I am not talking about "lag" in the traditional sense of how the term is used around here (choppy animations).
But starting with every ICS ROM I've tried, when I turn on my lock screen after a while of having the screen completely off, the clock always shows a number which is 3 or 4 minutes behind, and quickly updates it to the correct time in less than a second. I last saw this on a POS Moment running hacked Froyo. My NS4G with Gingerbread never had this problem.
Any ideas?
This seems somehow related to my Beautiful Widgets SuperClock widget. When I remove that widget the problem goes away. That doesn't make sense though since I used that exact same widget on Gingerbread. :-(

Does anyone else notice it taking longer to update the screen when coming back from standby with Sense 2.5 roms? I've tried a couple different ones now and they all take considerably longer. I end up having to look at a real clock when trying to take a quick glance at the time on the phone, since the time it takes to refresh varies and can sometimes be up to 10 seconds.
Do you mean the 'clock flipping animation'?
That is an intentional delay so you get to watch the clock flip. Sadly.
I believe it can be disabled so it directly shows the current time.
No, I already turned that off. When this happens, the only thing that updates instantly is the top bar (probably because that is not part of sense), the rest of the screen sits with the last image that was displayed when the screen was shut of with the "hourglass" spinning in the center before it finally updates to the current information. It's other words it's more than just the clock that lags, it's the entire sense 2.5 portion of the screen.
Yea , happens to me all the time . Regardless of what ROM I'm using .
Im running mightyrom and I turned off the flip clock animation and also notice the delay. After 2 weeks of running the rom its become SOOO SLOW its driving me nuts. Anyone have any good threads on how to speed up HTC sense 2.5 on the tp2? I was reading info on someones elses rom and they said they had somehow compressed the graphics so it runs a lot smoother. Almost seems like the phone is severely fragged

try task29, change the pagepool if necessary...

I'm experiencing very slow screen rotation when I re-orientate my Tab, especially on my main home screen.I have two widgets and a bunch of icon on there, and if I turn my Tab 90° it takes around 3-4 seconds to react, then I get a black screen for another second or two, then the icons re-appear, then another second later, the widgets.
I get the impression that the rotation is quicker on a homescreen with no widgets but full of icons, but it's still rather slow.
The original launcher also isn't really amazingly fast on rotation, but it's a good deal faster than adw. In the (native) browser, screen rotation is almost instantaneous, btw.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to speed up the rotation on the homescreen? It's annoying like this, because the Tab is often in landscape orientation when I take it out of my coat pocket, then I have to wait several seconds before it'll react to anything.
Is it using alot of cpu in taskmgr?

Not really. It's using quite a bit of RAM (~24MB) but only about 0.9% CPU.
Btw, here's a short video to illustrate what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjpum75xpZk
(Sorry for the bad quality, shot with my trusty old G1 - btw, I'm rotating Portrait -> Landscape in the Video, but the video is rotated 90°)
I'm currently using adw.launcher and my rotation is perfectly fine with lcd density changes and widgets stretched and multiples on single screens.
It's odd that yours is so very slow. Did you root it and do the lag fix? Or do you have a scrolling widget active and have it forcing draw on orientation? Maybe use ti backup and check your running processes.

funny, I tested 2 widgets yesterday (1 clock + 1 bat) and i notice rotating screen would be sluggish, so i checked ADW cpu usage was jumping around 50-80%
i ended up removing both widgets, and have not experienced it again..
And if u go thru the adw-settings and turn off all the eyecandy and restart what happens then?

Rooted yes (z4root) but no lag fix...which one would you recommend?
Also, I just notice that it gets quite a bit quicker when I use one of the stock wallpapers instead of my own 1200x1024 image. Looking into that now.
Have u tried switching back to stock launcher to compare if the same issue apears, or ex. Zeam launcher?
i recommend no lagfix...never testet it.

Ok, so the wallpaper seems to be the main culprit. When using a stock wallpaper, both adw and the stock launcher perform about equally. I've also applied the OCLF, but don't notice any difference.
Did u notice the dpi for your custom background, maybe scale it down to 72dpi if its higher..
those who tested the lagfix on the tab did not notice anything either, but higher bench scores..
There is often a considerable amount of lag when switching from portrait (my main use) to landscape (mostly used for reading PDF or EPUB text, and sometimes for web-browsing). Clearly the refresh of shortcut icons and widgets appears to be the culprit, it doesn't seem related to background rendering. I tried various combinations of graphical settings, to no avail. I am running 200 LCD density, but I had the same problem with the original value (240).
Note: I use ADW.Launcher mainly because of the "categories/groups" feature, which makes it a *lot* easier to organize my 200+ applications. The other features are pretty much the same as all the other launchers.
People say the lag fix is unecessary since stock tab is quite snappy, but i recently uninstalled it and noticed a slow down with redraws on my screens with adw.launcher. Agreed though any launcher will slow down with more icons/widgets. Especially those that have been stretched by adw

