i updated my gsm nexus s to ICS and since then and other side of the call always hear himself and it's really annoying.
i belive it's a sofware issue, does any one experience such problem as well?
please anyone?
i found the fix.
i solved it by changing the Baseband(radio) and
downgrade from I9020XXKI1 to I9020XXKF1
now the echo is gone!

Is echo still gone?
I noticed that it disappears after flashing new radio and comes back after some time.
Same thing for me
I have the same issue here.
Funny thing is that if you flash a stock ICS ROM, flash back to CM7 this echoing duging calls never happens. If I flash any CM9 on my I9020T, no matter which radio i use, people always complain about the echo on their end.
No issues, tough, if the call goes through headphones or bluetooth device. Only when we talk directly over the ear piece.
Does anyone know what could this be?
Have this same issue with I9020XXKF1.
Nuhetri reloaded ROM v3.0.0 (ICS)
Callers always complain of echo.
Anyone?
am not sure about this, but someone once told me that if you hear echo in your calls then someone is probably spying on your call, not sure about how authentic is this.

Hi,
I got the XDA Diamond Pro (Touch Pro O2 germany) yesterday.
During a call, the phone generates a terrible, slightly timeshifted echo of the own voice. The voice of the other person is normal and the other person doesnt hear an echo. I have tried it several times with different persons and networks (mobile + landline)...always the same phenomenon...sometimes more or less.
Is this normal with the Touch Pro? Do you also have this echo while making a call?
regards
10mabo
(sorry, my english is probably not the best)
Nobody with the same problem? Are your Touch Pros without echos?
No prob for me. Never heard something similar. What about your signal strength? Do you have good reception?
No problem here aswell.
tried a hard-reset already? I noticed that my TP worked better after I did a hard-reset (more stable and quicker), dunno why though.
Thank you for the replys!
So it seems that my device is not working properly :-(
It´s already on the way back to the provider.
regards
Holy crap! I just got another exchanged fuze and it's having the same issue. I'll try flashing to a new rom and see if that works.
When I first got the phone I noticed that my voice would echo but it stopped happening on its own. I think it was occurring because of bad reception. At that time my phone was having major problems with the data connection also and I figured it had something to do with ATT's towers.
I have experienced this echo, too, but considered it to come from reception problems as it does not happen on a regular basis. I.e. some calls are experiencing this echo, some do not.

I assume you mean flashing another radio rom, right? I have this issue on my Fuze as well. I flashed to NATF's rom, but am still running the stock radio rom that came with my phone: 1.02.25.32.
Did a different radio rom help you??

I changed my radio to 1.08.25.20, but I still have the echo. Do you think this is a hardware or software issue? Thanks!

I had the same problem I think with mine. It went away after a while when I was using NATF v2.2 but then when I flashed to v2.3 it came back. This was because the incall volume went down. So increase the volume when you're in a call and that should fix it.
I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but the same thing has happened to me with both the Fuze and the Tilt. What I think the issue was though was that there was a slight lag between the time I said something and the time the sound came out of the earpiece on the other phone. The other phone's mic would pickup the sound of my voice and send it back to me. Very annoying. The problem was always solved when the person I was talking to switched to headset.
Same issue
I am experiencing the same issue, but it does seem to come and go depending on the in-call volume settings.
Obviously, no problems on speakerphone, which I use frequently.
___
Stock Radio, Stock Rom, no bloat
I just switched away from NATF v2.3 to aruppenthal's ver2 final ROM and the echo has cleared up! Thought I'd share in case others want to try...
Love the n00b video.....but searched for days and found nothing similar.
Brand new out of the box Nexus S i9020a running Android 2.3.6 GRK39F (was running 2.3.4 til it got the OTA update). Using a T-mobile SIM from and in Germany.
Issue -- When making phone calls, both parties hear scratchy static type sound that makes the voices sounds like aliens. Sometimes nothing is heard even though the call connected. Speakerphone has the same result.
Observation 1 -- When the phone is turned off and turned back on the initial calls works like normal. Subsequent calls have the issue.
Observation 2 -- When using other calling apps (tango, skype, etc) there is no problem what-so-ever.
Resolution attempts -- Tried putting the phone back to the stock 2.3.4 ROM.
Tried flashing the 2.3.6 ROM as well.
Phone is brand new but a return is not possible. I am still confident it is a software issue but I am a n00b so that's why I ask you guys.
Could be an issue with the carrier because you stated that this issue doesn't exist with Tango nor Skype.
Best to call up T-Mobile Germany and ask them to investigate your issue.
Good luck,
deltatux
things to try/check
try flashing a custom rom to see if this clears the issue
make sure the APNS are correct?
try a new simcard

It doesn't happen when using the same service with my SGS or SGS 2 or Tab. That's why I think it's the phone.

