I already used the phone the phone for two days and whenever he phone produces any audio, there would be an annoying hiss to it that lasts for another 5 seconds after the audio stops. This includes the lock screen, keyboard etc. as there are sound effects. I'm using Klipsch S4 ear buds and they've been my daily buds for my iPod for almost a year with no issue. When I use the stock Samsung buds or my senns, the hiss doesn't seem to be AS pronounced but still there. Has anyone had the same problems? I'm eager to know because if this can't be resolved then I'm going to need to replace it.

I don't think it's just us, I think it's all the SGS II's because of the bad quality Yamaha DAC in it.
How long do you have your sound? From what I know, the louder the sound, the more the hiss is heard.
I rarely hear it unless charging myself

The sound for me is noticeable when using my IEMs. I don't notice it when using the stock buds or Apple ear buds. What are you guys using and does it have the hissing sound?

I had the same problem...
But it was most noticeable on the first one I got, the second and third return didn't have the problem as bad. The second didn't exhibit it at all but the stuck green pixel in the center of the screen sent that one back. THe third one is not bad unless the volume is maxed out. But the volume rocker on this one squeaks like train trying to stop. I would love to grease it but I am sure that wouldn't be good for the phone.
I hear the hissing too, it's not just for 5 seconds after the audio stops, it's going on constantly.
I have the same issues, which is really annoying when using the Aux cable in my vehicle. It is embarrassing....

I have a fairly large recording studio in my home and a couple of very large 5.1 video systems. Expensive ones. I've plugged the headphone out from my SR into a pair of Bose Roommates, a $1700 Kenwood receiver pushing a large pair of JBLs for the fronts in a 5.1 system, a Soundcraftsman preamp/power amp system running a pair of Bose with a JBL sub, and several pairs of studio quality headphones. The audio sounds fine playing back mp3's, if you consider that mp3's sound fine to start with.
The issue typically presents itself when music is not playing.. while Pandora loads or in between songs...and as i mentioned in my case most notably when charging
In our case I think the car thing is the head unit itself so we are taking it to the dealership

Can't help you much with anything that streams. I hate not being able to call a cab because my phone is dead after I treated it like an entertainment center all day. I carry a 64G iTouch for that sort of thing and loaded the phone with my core of favorite listening material and a few movies just to see how it performed.
I WILL (very briefly) look into it and see if I can duplicate the issue. Being the A/V person I am (15 years as a PBS Producer/Director... after several years as a county government level computer programmer... and an ongoing web development career, all on top of a 48 year career as a performing musician), I'm always interested in that sort of thing.
As I said, I'm reasonably happy with the headphone output's signal. Sometimes it's necessary to run it through a device that actually drops it down to a true line level for some of the more picky gear I have in the studio but that's par for the course with any device with only an amplified headphone output.
It does it with any audio..not just streaming
Any who you and I keep having the same convos cross forums lol

I hate bluetooth with a passion. I am a earbud/headset guy.
I noticed when I first got my Skyrocket that there was always a background hiss, like the sound you get out of speakers when it is not shielded good enough.
Any other owners try this? Use the stock headset or iphone earbuds then simply launch an App enough to get it to play a simple sound... do you here a slight hiss for a few seconds after the sound plays?
Also try calling someone using the headset and listen for background noise. I just got a replacement Skyrocket in and it is making the same noise. If I use the speakerphone or Bluetooth it is fine.
My last phone the I had was an Infuse. It is still in my possession and I retested. The hiss is there but it is so quiet I almost could not hear it.
Please let me know if you notice this, it is driving me crazy!

I can hear it regardless of what the phone is doing. Charging doesn't seem to make a difference as far as I can tell.

Its much worse when charging. Search YouTube for "skyrocket feedback'

If you are within your 30 days buyers remorse or have insurance, get it switched out. I believe its a defective issue. I had that happen on my white SGS2SR and I returned it for a new one in box and it no longer has that issue.

