Hello XDA,
I currently have the HTC Aria (Rooted) and I was wondering if I should get the HTC Inspire 4G. I have been considering it for a while and my upgrade date is in a few months and I was wondering, is this a great phone?
In my opinion yes the Inspire is a great phone but if you still have to wait a few months; HTC has some new stuff coming down the pipe Dual core, 4.5" screens, Ect... Although by the time you upgrade the Inspire will more than likely be free while your other options will not. As for what AT&T has out there right now I would still pick the Inspire. Even if they would have not screwed up my change from Alltel and gave them to me for free to keep me happy.

I had the Aria and now have the Inspire. The difference in size and weight took some gettting used to, but the Inspire is a great phone with a much better selection of ROMs. I have no regrets whatsoever.
I agree with tmcfarland. I came from an aria and I love it. Plus there have been no problems getting used to it other then the size difference. Just be sure if you root to read everything through it is a little more involved than the aria but still very doable.

This is the best phone eva! Now seriously it is a pretty beastly phone, speeds are great, screen quality is great, data speeds are the best your going to get until LTE and the build quality is amazing along with DEV support. Thats all you need to know
my favorite phone so far! although my second best is the blackjack 2 so this is really in a different world.
camera is amazing too...
like its been said waiting will offer a newer htc phone but its prolly gonna cost you where as this inspire might be a free phone when your due
Thanks guys, I went to an At&t store in my area to check the phone out, it seems pretty cool. And does anyone suggest a specific ROM, I have been looking at some extremely great ones.
I have enjoyed Gingerbeast for a whole week already, world record fot me...but i would also recommend honeysense, 2.1 sense mixed with 3.0

I'm going against the grain here and not recommend this phone. I'm on my third phone. Im not hard on them at all. The speakerphone and freezing problems is why I returned the first one. The second one the screen totally went out. Both were stock. My current version is rooted and custom and so far no problems. It does drop calls but that may just be the service although never had q problem with my previous device. The battery is puny and you will need a charger with you at all times. I give the phone a 6 out of 10.

Hey, I'm almost always around a charger and my battery on my Aria isn't so great either, so do you see me complaining?
When will you have the phone? For now I would recommend trying something like miui, very much like iPhone and completely different from the other inspire roms.
Definitely try gingerbeast, super fast.

Tpgb is a great rom. I just got an inspire after having a captivate and my wife has an aria I would def get the inspire I thought my cappy was nice but the inspire blows it away. Im on tpgb rom now and my battery life is better than any cappy rom ive rver been on and it is ridiculously fast

Wait. I have the aria and 2 inspires and would tell you to wait. The phone has issues, but I will say I still love it. Looks like the sensation is coming to ATT and lord willing maybe the sgs2 . If you think battery life on the aria is bad your really in for a bad surprise with the inspire. They have the same size battery.
Performance wise the inspire is rock solid, on par with the dual core beasts. I can run the tegra and gameloft games without a hitch. But the cell signal, WiFi, and definetly Bluetooth performance is sub par. It is a phone afterall. The speaker is bad, unusable for videos without the volume apk. I honestly think the metal body is what hinders the radio. Most have issues with the screen, my two included. Hell a case can kill Bluetooth as can your Hand covering the side.
Not trying to poop all over our beloved gadget, just telling it like it is. Go into any if the forum here and ask the opinion of that phone. I promise you it will be 90% positive, except the atrix. Lol

I still use my Aria and I have the Inspire...The Aria is good in the car because I can control everything with one hand and my thumb...cant with the Inspire.
I'm stumbled between these 2 device on T-Mobile.
Even though the Sensation has 768 MB ram, and the G2X has 512mb ram, from all the videos I seen on youtube, the G2X seems a lot faster than the Sensation.
From gaming point of view, which will get more support? the Geforce ULP or the Adreno?
There is already a good thread comparing the two phones.

An app called Tegra zone made by Nvidia list games designed for the Tegra 2 devices.
I think there are current about 10 games on the list. I have some games on the Xoom, and the visual quality is excellent. Not sure how much improvement you will see on a smaller screen.

I wonder if a stock HTC Sensation will run faster than a G2X.
To test it, we will need to root our phone and use app like SystemApp Remover to disable Sense, install ADW luncher on both devices and try it out.

