As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
So was it strange that I was never told this thread even existed and had no idea until just now? For anyone still having problems, a few troubleshooting techniques:
-When installing, are you sure you cleared cache and dalvik? If coming from a major release to a major release, did you do a full wipe instead?
-Are you using the proper radio, as posted in the first post of the thread?
-Are you using any task managers or antivirus apps?
i just flashed 1.2.11 to my phone which i decided to finally root after about 4 months, and i love it. I installed barnacle due to the stock hotspot debacle and when i go to use it it tells me that NAT is not connected. now here at work, where i am testing it, i dont have great connection but i can get 3g to work here. what does it mean when NAT does not connect?
Sorry, no answer here on the hotspot issue. Have you PMd Mister ClearD? He is very responsive and has been working hard on this whole hotspot issue... he'd likely be very interested in your problem.
I too am running 1.2.11, and am delighted with it. However, I am wondering if there is any way to get more volume out of the speaker for ringtones and alarms. I have them maxed out on the phone's adjustments, but it's still awfully quiet.
Michael look for an app called volume+ made by meltus I believe in the market. It works with gingerbread but not froyo. There is a few other fixes for the volume limit but I can't link them currently because I am on my phone. Do a search for it and it should come up. If someone doesn't post it up.

Hello,
Last night I flashed the latest ClearDroid ROM 1.1.51, but when I check under the software information menu, it says the Android version is 2.2.1
The flash seems to work because it says it's running Cleardroid.
Shouldn't it be running the Gingerbread (2.3) update or am I mistaken?
Also, the data connection seems to screw up, and only works when it wants. Sometimes ROM Manager will disappear from the apps menu.
I did a full wipe before flashing and it still won't work.
I also just flashed CoreDroid and it did update to 2.3 , but I want my stock HTC theme back!
Thanks!

The version 1.1.51 is still on froyo build but has the new ril for gingerbread. On the first page of the Dev post he has a link to the matching radio. Give it a flash and see if it helps with your data connection. If you want gingerbread his version 1.2.xx is the gingerbread Rom (still in beta), it has the fix for messaging but he is still working on tethering. It's still the stock look to the dot
On the app side I don't know what could be going on there, sorry I couldn't help on that point, (since I'm not having that particular error)

im personally running 1.2.12 RC2 which is his latest Beta, along with the suggested radio. i dont have any problems with network and it looks and behaves great while keeping that stock look. honestly i love this ROM. if you have any major questions just send ClearD a PM and he will get back to you. probably my favorite dev because he is so thorough and responsive to his followers.

to post my own answer ClearD told me that 1.2.12 has a working tether program. he is still working on making the stock tether work but for now the one he has included in the rom works great so no need for barnacle
Thanks Pytheous and Hiyabuz! I'll give the latest beta a shot because last night I flashed the rooted AT&T stock rom and my battery life improved but I'm still having data problems. Now I'm not sure if it's my cell company or the ROM that's causing the problems.
I'm afraid of flashing the radio and losing my signal completely!

This ROM, from what i can tell, is basically a stock ROM with all of the bloatware crap taken out, and a few cool gadgets added here and there. I love the ROM and the way it feels, but what i love the most is the responsiveness of the Dev for the ROM. If i have an issue i just send him a PM and he either sends me an answer or gets to work on it right away.
as for the radio i flashed the reccomended one on his original dev post and i actually get better signal in most places.
I also have another question of my own. i wanted to test out the GPS last night and it seemed a little more sluggish than stock. i could be immagining things but i was wondering if anyone else was having this problem also.

ok thanks buz. i just wanted to check
i only used it for about 3 min so it wasnt a very good judge of use
For example yesterday I retried mine first reconnect of gps after upping to new radio took 5 mins without vase and was sluggish. With case it took almost 10, today with case on first lock took 14secs with an 8 sat lock inside and using my case. its been awesome since he put in the gps fix. B4 it could take up to 30 mins for first lock without my case and it was only like 4 sats.

Noob here, I flashed the ClearDroid 1.2.12 rom a couple of days ago and love it. The only thing i want to change is the secure box in the messages menu. I would like to hide it or remove it, is it possible? Any help is appreciated, I did search I swear I did.
Will the Tiny audio fix work with this rom?
Issues with using latest gingerbread build.
Hello CleardDroid team;
I am a big fan your ROM, it works great on my phone. I have some serious issues using this ROM;
1) I am unable to compose message, when i try to compose message it force closes. I have tried alot to fix the issue but unable to resolve it. I have cleared its data, restarted it, fix the permissions using ROM manager, but failed to fix the issue.
2) Hotspot is not working, but I guess you are working on it.
I want to go back to GB as I'm not satisfied with the ICS ROMs I've tried (only had this phone a few weeks). Dev board is flooded with ICS, any GB suggestions?

I highly reccomend Oxygen, only problem I ever had with it was sending and recieving mms. Other than that I say it is lightening fast and stable.
Were you able to fix the mms issue?

