I'm looking for a ROM to install that will maximize battery life for the Droid Charge. Instead of just installing / testing each ROM, I was hoping maybe the community could point me in the right direction?
I've had pretty much the same battery life for most of the roms. I have noticed it is pretty good on GBE 2.1 and humble 5

ROMs do not affect battery performance. Kernels do. Currently the only other GB kernels besides stock that we have is imoseyon's repacked and imnuts' repacked, which comes with Infinity. We will not have very many improvements until we can get the source to compile correctly.
You can try Tegrak Ultimate and undergoing.

Yeah I've noticed its the same for all roms for the most part

Do any of the current kernels for 2.3 support undervolting? In order to undervolt do I need to buy an app?
Unfortunately I don't think any of them do. For a kernel that does support undervolting if you buy or upgrade to the latest setCPU you can undervolt with that.

Thanks for the reply - Should I expect we will eventually see kernels that support undervolting? Reason I'm asking -- if not maybe I'll splurge for christmas and get the new nexus. I'm looking to undervolt due to the fact that most of my work day my phone is sit at idle but still needs to be turned on.
Yes since source has been released we will eventually see it. Now the source, from what I understand doesn't compile right and it is buggy. So when we will see undervolting could be a while. I would say if you can get the nexus. Its really nice and has a lot of development

Most of us who are using infusion (available in the dev section) are using voltage control, pretty much the same thing in a different app but it seems to play nicer with said kernel

I'm using SetCPU with the Infusion kernel as it's the first app I paid for, and I feel weird about switching apps right after I paid for one.
Man it's so confusing to have the Infused ROM and Infusion kernel.
What's the difference between infused and infusion? I'm going to a redsox game next week via bus trip and really need to maximize battery.

For using Voltage Control u need to update the kernel. The default supplied one does not allow to use the Voltage Control app available in market (tried just now to make sure).

Infused is a ROM and Infusion is a kernel. Both can be found in the Infuse 4G development page. I've noticed a battery increase with Infused, just make sure you do it a day or two before you leave to get the most out of your battery. Details are in the forum.

Infused is an alternative ROM which eliminates a lot of AT&T bloat. Some of the things it eliminates are notorious battery hogs. It contains a kernel with mild improvements from stock.
Infusion is an alternate kernel that introduces extra improvements from the Community Voodoo kernel included with Infused, including undervolting and overclocking. Undervolting can improve your battery life at the risk of stability impacts if you UV too much, OC will sacrifice battery for the sake of performance.
You can install the Infusion kernel over the Infused ROM.
Note: If you are in an area with weak cell signal, your battery life is going to be crud no matter what you do unless you go into airplane mode.

Thanks for the great reply. I'm at work over 9hrs per day and when I'm in the actual building my phone bounces between 1 bar edge, 1 bar 3g and no service. If I keep the phone still on my desk it'll be all set but once I start walking around here comes no service.
Is the kernal werth installing? I know its a junk question. And can someone link or pm me the instructions. Thanks.

Are you rooted and have 3e recovery? If not, just jump over to the development section and read the root instructions and 3e instructions.
There is a great guide in the thread for the Infused ROM on how to go from rooted+3e -> custom rom, in the original post.

I use it....mainly for overclocking though. Have not really messed with undervolting yet

Yes I'm rooted and I've been running infused rom for a few weeks now. I just really need to maximize my battery. My phone has been off the charger from a full charge for less than an hour and I'm down to 87%, btw I've used my phone for about 15 of the total 60 minutes it's been off the charger.

Really, time to empty is what you need to pay attention to. Our fuel gauge seems to be a bit wacky, sometimes it can drop 10% in an hour, then it'll drop 10% over the following 4 under the same workload. I think the drain isn't actually changing, just the display of state of charge.
As an example, at one point yesterday I dropped 10% in an hour with the screen off for nearly all of it. Then I threw it on the charger and regained 9% in 20 minutes - even with my tweaked charge current it NEVER does that. I think what happened is that the original 10% drop was bogus, I got it back so fast because it was never really gone to begin with.
I am running Infused 1.5.3 right now and was wondering if I would get better battery life running a custom kernel like Defused, Infusion Kernel 1.8, or Bionix. I just flashed my phone and am new to the Android and Infuse community. I am coming from a iPhone. Your opinions would be helpful. I am trying to figure out why my battery life kinda sucks right now and I am looking into a custom kernel. Which kernel you guys using?

