This.
And do you mean ICS (Android 4.0) or SENSE 4.0?
In either case, I have a feeling the Thunderbolt will not be able to run so smoothly as a single core phone, but we'll see.

Do you really think it will be that bad? im running an alpha version and its a little glitchy, but I attributed that to the fact that its an alpha.

I dont think its going to be THAT bad. But it's going to be slower than Sense 3.0 or Gingerbread for sure. More features, more CPU/RAM usage, etc..
I am confident the ROM masters around here will cut out all the bloat and crapware, and the Thunderbolt will be capable of running it smoothly enough to be a daily driver... but its still gonna be slower.

+1 on this post

When do they plan on releasing 4.0 for other phones?

Looks like the Sensation got a port of ICS... Sense version is 3.5 though.

Google has said any phone capable of running Gingerbread is capable of running ICS. With one core, but no overlays like sense, I wouldn't be surprised to see it run as smooth as the stock tbolt today. The Nexus S runs it pretty well, right?

Any chance of getting a port with samsung's latest touchwiz+gb ROM?

As the title says, will we have a ROM with samsung's latest ROM with touchwiz and gingerbread? I am specifically interested in touchwiz because it has gpu acceleration in browser and the UI in general. I came from a Desire in hope that I will get a better phone. Being able to play the latest games is good, but laggy browser, laggy custom launcher and frequent RAM memory leaks makes me want to trade this phone for something else. Its a huge epic fail from Google imo.
Not sure why i posted, might need to get some sleep

I don't see why it couldn't be done.
I would do it if I had the knowledge, but I don't so I'm going to leave it to the professionals.

Are you running stock? Cause my phone is fine with stock I find it more stable then anything else the only thing I hate is the camera app and the ones in the market takes too long to take a picture, beside that as stock android goes is perfect for me at least

While I would also love to see TouchWiz (I had a Vibrant before it, TouchWiz > stock imo), I don't have any lag issues with my Nexus S as I had with my Vibrant. Did you make sure nothing is on in the background eating up CPU and thus causing everything to slow down?

Yes I've seen jonathon's topic, found it after I posted this one, sorry for not searching before
It's not about the cpu usage, that's fine, I'm only having memory leaks (ram). And the browser sucks when it comes to rendering images and flash content, it lags like hell.

Looking at buying a Nexus S and coming from a Desire myself, this worries me.
Is this guy exaggerating, or is this really the experience? I was expecting it to be just the same as the Desire, if not better.

Yeah that's what I thought I had the evo 4G supersonic and sense have some nice features but I went with cm7 I like it a lot but after a week the rom will run into bugs and it will drive me nuts like whencalling the proximity sensor wouldn't work right or get stock in alot of apps, so when they announced this phone I waited cause I don't like T-Mobile now is in sprint so I got it and not bugs and I miss the camera app from sense or cm7 but I'm happy tho

Believe me, coming from a Desire you'll feel a huge difference in web browsing. The browser in the stock android isn't gpu accelerated as in HTC Sense, so loading flash content or big pictures is practicably impossible, it slows down the phone so much!
Another issue that is bothering me is that the Nexus S has in reality about 300mb of RAM (~200mb RAM are used by the GPU). The system uses about half of it, so you're left with 150mb RAM to handle the apps, which is extremely low. Especially when you open the browser, you're sometimes left with less then 50mb free, which slows down the phone. So everytime I browse the internet, I have to manually kill the app after I'm done, cause I run into a memory leak.
Also custom launchers (launcher pro, adw and others), when filled with 4x4 widgets and have about 4-5 screens, scrolling is not smooth at all. This is because the UI isn't gpu accelerated as well, its handled by the CPU. So unless you OC it a bit, it will be slugish.
I'm pretty disappointed in certain things after coming from an HTC phone (their UI really kicks ass), but the nexus S has a superb display (be it SLCD or S-Amoled), has far much better hardware, enough internal memory (16gb is enough for everyone imo) and a much better battery life, that I can tell it for sure.
And still, all in all, if I knew nexus has these problems with the RAM and browser, I would've probably bought another HTC Device, maybe the Incredible S. That doesn't mean I'm not satisfied with this phone tho, can't wait for icecream sandwich.

Petition For Sense 3.0

This is a community petition to request Sense 3.0 on older devices, I hope that we get a lot of people to sign this petition, please spread the word!
I hate Sense with a passion. But I will sign the patition because sense 3.0 is kinda cool and I plan on porting a 3.0 rom.

