SOLVED [Q] HELP I formatted my nexus s sd-card in cwm and now i cant reinstall rom - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok here the problem. I have a nexus s and I did wipe of my phone from cwm.
I wiped everything and even formatted everything.
I even went to the format:sd-card option and did that.
didnt think of having a rom on the card before I did the wipe. normally it just formats the file but puts storage space and right folders back in
what is happening now is when i turn on my phone it only comes up with the fastboot bootloader. I can get into cwm but that is about it. when I connect my phone to my computer. to try and access the storage drive. it only shows a blank removable drive(only when I am in cwm) when I am in the boot loader I cant access it. but eiher way i cant access the storage itself.
I have all the right drivers.
I can fastboot, the lastest cwm,( I even try to do a flash with a recovery cwm which was for a 16gb device but it didnt work.
but the only thing I cant do is access the storage itself or install any .zip file to the phone and re-flash my rom!
I have look high and low on google and all over the net and I have not found a solid solution. I have tried just about every thing I can with it
does anyone know or have any tips on fixing this.
is there any way for me to reformat my sd-card and put the files i need on it to install my rom again? or did i just turn my phone into paper weight?
as of now my phone is just a paperweight that charges and lights up.
any tips or help would be great.
Thank you in advance.

Does your phone has external sd slot?

Works like a charm.. Please excuse my brevity.

no it a nexus s it doesnt have one

adb it's work or not ? but if fastboot work you can do almost all....

get into clockwork recovery -> mounts and storage -> mount usb storage
connect to the pc and past there the rom zip... then flash it

if only fastboot work you can try to download system.img and boot.img for your phone and install with :
>fastboot flash boot boot.img
>fastboot flash system system.img
Attention (boot.img and system.img must be at the same rom) . Good luck!

Thank you.

For anyone else with the same problem just use adb to sent cwm 5.0.2.3 to the phone and that will fix it

Thanks for replying ...
Tried to install the USB drivers , ADB /Fastboot tools again after connecting my Nexus S to a computer .But now ran into another issue . Whenever i am in Bootloader i get the following : "Fastboot Mode - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG" .
However i am able to get into CWM .
when i run "ADB devices" command from computer i do not get any list of devices ! If i remove the battery and then put it again i get a device code i.e when i run ADB devices .
I just need something that will show my phone Memory on my PC so that i can dump the ROM there and then flash it .. I guess my phone is gone !!!
Regards
Supreet

If you are able to get into cwm can you connect the phone and in cwm mount usb option while connected. You computer should have the drive come up. Let me know if that works

For some strange reason not able to Mount my Internal storage . Looking into the problem .. Oh boy !!
Thanks for your Reply Alicklee . Have given my phone to a Android geek lets see if he is able to recover it . I have not slept over 2 nights because of my phone.
No phone matches our Nexus S !!

I did the same mistake as wiping the internal sd, i think its corrupted so even with any CWM version, already tried out like 4 of them, i cant seem to mount the /system or usb storage.
I cant even fastboot flash system or userdata, any solutions?

Guys, I just did this about 2 weeks ago. Use the Odin method to put a new from on there. Then you can totally unroot and put back to stock. Then reroot it if you want. I did this exactly and never had a problem again.

[Solved] wont boot after chainfire3d in JB. Fastboot- showing error

I tried installing chainfire3d driver in jellybean( i didnt know then that it is not for JB). Now my nexus wont boot into os. it just stays at the unlocked bootloader logo.
1. I can get into recovery mode
2. I have wiped out the cache and factory reset
3. I dont have a update file in my phone.since nexus dont have an external sd card i cant put any file in it directly.
4. I have tried fastboot -it shows my serial ID and i am able to reboot my phone using it but whenever i try to flash recovery.img or update update.zip it shows "cannot load recovery.img" or "cannot update update.zip"
5. I have tried ADB - on using adb shell it shows "error:device not found"
6. on using Odin (not sure whether it is compatible with Nexus s) it detects my phone. when i tried to flash the stock fireware it fails and my device shows "verify image (radio) fail"
Plz help.Is my phone bricked???????
Ok I don't want to be insulting, but you really REALLY need to read on the whole process of Nexus S rooting and using it.
You don't have to use ODIN at all for something so simple. You simply need to reflash a ROM/your ROM.
Mount your SD from within Clockworkmod recovery and transfer a ROM. Then flash it. Done.
What polo says go to recovery- mount and formay- all the way down "mount sd card". Now your phone will be like a usb drive