Ja ja ja, no root no nothing just out of the box.
If you want just call HTC ,cry and tell them that Sense sucks.

I think you have misunderstood me, I was not complaining about Sense or lack of root. I was just point out a fair way to test the speed of both devices, which requires rooting our phone.
This is my 1st HTC android device, I'm currently enjoying the Sense overlay, and don't think it "sucks".
The fair is two units out of the box.

I had the g2x for two weeks and that thing was noticeably faster than the sensation running sense or adw without root/vanilla android. But the battery life was terrible on the g2x and I prefer the screen, form factor, and camera on the sensation.
I am actually surprised how nice sense is compared to the last time I used it. Big fan if they can get some of the slowness out of it.
Either way both phones are sweet.
I owned the G2X before the Sensation and was disappointed. The battery life was terrible and I had problems syncing it with my car's BT. I think the fact that T-Mobile is still "out of stock" of the G2X on their website speaks volumes about the phone. It has issues.
I have no complaints about the Sensation.
I'll let you know tomorrow when my Sensation arrives. The G2x is a very fast phone, it's just chalk full of odd bugs that in the end, were driving me nuts. I'll put them head to head and see which one I like the most.
I own both, and because of the data issues I'd say the g2x. The Sensation has a better feel and look imo. Audio is better on the g2x.
I think once the bootloader is unlocked on the sensation, it'll be a beast.

I also own both and the sensation wins with me hands down. I hate the g2x a total waste of my money so far I have no complaints with my sensation I am using adw so I don't have to fool around with sense but I do miss the contacts/dialer app of vanilla android
I had the g2x and sent it back. Non of the Rome are particularly special. The screen is really nice, but the phone has bugs. I prefer the button layout on sensation, though its not stellar sensation at least has a notification led, and g2x GPS doesn't work. Like, at all.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
G2x was way faster. fastest android phone i've ever used. I didn't even think android was capable of being that speedy.
like someone else said, with the g2x i had to manually connect the bluetooth everytime i turned on the car.
Sensation connects immediately and hasn't given me any bluetooth hiccups. Only phone i've owned i can say that about.
I love sense, but i hate the overall slowness of the phone. Might be sense, or screen, or whatever, but g2x was blazing for me. sensation..... usable. not fast, and the lag isn't terrible but enough to notice.
The feel/form factor of the sensation is awesome. Feels like a true successor to the Nexus One. Unlike the Nexus S.
Hopefully once the sensation is rooted someone will make a ROM that makes it speedy while retaining Sense.
I dunno about this battery life thing though. Unplugged it (sensation) around 1230. It's 955 and power saver came on. I keep the screen brightness all the way down, all radios on except gps, gmail on push, yahoo/fb/twitter on refresh every 2 hours (update on screen unlock too).
The last Nexus one i had (ironically with the sense 3.0 rom), i unplugged it on a friday evening, monday morning it was around 30%. same radio/app setup as the sensation.
Oh, and for some reason the sense keyboard works much better than swype.
I was willing to trust LG with buying a phone (I use it for business also), and that was my biggest mistake.
The phone looks like someone just threw together a phone, without spending much time on testing. It has SO MANY issues that come right out of stock, that is unforgivable.
Ive had plenty of phones, and the only phone that was worst than the LG was the G1 - only because it was the first phone with android.
I just got the HTC and I must say im impressed with it, so far it seems really stable. Plus it feels better, it looks better and it acts better.
Forget about the LG, nobody should get that phone, because LG might think that their phone was a success, and they might make another one.
You are better off getting the MyTouch 4g instead of the G2x, but if you are wondering between the Sensation and the G2x - deff. get the Sensation.
I will be getting the Sensation on the 15th and I am currently using the G2X. After I play around with the Sensation, I will decide which one I am giving to my wife. I was one of the lucky ones who got a G2X with absolutely NO bugs and a great battery. There's no doubt that the G2X is faster and snappier than the Sensation so it all comes down to form. Hold both of them and see which one you like better. Also ask yourself if you want Sense or Vanilla. In my opinion the Sensation looks better but the G2X providing you get one with no bugs, performs better.

I wouldn't call it a country mile. The only way I would call it a country mile was if the Sensation performed better than the G2X. The only phone I would call a country mile over the G2X would be the SGSII because it both looks better and performs better than the G2X. The Sensation only looks better.

