At least that's what I think is the cause. It almost always happens when I'm outside so I haven't been able to catch one while running logcat. I've tried both the 10.14.9035.01 and 10.15.9035.02 radios with RILs matched and unmatched, stock ROM and CM7 both after running SuperWipe script, stock kernel and faux's AOSP kernel, and changed to a new SIM card, all with the same result. Any ideas or should I just try to return it and get a new one (I really want to avoid this as I travel a lot and can't wait for a new phone)?
It all began around the weekend of Dec 2 around the time I started using 3G. Before that I was only on the 2G network.
Setting GSM only or WCDMA only seems to remedy the problem but of course WCDMA coverage isn't available everywhere so that sucks. Am I the only one with this problem?
No, I guess not. I had a problem somewhat like it. My device turned itself off a few times a day. Had sent it to HTC for a firmware update, tried a new SIM and heard many horrorstories on the device shutting off without the user wanting it.
Since I disabled automatic network detection the problem hasn't occurred again. At least for now.
Where do I disable automatic network detection?
I am not quite sure but I think it's on wireless settings > Mobile network Settings > Network operators > and then from Search networks try selecting a network manually Sorry I don't really know but I know where this option is

I'm on AT&T, Unlimited Data.
I've had my Inspire 4G for about 4 months and for the most part I have been running Leedroid. Recently, I've been having trouble with not being able to make calls, but able to receive calls and use data. When I try to make a call it drops immediately. As soon as I press Call, it flashes to "Call Ended".
I thought that a clean wipe and flash would solve the problem and I've also made sure that I'm running the correct radio (Suggested radio) and matching RIL.
Neither of these ideas fixed my problem, so I flashed CM 7.1.0-RC1 and again checked the radio firmware and RIL. No dice. I've tried to search around the forums to make sure I wasn't overlooking something obvious, but I haven't found anything.
Also, I do have a good signal when I'm attempting to make a call. It seems to only happen in one part of town and I'm wondering if it's something to do with this part of the network. Sometimes if I cycle the radio on and off using airplane mode it will work long enough to make one call. Sometimes if I go into the Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > and press Select Automatically, It re-registers on the network and all is fine for about 30 minutes.
Side note: My data speeds have dropped from 4000kbps to about 700kbps.
Current info:
Android 2.3.4
Baseband 15.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel 2.6.35.13-cyanogenmod-g87a2eba
If anyone has run into this problem or has a suggestion I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Data can be different at different times at&t is notorious for that. its odd that it only happens in one part if town, that leads me to think that it has to do with towers and signal.
If it was happening all the time, I would think different, but it only happening in one part of town, and it only recently happening, thats signs of tower/ signal issues I would think.

I feel the same way. I'm going to run an experiment today. Using Open Signal Maps, I'm going to note the tower that I'm connected to when I start having problems. Then, I will drive a distance away until I have connected to another tower and see if that resolves the problem. Otherwise, I'm still stumped.

I was having the same problem, more so with data then calls. I too am running leedroid however I tried his recommended radio and noticed a huuuuuge different in dl speeds. I tried waiting a day but couldn't do it. I flashed the stock radio and ril and everything is back to normal from what I can tell. Try that and see if that helps