[Q] Stuck in "FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG"

My NExus S is stuck on the screen that says:
Fastboot Mode No Boot or Recovery IMg.
Product Name - Herring
HW Version - Rev34
Bootloader Version - D720SPRKC5
Baseband Version - D720SPRLCI
Carrier Inro - SPR
Serial Number 32300E25C33500EC
Lock State - Locked
options to select
Reboot Bootloader (gives me exact same screen) except it only says "Fastboot"
Reboot Back to the "FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG"
Recovery (Can boot to CWM but I can't mount anything)
Power OFF (That works fine)
Then the little green man and the android logo
Followed by USB Control INIT
USB Control INIT End
STANDARD_SET_CONFIGURATION
Conventional wisdom says download some files and fix via fastboot. However in fastbootI can't run ANY of the steps without running FASTBOOT OEM UNLOCK. When I run it my phone asks if I really want to unlock the bootloader. when I choose YEs and hit power it just freezes there.
My next thought Boot to recovery and restore. A restore through recovery followed by a reboot leads me back to the original no boot or recovery img.
Okay I'll just sideload a working rom by mounting usb storage. Then I can flash it with CWM and be up and running.
but when I try to do mount the USB Storage I get "E:Unable to write to ums 1unfile (No such file or directory)"
Finally, Last ditch Effort, I'll load up ODIN and use that to put on a working recovery. there's forums all over the place explaining how to do that right? Well yes, but the links to the Tar file are all broken.
What next my friends? I'd really like to get this phone working.

Same situation for me, because i pressed "Reboot" in CWM without having flashed a Rom (stupid ). Broken power button, hanging on Google logo or in Fastboot mode.
I hope RTK will help me :good:

what about just using adb? Can you find it when you type fastboot devices? If so there's a command in fastboot to reboot to recovery I think.
I on the other hand am screwed. I read in another forum that it hangs on unlock because the internal memory is fubar.

Solution for me:
1. Turn device on into Bootloop
2. Connect it via USB (PC founds it)
3. type in CMD "adb reboot recovery"
4. device is in recovery
5. reflash everything i wanted :good:
Requirement is a working Android-SDK!

[Q] halfbrick? adb doesn't work but Fastboot does

Hi guys,
I wiped everything by mistake in TWRP 2.8.4.0 and now I'm puzzled... I did a FULL (yeah....) wipe before flashing a custom ROM, but then, everything was gone, of course.
I still have access to TWRP ; the bootloader is unlocked ; was on JB 4.2 .
So I tried to put a Rom back into the memory of the Tab, but :
1/ TWRP won't mount my SD card with a ROM on it... Does anyone have an idea why?
2/ adb doesn't recognize the device... but "fastboot devices" does! So I have access to all the fastboot commands.. Sadly, it doesn't flash any .zip.
So I'm guessing I have to solve the SD card problem OR flash a system.img with flashboot...?
I don't know what to do. I read that an older version of TWRP might mount my SDcard, but I'm quite scared to try and flash another recovery, since I'm not sure it will not definitely brick the thing.
Thanks for any answer

But the drivers are already installed, that's why I don't get why adb doesn't work.
as for the MTP, I can't get to it, since there is no ROM installed on the tab anymore : when I switch it on, it stays stuck on the ASUS logo, but is not detected by the computer.
Do you know where I could get an image of a stock firmware to flash with fastboot? or another way to push a file?

Nope you should be able to plug it into a PC and move files to it drag and drop the zip ....
But you should still have adb working, it is a must have when messing with android ...

Sorry i cant give an answer, but MTP should be activated per default at twrp and you should have your device as a drive on PC.
I'm intessted on how did you flash twrp on an unlocked bootloader? I fighting with my tf700 since October to unlock my bootloader to install CyanogenMod. I did a lots of tickets and RMA, which didn't helps.

Well the PC does not see the tablet. I'm quite sure of my drivers since adb worked fine until I messed up (the drivers were installed through the latest version of Asus Pad Pc Suite)... I tried a adb sideload too : no connection.

