Ultimate ICS v2 and Glados Kernel 2.3, so far no problems, really smooth.
ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363765
Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336529
Most likely I'll switch for Cyanogen Mod, once Beta/RC are available, though.

I am on Stock ICS4.0.3 + kernel 3.0.13 = better battery and bluetooth

ICY+S 3.1 with Galdos 2.3
Sent from my Full Android on Crespo using XDA App

NexusBeam v4.1.0 + GLaDOS V2.3

Stock ICS 4.0.3 + Kernel 3.0.13

I am on AOSP+ V1.2|ICS 4.0.3 and GlaDOS 2.4

Stock ICS with GLados 2.3 Stable as hell

PixelRom 1.01 (stock ICS) + kernel 3.1.6 by eugene373
Stable and smooth.

I am on CM9 Alfa 18 with Matr1x v13.
With GladDOS 2.4 I had a lot of reboots, 2.5 seems stable.
But with Matr1x v13 there is less battery drain.

I'm still on :
ROM : CyberGR-Mod ver4.
Kernel : Franco (8 Dec) Kernel
Really smooth & super stable Gingerbread rom with a super kernel of Franco's.
I would wait until ICS is stable enough & many customization on the UI been made.

Cm9 alpha 18 on stock kernel.. Its the best IMO. I've tried GLaDOS too but it had frequent reboots or sod.
Nexus bream will be a close second to cm9

Fast, stable and a very good battery life.

Stock GB 2.3.7 with stock kernel.
I've tried every ICS ROM around here, including the OTA, but none of them had a good battery life. At least not like GB. I'm getting 2 - 2.5 days with moderate use.

I'm using Slim ICS 3.4 (based on 4.0.4) right now and it is great with all the customizing it allows, other than the short battery life. Fast Charge and LCD Density change is wonderful to have.
Before that, I was on NexusBeam 2.3.4 with GLaDOS 2.9 kernel and battery life seemed to be a lot better.. will probably go back to it shortly.
ICS CM9 4.0.4 v7. v19 CFS Matr1x Kernel. Battery life without doing anything: 30 hrs
Androdxide 2.0 and Kernel 3.1.10-ICUP.
cm9 v6 + airkernel 4.0! 1 day and 18 hours with some phone calls, texting, e-mails, wifi many hours, youtube, etc.
slim ics 3.1 + air kernel 4 is so far doing good for me in battery life and performance

[Q] Which version of ICS on your Nexus S?

The Official OTA ICS?
Or something else?
Could you give an advice?
i am using aosp v3 and its runing smooth as silk
at the moment you can safely go with stockrom. Add a custom kernel if you like.
Everyone has his own preference on custom-roms and will tell you "this is the best", but so far they don't differ that much from stock. It's more about the name and the occasional theme mod. Kernel is more important.
If you do a manual update, go for a full install including full wipe. Gave me better performance than the incremental update from gb.
I am running on Codename Android (Previously called AOSP+)

What's the best ICS custom rom for speed/stability?

I'm currently running a Neapolitan ICS rom that came out a few months ago and I've been having a lot of stability/speed issues with it. Lookign to flash a new ROM but there are so many to choose from.. any suggestion? Most important things to be are stability and speed.. I don't care too much about a fancy feature set.
Thanks in advance
Im running Drew Garens Orca ROM, with matr1x 15.5 and i love it! Very stable

any ics rom now would be better than neapolitan since its using a hacked up gingerbread kernel. so i wouldnt even consider it truly ics since its not using a 3.0.8+ kernel.
I use bixie rom v.1.0.0 with matr1x kernel v.16 - It's really fast stable and smooth. Battery life is also good (just need to tweak some settings).
u can see a review about this combo on nexusshacks website
cheers
I use CyberGr V7. It's awesome.
Stable, Fast, stable and incredible battery. Lot of options and functions.
One word GREAT.
I am currently using CyberGR-MOD|NS.NGN ver. 7.0 Hybrid ICS, it crashes from time to time but for the most part is working fine! I would also remond the CyanogenMod 9 v4.0.3 v2.1 it has less custom features but its only getting better!
PV!
Check out kangs roms (AOKP). There getting lots of positive feedback
Sent from my Nexus S
Cm9 very fast, stable, you can tweak cpu governors, sounds and colors directly in the rom settings
Cyanogenmod 9 v2.1
Cyanogenmod 9 v2.1 runs very stable on my phone! I would definitely recommend it for stable daily use!
Bigxie Crespo Apex v1.02...brilliant. Was on NexusBeam before which was excellent too, But Bigxie ROm has lots of nice features, facebook sync etc.
Never had a reboot with either unless using a different oc'd kernel, So off the shelf Bigxie Crespo Apex v1.02 it is. rock solid. loving it. Don't like the boot graphic so flashed the stock one and its just perfect
CM9 Kang for the win
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
CM9 Nightly Kang (Build 1 of v2.1)
Eugene's Kernel (Speedy-7)
OC 1100/100 (conservative)
I recommend CyberGRv7 ICS rom. It runs beauty on my nexus s!!

