So with my rooted KF w/ Titanium Backup, I am wondering which apps can be frozen or uninstalled WITHOUT screwing anything up..
So far, as far as stock goes, I have the following frozen:
Amazon Kindle
Amazon MP3
Amazon Video
Audible Fire
Email
Facebook
Help & Feedback
IMDB
Kindle Tutorial
Pulse
Quickoffice
Shop
All seems to be fine, but I am experiencing a lot of lag with GoLauncher. I have yet to find out what the cause of the lag is.
If freezing these apps do not cause the KF to have issues, would deleting them have any negative effects?

I have a rooted KF and using Titanium Backup, I deleted the IMDB stock app. Now I'm trying to get it back but can't figure out how to do that. The downloadable app from the Android Market is not compatible with my device and the same goes for the version from the Amazon AppStore (go figure). So it looks like I'm stuck for now...
Just FYI, deleting it doesn't screw anything up, just don't try to get it back! haha
If you performed a backup, you should be able to restore it. If you want, I can back up my copy with TB and send it to you. It should restore just fine as long as you are running stock..
enkode, could you use TB to backup The Kindle Fire version of Impulse then send me the backup? I'd appreciate it a lot.

Hey buddy. I'm strictly cm7 now. I don't even have a stock rom backup anymore. Sorry!! But, I do remember seeing a thread in the themes and apps forum or maybe the general one of a member that backed up and shared all of the stock apps in one singular zip. I would try to track that post down. Good luck!

Man, I am loving this tablet! I am totally addicted to the higher resolution...
Anyway, I've got almost everything configured the way I like and I was thinking about backups. If my device died, I wouldn't want to reconfigure my settings, add all my bookmarks again, etc.
What are you guys using to backup your device? Any suggestions on applications that work well with Honeycomb? I'd really like to have it so I could take a new Transformer, restore my backup and have things just like they are now.
If you havent rooted, I'd say try this:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro
It looks **** onscreen but does the job well.
If you have rooted get Titanium Backup Pro:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&feature=search_result
Does a very good job.
Bookmarks, contacts, email accounts, and wifi should all be backed up to your Google account. It will even backup which apps you had installed and redownload those as well.
You can go a step further with the stock browsing app and sync your bookmarks with chrome, which to me is one of my favorite features.

Yeah, but only the ones you got from the Market.
If you are in the habit of getting APKs from... er... different places, you will need something for saving them.
A very nice app to do that is File Expert, which not only works as an excellent file manager (with working SMB support and streaming... whohooo!), but it also backs up all the installed apps (if you want even the system ones) to a single directory.
The other day, I wanted to flash the GB leak in the dev section. I'm currently on the stock, rooted rom. So, I downloaded TB, free version, from the market.
I went on YouTube, to watch a few video tutorials, and see how everything works. When I felt confident, I went into the batch section, and selected "Backup all apps + data".
There were only 5-6 apps I wanted to backup, mostly games like drag racing, plants vs zombies, and angry birds. I flash the rom, and go back into TB, and restore my apps + data. 2 apps didn't transfer, saying there was an issue with the file. No big deal. They weren't that important to me, anyway. Angry birds went through just fine, as did Grow. The only one that didn't work, that I really wanted to work was Plants vs Zombies. It "restored" successfully, but it would force close as soon as I click to run the game. I tried uninstalling the game, reinstalling it. Running it, to make sure it worked, then go into TB, and restore data only. Same thing. Just force closes right away.
Based on my description of how I backed up my data, and how I restored my data, is there an "a-ha!" moment in there, as to why a couple apps would restore just fine, and one wouldn't restore successfully?
Might be in the way they restore to the differant UI's. You went from Froyo to GB. Might have to just restore the app, without data . Also, IMO I'd purchase the paid version of Titanium Backuo.. Worth every cent. Also very cheap for what you get. Saved my toast more than once. Just my two cents.
Don't have a solution but I can confirm general probs restoring apps I got from Amazon. Recently moved all apps to sd-ext and most apps survived fine but the Amazon apps almost all had to be reinstalled fresh, had force closes after restoring data. Lost my Plants v Zombies progress too

Thanks. This is not really the news I want to hear. We should contact devs, and ask them to add backup functionality into their games.
I've restored amazon apps before. Trick is, install from amazon, open app and finish one level or so, then restore "data only" from titanium. Worked fine for me then.

