Is there a way to remove the quick search bar? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't get why they chose to leave it there in the OTA version since the Nexus S already has a search button and clicking on it does the same as clicking on the search bar..
It just takes more space for no reason..
I love the stock launcher but I just want that search bar gone.. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks!

Manage apps > All (may need to scroll the top menu) > Google Search > Disable
BUT, the space taken of the search bar stay empty. You can't put any icons there

There anyway to bring it back?

download widgetsoid. it is a free app that will let you do it yourself. it takes a little time to figure out, but it does the job.
there is a walk through on the web somewhere. i will try to find it.
yeah, i have done the widget, as well as the widget seting app. its not the same.. i would like the actual mod. but i do appreciate the useless plug to an inferior widget.
If you find a better solution, let me know. I was happy to find widgetsoid. It is not perfect, but it serves a purpose until something better comes along. I have no relation to the dev of the app and I am not plugging it for anyone.
The widget goes in the notification bar and you are able to pick what goes there. My complaint is the icons are low resolution and a lot of the color combos did not work for me. However, I eventually was able to get it to work.
how do you put the widget in the notification bar for widgetoid??

Click to collapse
it requires a pita setup, or you can download status bar settings from the market and it does it for you.
the icons are terribly low res...

Click to collapse
long press your screen to add a widget
pick the widgetsoid switcher 4*1
select the 4 toggles that you want
go to theme and for "choose bottom color" do custom color and use black
for "choose icon color" use black
go to advanced and check notification, give it a label
check widget invisible
hit apply
That should put the widget in your notification bar.
Another app that will do it is notification toggle. I have not tried it yet, but it is also free.
I'm also looking for this.
Notification Toggle uses way too much space with all of the text and large icons. I want a horizontal bar of icons, not a vertical list of icons + text. Plus a lot of the toggles either don't work or don't do what I would like. Something better is needed.

[Q] Homescreen Customize Question

Hi There!
Is it possible to get rid of this small white bar which scrolls left/ride depending on which Homescreen you are ?
Thx !!
I believe it's Launcher Pro screen indicator. I'm not using it right now but I guess you can find the settings from your Home Screen > Menu > Preferences or something similar.
Thanks man found it +1

Is there a "taskbar" app or mod?

Since we have navbar overlays already, I'm searching for something to put apps down there. Similar to a Windows taskbar, having navigation all to the left and then having the option to add four or so apps as quick launch options.
Does such a thing exist?
I'm not sure about launch apps, but Custom navigation bar app (beta) you can add 2 more buttons down there.
I'm putting screenshot and power.
Edge Panel
Probably not what you wish to see, but you could go the easiest way and just customize your edge panel...