Peter Alfonso's GPA19 ROM is the most stable one that I tried. Look for Peter Alfonso's site and click the Downloads link for crespo. I would post a link here, but XDA's nonsense won't allow it.
Download the 12-07-11 one to get the latest GB version. There aren't a lot of customizations like CM, Oxygen, MIUI, etc., but it's stable as hell. The latest Oxygen (2.3.2) has a REALLY obnoxious, and largely ignored, backlight notification bug where you have to reboot to get the lights to go out... only way I've ever found to fix it is to install another kernel. However, Peter Alfonso's got one of those too... just go to his site and it should be on the second page of the "blog."
I know you said you didn't like ICS, and I didn't either at first, but Pete's ICS ROMs are also great and very stable. The latest is 01-30-12, and you can get it from the same crespo download page.
question.
hey man i got a question, could i use peter alfonso's rooted stock rom for gingerbread (right?) when downgrading, right? instead of re rooting it.

Wow, really. I don't have any ICS envy seeing how sweet those kangs are. They're smooth as butter and stable too! Checking my phone, my current uptime is 132 hours (5.5 days) since my last reboot, which was to flash the latest kang back then.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Both of his ROMs are pre-rooted, so no, you won't have to re-/root anything. But since you're going from ICS to GB you'll have to wipe everything, so there's no real "downgrade" path.
From a rooting perspective, the only difference I've noticed, that's kind of annoying, is that his GB ROM contains busybox and his ICS ROM doesn't. It's not a deal-breaker since there are Market apps to add it in, but it's kind of annoying that the binary has to be re-linked after each update/flash.

Im asking that if i can reverted back to gingerbread version without loosing root, may i install his pre-rooted stock without loosing root. Thats all, but since you mentioned it, im relived to revert it back. but i couldnt find his link could you provide me one? Also is it regular to flash it back to gb or is there a special method to do it?
I can't post links yet because our fine friends at XDA say that I need to post more for the privilege. Pfft.
You should be able to type peter alfonso downloads crespo and get to the page. 12-07-11 is the latest GB version (GPA19).
There's no "special" method for flashing, just do what you would do when going from one incompatible ROM to another... wipe data/factory reset, format cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvik cache. There are probably a million different combinations that different people will give you for the proper install, but that's what I normally do.
Tryout CyberGR's CM7 MOD and you won't go back:

Don't mean to hijack the thread but what if I wanted to put a custom GB ROM on top of stock GB rom. I'm curious if you can just flash without wiping? Or should I do titanium backup instead?

Hi All,
I have a 727R that I have setup with Touch CWM & Superlite 5.1 ICS ROM.
I do have a couple of questions concerning my setup.
1- Is there a way that I can replace the ATT address book with the default ICS contacts?
2- I have A full version of titanium backup with a folder full of apps from another device that I would like to import into this one. Where do I put that folder for titanium backup to load and recognize?
3- Can I change the phone dialer to the stock ICS too?
4- Why wont ROM manager recognize the CWM touch that I have installed?
Thanks

Ditch SKY ICS and get an AOSP based rom like CM9, Chimaira, or AOKP. That would solve #1 and #3, personally I hate touchwiz at least the skyrocket version of it (My friend has an S3 and that version looks interesting). SKY ICS is a damn good rom but I personally just prefer AOSP, clean, fast, and simple. No added samsung, rogers, or AT&T bloat.
If you do decide to to get an AOSP based rom, you should check out Boobah's mod as one of the many things it lets you do is use inverted gApps (Will fix the ugly white blue colour scheme). Just don't use inverted google talk, it's broken.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732304
Not sure on your other two questions.
Hi Rabidsmurf,
I would am dumping the touchwiz rom and going cm9 as we speak. I am just annoyed that the 4G icon doesn't work on the aosp, aokp roms that I have tried so far.

Yeah, annoying but a small sacrifice, you could try AOKP or Chimaira, both supposed to be excellent ROMS, they are based on CM9 and will have the same bugs, not sure if they have a 4G icon or not.
Grab one of the CM9 nightlies instead of the Alpha5, it has some extra fixes:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=skyrocket&type=nightly
I am using the July 2nd 2012 nightly currently, have not tried the more recent ones.
Since you're going AOSP (master race), you may also want to give Instigators Kernel a look see... supposedly it saves battery, I haven't noticed.
It did break my camera though (A common issue) so you will probably want to try a version 2.8 or earlier (Maybe one of the stable ones), that did not have the problem. I am on 3.2.

Awesome Rabidsmurf, thanks for all this.