I called ATT up and complained. They sent me another skyrocket that is brand new in the box. It also makes the same noise.
I am more curious to hear if anyone else can hear the noise as I have described it.
Skyrocket Hiss
I'm right there with you. Never noticed it until today because thinking back, I haven't used the headphones yet. I was trying to listen to Pandora and noticed a hiss and crackle. It's gotta be interference because i notice it picks up a little when the screen is on. But It happens whenever there's sound that has or is playing. I notice it during quiet parts of videos or songs and when you unlock the phone it hisses for a second (with the unlock sound) and then shuts down until you go to play anything with audio. I can't handle it. Is this on all skyrockets for certain? Software fix? I'm not paying as much as I did for this to be a problem. I know it sounds picky but it really does bother me during use.
I am not sure myself. I can tell you that I had 3 brand new skyrockets lined up and they all made the exact same noises. I ended up selling the one I did not returnes and got a open box Galaxy Nexus from Expansys. I has it's own issues (like the screen) but the audio jack has no problems.
if you have root try installing voodoo control it helps with audio playback

Man that's a bummer. I'm not sure I can give up LTE now that I've had a taste. I'm going in this weekend to the store and will test every phone they have to see if it's maybe a specific batch problem. I have a couple more weeks of my 30 day comfort zone. This phone is just perfect for me apart from that one flaw. Unfortunately I do try to use it for music so I'm having trouble getting over the fact. How do you like the nexus? I was holding out for that when my captivate fell apart.
The noise while charging is normally not a phone issue and will likely happen with a lot of devices. It's the grounding issue with the CAR chargers and the Headphone Aux in.
I been in Car audio for many many years and have competed in IASCA SQ comps. One of the biggest offenses is 'alternator whine'. Isolating any alternator whine from the sound system was always the factor of proper grounding and wiring. If you run your amp power cable, RCA signal cables and speaker cables to where they crossed the powers cable, you're bound to get the noise.
It all depends on the car, the wiring, the grounding etc etc.
My Galaxy s I has an EXCELLENT audio codec/dac and on it's own is a great player. But in my car as soon as I plug in power and use aux, it's unbearable.
Even though the Skyrocket suffers from poor audio on it's own, the whine while plugged into a car's 12v socket is not Skyrockets fault.
Pull your car into your drive way and use a 120v regular charger and then plug the aux into the car, turn on the car.... you won't hear the whine/noise.
All very good info....but out of our 6 android devices and two iPhones....the skyrockets are the only two that do it.

The issues I have had are not while charging, only when using headphones.

I realllly like the Nexus. ICS is great for the most part and it is nice to be able to flash roms that are straight from google.
Also the phone feels a bit more solid and a little heavier (GSM version) than the Skyrocket in a good way. I do have the grey screen issues at low light levels that other people complain about but at >40% brightness it is pretty much a non issue.
Mine does it too, but it doesn't particularly bother me. I think it might even be a software issue, as the hiss cuts out a few seconds after a sound plays.

Isn't that the strangest part!? I think I could get over the fuzz when music is playing, just gotta turn the volume up a bit. But the killer for me was when I tried using the headset during a phone call and it was a lot more noticeable then I dunno I'm just still so in love with everything else about the phone that I've been reluctant to take it back.
I have this hope where maybe we all got the same batch and they're all a bit defective. I'm waiting until as close to my 30 day mark as possible to ask for another one and then we'll see. If it's still a problem then I think I'll just make due and hope it is a software problem.
Okay so new solution! Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD and see if IT has an audio hiss lol. I mean seriously how many models are they gonna push out before it's over. I'd be so mad if i got the original GSII.

I got the S III a few days ago and so far I'm pleased with it. I rooted it yesterday and got rid of the Verizon crapware and it's even better! I do have one issue though. I often listen to music in my car, and for that I usually use my phone. I'm having an issue with it being to quiet though. All of my other phones and tablets have been loud enough, but the S III is just barely audible when I'm on the highway even on full blast. Is there a configuration file or something I can edit? I'm also wondering if it has something to do with the "Loud music may harm your hearing if you listen to it for a long time" prompt.

That doesn't help me, I don't even have the galaxy 553 or whatever.
You could use Volume+ in the Play Store. Many GNex users used that for their lower than normal speaker.

I just tried it. It did nothing to the volume level. Neither quieter or louder.
I take it there's no way to do it?
Try this. Phenomenal sound. Read the op carefully for all the install instructions. Hope it works for you.

Try playing with it some more. I use the paid version and it works great at increasing the volume.

That prompt appears to be only a benign warning - happens when you have a plug in the headphone jack and then raise the volume beyond a certain point.
This phone's playback volume is good for me using the headphone jack in the car, for what it's worth.

