It's been a while when we receive an ota for our nexus s. I was surprised that older version of ics is running much smoother than than the new ones and to be precised its much more stable than our own nexus s ics. That been hammered by bugs lately that cause google to temporarily pulled the update for our phones. We hope google can fix the issues about android os bugs that minimize our phone batteries and the performance of our phone. Because of this instability issues i recoved my old back up and running smooth again with it. My rom is kang dec142011 and my kernel that giving my long battery life and pretty snappy performance is seuv alpha13b btw.
For me, everything in 4.0.3 is much smoother and less buggy. The only problem for me seems to be the battery bug.
I can't say I agree with you. The builds of 4.0.3 that I've tried have all been faster and less buggy than any of the 4.0.1 builds I ran.
I'm on a 9020a and the 4.0.1. seems to be much better. Doing a nandroid backup of 4.0.3 and reverting.

Give Eugene's 3.0.13 stock kernel a try, smoothest I've tried and there aren't any bugs I can find. Only thing is Voodoo hasn't been updated to work with it yet. I haven't tested the battery life.

Yes it is, with some mods added to it like the notification bar displaying battery percentage and some other nice mods.

Have flashed all the roms available for g2x and backed up.
Using Eagleblood as the daily driver and switch back to cm7 when a new nighty comes. Faux123 has a new aosp rom out there and looks promising.
Had a busy weekend flashing, thanks to all the devs

You should test a little bit more 2.3. The revamped version of it seems to be pretty awesome.
I tested my GPS on 2.3 EB 1.03 and it was working pretty good.
Well I've ran them all and it's a good question. If I had to choose I would go with the leaked GB rom right now. Unfortunately it caused lockups and reboots for me every few hours. It seemed to run great other then that. So if it is not locking up or not causing you problems then I'd do that.
I haven't tried EaglesBlood 1.0.3 yet but I have it on my SD card waiting. I've heard good things but it is based off the leaked build thus I'm assuming will reset my phone like the leaked build.
So I'm running CM7 #9 right now and it is pretty good. It doesn't like playing 3D games as a few I tried lock up the device. I had one time where the phone was stucknon the lock screen and I had to do a battery pull as the power button wouldn't respond.
So while CM7 is getting there, it is far from being perfect as it is still in it's early stages. If stock GB works then go that route or EaglesBlood if you want something a little more custom.me personally I like the look of stock and nothing pre-themed. The other available Roms are still buggy with their radios which doesn't make them good candidates for a daily driver.

Ok im a sense ui lover, and recently tried the new nightlies for a couple of weeks and im rather enjoying the stableness of it over the sense roms. now my question is with this nightlies build im on it says 2.3.7 something like that. i noticed on kernal manager lite that v9 and scary are for 2.3.5... will that cause a issue. im currently on nightlies build 214.
Update: also which kernal is more stable and better overall

Difference between 2.3.5 - 2.3.7 google wallet support for the Nexus S. And a few updated core apps and security fixes. Nothing much else as far as I can tell. The 2.3.5 kernels work perfect.
And PershootV9 is probably the best kernel available to date. It's updated and its amazing

Mind you that each shift is different because of the different hardware versions floating out there. Tiamat is unstable and Perfshoot is a horrible performer for me, meanwhile, ScaryKernel rocks on my phone. Best thing to do is try each kernel and find out which performs the best for your phone.
Scary Stable runs great on every nightly I've flashed.

quick question. do i have to wipe Dcache and cache 3x each before flashing new rom??

Try Walking the cpu up don't just install and set as high as feel. Work it up higher slowly. You should be able to hit at least 1.7

Enjoy Scary kernel!
Hello everyone! This is my first post but I am a long timeme user of the forums.
So normally I am pretty good with this stuff as I understand a lot about this but I simply can't find a good rom and kernel that is also ICS. Currently I have BrainMasters MIUI 2.3.7 ROM, with the MIUI Trinity kernel.
I tried a few ICS ROMs and I love ICS but all the roms have some sort of problem. Ultimate ICS 2 had constant lock ups on me and my phone doesn't take kindly to over clocking. At all. Cyanogen Mod alpha 18 works okay but it gets very slow once all my apps are on it and it barely multitasks. Apps seem to close whenever left making multi tasking useless. Another one I tried was one that was super charged but the problem here was all super charged ones have done is close the app if left for a few seconds again making multitasking void.
Currently this ROM works no problem but I want to very badly move to ICS goodness. Also if some one can help my phone over clock better that would be nice. Am I doing anything wrong?
Thanks, cheers.
Okay. Here are a few roma you have to try.
1) peter alfonso's ICS rom (download at download.peteralfonso.com then in the crespo section)
2) AndroidME rom v1.1 is in development section here on xda.
3) CM9 kangs. (Download from
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/skankwich/crespo/ and use the latest g-apps from cm9 alfa18)
That are the roms i like the most. The peteralfonso rom is bugless.
But now im on androidME v1.1 with eugene's speedy-2 kernel. Speed, battery life and stability. Just what I need
Hope this helps..

