ROM troubles - HTC Inspire 4G

has anyone else experienced tinny speaker with the following rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285663&page=55
i had v10. and understand this has been covered. I did a search and found a zip file which apparently fixes it. it didnt work for me
this is an ext4 rom
Appart from that everything else was fine.
The i loaded a sense 3.5 rom which fixed the speaker issue, but now i get very bad laggyness after a couple of days. for example when typing a text or on the net the keyboard vibration will not work, then all of a sudden will vibrate like crazy for a few seconds.......
any one else have these issues?

If you are experiencing lag with that rom, then something is definitely not right with your install. Have you flashed any mods? Even though the rom does a wipe at install, I recommend wiping dalvik, data, system and reflashing the rom. If you restore from an app like Titanium Backup, or such, do not restore any apps and/or data that are system.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using Tapatalk

When I install a Rom I wipe the cache, then install from zip. How do I wipe dalvik? I did have titanium backup and restored apps from there so I will delete it and see reflash the Rom.
Ano other recommeddations??
Regards,
Peter.

This is what I have been doing during testing and have been getting some good clean flashes. After booting into recovery, go to the wipe/format menu, wipe davik cache, then wipe cache, then wipe data/factory reset, then flash rom. When restoring from TB, restore user apps only.

Ok I removed Titanium from my phone, cleared cache, cleared davlik data, installed zip from sd card. Rebooted phone AMD set up as usual... Phone was awesome again for first few days... Last night typing on the internet and keyboard began to lag, vibration feedback doesn't work then all of a suddden phone vibrates like crazy as if it catches up........
I can turn phone off and on again and it will be fine for a day or so but then does it again....
It's like its running out of ram or some sort of memory... But in task manager I never uses more than 450 Mb out of 621mb....??
Could it be my actual phone??

*and not AMD.

With this additional info, it is sounding more like hardware. However, I wouldn't be so quick to blame something with the phone itself. Many times, I have found batteries that are going bad to mimic memory issues. I wouldn't rule that out.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using Tapatalk

Apparently its known issue with other phones.. http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus/144354-typing-lag.html

Sounds like memory leak to me.

But I watch the memory and it never gets excessive. Apparently the spell check and vibrate overload the phone.....
Also I should be rebooting every second day ( recommended by developer). And when I reboot it comes good... So I may just have to keep doing that...

What is causing the issue with that different device is not necessarily what is causing the issue with your device. There are different issues that can cause keyboard lag.

Two questions:
Is it only me who uses vibrate feedback? If not does anyone else have this issue?
And is it worth me reverting my phone back to stock to see if the problem is still there?

That's really the only thing you can do to rule out a hardware malfunction. If it is a hw malfunction, you will need it that way for warranty anyway.

[Q] HELP: Motorola Triumph randomly restarts!

My Motorola Triumph keeps randomly rebooting and the battery goes from 90% to 7% suddenly sometimes. I had the phone for a week so far and the frequence of restarts is increasing. I don't have any task killer app.
Is it some software that I am using or it's a hardware issue? Do you think I should have the phone replaced by Virgin Mobile?

Try charging it all the way and using cwm to wipe the battery stats. That should fix the battery drain. The reboots I would try wiping Dalvik, cache, and last first data if the first 2 wipes don't help at all.

I just figured out the problem has to do with wifi. When I turn it off and use 3G instead the mobile becomes stable (so far). Is anyone facing the same problem or it's just me? Is there a fix?
Does it have a custom ROM on it? I've seen around the forums that there has been issues with the MT and wifi on the ROMs

No. But the frequency of the reboots increased after I re-installed the original MT stock ROM.
When I first bough the device it restarted once or twice a day. Now it reboots non stop unless I take out the battery. I re-installed the stock ROM from another source but the problem persisted. The problem goes away when I turn off wifi abut comes back when I turn it on.
Sounds like something to do with the kernel, not the ROM... maybe. I had horrible luck with any and all custom kernels for a long while. Although that's just my luck, might not be yours...
Looks like you had a problem from the beginning... Try everything stock, and if it's still there, return it... Wow my first post in years...
I know someone who had the same problem..
switched to the iPhone 4s...
Same here...
Me too...
I have this problem as well. I am going to try the CM7 mod to see if that goes away. I have also isolated it to WiFi.
Problem solved!