Try awesome beats http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1819353 (note: I just made a nandroid backup and flashed the zip and it works) in the awesomebeats app I set bluetooth tab(assuming bluetooth headset) I set beats boost enable and moderate, enable equalizer: preset: vocal boost, loudness compensation: weak or strong. It seems to make an improvement unless I'm just experiencing a placebo effect.

Ok, so I really thought this would work, but once it hits a little over half way volume level (or the point where it starts saying loud music may harm your hearing), and I try to turn it up, it doesn't get any louder. Seems like it just increased the gain. Thanks though.
I'll try awesome beats next, I just don't need the bass so loud, I already have a subwoofer in my car. ^^
Volume+ is what you need I use this myself and it definately works, make sure to go into each of the settings speaker, headphone, bluetooth and check off audio modifications and use custom eq settings then slide your eq settings up. play around with the settings to get best balance. Bottom slider is volume boost.
I use my GS3 in my car and I don't have a problem. I run it through a horrible fm transmitter and it is still loud enough. When I plug it in at first it cuts my volume in half due to the headphone safety setting which I can't find to turn off. It was an option on my Droid Razr. I'm running the synergy rom on my phone. You can try messing with the equalizer settings depending on what you play your music through that should help. but it sounds like a problem with your radio or your aux cable you are using. Try it in someone else's car or a different cable.

It's my setup. I'm using computer speakers and an inverter with a subwoofer to listen to music. It's all good now though. I found a great solution.
I recently switched back to my Droid Charge from an iPhone and at first everything was working fine. I hadn't used the phone since October so I downloaded the FP8 update and let it install. Like I said, initially it was working fine. Now, I have no ringtones, no text message sounds or notification sounds of any kind. Even when I use a 3rd party alarm app and tell it to play music from my library it doesn't play the music. I've tried resetting it to factory defaults both formatting and not formatting the sd card but no luck. Phone is not currently rooted. Any help would be awesome.
*Edit: Audio apps such as PlayerPro play music fine when plugged in to the aux audio to my car but now that I think of it, I can't hear the audio when it's not plugged in so perhaps it's a speaker problem?
Make sure you can't hear any audio with no headphones plugged in (ie not playing through speakers). If it's happening, the sensor that detects whether you have something plugged into the headphone jack might be jammed. A couple of millimeters into the port, there is a small silver thing that kind of looks like half of a tiny ball bearing. Use like a dental pick or a paperclip to try to poke it and free it, or use 99% isopropyl to try to clean the gunk out of it.

Tried that and it didn't work. Did a little googling and found some headphone jack toggling apps and tried those and they aren't even working. At least I'm only a few months away from the end of my contract.
Has it had any contact with water recently? Or even high humidity?

No it hasn't. It had been sitting my my office since I switched to the iPhone. Yesterday I made a test call to my office line and switched on speakerphone and got no audio from that either.

Found out my company is ditching Sprint for Verizon which means I have to part with my beloved Nexus 5.
Anyway, from what I've been reading on here it seems like the M8 is really the only Verizon phone that can be rooted. I've had a few HTC phones over the years, including the M7, but they never seem to get along with my car's stereo. The phone part works fine but when I stream music via Bluetooth there is always a great deal of distortion in the high end. Especially on cymbal crashes. This makes it pretty much unlistenable. I'm curious if anyone has experienced anything like with with the M8? I've Googled it a few times and found threads about the One X and One M7 having this problem but have yet to see anything about the M8.
I don't stream to my car often, but on the handful of times I have, I didn't notice any sound issues. This was using Pandora and Google Music, on a Ford (2008 model).

Just got my jaybird x's today and guess what. Filled with static. I could not be more annoyed with this particular phone right now. Three defects in one model I mean come on. Speaker crackle. Screen is creased and looks like you're pressing down on a TV and now Bluetooth has static

I can't say for certain, but I imagine bluetooth audio issues would most likely be due to whatever is actually playing the music, not the phone. Bluetooth audio, in general, is terrible - unless you're using something like the HTC Stereoclip which does not use that same audio codec that just about everything else does. You could have lossless flac files on your phone, and 9/10 times it's gonna sound like crap over bluetooth, no matter what the music is being sent from.
I stream daily over Bluetooth and it sounds amazing. Vzw.