You worry far too much about some things. It may not score as high in benchmarks but they are benchmarks, its a PHONE for god sake!
All I have seen you do is complain, I don't even know why you are bothering to get one if you think its so awful...
The sensation is a great phone, but there are some things that bother me about it. Sense 3.0 is just too much...uses too many resources. The screen is decent, but I still can't figure out why the g2x screen I saw in person looks better (maybe because the g2x is an IPS screen?), and the speaker on the sensation is terrible (how is the speaker on the g2x)?
I've been reading that the official gingerbread update has (so far) fixed some issues that the g2x had, which is why I'm thinking about making the switch.
Any opinions on this?
honestly as this recent leak is, cm7 is still better and more stable with alot of extra features, until t-mo releases the official ota with upgraded baseband and upgraded to a gingerbread kernel, this update is still inferior to cm7 imo
gingerbread is still far off, if this is the latest rom LG has, then i wouldnt say its close to being pushed to t-mo for review wich still leaves us a few months away from anything official, unless they really plan to make the final update run on a kernel that doesnt even fully support the tegra 2 chip.

Both phones are great. Had the G2x but switched it out for the sensation. I have no regrets because the G2x was very problematic. I guess I was one of those unlucky ones that got a bad g2x (reboots, freezes, shutdowns, etc).....and I had 2 G2x and both phones were bad and I didn't want to wait for the update lol. However, a working nondefective G2x is a beast phone nonetheless. It's faster than the sensation imo.
The sensation on the other hand is also a great phone. And im Lucky that I got a nondefective one from the start. I prefer the sensation over the G2x but it all comes down to the user itself.
Im not boasting or bragging or putting down any phone, just stating my personal experiances with these phones.
Hope you get the phone you want...

The g2x is an awesome gaming phone with all the tegra games and stuff.
The sensation i feel is a little more boring but more reliable and professional looking. Also i noticed that by disabling sense and the bloatware that cane with the phone, ive been able to make it as fast if not faster than the g2x. Specially the browsing. I dont have the problem where it takes a while for the browser to open abd once it opens its seems to reopen the last website, which i belive was due to my g2x running low on memory.

I traded my g2x for a sensation, them back to the g2x. The g2x is way better..
Sensation wifi was horrid..
Kept my G2X but use my Sensation as my daily driver. The only time I really pick the G2X up is to play Tegra games or flash ROMS. Like someone else said, if you keep Sense on the Sensation, your phone will be laggy. HTC did a horrible job of optimizing the new version of Sense. If you load ADW on the Sensation, the UI will become as fast, if not faster than the G2X. Loading apps, using Google maps and browsing the web has always been faster on the Sensation than on the G2X whether your running Sense or not. Getting rid of Sense and stopping it from running makes the UI as responsive as one could get.
Can't go wrong with either phone. I didn't have a bad experience with either of them (until I loaded GB onto my G2X). Some people had a bad experience with the G2X and went to the Sensation. Some people had a bad experience with the Sensation and came back to the G2X. To each his own.

Well, looks like I'm keeping my sensation.
Installed launcherpro, and for some reason it even opens up apps quicker now (even though sense 3.0 is still there running in the background). I also love the fact that I can still use the sense 3.0 lockscreen with launcherpro. Phones feels like an entirely new beast now.

Yea man...Sense sucks anyway. The only things good about it is the lock screen, sms app, contacts and email. Everything else is just annoying eye candy. Good part about using a launcher is you get to keep all of that without the eye candy.
Check your available memory now. It should be somewhere around 300. Also, if you think LP is fast, check out ADW.