I have tried the Eris Market Fix, along with multiple tablet build.prop's. It seems to keep until the Market force-updates. Is there a build.fingerprint that anyone has found that will show titles like Dead Space, Plants vs Zombies, etc.. "on the Android Market". NOT interested in moving TB backups from stock!
why not using tb works so easily!
well, installing eris market fix just bricked my fire
edit: luckily i had TWRP installed and was able to fix. my build.prop disappeared altogether, so i just restored it and i was back up.

TB works great for most apps. It does not work for "Kindle Fire Edition" apps downloaded from the Amazon Market app from stock "for me anyway".
And I would rather not flash back and forth between roms just to get an app that I couldn't otherwise download.
I'm still working around some issues right now, but I haven't gotten far. I've tried every density setting their is, along with a few more fingerprints, but it isn't working for me. If anyone gets this going, please let me know.
Well, I played around with the build.prop and found a great way to open up the Android Market to show a significant increase in the amount of apps.. see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423184
It worked great for me but I didn't wipe my system cache and everything turned out just fine..thank you for sharing.
Hi,
just unlocked and rooted my tf700 and have installed TB. If i restore from a backup on my phone, I presume I'm gonna get the mobile version of apps rather than tablet.
When I then go on the market would it update to the correct versions?
Thanks
Whatever you backed up is what you'll have on the tablet.
I haven't seen any option in Market (Play) to update to the tablet version.
Play is not that 'smart' so you'll have to do the search yourself.
If you use the same log in info on your tablet you should be able to see what you've paid for and/or downloaded to your phone.

Yeh,,thats what I ended up doing. Just a pain that I will have to enter login details etc for everythg again!
as the first post says. Just depends how the apps is designed. I did it for MLB At Bat 2012. In the backup, it was designed for tablets, so no magnifying that the TF700T does with other apps.
I did exactly this, brought my backup folder from my droid razr to my tablet and restored user apps only, with data. I have not had any problems so far. The apps seem to automatically detect screen res. There are few apps I'm sure have specific tablet versions, just not any I use. Only difference is I use the app manager in Rom Toolbox Pro, it has always worked better for me restoring apps across different roms and devices.

Just wondering if I'd backed up apps and data via Google whether the transition would be more seamless...
I know there are a lot of posts on how to restore apps after flashing a new ROM. I have only done this twice so far and both times I used Titanium Pro to restore the apps and data. However each time I have had a number of apps that didn't work or didn't work correctly until I uninstalled and then reinstalled them. If I let the Play Store reinstall my apps (and side load the ones not in the store) I shouldn't have this problem. I was wondering if anyone could comment on how long that approach would take and what issues I may run into doing it that way. I don't really need to reinstall the data for many apps and I have those settings, etc. (like Nova Launcher and Elixir) backed up where the program can reload them after I install it.
Thanks for any experiences you can share and any advice you can provide.

It can be pretty quick or it can take seemingly forever depending on the number of apps you have. I have a little 130 and it takes about 2 hours, on a constant 12mbps (1.3-6MBps) connection.
I had a problem when I first used Tibu with Maildroid being crazy as hell until I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and set it back up. I was also having the same problem when I restored a CWM backup. I went and deleted every backup I had made in Tibu and all my nandroids and tried backing the apps up again and it worked for about 3 flashes and then Maildroid was going crazy again. I finally just Odin'ed back to stock cause I was having a few other issues, GPS & NFC, and once I went back to stock VRALG7 and fully wiped everything and rerooted, flashed recovery, and unlocked I haven't had a problem with anything since. The only thing I have changed is my recovery, went to TWRP, and everything is smooth sailing. I had been using CWM touch, it was the latest version that I was on before Odin'ing, and I really think there is some kind of issue with CWM not backing up right because I had tons of issues and even when restoring to the stock ROM my phone came out of the box on I couldn't get GPS or NFC to work.
But if you don't have many apps you could let the Play store restore you apps, I never used Tibu until this phone and was really skeptical of it cause of the corrupted Maildroid problems I was having but this is hands down one of the best apps I own. Also I'm pretty sure you can use ROM Manager to backup your apps and restore them.
If I were you I would wipe the Tibu backup folder, after you had completely re-downloaded and installed your apps from the market, and then back them up again and see if that worked. Also my Maps backup never ever works, I have to re-download it every time.
There is also MyBackup Pro, I used it before this phone, but its not great in the GS3. It takes about 45 minutes to back up my apps and it freezes constantly, never had this problem with it until this phone though.
You could also try using Tibu's flashable zip creator that was just added. It makes a flashable zip of you app backup folder so you still want to redo all your apps to make sure that it just isn't a once in a lifetime bug that cause a couple of your apps to be corrupted.