Tried a thrid, empty brand new sdcard, and it did the trick.
Still don't know why adb wouldn't work, but now it's fine, so... :fingers-crossed:

change your recovery to 4ext
http://d-h.st/rG7
extract the recovery.img and flash it via fastboot command
the command is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then from 4ext format all partitions except sdcard
enable smartflash from 4ext(if you are on S-ON)
flash the rom
done
note: enable smartflash exactly before flashing the rom
i'll give it a try at home. Thank you!
I'll let you know.

Hi guys I tried to flash ''cm-13.0-20151108-UNOFFICIAL-pyramid'' via ''TWRP-2.8.7.0-pyramid-r9-cm13'' but that failed, ever since I am stuck at the HTC logo, I tried to flash numerous older firmwares but try to factory reset/wipe I get an ''unable to format storage'' so any Rom I try fails. It was previously running older version of CM fully rooted which I have fully backed up via CWM but now cant restore is due to TWRP & CWM being incompatible.
I have tried so many ADB commands but ADB only responds when in TWRP any time else like in Fastboot I get absolutely no response at all, I have also tried to flash CWM back any way possible but have failed same with ''4EXT-Recovery-Touch-v1.0.0.5-RC5-PG58IMG''. Also tried RUU but kept on receiving 'Connection Error' even though the USB cable was connected & works fine, also tried using ''Sensation_All-In-One_Kit_v3.1'' no luck either with any of its commands.
I have attached the Bootloader screen if it can help with this boot loop.
I have never has such issues with Samsung Phones so I am a total noob with HTC phones so any help would be really great.
Any help would be really great from this amazing community!
TWRP has broken my partition table. I cannot format via parted due to the fact it now has 'overlapping partitions'. No recovery can fix this including 4ext. Completely stuck at the minute. I don't want to use a microsd card as storage when I have internal storage available. Is there anyone that can help or has had any success? I am S-OFF and bootloader UNLOCKED.
Tried stock RUU via P58..zip and get's stuck part way through (I think at system or SD)
Help! I'm sure there's someone that can fix the partition table. The format of the internal storage sd is fat32 - which I believe is where the problem started from. I don't want to let this problem defeat me although I have spent an age trying to sort it...too late to give up
Any help is highly appreciated.
Cheers

Yeah how did you do it? Too late for me now though as my device is S-OFF and I'm stuck in QHUSB_DLOAD bricked mode. I have tried unlimited.io's s-off etc no joy. Wonder if there is ever going to be anything that can take me out of this apart from jtag.

What I've done has been, through a PC with Windows Vista (I have been unable to get anything with Windows 8 onwards ), I installed the HTC One X All In One tool, and in the part where the recoverys are located, there are three (CWM, TWRP and other), I went to the Data / Recoveries folder and I deleted the TWRP, replacing this with an image of 4EXT Recovey Touch, and putting the same name that has the recovery erased. Then I went to the tool, I installed TWRP (which was 4EXT which replaced it) and my Sensation revived. Good luck!
For me it is not loading to 4ext, after flashing it..... stuck at htc logo. if i install twrp or cwm it boots to it... any idea how to fix it?

Bricked?

Hey everyone, so I usually know how to solve these situations, but this is different. I was trying to flash a rom so wiped everything from recovery and then realized that there is nothing on the sd card. I tried booting the phone but it is stuck at the google logo. Here is the problem: I am not able to get into bootloader/recovery mode and cant boot into the software. Does this mean the device is hard bricked?
Thannk You
ok so i am in recover/bootloader. when i am in twrp i can adb reboot to bootloader, but when i try to push a file it says device not found
No, it means u wiped everything and now need to sideload a new ROM, u will need a PC in order to do it, in twrp there is an advances section, in there is the adb sideload option, download the ROM and gapps to PC, and if u use windows use one of the toolkits to sideload the ROM u wanna flash, if Linux, use the terminal and type
adb sideload "name of ROM here".zip
Let it do its thing and ur all set, or u could just use the PC to dl the files then use a USB to transfers the ROM to the phone and flash it
PS, didn't see u can't get into recovery, have u tried long pressing power and volume, or whatever ur devices button combo is for recover?

Try holding down power, when it starts to reboot, switch to vol- and hold that till it boots to twrp, at worse u may need to use a PC and adb to boot to fastboot mode

I recommend starting from scratch by flashing a stock MM ROM, then TWRP, and then a custom ROM.

That's what I would do at this point, what kind of PC are u using, it could be as simple as defining USB access, which I can help u with if your using Linux or Ubuntu