[Q] Whats your ROM & Kernel?!

Just want to know what people are running on their phones. Im a flash freak and flash roms practically everyday, but i really want to find a rock solid, stable rom and kernel i can stick to.
Thanks in advance.

Still GB?
ROM : Mandaman2k ROM based on Peter Alfonso
Kernel : Matr1x
At the moment i am using Brickmakers MIUI 2.3.3 with Matr1x 16.0
I'm also using GPA 19 ... rock solid.
Now using Bugless Beast by Pete Alfonso, but I'm waiting until nexus Sense has got data! Than I probably will move to Nexus Sense! I'm running on the stock kernel, but Nexus Sense will run on Matr1x 11.5!! Bit old, but newer versions are for ICS.. Nexus Sense is on 2.3.3 at the moment... bit bad, but okay!
Greetzz, Jojoost.

ROM: GummyNex 0.7.0

Stable, smooth, battery full >50hrs.
Brickmakers MIUI 2.3.3 with Eugene Speedy 7
ROM : ICS Peter Alfonso
Kernel : Matr1x v15.5 (v16 does not have deep idle )
Slim ICS v2.4 Alllll the way (with stock kernel, that is speedy 7)
Pete crespo 4g nightly 02/09 with Glados v2.10.
Thinking of going back to gpa19 or cm7.1.0.1.

I've always gotten good battery life from Pete's roms. I do alot of internet stuff, as well as the normal few calls and texts during the day. I have no problem going an entire 15 hour day without hitting the charger.
Wow, that pretty good battery life. Ill be sure to give it a go. Thanks everyone for there input helped a great deal.
Cyber-GR mod v7 with Matr1x kernel 15.5. Its stable, smooth and fast (at 200-1200 mhz smartass v2). That's my main ROM & Kernel, but I'm always trying out new roms.
The new 4.0.3 MIUI roms werent impressive to me. Not smooth, and fast enough :/.
AOKP Milestone 3 with SG's 2/05 kernel. Pretty rock solid in terms of battery life and stability and overall smoothness .

Now nuherti 2.2 and speedy7.
Will test later with matrix 16.5 and new sg kerbel

Best rom for nexus s

hello
what's the best kernel?
what's the best rom ICS for this devise?
Regards
Hard to say which ROM is the best because they all have their pluses and minuses. Same can be said for kernels; each kernel will perform differently according to which ROM you choose. I'd suggest reading through the ROM ops and selecting the one you like based on features and theme. Once you've found a ROM you like, flash several different kernels to find one that is most compatible (also doesn't hurt to read kernel ops as well for feature details). This process, although a little more time consuming, will likely give you better results than relying on the objective opinion of others. Also, bedalas compiled some awesome reference guides on on rom and kernel performance that's a must read for anyone looking to get the most out of their device
You without me is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes
ok i understand your point of view
but
wicth do you recomend ?
kernel and rom ?
I prefer cm9, stock kernel.
plenty of other options though.... get experimenting is the advice, find out for yourself which one you like.
till date, CM9 with stock kernel is smoothest Rom. But it not fastest (based on benchmarking scores).
I am running nuhetri's v 3.0.1 with AirKernel (with voodoo colors), and running awesome!!

Is this cm9 that is the best rom with matrix kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399035
Running the 4.0.3 OTA on i9020a (with all the fun radio experimentation to make it work) and AirKernel 3.45. Runs beautifully.

Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
AOKP (Build 28)
Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (Lionheart)
Live OC (100 - Noop)

I quite liked pixel-rom and cyberg v9 but right now im on nuhetris 3.0.1 because of the battery-life...
I also prefer matr1x kernel! It has the best performance/battery ratio imho!
But as stated before: try for yourself!
sent while eating an ice cream sandwich in the matr1x
I flash roms therefore i am!
As someone mentioned, get experimenting, because you know better than us what suits you the best.Me as flashoholic I tried many and so far for me the best is CM9 and MIUI.Atm I´m running MIUI4 with T132 muenchhausen and it is really great. In the matter of kernel I like Trinity´s T132 muenchhausen and the Matr1x kernels and CM stock ones.CM9 also comes with great kernel which is running pretty smooth. If you like to try GB rom than I would recommend CM7,MIUI 2.3.7c,Oxygen.I runned MIUI with Trinity´s 1,5GHz kernel and it was rocket..But it is on you to decide what suits you the most.Don´t worry and try it is awesome to dicover new roms Happy hunting.

fast stable great menu and awesome colors , i try all the roms and i stay with this for 2 days ...
I tried CNA + Air Kernel.. but battery life was suffering.. currently trying out Pixel Rom 1.6 Fully Touched.. seems decent, is giving decent battery backup.. and i liked the Notification toggles also..