Best way I have found is to use AppMonster Pro.
That app allows you to make an "old style backup" which saves the APK from every app you have installed.
That way, after you flash a rom, you can click the APKs and do a true clean install of every app which is FAR more dependable than a TIBU restore. Although I have TIBU Pro, I rarely use it anymore.
Thanks everyone. All the info is much appreciated.

If you actually look in the Tibu folder it saves all of apps as APK's also and you can choose to back up your apps without the app data. The way I've always always understood it is that you can do a true clean install with Tibu too. Now I may be wrong with this but that's just the way I've understood it.

I just use Titanium Backup.
I'm going to give TiBu a try first since I think it will be the quickest way to do this. I also did a backup using AppMonster. If I run into issues with TiBu I'll start over again and try AppMonster. All I need now is a block of time to do the update. First Thanksgiving, then taking my grandson to see the train display at the Botanical Gardens, today out with both daughters (separately) helping with their Christmas shopping and doing some of our own. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a free block of time.
I'll let everyone know how it goes. Thanks again.
I've made the switch to ROM toolbox. The free version let's me batch install apps just no data which I prefer anyways. Then I don't have to click for every app.

I finally got time to update to Clean ROM 5.0 and it went fairly well. I used TiBu but had a few apps that had to be reinstalled so I used the AppMonster backup apk's and everything went well. Restoring the data via TiBu went well for all of my apps that need it done except for Red Laser which lost all the loyalty card info. Not a big deal as its easy to rescan the cards.
Thanks again for all the advice and info.
Maybe i'm just a noob but i dont understand how these backup apps work. I've backed up my apps then rom'd my phone but can't get my apps back cause the back up app isn't there anymore... Is it in the cwm recovery ? Confused

Depends on the backup app you use. In general, you can install the backup app from Play Store and then you should be able to use it to restore your backed up apps. If you use a backup app the saves your apps as apk files, just install them from the apk. You can also install the apps from the Play Store again like you did originally.
Hope this helps.
I have been using TiBu for a long time and it works great and saves a huge amount of time. Sometimes I also get an app acting wacky after a flash. Just use it and if you have a problem with an app just go to settings and clear data for the specific app. It will save a lot of time doing it that way!!
Is there any issues with restoring User Apps & Data that were backed up under an ICS ROM, onto a flashed JellyBean ROM? I wouldn't think so, but wanted to ask. I know system apps & data would be bad, but not sure about user apps.

Try this. Make a Nandroid. If you're flashing a ROM that uses the same version of Android, just restore data. When flashing nightlies I learned, that all you have to do is WIPE, flash your ROM, then do an advanced restore of data only (No TiBU, you do this before you leave recovery). Now everything is there, nice and clean, homescreen, apps, setup, and even your alarm clock! Takes 5 minutes.
I'm stilla newb so if you're like "duh," don't flame me!:laugh:

That works, but if you're doing that don't bother factory resetting before flashing. All you do is erase the data to put it back on

Same here and I've never had any problems with it. I was restoring apps+data but I started having problems after I became a flashaholic so now I only restore apps and spend the extra time relogging in/setting up my apps. Yes it takes longer but it'll save you from problems in the long run.
