Do you wish that your soft keys would stay lit up a bit longer? Is three seconds just not enough for you? Well, your wait is over.
With the help of wasupwithuman from the Fascinate forum, I was able to port his mod to the Mesmerize and the Showcase. He is the creator of this for the Fascinate, so all credit goes to him. The original thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826278
I have made three versions so you have a choice of how long your soft keys will stay lit. There is a 10sec, 20sec, and 32sec version for both phones. You may ask why I used 32 seconds. It's because wasupwithuman has already done the discovery process and found out that this is the maximum time that you can put in and the mod work.
Download the one you want and put it on your sdcard (or get all three so you have them).
Make a backup. This changes part of your framework, so if something goes wrong, you'll want a way out. I am not responsible for what you do to your phone.
Flash the zip from recovery.
Wipe Dalvik.
Reboot.
---I should also mention, I do not have a Showcase. So far reports are good, though.
I have also added Undo.zips for both phones just in case you want to flash back.

Thanks. I had several people asking me for this, and since I needed to learn to work in the jar files anyway I figured I'd give it a shot. I also didn't know about that app. That would definitely be good for people who wanted something longer than the 32 seconds that this can do or didn't want to mess with their framework any more than they had to.
Works great on the showcase. Thought I had a boot loop at first but it booted after a while. Thank you for working on the showcase you're doing great.

This works great on my phone (voodoo kernel with superclean rom). I have the 10 sec version installed and working like a charm.
Tried the 20 sec version on a friend's Mez and it doesn't seem to do anything. Voodoo kernel, stock rom. Installed it from zip, wiped dalvik...no 20 sec backlight. Tried it twice now.
Is there some dependency I'm missing?

Cool, thanks. I'll try the 10 sec version on her phone in the meanwhile.
*Update*
Tried the 10 sec version...that didn't work either. Here's exactly what I'm doing:
1. Copied the files from my phone to friend's phone via bt
2. Turned off her phone and booted into recovery (CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery)
3. Installed zip file from sdcard
4. Wiped Dalvik from advanced menu option
5. Rebooted phone

That's very odd. All three work on my phone. What makes it even more odd is that you are are able to get it working on your phone, and moving the same file to her phone to use it, and it doesn't work on her phone. You are doing everything correctly, it just doesn't seem to be getting there.
Does the reboot take an extra long time? 2-3 minutes with a lag between the sound and boot animation.

OK, good. Boot time should be longer. I'm just really curious as to why the isn't working. Is she running a ROM? Also, are you running a ROM? If there is a difference there, it could explain it. All of the ROMs available right now are fully deodexed, and so is this bit of framework. If her framework isn't, then that might be the problem, but I can't say for sure.

Good work on the mod Glad you got it working.
As for it not working... This mod will not work if your not deodexed. So if she is on stock then that is why it is a no go.

A switch to the PnP ROM will take care of it and she can keep the stock look if she wants.
Hey all !
I've bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Rogers, here in Canada. The model on the box clearly states SGH-I727R. I've managed to get it rooted and I've installed Sky-ICS 7.04 custom ROM on it. Everything went fine but I'm having a small issue.
The 4G signal keeps dropping. I can call just fine but about 10-15 seconds after the call ends, 4G drops and I can't use data anymore.
Everytime I want to use the Internet, I have to make a call first then I can use it but as soon as my phone goes on sleep mode, 4G shuts down and I've got to do it all over again. I've tried calling Rogers Tech support but they told me I'm registered on the network and that I should normally be having signal.
I'm pretty sure this is a newbie question but I'm new to Android and I haven't found much help by searching the forums so far.
Edit : The "Turn on Plane Mode" thingy doesn't work at all. Also, Rogers Tech suggested to manually search for a carrier and select Rogers but that didn't change a thing. Also, selecting Automatic Mode doesn't do a thing.
search for forums for the darkside script, and the ucla3 modem. reboot into cwm amd under mounts and storage format cache, data and system. Then flash darkside. Then ucla3. Then skyics. Reboot and let phone sit for 20 min, then reboot again. report back to us :-D
Been a couple hours now and it's still up and running. I'll post results tomorrow morning.
Thanks a lot :-D
I'm guessing my instructions worked then. Hit that thanx button bro ;-)