Wohooooooooooooo The problem DOES go away with CM7 beta 8 !!!! It's like magic!
Phone no longer reboots randomly
Wifi is stable and does not disconnect or cause the phone to reboot or the battery to heat up
And battery life improved 300%!!! I now charge it every other day with moderate 3g/wifi usage!
I had CM7 for three weeks so far and my frustration turned into happiness! It's just amazing how changing the software makes a HUGE difference!! Before CM7 I always felt like smashing my MT because of the hard time it gave me!
I followed the instructions on: http://www.motorolatriumphhacks.com/
i am having the same problem.I am running cm9 with latest update, out of know where my phone started rebooting on its own or while i was doing something or playing a game and it is doing it more and more. What should i do.

as far as ive seen with both cm7 and cm9, random reboots houldnt be an issue anymore, but for other still having the issue it usually comes from about 4 things over the rest
1. faulty hardware, which normally isnt the case, if faulty hardware was the issue you'd probly be seeing more then random reboots, but its still possible
2. Rom didn't take correctly during flash, either by chance, or because the phone wasent properly cleared and now settings are "head butting"
3. Running a custom rom in which you can adjust the cpu and the settings are either to low or to high, both can cause reboots
4. Most common one ive seen by far outta them all, Apps, certain apps especially after some updates will "play tricks" on the device and for some reason cause reboots sometimes, usually the next update of said app will resolve the issue but not always, so if you find an app thats the culprit you can notify that apps developer
you can always try and go back to 100% stock and see if the issue is still there but if your like me you probly hate the stock froyo by now lol
It may seem painful or whatnot but unless you find exactly what may be causing the reboots the best bet overall would be
Do a complete Fresh install of whatever rom you use, dont flash anything besides the rom and gapps if needed, also dont restore any backups yet, just to be sure
Once the fresh new rom is booted i turn the phone off then back on for safe measures lol
Now if you can lol try running the phone with No aftermarket apps besides any/if any that came on the rom, if the problem is gone you know for sure here that it was one of your apps
then 1 by 1 install your apps and give it some time in between app installs to see if the problem comes back and hopefully this way if it does youll know which app is causing troubles
FAQ
To quote directly from my FAQ,
"Reboots on Android are a pain, and can be attributed to multiple sources. I’ve been able to successfully reduce the amount of reboots that I get, but never eliminate them… Anyhow, here’s some troubleshooting information:
1. Format SD card in Windows (back up your SD card data first!) Make sure you format to FAT32. Don’t try formatting it in Linux. I have done this before and the phone wouldn’t boot up!
2. Slightly overclocking prevents some freezes.
Under Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Performance overclock the max speed to around 1300-1400ish. This should speed the phone up, but not to the point of the thing overheating
3. Fix SD Card permissions. Do this by booting into Recovery (You can do that if you have this ROM installed) and go to advanced > Fix SD card permissions. Now reboot.
4. Do not use Firefox, except the Nightly builds. Firefox has went through drastic speed and performance improvements recently, but the older builds, despite being called stable, are so slow, they will make the phone freeze and reboot. Yes, this includes Aurora. UPDATE: All Firefox versions except stable (ironic, eh?) have been used by me personally and have not made my phone reboot. Make sure you’re on at least version 14. (This one doesn't apply as much anymore, I need to update my FAQ!)
5. Give the phone a break from time to time. After intensive gaming for hours on end, the phone will often reboot while exiting a game.
That’s all the tips I have. I managed to drastically reduce my reboots by doing these, but not eliminate them completely. I hope g60madman or mantera find some hidden timeout value in the kernel (if one exists, like the auto reboot on BSOD in Windows) and either lengthens the timeout value or disables automatic rebooting so if this is a kernel panic, we may see the debugging details and upload them to fix some crashes.
6. Make sure that you have the VM heap size set to be adequate enough. I recommend at least 24 MB, preferably anywhere from 32 MB and up if you want the phone to last a while without rebooting.
7. Sometimes a cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe are needed to stop bootloops. Unfortunately, every once in a while, you may start getting bootloops. This usually due to some sort of corruption in the cache or dalvik cache. You can safely clear them through Clockworkmod Recovery without loosing any data, and this usually fixes the problem. If not, do a factory reset through Clockworkmod Recovery and reinstall this ROM."