If you install Infusion 1.8 and undervolt without overclocking, it will improve things somewhat.
If it's still bad, uninstall all apps, then install them one by one until you figure out which one is hosing your battery life.
The kernal that came with the infused is working just fine with me. The defuse gave me horrible battery life. But yeah, take entropy advice.

ok so i got my charge 2 days ago and am rooted with Gingerbread leak,
so i have some questions.
First: is there roms for gingerbread? because i couldn't find any.
Second: what kernels are there for GB? can i use PBJ?
Third: now ever since i got the phone it drains batter pretty quick with everything off. and hardly using it maybe about 20% per hour. i tried undervolting with Setcpu but wasn't successful, so what app do you guys recommend to undervolt the charge? or any guides to do so?
thanks,
Check out the development section. Gummy Charged GBE is great

I did, thanks for the reply. now i have voodoo and on the recovery sais enable 100mhv something like that. is that so i would get more battery?
You can't undervolt on gb because its a leak meaning no kernel source.
I think setcpu will let you underclock which would give better battery life but reduce performance considerably.

You need to return to stock, then fresh Odin GummyCharged GBE 1.9RC2.3 if you want Gingerbread as it's really the only modified Gingerbread rom. Eclipse is available, but i'm not sure if the dev still supports it or not. The quick battery drain is something that goes along with the fact Gingerbread is a leak. GummyCharged team has done a wonderful job with minimizing this drain. I have found it actually has better battery life than Froyo. That's just my personal experience.
I am running gummy charged 191 with LPP+ and the phone runs absolutely perfect. It is super fast and smooth and totally lag free. This is probably the first ROM I have ever tried that is every bit as smooth and lag free as my bosses iPhone.
I haven't bothered to update to the new 2.0 as I don't really care about multiple lock screens etc (I used the tweak to get rid of the lock screen entirely).
I have also decided that OCing is kind of a waste of time in these systems so I don't really see what I would gain by any ROM change at this point (although I am open to suggestions).
The only question I really have is, could I up my battery life by any noticeable amount by running a different kernel and if so, which one??

i believe 1.9.1 is running the imnuts otb kernel, so you have the ability to undervolt using voltage control app. This would somewhat help your battery life. If you're a set it and forget it kind of person you could try imnuts non oc kernel which was really good for battery life for me.
Where can the non oc karnel be downloaded from?

uninstall and reinstall in the market, it should show up in your app drawer.. also check your thread in Q&A

Got it, thanks guys for the info.
I made the mistake of installing the paid version of voltage control without installing the free version first (I like to support the devs) and didn't realize you needed the free version installed first to create the icon.

I took the time to tweak and mess with it and even with that, my battery is still noticibly worse. It's the kernel. If I only have ondemand and conservative and can't undervolt, my hands are pretty tied. I'm in the process of going back to Eclipse 1.4 and PBJ now. I'm just gonna hang out on EP4 until we get some kernel source.
Battery is definitely a mess with the kernel, but I can deal with it because this update is ultra smooth with ics fugu tweaks and the new radios are great as well

Another option is you can use tegrak! I 'm on pure FP1 and the battery is the same as before, not worse like most people claimed.
I found after using PBJ, eclipse, and infinity (EP4D) that stock FP1 is better, imo. That will probably change once all the roms and kernels are updated fully to FP1.
I was harsh before and to quick to pass judgment. Battery life feels about the same as before. The overall speed of the phone has increased some. TouchWiz still sucks

Once again, there is no need for PBJ besides UV, which isn't that big. This runs better than Eclipse with 1.2ghz.