ADWLauncher - I turn off the animations and turn the delays and
overshoot down as far as they will go. I also make the drawer
background flat black with no transparency. Makes for a VERY fast
launcher. I also set the "System persistent" option in "System
Preferences". That seems to help keep Android from killing it off.
Returning to home is dawn near instant now.
System animations (Settings->Display->Animation) is set to "No
Animations". Again, makes things faster and I get bored watching the
redraws.
I updated to the latest version of the Mango beta (7712 i think) the other day and now whenever I turn on the screen it takes about half a second for the clock and date etc to appear. Anyone else have this issue or a solution?
A lot of people are noticing that behavior.
I think it's a bug.. but it doesn't happen all the time to me.
It's amazing how annoying just a little bit of lag is in this OS, isn't it?
Good to know im not alone. Ill put up with it as this is a beta. Everything else works perfectly
When I first "upgraded" from last month's mango to this months updated version, I noticed this too, but I also noticed that the homescreen "flash" was gone, which for me was a very acceptable trade off. I reset my phone to get my twitter and linkedin contacts to load, and since then my screen has reverted to the old form; that is, flashes the homescreen for a second before going to the lockscreen. Awful.
I thought that was just the new behaviour
It was one of the first thing I noticed after updating. I didn't think it was a bug, I just thought for some reason that was the new behaviour.
It definitely doesn't look as clean as the old way.
Yeah, I wasnt sure if it was a bug or a new feature as it seems to fade in after about half a second kind of like a transition effect.
Whatever it is I much prefered it the way it was before this second update as like people have said it just looks like really bad lag.
Mine seems to have sorted itself out. All ive done is turn it off for the night. Couldnt hurt to give it a go if its annoying you
after updating to mango on my omnia 7, I have this strange situation with my lockscreen. is this a bug? anyone else noticed this too?

it used to happen to me quite often when i was on 7712. Doesn't happen anymore on mango.. but there's still a buggy animation sometimes when i unlock too quickly, appears as a repeated top 1/4 of the lockscreen i think
i don't know why, but it's still happening. i tried to power of and on, but it didn't help. i don't want to do a hard reset. it seems that the problem is gone if the music is playing (when the mini player is displayed in lockscreen).
so, i figured out, when that locksreen lag is happening. if you have mini player shown, when you press volume buttons, that means there will be no lockscreen lag, and everything will be like it should.
but, if you go and play a video, and then go back to homescreen, there will be no mini player shown, when you press the volume button, and if you then turn off the screen, and then on again, the clock and calendar will display with some lag (about half a second). this will continue to happen until the next time you run audio player. then, if there is mini player in the dropdown volume menu, there will be no more lag in the lockscreen.
please, try this and see if this will happen to you too. i know it's a small bug, but it's really annoying!
Hi, I have a HTC Droid Incredible and I am now running CM7 and I love everything about it. but, I would like to improve my experience my changing different things. for example the Lock screen delay is way to short. I am talking about when you press the power button and just look at the lock screen for the time or whatever. my question is, is there anyway to make it longer than the 3 seconds that its set on now?
Another thing I realized that you could have different wallpapers for just the lock screen and your default. I was hoping there was a way to make the lock screen wallpaper a live wallpaper while the default something different. Is there any way of doing this? I ask this because i have a weather LWP that tells me what the weather is on my lock screen but i don't like it as my default wallpaper.

Hello,
I owned a Galaxy S with Android 2.3.6 and used the SwitchPro Widget all the time for the screen lock widget, to prevent using the power button to lock the screen. Recently, I upgraded to the S3 and the same widget is giving me trouble. Everytime I use it, it turns the screen off, but immediately it turns back on and it stays like that for a few seconds. It acts like something else is waking it up. Sometimes, it does work perfectly, but it's very rare. I am using a pattern on the lock screen to unlock, but I don't see how that could be a problem since it was the same on my older phone. Does anyone have any hints or experience the same problem ? I tried using other widget packs with screen lock widgets, but they all act the same.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem on a Sony Experia Pro... I've used "zMooth" to lock screen with a gesture and "screen off" widget for that... both used to work well on the original stack gingerbread... but then I flashed a custom ICS rom and now they do what you describe... I really wonder if it's something more related to ICS than anything else.

i'm having the same issues with my galaxy s3, and its quite annoying.
I used to have an HTC amaze that was updated to ICS, and it had no issues going screen off right away with switchpro widget