Peter Alfonso's ROM (check general section) is good. Used it for two weeks without any hitch until i decided to explore other options. Currently on AOSP+ Neapolitan ICS 2.0.3 with no major complaints.
If you want other kernels, matrix and Glados have treated me well so far. I always OC to 200/1200 and have enough battery life for every day.
Even the stock ROM seems to have problems (for me the main issue is that battery is definitely worse than on GingerBread), maybe we should wait for a while to let things settle down.

real stable and fast ROM, maybe with eugene's kernel or GladOs 2.6
Pixel's stock rom with the Simply kernel were rock solid for me. I'm now trying Eugene's kernel with Pixels rom, and that also appears to be working very well!

Hi guys,
I decided I want to flash an ICS rom to my nexus S.
Question I have though, is what will work for my phone, which is a 9020A (AT&T) and what rom would give me the closest to stock ICS like what OTA ICS would be?
I was thinking cyanogenmod 9 but I have used CM7 and remembered it being sort of a hassle...
I really want the facial unlock feature if possible. I don't know if it's native in ics or what but I want that.
Tell me why you think the rom you suggest is best, please. I want to know what the pros and cons to it are. And links would be really nice!
Thanks!
stock ics
I'm happy with the stock 4.0.3, I tested Peter Alfonso nightlies lately but I was annoyed by his adjusted auto brightness however it seems to be very popular and smooth and fast.
Stock runs great on my i9023 and there are no killer features in any stock like rom yet imho. But I'm using a custom kernel which is imho always better than the stock kernel.
edit: face unlock is useless since it recognizes nothing and is less secure than a pin or a pattern
Im using the same model phone as you are and running cybergr ics v3. Its by far the best rom so far.. try it, he has alot of extra features.. daily rom. In a couple of days v4 is coming out.
I just flashed revolution HD 4.2.3 this morning with speedy 4 kernel and this is definitely the best combination I've used so far.

I still use the DrewGaren ROMS, they are plenty fast and stable, along with the latest Glados Kernel They seem to give me the best results.
Stand corrected. cybergr ics v3 is a really fast ROM, probably the fastest i've ever seen my phone, just need to update it to v2.8 Glados
Face Unlock is a cool feature. Unfortunately, our front camera is too bad to properly recognize faces. If you get lucky - in good light - you might be able to unlock it, but it really is no fun at all.

Works great. No radio flash needed. Install went smooth aside from a few derps on my part. Rom seems a bit laggy but I think it's just because it's reinstalling everything. other times it's blown me away by how fast it is. Face unlock works pretty well. love the interface. I can't believe it's android, its awesome!
I've tested almost every ICS rom's available and right now KANGY6 with MATRIX v14.5 CFS it's the best combo for me.
i'm getting 3000+ on Quadrant with 1.46Ghz OC
You may try the CYBERGR ROM it's also very stable and fast.

ok, I dun goofed. I think I restored a system app on accident thinking that it would restore my messages or something... but my mobile data quit working when i restored that stuff (multiple restores, but thought i was just restoring user apps not system). any idea how to fix the mobile data without re-flashing?
Edit: Fixed, but lost my conversations in my messaging. Oh well. At least the android gods love me again. Anyways this rom is great, it works perfectly! So smooth!
Hi all,
After owning a One S for nearly 2 years now, my battery drain problems get worse and worse. Before it was updated to JB, the battery life was much better, but I haven't had much luck with either Sense JB or CM 10.
I thought I'd try an ICS ROM to get me through to June (when I can upgrade), but can't find CM 9 for the One S on the CM website - can anyone advise which ROM to install?
Thanks

The ICS rom's are all listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789812. The problem as you say will be download links, if you like sense try viper 1.2.1, that link still works. From my experience the sense rom's have much better battery management than AOSP. Or you could completely go back to stock ICS/JB using an RUU. For the record, the best battery life I've had on this phone is with MaximusHD. Also it could be that there is a problem with the battery and the ROM won't make a difference.