Used a US ATT SIM and the problem still occurred.
I will check the APN's when I get home and if that doesn't work then I'll try flashing a Custom ROM.
I will report back my findings. Thanks!
Two questions.
#1) Anyone getting caller feedback (echo) on their Skyrockets using ICE 4.0.3? I get that complaint all the time, especially from my wife.
#2) Is there a case out there that doesn't cause caller feedback (echo) or a setting to reduce the problem with the case on?
Here's my "highly scientific" testing process to determine that the case appears to be causing the problem:
There does not appear to be a noise suppression setting on ICE 4.0.3 that I can find. . .that seems helped on GB.
Also using a headset helps. . .but I'm not a fan of headsets. . .
Did some investigation and found a thread on caller echo and how it's reduced if you take of the case on your phone.
While on a call, I took off my Casemate POP! case and voila!, the feedback was gone.
On a different call, tried my Casemate Tough-Case and echo returned, only to stop once I took off the case.
Then on a third call, I tried my NEO Hybrid case and it echo'd but not as bad. . . .
Very thin cases seem to help the echo problem. No case is optimal. So now I'm using my Skyrocket without a case.
There is a noise reduction setting but it is in call only and only applies to the current call. I have same problem but ita a problem with or without case for me.

Yeah - GB had one for all calls. Noticed you're running Silver ICS, assuming you're using the I727UCALC4 baseband radio. I did a radio update before the O/S update. Made some calls and it echoed, so I did another radio update because of echo. That seemed to help..
Have you tried a different ICS OS? ICS Stock? I'd be curious of the O/S affected the echo problem? I'm thinkin' of going to ICS stock with bloat to see if it changes the echo issue.
If you do the ICS stock version, keep us posted on the echo issue.
I've tried a few including leak and all have echo. Running nexus mod pics atm. I have reflashed modem and still have echo.

I had the exact same problem. I tried everything I could to fix it. Even flashed the ICS leak, tried a friends SIM card....nothing. AT&T sent me another one and the problem was gone. It is a defect on the phone. Send it back to them and get a replacement as soon as you can.

Was your problem on GB as well or ICS Leak
Hi guys.
I have same problem with echo my collers hears themselves , tried ICS leak, ICS_Smoothie-UCLD2 and now running on seanz SKY ICS UCLD2 still same problem.
Noice canceling seams to help only for 15 sek. , radio change not working .
On GB everything was perfect.
Any clues ???
the first time i flash a new ics rom, i get echo, but almost like the radio is relearning, within the first 30 - 60 secs of the first phone call i receive, it goes away, and I don't get it again after that.
it may be hardware related as well, if its this kind of echo, fix is also in there:

For me it looks like its a software problem , I had no issues on GB.
I am not going to unscrew anything for now , rather I'll wait for soft solution.
Maby flashing GB radio could help.

My girlfriend has the same issue with her skyrocket. I noticed that if she put her finger over the bottom mic (Near the rear speaker) The echo turned into a complete repeat of what I was saying and it was super loud. I really want to fix this. This is with case on only though. Any quick fixes? I really don't want to crack the phone open as of yet and I am also not confident that this phones innards as the same as the gs2
Turn off noise suppression and/or get a different case.

Actually, the issue was I put on full body protection and forgot to open the rear mic hole after I covered it. Removed that small piece and reinserted the phone into the case and it seemingly gone. Glad I didn't have to do the paper trick thing I found for the gs2.

Recently it's come to my attention that whoever calls my Nexus S hears an echo of themselves during the call. This happens on every call from any network/landlines. I can't hear any problems on my end. It also doesn't matter what tower I'm connected to. Any ideas on what could fix this?
Running stock Jellybean.

So I've been trying some different kernels and radios, and it doesn't seem to ever go away completely. However, running Simple Kernel 1.4 (with voodoo) and the KF1 radio seems to work the best. I'll test it for a few days and see if there's any more issues.
Really not wanting to switch to my backup phone (MyTouch 4G).
Hello, I just recently downloaded the Synergy ROM on my S3 and since I have done that I have been hearing echoes of myself in phone calls. I want to get rid of this echo but not sure how, can anyone help me out on this annoying bug?

I literally went to VZW for this issue, even though I got a new phone, it happened on every one in the store and the brand new phone (to me anyway)
the lady played like she heard it at first but then didn't but oh well, got new phone. try this though man
go into Call dialer-settings-advance settings-turn off noise reduction.