If you are a developer then get the G2x, but if you are looking for a overall solid phone for day to day use, keep the Sensation. But if you don't etheir one, then can't go wrong with either phone. The Sensation is more powerful as it uses a better GPU.
The screen on the sensation is superior in some ways, just overall looks sharper and alot more more detail. But the G2x, colors look more vibrant.
WiFi issue I notice to, if you touch around the top area and when signal is fair, then drops, but with a stonger signal, not as bad. Notice it doesn't affect the other radio's inside.
But the G2x seem quicker, but battery last more longer on the sensation, I guess theirs tradeoff's ethier way you look at it.
Long term Sensation is a better choice, In quadrant test score lower due to screen resolution is higher and does affect the score, but CPU/GPU is better in the Sensation as it use a powerful 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 220 GPU, which is known to outpreform the Nvidia terga 2 chipset, only thing lacking is the ram which is 768MB LPDDR2, which is good, they sure have when to 1gb. Alot of people think the Samsung Galaxy s2 is going to be faster, it's not, it only use a Adreno 205 GPU, but the ddr II 1gb ram helps but screen resolution also make a big different, put the same screen in all and see who wins?
I didn't have any problems with my G2X to begin with, but updated to the GB update and it runs even quicker and the battery life is also better.
One thing that deterred me from getting the Sensation was the locked bootloader and only 1gb of internal memory. Not all apps can be moved to the SD card. Plus I think the G2X looks sexy with it's curved Gorilla glass edges and sleek body. stock Vanilla is a big plus, and the dual speakers at the bottom of the phone and not on the back that get's muffled was another deciding factor. HTC always has crappy sounding speakers.
While I was out walking the dog today, my Nexus One slipped from my hand and landed on the asphalt. The screen didn't take too kindly to that, and now I'm looking for a new phone. I'm on T-Mobile, and have had a G1 and Nexus One. I use Cyanogenmod as a daily driver, and have read about HTC releasing an unlockable bootloader, etc, so that all sounds fine, but I was asking about general build quality. How do you like it? Would you recommend it to someone coming from a Nexus One? How would it stack up against the G2X in your books?
Thanks for your responses.
Well I believe that if you're with Tmobile, you can't go wrong with the sensation 4G. It is arguably their best phone. The build quality is excellent and there isn't a sexier phone out on the market right now. It's a very capable phone, very fast ( not as fast as the G2x cause the G2x is running vanilla android) but it's still fast and when the devs make custom ROMs for this bad boy, we will get the true potential of this phone. Like Goku transforming into a super saiyan!
I have both the G2X and the Sensation. I will tell you that the only things the G2X has over the Sensation is a faster UI when phones are kept stock settings, its display has better contrast and, well, that's about it....
I use my Sensation much more because of the bigger display with higher resolution. It puts more content on the screen and text looks super clear/crisp. Apps and web browsing is faster in the Sensation than the G2X. Google maps takes a while to load as you scroll on the G2X but the Sensation loads maps instantely. The two games I play religiously look better on my Sensation and also run smoother. The camera is better and the video recorder is miles better. It also records in stereo sound instead of mono like the G2X.
On to the good part. Once you push Sense aside and load ADW or LP, the phones UI flies. It becomes as fast, if not faster than the G2X. In the end, Sense is giving it a laggy feel since HTC forgot to optimize it. That is why I'm not using Sense but like I said. A custom launcher will make this phone the fastest you have ever used.
The only thing I would change is the WiFi signal strength. Its not bad but I've had better. Good luck.

I'm from the Galaxy S and I do think Sensation is a good choice.
Htc has certainly put a lot of work in its first dual-core phone.Although nowadays some software problems are seen but it's just htc's style. The hardware of this phone is rather good.
I got s-off yesterday and has started to try custom roms recently. It's great to be available to such interesting event again.
The Sensation, aside from Sense, will feel the most like the Nexus One physically. The G2x will look most like to Nexus One when you are actually using it. I would buy the Sensation. The LG is a faster device overall, no excuses, but it is not a significant speed difference and it is easy to choose the higher resolution screen and significantly better battery life of the Sensation.

