the idea, just not as pronounced.
I thought of this some time ago and actually sourced some 3M manufactured ones in transparent polyurethane with an acrylic adhesive. They make them as small as 6.4mm X 1.9mm. I have not found anywhere that sells them in anything less than bulk so I didn't order any. I am waiting to try a few more cases before I decide whether to do this, but am pretty happy with the diztronic TPU for now. My Poetic hardback is supposed to be here tomorrow. I am guessing that if the Poetic works well, and the phone will fit in it with the 3M pads on, I may go for it.
i bet you could find something at michaels.
It's not something I'd do, because how the device looks is a major selling point for me and this doesn't look great.
Not saying it's bad though, it's actually a very clever idea. I do worry about the back getting scratched and the muffled speaker is annoying, so nice job man

I have some extra feet from an old laptop that were supposed to go in the four corners of the screen so the screen wouldn't press against your keyboard. They're maybe 0.5cm wide. Definitely been thinking about doing this myself.
However, I got the bumper instead. Which is now making me think I might plastidip the backside of it so it becomes uber grippy.

Honestly, if you were gong to do something like this, I would suggest a few things.
Go to a cabinetry or hardware store, to look for the bumpers. You would be surprised at what they have.
A better solution, which I was thinking of is dynamat, the non aluminum version.
Take a sheet of plain paper, use a pencil to make an exact tracing of the back of the phone. Use the rubbing method to make sure you know the exact edges.
Overlay onto the dynamat, and use an exact knife to cut out your new back, and add sound channels. But it seems like a lot of work though.
