PLEASE HELP...apps running etc... - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I have all tgeae apps running that i never opened...ones that don't even need updates...i.e.-Facebook...and because all these apps are running...my memory is super low and my phone is slow as hell ...i tried everything...please help me out...thanks in advance...

There are apps in the market that prevent memory use, freeze, applications, and uninstall junk apps. Always use caution when doing any of this though.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

I've tried all them clean ram apps...they work until all the apps recollect themselves...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

If you're phone is rooted, download Titanium and just freeze the apps (also take caution when do that)
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

If you want to keep the apps available for use but don't want them running unless you open them download autostarts in the market. Its 99 cents but I've been using it for months and its worth it.

Thanks for the help ill try those apps...I would like to root my phone...can i do it with out a computer...?...and if not how do i do it...i just came from windows...android is still kind of new...when it comes to maybe b ricking my phone i like to really know how to do it...

Look in the reference Bible, there's guides for everything. Rooting the galaxy s 4g is super easy though, since you can use superoneclick. There's a step by step guide in the Bible along with links for all the necessary downloads.
Reference Bible is in the development section.
Oh yeah, you will need a computer.

have you checked out the first post on this forum? Non-market apps?
Basically you need to use ADB in the android SDK; or Get Root and chance the prefs. DB.
Android central has a app, you dont need to root your device.

App Back Up No Root

Hi,
I am using a Captivate not rooted. If something goes wrong with it and I use a market backup app for NOT rooted phones...
1) When I restore the apps will they appear in the Market under "My Apps" and will it detect updates when available?
2) Will it preserve the settings in each of my apps?
I have so many apps on my Captivate but just scared that something might go wrong and it'll be a pain to restore everything from scratch.
Thank you.

Which app backups apps without root again?
Which app would you use for non rooted phone?
I know of only two good ways to keep everything and they are only good for root users.
As far as keeping your settings... again the only way to do that would be titanium backup which needs root (but does sync to dropbox)
I have deal with building my phone from the ground up with out TB or App backup....
If you find anything that works for you with out rooting I would love to know.
Rooting for the most part is easy and safe (if you not trying to do coustom ROMS) and very easy to unroot if you ever need to return the phone to at&t. I have dealt with it a few times... if you have any questions feel free to ask..
I'm not all about the ROMs but being able to backup and also install non market apps... like the amazon appstore... with out a computer is very nice
Good Luck
PM me & let me know how it goes

Yeah you guys are absolutely right it seems like TB and others all require root. I was thinking of using apps like ES Explorer or Astro which has an app backup feature. I guess those don't work the same?
My Captivate is working like a beast right now and it scares me to think if something goes wrong then I'll have to spend hours setting up everything again.

I would recommend rooting the phone, then you can use any backup method you want.
Sent from a place my wife doesn't know about (yet)
Alright I am going to use z4root to root my Captivate on Rogers then use TB to backup.
Z4root seems to be easiest. Am I missing any steps?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I896 using XDA Premium App
Z4root does not work for the Captivate. If you have a PC the best and easiest way to root is from XDA called Super One Click. I ahec used it to root and un root more than my fair share of time. It is simply and easy to use. And with just one more click it lets you do the off market app install thay I was talking about before. Which you would have to sideload the z4root anyway.
Good Luck

Thank you for all your help. I will check out SuperOneClick.
I was reading the z4root thread and it said it works for all variants of Galaxy S so I thought that would apply to the Captivate.
I never had any trouble installing non market apps maybe because Rogers in Canada is different from AT&T.
Thanks again.

Lucky for you to have Rogers... but just wondering how everything went?

you can backup without root using "mybackup" its free and its in the market, and you can select to backup the app and the data, but if you want to root the "superoneclick" is the best!!

Thanks, maybe I'll try MyBackup first before root.

Just tried Z4Root and it didn't work on my Captivate. Used it cuz it seemed like the simplest.
Going to use MyBackup but too bad it doesn't restore market links unless you are rooted.

Yeah... I had the same thing happen to me... the super one click works great... all you need is a pc and be able to follpw simple directions... so I think you're good on that one

Have you tried this?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hwkrbbt.downloadall&feature=search_result
It worked great with 2.2.2 stock and rooted. Of course it is not needed for GB.

anyway to take a screenshot on stock gingerbread?

Hello guys is there anyway to take a screenshot on stock gingerbread.
If not, anyway to do so without rooting?
Real help is always appreciated
There is no way.
You need root for a screen shot. I thought i saw an app before that didn't need root, but i never found it again.

Get root, and let me know. I'll post the apk for screen grabber. I'm on mobile right now so...

There are screenshot apps that dont require root. However, you have to pay for it in the market, or you can just download the apk off of google.

Screen Shot It for non-rooted phones is a good one. In the app, it tells you all the steps to set it up on your computer and phone. It's not free though.

If you have android sdk setup there is a program from within called Dalvik Debug Monitor. Go to the tools folder and open ddms with you phone attached to usb. this will open the program. You should see your device listed in the left pane. click on it to select, then go to device in menu bar and choose screen capture. There are also alot of other things you can do. hope this helps
I have shoot me, but I can't attach with the sg4g XDA application says invalid file type. Any ideas?

Xda doesnt upload png files. Somewhere in the app, it asks what image format you want. Change it to jpeg.

You can always back up your apps with TB and reinstall back later.

You're making it harder on yourself. Do a full titaniumbackup and then use my debloater. If/when you need the app again do a titanium restore for that app. Much easier than freezing by hand.
ok...
can u just give me a list of the apps to remove?
anyway i just wanna remove those BACKROUND RUNNING APPS
I agree with FB backup->debloat-> enjoy lol
Look at a rom in the development section called SimplySimple he has a bunch of apps removed and he lists them that might help you know which apps are ok to remove

I use Gemini App Manager. It shows you which apps have "autorun" code in them and you can selectively kill the "autorun" codes you want.
Nice

You should still debloat. And help us keep the forum from getting bloated. Your post today could have gone in your previous thread. And consider hitting thanks.
If you want a list of apps you can safely remove try this.
Debloat. You have no idea how much ram will free up. Just do not get rid of Visual Voicemail. You already have a copy of the rom you downloaded- just unzip it, look in the system folder, and there will be all of the apks that come with the rom. If you want those apps back, simply load them on your sd card, and push them using a program similar to root explorer back into the system folder that they were originally located.
If your running Valhalla Black, don't get rid of Amazon Mp3.
I make the mistakes so you don't have to
Why not Amazon mp3?

At first it caused a process related to it to keep bringing up a force close message. The only way to remove it was by removing that process.
Here's the catch- once you remove that process, a process called com.android.xxxx (can't remember), starts force closing, which in turn resets your phone. I was also loosing my signal randomly.
I also had flashed other roms before. It could be some part of my phone was corrupted. I couldn't get a log because quite frankly, I needed a phone that worked again. I would just be safe and leave it alone.
The debloater is completely safe though- just don't get rid of visual voicemail.
I froze the amazon mp3, but all is well

That's the difference. I deleted it completely. Good to know it worked.