Yeah, I've tried that. Didn't work. Thanks though.
Just for grins, you could try a different radio. 26.09.04.11 was never released on the Inspire nor the AT&T network. Keep in mind that Lee is overseas in the UK using another network provider, so I would take his recommended radio with a grain of salt. If I were you, I would try 26.06.06.30 or 26.10.04.03. If you're using a Sense ROM, then use RIL 2.2.0160HM with it. If you're using CM7.1.0-RC1 or a newer nightly, then stick with the default RIL (2.2.0018G) because it's tuned for AOSP ROMs and is known to work very well with all stock Inspire radios.
Regarding your poor data speeds, be sure to reconfigure your custom ROM to use the stock APN settings. No custom ROM on this forum (except for those heavily based on the stock ROM) comes with the true proper stock APN settings that are needed for full speeds in some markets. Link to the APN settings is here.
I have a rooted HTC Sensation running SelfKang's alpha10 CM7. I'm a T-Mobile customer based out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I've had no problems of note with CM7 at all on Sensation. But...
I recently travelled to Florida and had no problem using phone and mobile data (outside of generally spotty network coverage). However, I went on a boat tour that took us several miles off the coast and (presumably) out of normal network range. I was able to access roaming when out there, but when we returned to land, I couldn't connect back to the T-Mobile network. I've tried toggling airplane mode and rebooting, I wiped and reflashed CM7 and I also tried flashing a different ROM (EnergyROM), all to no effect.
I've looked around the forums here and elsewhere and seen a few mentions of similar issues, but none of the proposed fixes I've applied have worked. I haven't changed the APN settings from what they currently show, but I did confirm with another working user that my APN login info is correct. I tried my sim card in my girlfriend's phone (an HTC Espresso running CM7) and it works fine and conversely, her sim won't work in my phone. When I "Search Networks", about half the time I get the "error searching for..." message and the other half it sees T-Mobile and AT&T, but I get "Unable to login to..."
The problem seems to be isolated to my phone (after the sim card test) but I can't figure out if it's hardware or a software/ROM issue. Everything else on the phone works fine (Wifi, programs, etc.) I've stopped short of reflashing a newer or older radio; I'm currently on 10.56.9035.00P_10.14.9035.01_M.
Any tips or fixes anyone can suggest would be much appreciated.
Thanks
reset the apn to default regardless of what you can see then do a battery pull from switched on reboot do a manual network selection should sort it for you
hmm...did those steps. I get the same problem.
Manual search for networks either gets "error searching for networks" or T-Mob and AT&T show up but selecting T-Mob get me "unable to connect at this time". This is all while showing no bars.
Did you try a factory reset?

