wake up phone with volume keys
This works great. I just noticed however that it made the text in the Recent popup change from saying Task Manager to 4G Network Disconnected, although clicking it, it still correctly opens the Task Manager.
awesome thanks.
Exactly what I was looking for. Now, to find out how to install it (novice here), haha. Already rooted, but no custom roms running.

Use Root Explorer or any other root file manager.
or just flash it.. like you flash any custom rom!
I just need to have my phone rooted and this will work? Or do i need that other rom first?
Widgetlocker also has the function to do so

widgetlocker has wake on any keys, but it cant wake up samsung (phones).
Just used it...
So will flashing it work if I'm running stock Rom but rooted? Or do I need to flash that Rom?

Im more than willing to donate for a rom that gets rid of all this moto blur stuff......there is an app, or process, that murders my battery similar to the ice truck killer. I have to close it every morning
One rom= more roms.

Me too, happy to donate to any ROM with 2.2 on, and doesn't have any MotoBlur nonsense.

identify, root, rename. problem solved.
my solution so far:
1° rooted defy with z4root
2° renamed apps (amazonmp3 & friendfind) with Super Manager
3° automatic app garbage collection with Advanced Task Killer
don't like the blurlauncher but half of the blur widgets. so I am not killing blur totally ... yet
custom rom
I would literally make a paypal to donate for custom recov / 2.2 (2.3? ) rom
for Gingerbread me too!
I don't really care whether any rom would be 2.2 or 2.3. I am so grateful that people that know more about this stuff than me are here. If development continues I am sure we will get both 2.3 and 3.0.
Also, I feel a deep need to stick it to Motorola for waiting 12 months since 2.2 release to actually update the Defy to 2.2 in Europe.
Thanks for all your work, I really appreciate it.

Froyo Stock Recovery
Hi there, I have recently updated to the leaked official froyo for defy and I was able to go to stock recovery and root recovery before updating and I was only able to go through the update through the custom recovery and I did it anyway but since I had the adw launcher my defy got a lot slower and I had to uninstall it and I ended with a nonfunctional home button and I have use back button to go to home screen and sometimes I'm stuck in an infinite loop and can't get to home at all so I thought reinstalling the same update.zip file might help since I didn't want to lose any of the data and settings on the phone, so this time when I used the volume down and power button method it gave me this picture and the botton right corner doesn't do anything. btw I have lost my root as well after the initial update. Any thoughts on how to get to custom recovery or even if getting there will let me re-update to the leaked froyo update again?
To get into stock recovery on the 2.2 from that screen you need to press volume down and volume up at the same time.

Can someone please tell me how I can revert to stock settings as in having a locked boot loader and a stock build........I currently have cm7 (the old unfinished one since it broke like 4 months ago)
I just decided I cant take it anymore since sometimes the anyunlock app makes my phone unlock in my pocket and stays on all day and drains the battery super fast!

Use fastboot from your PC. Everything is controlled from CMD Prompt. Look at Pete's tutorial. Just need to setup the drivers. Check the stickies.

Flash cyanogemod 9 for ns4g then look for a zip that enables the softkey buttons on ns4g (link below) . Finally, flash speedy7 kernel and use bld (via nstools app avaliable in market). If you have any questions just send me a private message.
Enable softkey:

Can you be more specific? Maybe write instructions of what you did to get to the point of testing the network, and while testing... acquire a logcat with adb.
My power button just stopped working for no reason. one day it started to act weird and work very weak and another day it stopped working totally. I seen a video of screen replacement where the person opened the phone and you could see motherboard. I was thinking maybe somehow the wiring got loose but when I looked at the video there was no wire going to power button, What could make it not work? how can I fix it? Thank you
Is there way to bootup phone without power button?
Yes, with latest wkpark bootloaders and with custom kernel. Remove battery and put it back. The phone will start automatically.
Then you can flash kernel from v28b leaked rom. You turn on the screen by pressing volume down button.

I could flash it also through recovery lol. But I really would like to keep it. For now Im booting up phone with os hacking tool through USB what means I can only do so only at home. For now I try battery to not die . Also cm10 has a volume rocker wake option which unfornately stops working when cpu goes to deepsleep so I always must plug headphones in and out so headphone jack is probably next thing Im going to break. Thanks for the tip I will try iodaks kernel .