[Q] Phone Issue

I done several different searches and can't seem to find an answer.
Well, first off, I am not a newb to Android but am a little new to this phone.
Ok, well, I originaly rooted my phone and was using Stock FW for the longest and never had any issues. Then I decided to run a Gingerbread rom to see if I would like it. Used it on Infused GB for about a week and never had any issues but due to work and the use of BT I decided to swap back to a Froyo rom so I could have full use of BT. So I installed Infused 1.6.0 and ever since have had no issues.
Well, I decided to give MIUI a shot and installed that rom. Now my issues started. After I installed MIUI I would get very frequent and Random freezes on my phone that would require a battery pull. I enitialy thought it was a bad flash. So I Wiped Data/Cache/Dalvik and reflashed, well the problem still persisted.
I decided to do few tests to see if I could determine what was causing it. But when I say its random, its random as ****. The only thing that is persistent is it only does it when my screen is off. I read somewhere that a CPU OC program could cause this but I do not have one installed or anything to that nature. never had as matter of fact.
After many hours of trying to fix the issue I was having with MIUI I decided to go back to Infused 1.6, however. Again, Wiped everything and flashed Infused back and guess what, I am still having this problem and its beginning to give me a headache.
Steps I have taken so far.
Wiped Data - Cache - Dalvik Cache
Fresh Flash
ODIN back to stock and started over.
Thought it was possibly a corrupt Kernal install so changed that around.
After all of the above, I am still experiencing random phone freezes after the screen turns off and I have to pull the battery to get the phone to respond.
Any suggestions.
I'm not a developer so I dont have any advice; however have you looked in the MIUI Q&A thread? And if so, why not try posting there?
Also, bump. Because I haven't had this happen, doesn't mean it won't happen and it'd be nice to get an answer. :-D

I looked in the MIUI Q&A but its not an issue with just MIUI, its happening with any rom I flash. I am not sure what borked on my phone but its quite annoying.
Are you restoring anything using TiBu when moving between ROMs? Make sure you don't restore any system data. And try without restoring any apps at all. Could be a case of some random app that's freezing up the phone.

GS4G keeps kicking/backing out of apps randomly

I have a customer that is on their 2nd GS4G and still having the same issues.
Rougly 20 times a day they will try to access any app, (sms, phone, games, ect) and it goes to it and then backs out of it.
I have hard reset and that hasnt fixed, so I exchanged for a new phone and this phone is doing the same thing.
I do not think that it is an ap, as they had this problem after the hard reset and before re-downloading aps.
Any thoughts??
thanks
are they on stock, or a custom rom?
if it is stock, did you do the factory reset with the sd card out? did you clear the cache prior to and after the factory reset?
if it is on a custom rom, then they probably have cwm installed. did they clear cache, clear dalvik cache, and then fix permissions?
make sure the sd card is out when doing a factory reset. remember to let the phone sit for 10-15 minutes after the reset. reboot the phone once it sits.
also try formatting the sd card on the computer and then on the phone.
completely stock.
Yes it was factory rest without the sd card.
both phones have the same issues and had different sd cards with each. This issue is appearing on 2 consecutive, bone stock phones (no additional apps dl'd)
This happens a lot when you are out of memory, or when there's an issue with permissions, which can be easily fixed with the "fix permission" options in cwm.
Though, on a stock new device this should not happen. I'd recommend installing one of those memory cleaners, like 360 cleaner which is a widget, just tap it and it will clear around 60mb of memory. Although those 60mb will come back again quickly because android manages ram its own way.. But it does help sometimes.
Other than that, fixing permissions usually help.
However I'm with you, this phone sure does have this issue and it happens a lot. A lot more than we dare to admit. In fact, this is my first Android device but I think we're too complacent if we brag about this phone because it has a lot of issues whatever rom you might be on (because I've tried them all)