Just plugged mine into my aftermarket JVC GPS stereo on a my truck which gets only occasional use these days. Have to say I was somewhat blown away when I pushed some Comfortably Numb into the 5 speakers (Inc sub) and cranked up the volume. Most impressive...
The wife gets terrific sound from her N7 to some small bluetooth speakers we got last year and has no issues unless she's using TuneIn at which point it goes from OK to awful.
I say this to simply point out that the invariable rule of YMMV seems to hold sway here but I don't think the M8 has any generic systematic failure with bluetooth audio.

This is true. But I'm talking hiss/distortion like a speaker is blown. I'm just streaming Spotify to my cars stereo and not expecting flawless audio but the issues I have with the M7 were unlistenable.

From what I understand, it has something to do with HTC setting the bitpool value too low. Which, in itself, might not be a big deal but it might just be a issue with that value combined with my car's stereo. I just don't want to lose root when I move to Verizon.

Maybe the stereo in your car just sucks? Streaming Pandora over BT in my car usually sounds great. I mean granted it's not as good as using headphones, but it sounds pretty damn good.
Also, I streamed some more over this last weekend, and while the quality was still good, it did disconnect once for no apparent reason. And once it happened, I remembered that it happened a few weeks ago as well. Same thing, I was just driving along both times, and my BT just seemed to shut off. I turned BT back on, reconnected Sync (it's damned annoying how Sync never automatically reconnects), and it worked again for the rest of the weekend.

Thanks for the info.
I saw that an OTA for the M8 pushed out today (I think) that was supposed to fix some Bluetooth issues. I won't if the disconnects were addressed.
I'm M8 should be here on Monday. I really hope it works out OK. I don't want to send it back for an iPhone. :crying:
Another OTA? Has anyone else heard this? I am having a really rough time with bluetooth headset outgoing voice quality so some sort of fix would be awesome.

If the phone volume is at max it will distort. When I turn the volume to max while streaming Bluetooth to my car stereo it sounds crackling and distorted. Turning volume down 2 clicks to about 85% on the phone fixes it

It's not a volume thing. I've tried turning it down when I had the M7 and it sounded the same.

Again, sorry, but it may just be your stereo. When Bluetooth streaming to my car I always have my phones media volume maxed and I control the listening volume via the car volume, and it sounds fine.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo? I've had 4 different head units on my car, all high end Sony and clarion and all had same thing with max volume all my previous 3 phones ( rezound, s4, and m8). Just curious if it's just aftermarket decks that have this issue which I really don't consider an issue. I prefer to have the volume lower on the source and let my deck and equalizer provide the output anyway.

No, it's a factory Ford stereo. If you know someone with a factory BT compatible stereo, maybe try pairing your phone to their car and see if streams with or without distortion?
I mean, it's possible your particular phone itself could be bad. I just don't think it's all M8's since I don't have a problem, and because I imagine we would have seen a lot more complaints.
For six months I have been playing music in my car with a one (M7) via Bluetooth, with very annoying vibrations that eventually damaged my car stereo. I just found out that if I launch the media app via the "HTC car" app, the volume is much louder and I don't have those vibrations anymore. By default the HTC car app in the M7 only includes the default "Music" app, but other media apps may be added.
Hope this may help for the M8 too.
By these vibrations detroyed my car stereo, and I had to change it. I am pretty annoyed that HTC doesn't mention this anywhere, and leaves it to the user to find out.

Mine starts clipping music after a while kinda like small skips i have a almost bare min system plenty of free ram sometimes its seems more distorted but i use a volume mod to make it louder. So my distortion is poss from that. Reboots usually fix it
I've been having a similar situation. The it started after my first (and only) brick. Now whenever I watch a video the sound glitches in and out and makes a loud popping cracking noise. Also happens at random while using some apps. Basically it makes noise all the freaking time and there's nothing I can do about it. There's no one that can tell me what to do to fix it because we're the only two people in the world that have this particular issue.. Also I have to put it on speaker phone while calling because the receiver decided that it no longer wants to do its job. But fortunately the sound works perfectly fine when I'm making a call... Should've done more research on this phone before buying it... Anyways if there's anyone who can tell me how to fix it I would be extremely grateful.!