Agreed with everyone above. The Sensation is a freaking good phone, and opening up to a lot of possibilities. The only shame is the lack of optimisation for Sense 3 : it's pretty laggy, and doesn't run as smooth as it could.
But if you try to install a custom senseless rom, you'll find it's amazingly fast.
I had the G2X, ended up with a sensation. I love the device, and agree with most of what people have said before me. Here are my biggest gripes though:
-Touch screen can be quite finicky and laggy. This is off and on and I really hope it's software related.
-Gaming and other very intensive activities can eat up to 1% battery life a minute, which is quite sucky, even for heavy use. Light-moderate usr results in pretty solid battery, life, however, lasting at least a day. Basically don't use it for multimedia or navigating unless it's plugged in (which kinda ruins the point IMO)
-The WiFi is honestly quite terrible. The signal is below average, it often drops randomly unless you have full bars, cases cut a bit of the signal, and if you put a hand on the back top of the device, as you would normally in landscape mode, it kills up to 30db (sometimes more) of signal, often killing it entirely if you don't have a very strong signal.
-There are a couple minor annoyances regarding keyboards, text input, and such. Not a huge deal but still faulty.
Still, it's a great device, and I think it will get quite amazing after custom roms if you can stand the sub-par WiFi. And who knows, maybe HTC can release some sort of new back cover that helps WiFi. (We can dream haha)
Personally i think the sensation is a way to quickly sell phones before the xmas period when HTC release yet another new phone. The Sensations spec is nothing special, its so similar to the Desire HD its unreal with the additional cpu, camera and screen. The weight of the sensation is extremely heavy compared to say the galaxy s2. if you dont already have a DHD i would say its a nice phone to have but for the sake of a few months would you not wait for the xmas models?
Or failing that drift over to the dark side and buy a samsung which is similar price yet better spec
From someone coming from a Blackberry, I love my new Sensation. It's got a great screen, and like a previous poster said, extremely snappy after loading up a custom launcher. I found that Launcher Pro has given me the best results. I would buy from Costco and try out the phone for 30 days or so. They don't have a restocking fee.
In my opinion, the Sensation is a great phone! Coming from a problematic G2x, the sensation is a better phone overall. Not trying to bash the G2x, but the couple phones that I had were just bad lol. The only bad thing I could say about the sensation is the WiFi issue....which disconnects 1-3times per day, which isn't a deal breaker for me to get a new phone.
Again, not trying to bash or flame phones, just stating my personal thoughts and experiences. So yeah, is highly recommend the sensation

I disagree. I upgraded to this from the DHD because this phone ticked the boxes where i felt the DHD was lacking. Higher res screen, front facing camera and a better size in the hand.

I am pleased with this phone and fully .. i have S-OFF,and leeDROID rom,for now its working oke,its stable and fast.. and i like this screen I can not scratch it
i love my sensation i have a g2x too but the bigger screen is better but the g2x screen is brighter the wifi signal is stronger on the sensation and more clear when on wifi calling. games run smoother on g2x and speaker phone is better but the sensation looks like a nexus one and feels like it to so sensation all the way. i hate that silver strip on the back of the g2x it gets scratch eze thats my 2cents of both phones
I'm loving my Sensation, it's a lot faster than my HTC Desire was and can do a whole lot more. And now that we have S-OFF it's even better running a custom ROM and can only get better in time.
Lets face it. The sensation is a poor design. Put wifi on and put your hand over the top and watch the bars drop. What high end phone does that ****. When your writing sideways ons text with wifi on the wifi drops signal. Its horrid. Want to piss on this phone in front of htc. Garbage seriously thinking about getting rid of it!!!!!! Sorry just pissed at my phone today. Lol

Let's not be stereotypical and assume that ALL sensations have horrid WiFi connections. I understand your dissatisfaction cuz I had WiFi issues too on my first sensation but no issues on my second one, luckily.
Hope your phone works better for you homie

As a user that has had both. I took the MT4G over the Sensation. There is no need for that much power in a phone right now plus the battery life on those things is TERRIBLE. However from a money standpoint, I would straight trade the MT4G for a Sensation any day lol.
Totally worth it in my eyes. This is more than enough phone for me so I won't be upgrading anytime soon. The dev community is really strong too. Already put virtuous quattro on it and it's amazing. Tried out some of the sense ics roms but I like vanilla ics best.