wow I was unaware that a flagship device from a year ago cant even handle its memory correctly.
Looks like they may end up swapping out for sensations. I cant have my customers bringing their phones back every two weeks if "thats how the phone just is"
thanks guys
Hey, that wasn't a technical answer, I'm no expert, just another kind of unsatisfied user. I just can't see how devices with less memory can work at all.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I know
but if this seems to be a common occurance, its an unaceptable one
Try looking at the capacitive buttons on the bottom. When this happens, are they blinking abnormally? Does the settings menu ever pop up on its own? These buttons are prone to failure (even though it's not really a "button"), and that will back out of programs itself. If this is the case, I have posted a workaround for it that is satisfactory (building it right would be better of course!) search the q&a forum for capacitive button workaround, and if you are doing this fix then use virtual button bar from the market. It works the best and is free.
honestly, I feel a customer who has gone through now 4 phones, should have to do anything to have a working phone, either way, they opted to return and get HTC Sensations instead, so all is well

Am I the only one with battery issues?

Inspire 4G with Jellytime as my current rom. Ever since I've been running ICS and now JB I've had issues with my batteries. After charging the battery fully, whether in my phone or in an external charger I boot my phone and when it starts it shows no battery power and automatically shuts down. If I boot into recovery I don't have that issue but the battery level still shows zero. If I boot with the usb plugged into the computer or AC outlet and plugged in the phone it will start fine but it will show zero battery until I unplug the usb cable then it will show 100%.
I have a second Inspire and it the same thing so it isn't specific to my phone. I have not seen this on a GB rom on either phone. I have 6 spare batteries (my son has an Inspire and his does this sometimes but not always), 4 Hyperion and 2 htc batteries. Sometimes with the htc battery the phone will boot normally.
It does not happen on a Gb rom? Have you tried that after the issue began?
I am assuming you are full wiping.
Format data/data factory reset.
Wipe dalvik
Wipe bat stats (just in case)
Format all partitions except sd card.
Does it happen right after a clean flash? Not downloading/restoring any apps.
Try booting without the sd card.
Have you tried cleaning the contacts? I think you mentioned it also happens on the other inspire. Are both running the same OS and apps?
Try it with only the htc batteries and not the hyperion.
After this, no idea.
Edit: I believe there was a post several months back with the same or similar issue as yours. Can't remember if it was in the Q&A, general or over the dhd forum.

thanks for the help!
It sounds as a software issue related to ICS/JB only. Very odd.
To simplify the testing, try existz rom. The last one I tested was br5t2 and the reports for B5 sound good.
You know what to do, but boot without the sd card (if you have anything in the sd card).
I would wipe everything. Shut the phone off. Pull the battery, wait for I don't know... An hour? Watch some tv, spend time with your family then flash the rom and booting without the sd card. You can try this if the normal procedure doesn't work.
Heck, if this doesn't work maybe your two inspire phones don't like ics? Perish the thought.
Are you using cwm or 4ext? Shouldn't make a difference.
I'm just throwing ideas out there.

When I flashed ics on mine and then tried to restore apps,( from when I was running gb), my phone would freeze and reboot several times, I since reflashed ics and put fresh apps on my phone and it runs great. If your backed up apps were from when you had gb, then they are probably doing that to your battery.

[Q] Can't Connect To Camera

I feel like I've done everything that has been mentioned and I have still had no luck getting my camera to connect. It used to only happen maybe once a month or so and I would just restart my phone and the problem would be gone - no big deal. Now it's been 3 days and no camera. I've rebooted my phone, cleared the data, cleared the cache. Both cameras don't work. I'm out of ideas. Should I request a new unit be sent to me?
Did you try a factory reset (assuming you're on stock)??
If you're using a custom rom, dirty flash the rom or do a clean wipe/install and see if the problem goes away... If it doesn't, it's most probably a hardware issue.