Okay, so I'm sure plenty of you have seen the news about how the dormant LTE radio on the Nexus 4 can be turned on to work with certain frequencies by using the *#*#4636#*#* command.
This command is new to me and so I figured I'd try it out on my Nexus S to see what it could do. Got to it easy enough and switched around the network types for a minute or two. Then when I satisfied my curiosity I figured I'd just change the network type back to the default "WCDMA preferred" and go on about my day.
Wrong.
My phone is now stuck on EDGE. I have turned it on and off, toggled airplane mode, toggled data, pulled the battery out for more than 10 minutes (I know it's very excessive) turned the phone off for a couple of hours, made sure that in the phone's Settings that "Use only 2G networks" is NOT checked, all to no avail.
On the 17th, when I did a speedtest on my phone, my download speed was 6183 kbps. Today, its around 167-180 kbps. Consistently.
I have made no other changes to the phone. And just to make sure that it isn't a Rogers network thing and that it is indeed my phone, I put my SIM card in my old HTC Dream. It got 3G just fine. And its download speed was a few mbps as well (about 2mbps).
I'm currently using CM 10.0.0 and am using the same radio I have been using for months with no problems (I9020XXKB3).
I honestly thought my little experiment would be as harmless as using Android's "Use only 2G networks."
Oh, as it's been quite a few hours, I've done my fair of research and found that people who had this problem somehow lost their IMEI. Mine is perfectly (especially since I haven't made any changes to my phone). It's value in about phone matches the IMEI written under my battery.
I hope I've been thorough enough. I have tried everything I could think of and done my Googling.
Anyone have any ideas on what else I can try?
179 kbps download speed is really painful ...
Put the code back in, and change the type back from wcdma back to whatever it was, this should fix your problem because WCDMA uses different frequencies for anything above edge. Frequencies that rogers does not transmit in. So changing it back will allow you to use 3g/H again
Sent from my awesome Nexus S
Default setting was "WCDMA preferred" and that's what I've left it at.
Why not factory reset?
you can try a reset, flashing a new rom, or if you're feeling particularly crazy, try using the different settings (other than wcdma), and see if it works.
I've tried all the other settings. And I really don't want to resort to a factory reset even with a nandroid backup.
Surely, there must be a straightforward fix to this.
Edit: Okay, problem solved.
Instead of changing the "Set preferred network type:", I pressed menu, chose "select radio band" and randomly selected "AUS2 Band."
It worked! Don't ask me how or why as I live in Canada, but I don't care! I never even touched this menu before. So strange ...
Edit 2: Umm... I can't find the mark "solved" option.
Hi,
I am facing network connectivity issue since the time I entered roaming area on my Matrix 2. It does not connect to network. It keeps showing no network, then for 2 seconds it shows emergency call symbol , then for 2 seconds it gets connected to network and again it keeps showing no network. This cycle keeps on repeating.
I searched for the issue and found that it is issue with atrix 2 software and the suggested solution was to install app called network and choose gsm only from it.
I tried it but it doesn't works for me.
I am able to make a call if I dial number exactly at the moment network appears for 2 seconds.
The only temporary solution I was able to find was to dial self number as soon as network appears and then keep on dialing it for around 8-10 times. Then it gets connected to network for 1/2-1 hour and then again it gets disconnected.
Please let me know if anyone has any solution for it.
I am on JB unrooted and using 2g network.
1) Try another SIM ....
2) try flashing ICS radio.img ...... (you shud know some fastboot commands) search the forum
3) try factory reset or reflash JB ..... it might work sometime
if you are using BSNL ..... then i have my sympathies with you :silly: lol
First off wrong forum, should go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1771
Go back to Stock ICS via RSD Lite 6, try SIM with other phone first and check, do not install apps for network improvement as mostly they just turn radio on & off, in worse case they can botch up some internal default settings. Use this for getting a view on network heat range & in particular tower direction to move towards for better reception https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.staircase3.opensignal&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdGFpcmNhc2UzLm9wZW5zaWduYWwiXQ..
Thanks for the reply...
I have already tried that, its not a network or sim card issue. I have tried inserting sim to other phone and it just works fine.
I put it in general section coz when I googled it I came to know that its an issue with every atrix-2 so every one might have faced this issue while roaming.
Also going back to stock have not worked for anyone. Its an issue with atrix-2 software itself.
You seem to have reached to your own final conclusions but yet please understand on JB 4.1.2 leak there has been no one who has echoed your issue (gps is definitely an issue & for some wifi on some particular bands). Also read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425560
Try flashing the new 4.2.1 ROM based on official leak of 4.1.2 JB as I believe radio is better on it. On JB leak though one thing I can confirm is when phone enters roaming it automatically shuts data randomly and not always & user has to re-enable it. If all fails, fxz to stock ICS and if under warranty claim your stake.
Thanks...will try when I get back to home.
Although I have not reached to conclusion on my own, I search regarding this in Motorola forums and people facing this issue stated that they tried aall the specified methods. They were getting this issue on all os versions.
Please point me towards a link which illustrates issue same as your on JB 4.1.2 specifically.
Hi All,
I've been having an issue after upgrading from a Nexus 4 to Nexus 5 where the phone will not re-connect to the home network (or will only reconnect to GSM with no data) after losing connection. This happens for example when going into an elevator or parking garage; I'll lose signal and when I get back into a signal area it won't reconnect unless I go to the "Mobile networks" -> "Network operators" menu and select "HOME" or "Automatic Registration". I'm using Straight Talk wireless with an older T-Mobile SIM (before they switched to only AT&T). I've called Straight Talk a few times to try and debug this, but the only instruction they've given me is to reset the APN and set it up again, which I've done a couple times to no avail. They claim that the SIM card is good on their end. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thanks!

It sounds like the Baseband/RIL problems I had with my old LG OP2X with non-stock roms. For me, it was fixed switching to aeroplane mode and back, it could also get stuck there, I remember it once took me half a day to get it out for I didn't want it to wipe it.
Any way, may be it's not the same but it could be fixed flashing a baseband, I think I saw a thread about it somewhere around... Also, flashing the full firmware should —if it's not a hardware issue— solve the problem without doing much research.
HI

Hi Were you able to get a solution for this, My nexus 5 does not connect automatically to the network, it works only for manual search.
Please help...
Same problem here. Any solution?
I'm stuck with out any connection for the las two days. Tried removing battery, airplane mode. manual search. nothing.
Tried my line in other phone and it worked, other line in my phone and it didn't.
S4 I9500. Paranoid 4 Beta 4.
I don't have a really good solution, i reflashed my phone to stock and it did not fix the issue. I ended up switching carriers to T-mobile and haven't seen the problem since. It seems it was a SIM or network problem like i suspected