I've been thinking of getting a Sensation myself for the last couple of days after my bad eMMC MT4G ate it, but the more I look at my options, the more I'm leaning towards getting another MT4G provided that I get one with the good eMMC and screen.
The Sensation's primary issue is signal strength. It annoys me that I have to limit my options for which case to buy so that it doesn't have a role in degrading the signal. Also, I prefer using Wi-Fi over 4G because I'm on a simple data plan, and it's unacceptable to me for the Wi-Fi antenna at the top to be extremely susceptible to a death grip that I have to hold the phone a certain way in landscape mode, and likewise I can't hold the phone by its bottom unless if I also want to degrade the mobile signal as well. I can hold the MT4G with two fingers using the TPU Fusion case, but I don't do it. Why would I do that with the Sensation, with or without a case? If I can give Apple crap for their iPhone 4 inconveniences, I will do the same to HTC. It's not acceptable.
To me, my phone still needs to primarily be a phone, then a mobile Internet device and GPS, then a PDA, and lastly, a time-waster. As great of a device as the Sensation was spec-wise for 2011, it comes up short in too many practical categories. The signal strength, battery life, and speaker volume (for which there is a fix) are all worse than the MT4G. Even though I would like the larger, higher resolution screen and dual-core processor, I don't make use of those things enough for them to matter.
That said, I still hate the idea of playing panel and eMMC lottery to get a good MT4G. If the Sensation didn't have its issues, I may have gotten one the first time around, because I really like the phone otherwise.
Of course, when it comes to trading the two phones, that's a no-brainer because you're basically making $50-100.

Weird, I've not had a single issue with signal of any kind no matter how I hold it. Use my wifi at home at all times and haven't had any issues with my 4G either. Also I get great battery life on ics, just as good as I did with my mt4g. Speaker volume also not an issue. Have you had one of these? Cause I have absolutely zero doubts about making the switch and would never go back.

I haven't. Those are all the complaints I've read in the xda Sensation forums. What it boils down to for me is whether I want to spend the extra $80-100 for hardware that I know I won't put to maximal use and a new set of problems. It may not be every handset, just like not every MT4G has a bad screen, bad eMMC, squeaky buttons, or whatever else. However, the Sensation does have its share of problems and the ones that it has are potential deal breakers to me, regardless of what another user's tolerance, threshold, or experience is.
I haven't ruled out the Sensation yet, but it's hard for me to pull the trigger on either a second MT4G or a Sensation knowing that both of them have the potential to be a bigger pain in the ass than any phone I've owned before the last MT4G. What's frustrating is that those are my only candidates at this point because nothing else appeals to me nor is in my budget. I've only started to take a liking to some Samsung and Motorola smartphones based on their late-2011 models, but those are way out of my budget and I know I'd want to switch to AOSP immediately with those phones.
You know, if I had to replace my MT4G, I'd just go for a Galaxy S. They're easy to root and there's a decent amount of support. And everything works on ICS. I'm just not a fan of the build quality. I'd be using my Galaxy S if it wasn't for the fact that it feels cheap and plasticy. My MT4G is like a lump of steel by comparison (which is good).

word to that brother! I hate the build quality of the Galaxy S, however the build quality on the mytouch 4g is awesome!
I recently traded a HD2 and for a Mytouch 4g and I was lucky enough to get one with a good eMMc chip and display
Haha. Yeah. I tend to keep my older phones, and when I was gifted the Galaxy S, I switched back to my MT4G. In fact, build quality was what kept me with Blackberry for so long. After I was given my MT3G Slide, I got hooked onto android because of flash support. That and I could easily play SNES emulators.
It's a shame to see people move away from the phone. Especially with the recent news that perhaps we could start getting full functionality from ICS because of the other similar phone's official ICS upgrade.

I think I've decided to save my money and get another MT4G for now while keeping my eye on the Amaze or whatever else might become a good modder phone when it's truly time for me to upgrade.
I know some people here like to upgrade phones like they're leasing BMWs, but my phone is not a status symbol. I'll just take a solid, good-looking form factor with sufficiently powerful hardware for my needs, because once I'm done rooting and flashing a new ROM, I don't mess with it again.
I've got a Sensation and MT4G, and I switch back and forth in use. Spec wise the Sensation may seem a lot better on paper, but here's my perspective in comparing the 2 in real life.
Sensation pluses:
* Screen size & resolution
* 8 MB Camera and 1080p Camcorder
* More active development, so quicker path to ICS
Sensation minues:
* Antennas built into the rear cover - arguably a defective design; harder to do a simple battery pull; not nearly as solid as the MT4G design with its metal battery cover; and generally the MT4G seems to get better reception too.
For most other items, like battery life, speed of use with or without Sense, lack of lag, built in memory, 4g speeds, browsing, etc., the devices are very similar if not about the same. Dual core in the Sensation is nice, but on both of my devices I only OC to about 1.2 ghz and they both (with the right GB rom) have the same smoothness and similar benchmarks. Sensation is just like a slightly newer brother to the MT4G IMO.
