if SuperOneClick doesn't work for you, hunt around for z4root, that's the one I use, and I've had no troubles with it personally. Just an alternative.
when I occasionally run into this, unplugging the phone and quickly plugging it back in tends to do the trick for me.
Ok thanks for tip also tried using z4root but its froyo so the only root I've heard of using is suoeroneclick does anyone know if the USB setting for debug is in or off and does the ask on connection or Samsung kies have to be checked also tries the unplug and plug back in my comp keeps saying program not responding

USB debugging must be enabled. Do you have the correct phone drivers for the vista installed?
That was problem drivers link was corrupt download different link and worked thanks guys

I have adb installed. HTC sync nor Droid explorer are running. I verify adb works because I can see my device. My problem is that the revolutionary.exe is not detecting my phone. Says waiting for device. Usb debugging turned off. I've been trying for the past 6 hours and no go. I'm coming from a Vibrant where we don't have locked boot loaders n such. Is there another method to achieve s off? The noob guide didn't help me. Hope someone can.

Usb debugging should be on. There's your problem.

Meant to say on.
Meant to say on
Both HTC Sync and Droid Explorer have to be completely uninstalled from your computer to make it work. Also, download and unzip the HTC Naked USB Driver to a folder somewhere on your computer. While the Revolutionary tool runs and says "waiting for device" open device manager. You may see a yellow exclamation point icon with something like "Android Phone" or "Android Composite Device." The actual title escapes my memory, but you get the idea. Update the driver and point it to where you unzipped the USB driver. Restart the computer after you uninstall the HTC Sync, Droid Explorer, and install the USB driver and try the Revolutionary tool again. Let us know what happens.
this is what im seeing... gosh i feel noobish
Try to update the driver and point it to where you unzipped the new driver. Did you completely uninstall the other software? and you have it in "Charge Only" mode with USB debugging on right?
When I tried to update the driver it says Windows found the most current driver or something like that. Also phone is in charge only mode and usb debugging on. :-/Any remedies or such I'm open to hear them. I'm goin to sleep or try. I know its me just don't knw what it is.

HTC Sync does not have to be un-installed. It just can't be running at the time. Install HTC Sync & the drivers, make sure its working...say try to sync your phone to your pc. If its works then exit it off & unplug your phone from pc. Now exit HTC Sync from the taskbar on your pc...little phone with an x on it.
Turn on USB debug, plug your phone into your pc & select HTC Sync & ignore the error that it cant find it..then go from there..
Adb didnt have the correct path. Rolling eyes. Lol. Going to give it another try

I recently obtained a Charge stuck in download mode, thinking it would be an easy fix... guess not!
The phone seems to be working fine (minus being stuck in download mode) and it should be an easy restore through Odin or the Samsung programming tool, but I can't my computer to recognize the phone. I've tried multiple ports and multiple cables (all of which worked when flashing other Samsungs—Galaxy S phones) and nothing seems to be working. No driver installs on Windows and if I boot into OS X on my Mac, Heimdall doesn't detect a download mode device.
Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong here or could it be the phone itself?
Have you tried installing the windows drivers for the charge from samsungs website
Edit: Attached the windows drivers for the charge as samsung took them down

you can get your phone debricked for 40 bucks, but I am not sure if your phone is even bricked.
Try pulling the battery for a while- make sure all residual power is gone.

check to see if your phone set to 'USB debug mode".
Installed the drivers, which didn't help. The phone is still not being recognized (it doesn't even show up as a USB device).
Does the phone boot at all? Or have you tried?

The phone doesn't boot at all. Any attempts to get it into recovery or to boot normally just make it turn on in download mode again. I haven't been able to try PC based methods as it's still not being recognized.
I actually opened up the phone, grabbed a multimeter, and tested out the USB port. Surprisingly, it seems to be good, so that doesn't seem to be the problem with getting the computer and phone to talk.
Any more ideas?
When you plug it into your computer, go to start (assuming you have Win 7) and type "device manager". Does anything even pop up when you plug it in?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Nothing pops up.
Self-bump, any ideas? I'm about to sell it for parts as I can't think of any way to get this to work.

No that is the unbrickable mod aka you take apart your charge and solder stuff. There are some other guys who debrick but i don't know the link.
Do you know anyone with the charge software already on their computer? Or anyone that can send you the link?
I have a galaxy s2 4g i9210t. I had kies installed and Odin worked fine for all my other phones and read this phone fine when in recovery mode or normal mode, but when I boot it into download mode Odin doesn't detect it and I get an error say failed to Install Samsung USB Cdc device driver. So my first instinct was to reinstall kies, that failed so I tried just installing the drivers on their own, that also failed. I then tried it all on another computer, that failed. I've also tried 5 different cables all of which work for my other phones. Can anyone help?

First you have to manage to install drivers...
Until you can not install drivers successfully it will not detect your device..
Are you using window 7?
Because it automatically detects and installs drivers.
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

Try to start Odin in Compatibility Mode!
As in just right click properties compatibility?
Sent from my GT-I9210T using xda premium
No go on compatibility mode. I don't think it's a problem with Odin reading it I think it's a problem with windows installing the drivers as I get the failed to installs driver error every time.

You need to get your phones USB system drivers installed or it is not going to find your phone no matter how many cables you use. You need to get the drivers that are there off and get a good clean install done. Find the right drivers "Samsung" windows for your flavor OS and install them on the computer. It should work fine then.

Well it's stock at the moment so I'm using kies for the drivers or the driver pack. But I'm trying more clean installs now.

Do you have acces to another pc My pc would never work with odin. I had to use my wife. I never figured out what the issues was but try different pc if possible.
I'll try another PC today, the problem is I only have access to an old one but I'll try

No go. I even tried to do it on a friends PC who just flashed his s2 perfectly and it still says failed to installs driver. (at least it didn't blue screen his PC!!)... This has made me think that it may be an issue with the phone itself

Hello,
I did an ICS OTA update for my Atrix 2 here in India. After that I tried the mentioned root mechanism as given in the DEV section. (I was root in 2.3.6). To my utter dismay I found that adb cannot detect the device. I tried reinstalling latest Moto drivers umpteen number of times with no avail. I came across a thread which says factory reset is the only way to get it detected by adb. What a pain!
Does anyone have any other work around for this? Will be grateful for any help.
Thanks,
Sayantan

(And tried all possible combinations- install drivers with usb debugging selected, deselected, machine reboot and the lot.)

Are the right moto drivers installed? If you type "adb devices" what does it say?
You need to update your drivers. If that doesn't get it immediately, reboot your pc and you'll be good to go.
I installed the latest drivers, thrice, from the link here that gives the root method in ics. (and rebooted too). Did not work. Adb devices says "no devices found".

Try another usb cable.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784689
The phone requires a factory reset. Without that it wasn't identifying itself as ADB interface.
Had to do a factory reset finally. Damn! Got adb working and rooted. Anyone tested the overclocking thing in ics? Working fine?