I let my phone recharge overnight. When I woke up this morning, it wasn't working. Rebooted, still wouldn't work. I had no use for it so I let it sit on my desk till I got to work. As we speak, it appears to be working. It seems intermitent but it works twice as often now O.O
What I did :
- Flashed DarkScript
- Flashed UCLA3 Modem (How come is that file like 350mb?)
- Flashed Sky-ICS Speed 7.0
- Applied Sky-ICS 7.04 Update
Anything else I've missed ? I've seen another post where someone explained the same thing but with UCLA3 Kernel + Faux Kernel. Should I try that ?
ur flashing a ucla3 rom lol, the radio is only 20 mb. Ur flashing a rom ontop of another rom, no wonder its not working

Nope. Still no luck. Flashed DarkScript, flashed UCLA3 Radio then Sky-ICS 7.0 and 4G still drops randomly.
Not sure what's left to do at this point ...
This seems a very useful topic (at least to me )
So what is the sequence of flashing? :
1. ROM
2. script
3. radio
Do we have to wipe the data every time we flash each of those
Are you doing the wipes that were suggested?
After all this flashing and running different stuff you've probably got loads of crap in your caches.
I believe the order is
1. Script
2. ROM
3. Radio
but I did Script, Radio THEN ROM, which I believe is incorrect, unless I am mistaken

Reinstalled Stock Rogers ROM. Did all previous steps. Tried to flash custom Boot Animation instead of TPC V3 animation (Yeah, I switched from Sky-ICS to TPC as I thought I'd check if it is ROM-related...). Phone was stuck on Boot logo for a good 15 minutes. Pulled battery, re-flashed using Odin + Stock ROM. BSOD while flashing.
Go Windows !
I'm re-flashing using Odin.
I'll keep this thread up-to-date as much as possible.
Edit : Flashing worked. Yay for unbricked phone !

Seems to be working so far under TPC V3, starting from Stock ROM + DarkScript. 4G icon disappears when under WiFi(Which is normal, I guess) and reappears whenever it uses 4G(SMS/Call).

Wipe Cache/Dalvik and data.
DON'T use the device after the first boot, let it just sit there alone for 10 minutes, reboot it and start using it after, works for me everytime, i guess it's just cache regenerating all over again which can cause slow performance and can get corrupted sometimes causing freezes.

Did you follow the steps ONE BY ONE on the CM9 thread? you should use the flashing from stock method, all of the steps.
If you did that, try another base rom (XXKPU) and then flash CM9 on it.

If it was working fine before you turned it off, it's probably not a brick.
Maybe it's a hardware failure?
Try using the reset button between the speaker and the camera and try to turn it on (Search to find pictures about it).
If that doesn't work, keep trying to access download, if that also doesn't work, it's probably hardware related, although that in my opinion would be weird.
Hi guys,
I'm trying to find a Android 4 ROM/ Kernel that doesn't randomly reboot my MT4GS. So far no luck with CM 9.1 from scverhagen r8, r9b, r7b and the experimental 10a3, AOKP 4.2, CM 10 has been most stable of all so far but drains battery soo fast and also got me random reboots or shutoffs sometimes... The other ones usually reboot very fast after flashing. About 10 minutes after that, at least if the phone sits idle. Maybe when the phone is going to sleep or deep sleep? (Don't know what that is exactly)
Since these ROMs seem to be very stable with a lot of you guys, maybe I'm doing something wrong? I always wipe and format data and system and wipe battery stats and dalvik cache before flashing and don't use the phone for 7 minutes after rebooting... I have the newest radio I could find in the forums which is Radio 11.59.3504.00_11.16.3504.20_2
As always, your help means a lot to me and is greatly appreciated.

