Camera - any way to manually focus? - HTC Sensation

When working with the camera, sometimes the autofocus seems fickle and does not get the focus good. Is there any way I can do manual focus? Do I need another app for that?
Thanks

Yes just touch the screen when you are in the camera app. A small white box will appear and you can manually focus.

So long as he's using the stock Camera app!

No...he wants to set the focus distance by putting values like 5 cm, 6 cm or so...
This feature is mostly found in LG's cam appz

Tru AOSP camera on Sense Roms!!

This is the true aosp camera that will work on evo sense roms alongside your htc camera
Any more info? or screenshots etc?
install this like an app?

Thanks snandlal!
Installed it like a regular app.
Works pretty well in both camera and video modes.
Wish it had more options though.
Thanks a lot.
This is a step in the right direction. Would be nice if someone could take this and add all the changes that cyan had added to the AOSP camera in his rom.

Sorry I don't have a screenshot, but if you have used CM6, in the early stages before Cyanogen added all the new features to the camera, it is the same camera. Shows up as 3mp, one user said that even though it says 3mp, it is actually 8mp. I can't confirm this, as I no longer have this camera app on my phone. Can anyone else confirm the MP on this camera? Easy way to do this, is to upload a pic to your computer and open it in any photo app. You can also find the pic on your phone and long press the pic and select "Details". What is the resolution of pics taken with this app?

That's what I thought. I remembered the original camera from CM6 was only 3 and this looks like the exact same setup. I deleted when I saw the lack of options. I wish someone could mix in the changes that Cyanogen did to the cam app in CM6. That has a LOT of options.... lol

Just going to bump this thread in case anyone has any more suggestions?
I want to use aosp roms, but find myself preferring the sense camera, and so am looking for a good alternative to use on CM9/AOKP.
For ICS you try Camera ICS+ or LGCamera - no better alternatives yet.
What I am really looking for is a camera app that has the full-screen preview (as opposed to using about 1/4 of the screen to contain one button (shutter button), which results in images that are full screen on the phone as well. Unless my settings are wrong, when I choose 8MP in CameraZoom FX, the images are not full screen when I see them in the Gallery.
Is there a camera app which produces uncompressed (high quality) images, as there is for Sense ROMs?

G2X Camera Issues

The camera on the stock ROM seemed fine. Now, I'm running CM7 and while it seemed fine before, now I'm seeing dark images.
I took pictures indoor at a Christmas party without flash and noticed there seemed to be a "trip point". Camera images were fine, but when the light level dropped just a very small tiny bit, the camera image instead dramatically dropped from from well-lit to completely dark!
There seems to be a light level where below that, just a very small drop in light level, dropped the light level of the camera image a very large amount.
I was using the CM7 camera and LG Camera and they both behaved the same way.
Anyone has a solution for this? Is the camera different for different kernels like CM7, Trinity, or Faux? Or is dependent upon the version of Android loaded (CM7, Weapon, etc)?
Its same, you need to setup exposure.

No, re-read what I wrote. Exposure does not drop that dramatically.
It's probably the automatic ISO setting in the ROM.
Edit: I just looked at the EXIF of the photos I took. The photos that came out fine were at ISO 500. But the underexposed photos with slightly less ambient light had the ISO jump to high-speed ISO of 1250.
What handles the ISO - the ROM, camera app, or OS?

You seem to contradict yourself. Is the ISO managed by the Camera app, or the ROM? How do you know?

The camera app is part of CM7.
Inside of it, there is a settings button at the bottom right. Scroll down the list. You should find the ISO settings there.

You are still not making any sense. Or maybe you are someone else that just makes **** up?
Look, from any camera app, there is an adjustment to SELECT the ISO settings. Big duh.
My question is, is the actual management of the ISO, such as the behavior of automatic ISO, it is MANAGED by the camera app, or Android, or the kernel?
You do not seem to understand the question, do you????
(BTW, I am on CM7 and all my camera apps have an ISO adjustment)

I just got help. The camera drivers are in the kernel.
You seem o be using a ****ty camera app if it has no ISO setting. Or maybe it has an ISO setting and you are incapable of finding it. Try any of the many free camera apps like Camera 360 or LG Camera.