Saw a review on the sensation and they said that sense 3.0 offers a minimal update and is not anything you would expect as an update after such a long time. It's pretty much going from Froyo to Gingerbread... barely anything different just little noticeable things. Point is I wouldn't get your hopes up about the quality of 3.0.

I disagree. Sense 3.0 is a huge update over previous versions of Sense. Coming from a Desire HD port, 3.0 has a lot of improvements and cool features.

You are mistaken at what I am saying. This is not sense bashing. THis is stating that the improvement to sense is lackluster after such a long time between updates. I like sense and have always been a supporter of it. My point is sense 3.0 is not a big jump over 2.1 and definitely not enough to make me want to buy a new phone just because it has 3.0.
Both articles I read eliminated the debate on Sense Vs. Touchwiz Vs. blah blah blah. It was purely a review on the merit of the update.

This. BGR would lower the score to a 2/5.
I've run plenty of Sense roms as far back as the old Hero roms on my G1, Sense 3.0 doesn't fundamentally change the ui, but it does add quite a bit of features that improve it, from the active lockscreen to the notification toggles for wifi/bluetooth/etc. I'm really liking Virtuous Fusion.

+1. Sense 3.0 rocks. Makes me forget about ever having owned an iPhone. And if I want to remember, I'll just run MIUI which is still way better!
I just had to chime in here for a min. I have a sensation and my wife has a mt4g. New sense and old sense. The differences are big enough. Just set them side by side and look.
There is no point to petition for Sense 3.0
The Stock ROM is Laggy and couldn't believe I used it for 3 months before unlocking/Rooting my phone.
There are better options Virtuous ROM is Sense 3.0 and can't wait to see Virtuous Unity.
Personally I actually like 2.1 Sense (minus the lagg), just miss it. Sense 3.0 just feels way too different and was a bit let down. It actually turned me off from getting the Sensation.
The new devs on the Virtuous is really exciting and can't wait to see what they cook up.

Even learned to love miui. I use all 3 in rotation throughout the week. Htc is starting to support and encourage devs and the community. Fix the warranty restriction with rooting and we shall all be peachy

Any chance of a sense 3.0 port to droid charge?

I just switched from an HTC thunderbolt to a droid charge because swapping batteries 3x a day was becoming to much of a hassle and the only thing I miss from my thunderbolt is Sense 3.0 (and the kickstand). Any chance of a port?

It's near impossible.
A Sense ROM would be kind of cool, I sure as hell wouldn't use it, though.
I hate Sense. I hate TouchWiz. I hate MotoBlur. I can tolerate Sense the most, but I'd still rather run a custom ROM. The manufacturer UIs generally suck balls.
You know, I sort of wished for the same thing, but then I realize that Sense 3.0 just isn't worth giving up resizeable widgets, the customization options of custom roms or their overall snappiness.
It's fun, sure, but ultimately not worth it.
not happening...it would be ridiculously hard and there are never fully functional sense ports even on aosp phones (nexus s)

Bow chika wah wah
A group of people tried to port Sense (not 3.0) onto the SGS line back in Nov/Dec timeframe I believe. They got a booting ROM, but it was never close to being functional that I know of and had all sorts of issues. The project was eventually abandoned because they just couldn't get things fixed and working. I can't imagine that HTC would have made it any easier to port Sense with the 3.0 version, seeing as they won't even back port it to their own devices (officially).
I really missed sense when I came from the tbolt, but I have since fallen in love with launcher pro. It is awesome with the transistions you can set and the scrolling dock. I think if I ever went back to an htc phone I would probably download launcher pro over sense....never thought I would say that.

Why i feel the htc sensation at 1.5Ghz slower than the Optimus 3D at 1Ghz in all rom?

I dont know why, but cyanogen, and sense roms, still sloow and unresponsive, compared to the Optimus 3D, the optimus 3D its super fast and fluid...
Someone can tell me why?...
And better dont set the HTC Sensation at 1Ghz, still slower than at 1.5Ghz...
My old HTC HD2 stills smoother...
I think is because of the way the processors are setup. They don't seem to be optimize 100% possibly because is a new way of building phones. Two cores instead of one and that might make it harder to optimize and build drivers.
However on the latest ruu with sense 3.5 people are reporting that everything seems smoother.

Optimus 3D stills on 2.2 Froyo, and runs super fast... i mean, the sensation runs good, but isnt fluid at all, and not as fast as the O3D, and other devices. ( SGSII, O2X...etc )
And this CPU is suposed to be the best of all those CPU outhere, because its the most powerfull of adreno, and runs by default at 1.5Ghz, consuming small amount of power.