No problem, also don't forget about Boobah's mod I linked you earlier (AROMAKoK) it's seriously awesome, and you can use it to customize your ROM after you flash it.
I also reflashed to the UCLE2 radio earlier today the one on CM9's page with the RIL libraries, seems a bit more stable:
http://www.teamchopsticks.org/p/install-guide.html
I've upgraded my Rogers Infuse with CM10 Jellybean and have had many issues with it freezing and not letting me answer incoming calls, etc. and camera app jittering while recording video.
I was told that the android 2.3 is the most stable version for this phone. But when I have had issues getting stock ROM for Rogers Infuse. In this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248 the download links direct to lnx.lu and tries to get me to install iLividSetup.exe which is a virus. The links are basically dead.
I've tried installing other roms just to get back to stock with lots of problems but eventually got ZEUS rom installed. They say that its stable but this rom is either very buggy or I didnt install it properly. The built-in apps have are there but their icons have been erased and have been renamed to com.android. and when I try to launch any of them it says that the app is not installed on the phone. Im talking about necessary apps like play store, etc. So I cant use the phone like this.
I need help with getting my Rogers Infuse back to stock or a very stable install. Thanks in advance for any help I can get on this.
I would suggest odin back to stock or heimball one click explained in many threads in the dev section. I use Aeon rom wich works better then stock for me. But i dont think u will find the 2.3.3 rogers rom anywere . Pm me if u do i want it lol . U will have to go with an att 2.3.6 wich will still be considered stock rom and will work on rogers. I was using att rom with Bell canada

It has been a long day of researching on unlocking my aunts SGH-T959W . I have finally finished rooting the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956025
My phone has the following status atm:
Firmware:2.3.6
Build no.: Gingerbread.WUQL86
kernel: 2.6.35.7-blastoff-v2
Blastoff does not detect any network signal, and hence I have to install another ROM
However, I am having a bit problem making a decision which ROM to install, since this is not even my phone and I am not sure.I was looking at this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs
Basically I just want a stable ROM for her phone, and something fast.
One thing particularly confusing is, how can I install ICS kernels into a Gingerbread ROM, that is just not compatible. And if you guys can provide links that would be useful, THANKS !
With blast off kernel you can flash any ics or jb roms. Ics is solid except for wifi calling and the battery won't go for days...maybe one day. Jb needs some work still gps doesn't work and wifi is broke on 4.2.2. If you're after something stable and wifi calling isn't a deal breaker go with any ics and proton kernel. O and the latest cm9 has broken video but proton kernel fixes it.
I can vouch for CM9 with the Proton kernel. Ultragen is supposed to be good too. If the JB ROMs haven't got GPS and WiFi working when I get The Urge, I'm trying that combo.
Btw, Google Voice works for WiFi calling. It doesn't show as the cell phone number at the recipient's phone tho.

Ahh I don't need gps xD.
There are some interface changes going from gb to ics I like. Valhalla Black and CM7 were the, two GB ROMs I used other than stock, and I liked them both for different reasons.
Usually I try a different ROM because the one I'm on flakes due to a bad app, sun spots or sumthin'. If I gotta wipe and reflash, I figure may as well try something new.
I miss swype and the office app from the stock ROMs, but I like the overall experience better with the custom ROMs.
From a security standpoint, you really have no idea if the devs can be trusted, but that's not to say SAMSUNG or Google are implicitly trustworthy either. Just saying... For that matter, having private info on a smart phone isn't probably the most secure idea either. You pick the risks you find acceptable.
One of those risks is taking on the tech support for a phone you don't own

It's probably because our wiki is outdated. Forgive us.
What matters is the version of cwm that you're using. Blastoff has 5.0.xx I forget which exact version is in the kernel. Anyway then you should be good to go. I'm not sure you still have to go to cm9 first. I think all our roms have the right stuff to take you from blastoff to wherever.

I have been really careful regarding what i do to the phone since yesterday as it is not my phone, that is why I have been asking all possible questions before starting anything . I know unlocking and rooting are two different things , but in order to unlock you need to root.
Ok so I am flashing to CM9 now , after that should flash to a different ROM, like CM10 or should I just stick to CM9 or move to Ultragen. blastoff is a battery drainer, i got up this morning it went from 100% to 30% O_O

You'll be able to flash any MTD rom from any other MTD/BML rom. The problem will be going from MTD back to BML but you probably won't want to do that.
As was mentioned, you will need a kernel with CWM 5.x+. You can find the blastoff kernel if you go back a few pages in the development forum.
As for which ROM to install? I recommend Team Acid's AOKP (link in my signature) using the Proton ICS kernel (by beastmode). It's been a very stable combination for me.

You'll be able to flash any MTD rom from any other MTD/BML rom. The problem will be going from MTD back to BML but you probably won't want to do that.
As was mentioned, you will need a kernel with CWM 5.x+. You can find the blastoff kernel if you go back a few pages in the development forum.

what are the chances of me going back to BML rom, so once I upgrade to custom ICS based roms, I can flash different roms that are only related to ICS and JB, and not Gingerbread, since it a version behind? So if I went to CM9 , i can easily switch AOKP with proton ics kernel or ICBINB ?
Thanks FB , I followed your post for rooting it was really useful. Also I thought BML and MTD, are just file systems or type of mapping, why are they supported in kernel level and not ROM level?