[App]ICS Camera

I was browsing the LG Nitro HD forum this morning and in one of the threads somebody mentioned this app so I checked it out and am digging it so I thought I'd share.
The app is called Camera ICS, according to the developer it's an improved version of the official camera app in ICS.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tb2JseW54LmNhbWVyYWljcyJd
Features
- Color effects (mono,sepia,negative,...)
- Silent mode (no shutter sound, might not work on some devices)
- Picture quality setting (low/medium/high/ultra)
- Video bitrate selection (normal/2x)
- Video stabilization on/off (only 4.0)
- 720p face effects (only 4.0)
- Panorama mode and time-lapse video on Honeycomb tablets
It's not a perfect camera app but for some of us it's perfect for our use. Like me. If I want or need something better then I'll bust out my DSLR. I like it and now use it as my daily camera app. I've done very little testing...taken some pics with this app compared to stock app, recorded a quick video with both and here's my opinion so far:
Faster focus
Better video recording
Less time between shots
Fewer options
No full screen viewfinder
Have to double tap pics to view them full screen
But other than that, it's lovely and fits perfectly with my ICS themed phone.
Trying now
Edit: LOVING THiS CAMERA....try it out

**Edit**
Tested again, stock camera app came up but fc'd and the ics camera immediately came up. I went to manage apps and cleared data for the stock camera app, froze the stock camera app, now its all good.

Yes sir....it doesn't have drag to focus but does have tap to focus....tap the shutter button, it'll focus and take the pic. And it focuses quick too.
I tried this a few weeks ago and thought it was awful. The stock 2.3.6 is much better than ZOOMfx or this ICS one.

Thats the lovely thing about the Market, u have plenty to choose from. We all have different needs/expectations so its nice to have options......I have used stock, CameraZoomFX, Camera360.....I prefer ICS Camera for its faster focus, better quality pics and overall speed. It's also not bloated with a bunch of features I don't need so for me its perfect.

Ah, there it is . And right you are, it focuses very quickly.
I think this could be my default camera. Panoramic mode is flawless, and although it has ads... well, that's why we have a hosts file . There's only one more thing that bothers me - barely any integration with the default gallery. I think that the default gallery is actually quite functional and has a bunch of settings that are lost when using this app.

Glad you like 'em. QuickPic is my favorite app of all
QuickPick is indeed great.
I actually think that, while ICS Camera is definitely better than the stock 2.3.4 camera, the improvements with the 2.3.6 camera outdo it. With the stock camera it focuses very quickly especially in low light, and although the theme isn't as pleasant on the eyes it is more configurable. Additionally, the video recording capabilities of ICS Camera are very limited. If you take a video in portrait, it is skewed, stretched, and cropped to be in landscape. Also since I'm on 2.3.6 and I haven't edited my hosts file the camera's ads are pretty annoying.
Just my opinion but I'm sticking with stock.

He wants to use instagram... And only has problem with the advanced camera inside of instagram. Just disable that option and you're good to go if your stock camera is OK. No sense using a third party camera of the problem is app specific.

Oh ok...
Just wondering... are you talking about an ICS ROM? Or GB? I think the OP has lost interest after starting the thread, and left us here to squabble!!
If you ask me, i think this problem is app centred, and I encountered it even on Instagram running on GB 2.3.5 (I'm running Endymion - Sense 3.5) where the stock camera is the best you'll find for the Desire S on any ROM.
I'm using stock ROM. Obviously I'm aware I can disable the option of using Instagram's in-built camera, but this is not the solution I'm hoping for I love Instagram filters but I don't like the fact I have to come out of the app and open up stock Android cam app, resize it, and go back again. Using Instagram's advanced am feature is so much better.
The rest of the image is fine and the option works perfectly APART from this one really ruining fluorescent pink line down the left side of every image.

Well, that's a bug with the app... sit tight, with Instagram's growing popularity, they're bound to roll out updates with fixes to the camera anytime soon!
Regardless, there's nothing you or I could do to fix an app issue. Instagram will have to fix that.
When you still experiencing this using Instagram camera try to switch to front camera take a shot, then revert to back camera. Pink line gone now. Works for me.