I concur with you because I had the G2x which flew through everything, sadly it didn't work the way it is suppose to most of the time even after update and LG support is horrible, no communication with their customers whatsover, which is what made ne switch to the Sensation. Even though the Sensation is not as fluid I really much enjoy it much more than my G2x.
So I'm not sure what is it that makes this phone stutter.
I haven't tried other ROMs other than Sense but I still enjoy my phone.

ICS/JB Just not cool.

Am I the only person that is terribly unsatisfied with ICS and JB? I was so excited for them for so long only to be severely disappointed. They aren't as smooth, or as functional as GB. My mother owns a Nexus S and was thrilled with it when she first got it running 2.3.7 out of the box. Since then it's updated and all she does is complain about how terrible it is running 4.0.1. I thank god everyday Im not stuck with it like she is. I almost have her talked into letting me root and flash it back to 2.3.7. My distaste for these OSs is so bad I refuse to buy anything I cannot get GB on. I surely cant be the only one who cant stand the taste of either. Shame on you Google! Shame!
What are your thoughts? Love them? Hate them? On the fence?
I personally like Jelly Bean. I prefer Gingerbread.
Go get an iPhone. My GN is as smooth as butter.

+ 1 To iPhone if she doesn't like through new os just switch. Plus if your not gonna root your android might as well have an iPhone. My ics is like warm butter can have multiple large apps open and still run games perfectly

i dont like 4.x,2.3.7 is better
ICS and JB are so much better than Gingerbread. The difference is like going from Windows 98 to Windows 7. Everything is so much smoother and more polished. And it doesn't look old.
Sent from my Atrix using Tapatalk 2
3.x and earlier is unusably bad. At least 4.x is tolerable.
Jelly Bean and it's false promises of a smooth UI were pretty disappointing though.
My HTC Desire HD runs smooth as hell on both ICS and JB, and the ROMs are not even complete yet.
Do a factory reset on the Nexus S and set it up from scratch. A fresh start makes a huge difference.

Don't people coming up with these issues ever think that maybe they have a hardware, app or install problem? Android os has only improved over time in look and feel.

Whoever like GB more then ICS or JB, clearly is on some meds
Especially the transition from GB to ICS for me was like jump from the 60s to 2000! ( with keeping the awsome Rock songs on the way )
I haven't tried out JB yet, even though I could easily flash CM10 onto my S2. I haven't had a single problem or complaint against ICS though.
I think that's mainly because when I first got my Xperia S, it was originally on GB and I had nothing but problems with it. This tainted my view on GB, which before that happened I used to love it.
Just waiting to officially get JB on both of my devices though.
Velcro. What a rip off!
Jelly Bean :good:
I'm starting to think the OP is just joking around with us.
Im amazed at how can people think that GB is better than ICS/JB. My phone on ICS, runs like two to three times smoother than when on GB. On JB, it runs/feels around 4 to 6 times faster and smother. Everything is so dam great on JB. And we don't even have official ICS/JB libs and kernel. Seriously. Android 4.1 is the best version of Android so far. Period.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
Im not joking. I ran ICS for a week and JB for 5 days. I was ecstatic to return to GB. It's like ICS/JB say heres your phone, but how we want it. I really dont like much at all about the newest OSs. If I wanted a phone to be like every other phone Id get an iPharce. And what I really dont get the most are some of the staple features from GB not being included in the new OSs. GB is easy to use and is packed with usable features. ICS/JB is dopey, UGLY, and not nearly as user friendly. This of course is just my opinion. As unsatisfied as I am with them, I am still an Android guy and always will be. It'll be a cold day in hell before I get an iAnything.

AOKP ICS is amazing for me on my T989. Much better than any GB ROM I've used on any phone.

What "staple features" of GB are missing from JB? I honestly can't think of a single one. And ICS/JB being uglier and less user friendly than GB? I can't believe anyone could seriously think that's true. ICS and JB (especially the latter) look far more modern, polished and cohesive, and run so much smoother. ICS was the first Android version with a really good design in my eyes, and JB made it even better.
So, no, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

As unsatisfied as I am with them, I am still an Android guy and always will be. It'll be a cold day in hell before I get an iAnything.

Just to know, missing features like what? And how is ICS/JB less customizable than GB?

Im not joking. I ran ICS for a week and JB for 5 days. I was ecstatic to return to GB. It's like ICS/JB say heres your phone, but how we want it. I really dont like much at all about the newest OSs. I get the feeling you haven't really used a stable build of ICS or JB. It makes no sense how you could draw those conclusions. What features are missing in ICS that were in GB? There are many many more APIs in ICS and JB, and it is much more capable. How does GB not look like it's from the stone ages in comparison to you?