I am still without a clue, even you guys don't have another idea? Haha I don't get computer stuff even after all these years...
Oh I got another idea. Maybe my battery is broken and because most kernels optimize battery use and undervolting etc, maybe this results in my phone crashing or rebooting? Also, maybe a reboot means a problem with the rom/ kernel and a crash (instant shut down) means higher propability for a battery problem?
Man I'm really desperate hahaha

You're having problems with every single 4.X series ROM you flash? Even with the original kernel that is supplied with that ROM? That just sounds SO weird! Almost as if you have a secured bootloader. Even with S-Off, that would keep it from flashing with the ROM. You haven't flashed a different bootloader sometime have you?

If you try to flash a new bootloader the only way to get soff again would be via the wire trick, more complicaed then the revolutionary method but better, at the same time not neccesary.

Ok, right now I'll not try flashing bootloader since everything seems to be normal.
What I did to get last_kmsg:
Code:
Open terminal app
Enter "su" to get root privileges
Enter "cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt" to save current log.
Close terminal app.
I attached the last_kmsg.txt. What do I do with it now? I don't have knowledge to understand it.

I can't remember using a ROM that never crashed, but I'll try a stock ROM if nothing else works. However an old kernel of scverhagens CM 9.1 seems to work flawlessly if battery is not about < 15%. The newest r10 kernel on the other hand always immediately crashes when the phone is not charging. When charging I haven't experienced a crash yet. That's strange and makes me suspect my battery is the problem.

So, I'm reviving this thread, because I stopped writing only because my phone was broken. Now it's back and I'm facing this problem again.
I've tried a lot of the 4.x ROMs here from the forums, but all of them rebooted or shut down after 5 - 10 minutes after flashing. I also tried some without flashing gapps even, but still the same symptoms. Also tested it with my new battery, nothing changed. Even the scverhagen CM 9.1 ROM rebootet shortly after flashing that worked longer previously (guess that was just by chance)
Now I've tried the original image and it works! Ugh. So what can be wrong, any ideas?

It happened with both stock and new battery (Anker).
Thanks, update to latest TWRP had been my next try, if it didn't work now. But it does! Yeaaah so happy Thanks to everyone again. Almost three hours uptime and not a single issue so far!
To conclude: What I did:
Revert completely back to stock with BlueIX6's stock image (except that phone was still s-off and sdcard not wiped).
Then followed instructions to unlock bootloader, flash CWM recovery and finally flashed ROM (see sticky thread). Works like a charm!
In hindsight maybe radio made my phone unstable... I think it's the only thing that's different from now.
Any ideas guys why the phone is so low to 'upgrade apps' after a reflash in recovery when using ART.? Seems to take ages compared to Dalvik....
Yea, the apps are compiling for art
That's okay, as long as it's normal, was taking like 10 minutes to go through the 'android is upgrading' portion (got around 170 apps).
Just got to sort out the poor battery life now, otherwise great phone.

Recompile only happens of first boot after enabling ART. Will boot fast after that.

No it doesn't do that. Boots super quick if I just restart, but if for example I've flashed a new kernel in recovery it'll go through the whole slow recompile thing again. I'm wondering if it is because I've cleared cache and dalvik in recovery, as I've been used to doing on my old devices.?

yeah, ART is compiling ahead-of-time, it's taking a long time because it does all the work before the app is started... well when you're wiping the dalvik cache while you're on ART it should wipe the data of this vm - well it'll have to do the whole work again after that

Yea, but still Dalvik optimization takes much less time.

Well that is the tradeoff of using ART; you are without your phone for an extra 5 minutes for a one time deal.

I switched to ART but every boot up took forever. Not just the first boot on ART. Any idea how to fix this and keep using ART?

I'm having the same problem as this guy. Does anyone have an answer? I've been googling on and off for quite a while (weeks) and haven't found anything.

there is no answer, its because of the apps that you use. for most people, the slow art build up is only upon first boot. with less people, art builds up every boot, but less apps than the first boot. and for even less people, art builds up every boot, with every app.

I found the solution. It's simply an old bug that some custom ROMs had. Recent versions of Liquidsmooth (for many devices it supports) and Validus (every device Validus supports) does not have the super long boot.

Basically, try a more recent version of your ROM. If it still has the bug, make a backup just incase and try flashing a recent version of Liquidsmooth or Validus. Some people have found a bit of a performance increase in Liquidsmooth Blood. So that is also an option.
