[Q] How to improve sound quality during video recording

Is there a way to improve the sound quality during video recording on the Sensation?
When recording loud music in a club or a consert, the quality is realy bad.
I guess the microphone input level is to high.
Is there a working solution for this?

Goto HKCU/Software/Samsung/Camera
Find AudioNormalCodec
the options are:
0 - Default : GSM-AMR-NB 8000Hz 1ch (this is the default but has lots of high pitched noises in the background)
1 - MPEG4 AAC 16000Hz 1ch (this so far is the cleanest audio that I found you can get during video recording)
2 - Qualcomm QCELP 1000Hz 2ch (this is the MMS setting, not good at all for video recording)
I have found this solution, but i can't find "AudioNormalCodec" in my Omnia II...
if you can, pls let me know.

Just came back from a concert yesterday and am really dissapointed about the quality of the sound. picture is just amazing but my girlfriends Galaxy S had way better sound recording. anny progress in this?
I'd read in other thread that unchecking the stereo option in video camera settings the sound was better...

not so sure about that to be honest, recorded at a gig last night with latest revolution hd 4.1.4 rom and the sound was horrible
really would appreciate it if someone knows or could find a way to take the recording volume down a notch or two

Surely there must be an app or developer out there who knows how to fix this mess. Again, another event recording ruined. The htc sensation is fine for unamplified natural voices, but even speech or music at LOW volume is pingy, distorted and generally sux.
The Chic Corea concert I recorded was a total disaster. unticking stereo still not effective. Why does iphone make great recordings, but htc can't get it together? or is this an android issue in general? Don't get me wrong... love android and open source, but really... someone needs to nail this one. Is there any point in complaining to htc? ♥

Natural voices are ok, but this makes two concert video recordings ruined using my htc sensation. the sound is distorted pingy and beyond painful to listen to. Can't some brilliant developer create an app or fix for this? Is there any point complaining to htc, or are they too busy getting out their latest phone?
Sux that iphone video recordings. Natural voice and music is ok, but anything amplified, even at a moderate level, is ping-distortion city. and turning off stereo setting doesn't help much either. Thanks for the whine, now the cheese.
done some digging and i think, from what i read, android wasn't given a facility to lower recording volume. so i guess that plus a highly sensitive mic equals crappy sound recording with no fix, for the time being hopefully
I don't think it has to do with Android. I remember at some point on my Vibrant I was able to change the setting and got much better sound after. It may have been a DSP manager app I did it through or it could have been a setting when I was using CM7. Either way, I'm almost positive there is a way to adjust it.
sound quality
I have found a big improvement in sound quality by UN checking stereo sound in the video recorder setting menu.
+1 on this, I'd love to figure this out
I agree. This is one of the weakest points of the sensation. We have great video capture - but the sound can totally ruin the experience. If a Dev could figure this out it would be golden!
I am not sure about this, just a quick thought. But MAYBE the noise comes from the mics on the back of the sensation? Maybe HTC didn't thought about turning off the those mic's while recording.
Just a thought...
I believe the stereo recording uses the 2nd mic above the camera, while mono just uses the standard mic, that we make calls with. I did some tests just by covering the mic holes while recording.
I just think it would be great if we could have a DEV take a look at how to lower the mic gain.
There is a thread over in the HD2 forums, that deals with edits to some lib files for mic gain, but I don't know if that would be something to take a look at. Here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162224
We need this fixed!
I think the problem is that there is no normal codec for audio coding. Oddly Andoid revolution HD writes with a frequency of 44,100 Hz, but the quality is very poor, although an order of magnitude better than in HyperSensation. Unfortunaly, developer chamber is at the bottom, and understandably so - because enough other bugs.
Just wanted to check in on this old thread and see if this is all still in issue with the Sensation and the latest ICS Roms? Wondering if HTC has fixed the high mic gain by now?
Thanks

[Q] Sound Enhancement in Music player

Hi Guys,
I am having a little issue with my sensation and I want to see if it happens to you as well.
When playing music with the stock HTC player, you have the option to chose sound enhancement, which actually works really well.
My problem is that every time I start listening to music, I need to go and apply the sound enhancement settings, the phone does not remember my preferences.
Does it happens to you too?
Yes. Probably a bug.

[Q] Poor Sound Quality When Using Camcorder

Does anybody know if HTC has acknowledged the problem with poor sound quality when recording video on the Sensation? As in -- it's super loud and distorted even when recording in a relatively quiet environment? This has been the single most disappointing thing about this phone for me.
I have seen a couple of threads started about this but there is not much info out there that I've been able to dig up.
Does anybody have more information about the problem or know of anything that can be done to alleviate it? Even if there's a different video recording app someone can recommend, I'd be happy. (From what I've read it sounds like a software issue -- something with the default codec or volume level being borked. Hopefully it doesn't actually have anything to do with the mic itself.)

[Q] Video playback buzz audio

Hi all, yesterday I installed the Romulus rom and i begin to testing some things, when testing the camcorder I changed the media.stagefright.record parameter to false to record a video and it worked, but when I reproduced the video I hear a buzz in the audio as if the mic was too sensitive, i tried another videos that I record with another roms and I get the same result the buzz in the audio, then i tried some videos that I download from internet (game trailers, movies, etc..) and i dont hear the buzz in the audio, at last my last test was to tried the recorder video in the pc and again i hear the buzz. The thing is when i played another video in the pc that i record with other rom i hear the buzz too, so my question is Has anybody has notice this with any rom ???? Did other roms use some noise reduction to played the videos that the Romulus doesn't have???
Thank's for the help.
cheers
I just made a couple test videos while on Romulus, and I don't have a buzz.. Everything should be mostly stock on Romulus, so sound/video quality should be no worse than out of the box..
Also, what do you mean by reproduce the video? - just play it? Did you have anything plugged into your phone while you were recording (i.e. usb, headphones) that may cause interference?
One thing you can try is check the "Audio Scenes" settings in the camcorder...

When i'm saying reproduce the video i mean play the video (sorry for the confusion) , I didn't have anything plugged to my phone, but maybe your right i didn't check the audio scenes in the camcorder perhaps the solution is there, thank's for the tip i miss that .
By the way nice job with the romulus, i really like it and the mod lockscreen it's great.
Thank's again.

[Q] Best Audio Recording Apps?

Hey guys,
I'm curious to see if there's anyone doing audio recording from their GS3.
I'm a musician so when I'm not at home, I often will just pull my phone out to record new ideas.
In the past I've just used Voice Recorder and it seemed to do alright, but I'm not sure if it's the phone or the app's updates
the quality seems pretty terrible lately. (Possibly something going on from running CM10 and the audio recording drivers??)
Anyone have any suggestions for recording? I don't care about recording calls,
Something that can pick up a solid range from a guitar or bass without sounding like crap.
Thanks in advance!!
Try TapeMachine Recorder its awesome!

I also use Voice Recorder - works fine for me. I would be great if you posted back with results from other apps - especially quality comparison.
iRig Recorder:

Personally I use SoundCloud only because if I want to record a new riff and then I wanna hear it later, I can just go on my computer browser (soundcloud.com) and access everything I recorded. The other nice thing about using SoundCloud is the REC widget which adds a REC button to your home screen to quickly record new stuff!
Once I tried out Voice Pro I realized nothing else is worth my time. Doesn't stop me from trying other stuff, but nothing else can live up to it.
