Works
Has anyone got a result that's not "Secure"? So you know it works.

Take a look also to AndroTotal (andrototal.org).
It is specifically thought to scan suspicious Android APKs against multiple antivirus apps, so that you can easily have an idea of the app maliciousness.

Thanks alot. Though link shifted to http://scan.nq.com/
also virustotal works fine too.

Sites got major problems......
Sites got major problems, it wont upload a file to check it, at the time I'm posting this.
15min to up an apk, still no go.
I used Firefox and Comodo Dragon, not going to bother with IE.

Just btw., I might've thought you had a virus too - as you (apparently, LOL) had considered MSIE. xD

I checked out the web site. So far it's a complete failure.

So the new windows mobile site pretty much sucks
I’ve caught some hype about new versions of the windows mobile apps coming out this week, so I decided to check it out. I was completely underwhelmed.
The servers are dead slow, they’re full of popups, and it basically boils down to two pages that say “download now!” that direct to each other. There’s no actual download.
Don’t believe the hype, this one is a fail.

Great idea, horrible execution.
Looks awsome, but a copy from apple

Maybe the software isn't out yet...
I just want it (software version) to be available for WM 6.1 users.
Guys you want to buy from MS? Did you think about the excellent support they're going to offer? Ha ha..
Check out the new Windows Mobile App Store at www.WinMoAppStore.com Excellent support, No download protection or other crappy hidden costs!
Regards,
Carty..

Then why do they have download links all over? I think that was part of my point.

Anti-Virus and Firewall - Needed on WM?

I just installed a pretty slick little program that claims to be an antivirus, firewall, data backup, phone locator, etc. But that got me wondering... I would never ever connect my pc to the internet without heavy-duty firewall and antivirus software running. But I've never had it on my HTC HD2 running WM 6.5.5. Is it even necessary?
I've never seen an alert about a virus on this board or any blog/column sites. Is such software needed? Is it just a case of "playing it safe"?
Thought?
Thanks!
It's not really worth having any Antimalware or firewall on a Windows Mobile device. There have been very minor virus problems on Windows Mobile before, but the Antivirus applications were never any help until months after the viruses were discovered (since there are no Heuristics and the databases are generally updated monthly).
IMHO it's completely unnecessary on a phone and will only slow the device, so don't bother. Besides, while not the most elegant solution, the myriad of data/contact backup applications which could be used along side a hard reset could pretty much fix all the damage done by malware (provided the malware is not backed up as well!)
IF you plan on flashing roms at the rate of a normal member here you do not need antivirus. After a Hard reset the virus will be inoculated. Also getting a virus is very unlikely om wm.

How do I prevent the fancy unit conversion tool etc from sending my phone number and my e-mail address (real name) to the manufacturer who then sells the data?
How do I prevent various apps from connecting to the internet and wasting my data volume?

One cannot say that there are 0 viruses for WinMo, but they are so less that an anti-virus is not really required.
Just watch where from and what you are installing and you should be fine.
Thread direction seems to be right. The topic is about AVs and firewalls.
I do not believe that an AV is of major importance. But I can hardly live without a firewall.

Problems using 3mktPlace

I know xda does not support this type of program but Im not asking how to crack any software.
If anyone has experience with this please help.
When I type in something in the search on 3mktPlace for example.. "Slacker" I get one result. I right click it and click download. Nothing happens, it just immediately adds one to the error count box.
What am I doing wrong?
try doubleclick. same result?
yup. what version is working for you? I am running v0.5
0.6.4
mod edit, warez removed

I had the same problem downloading only-mango apps, try "3mktplace mango" in google search, I found a working version in a chinesse web
i´m too
Try changing the store field to your region and more importantly the store field to the right of region to 'zest' if you are searching under say htc, samsung, dell, etc... you will only find apps specific to that store. Say you were in samsung and seached for an app that is not in that store it will bring up nothing. zest will search windows marketplace store.

Has my N5 been hacked?

I keep getting popups:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
When I hit the 'back' button I get:
Something is also opening Google Play to a page for a specific app. I haven't paid much attention but the last time it was for a dating app. I thought that maybe I hit the advertising banner on some page or another, but I've been more careful about that and these still keep coming up.
I'm running 5.0.1, not rooted and using the Nova launcher. The only unauthorized (not from the Play Store) app installed is one I wrote.
Where are these coming from?
Thanks!
You're not hacked, those are popups which website use to infect/earn money on people. Just don't tap on it and you should be fine.
Yes, you've been hacked by anonymous.
Thanks.

Security software, or even AdAway should do it.
I had already tried CM and it found no threats beyond a lot of cookies. I uninstalled it and tried Sophos. It identified Real Piano as an app that could serve unwanted ads. I uninstalled Real Piano and so far have not seen these popups any more.

I'm glad Sophos helped. People believe that there are no malware threats on Android. Unsolicited adware can even be more bothersome as they are installed inside of applications but can run whether or not the application is active (malware!)
You might be interested in Mobile Security|NowSecure (ViaForensics) for further insight into where your installed applications are connecting.

Occasionally, some sites (including xda several months ago) will serve up similar fake (scareware) ads when they detect a mobile Android device. If you have installed adaway, these ads are usually not presented. Or if you aren't rooted, try out Ghostery browser from the play store. Works pretty good too.
Make sure you have the option to install from unknown sources (settings/security) disabled as a precaution.
(If you notice these ads on reputable sites, do contact the site administrators. XDA got the issue fixed 2-3 days after I reported it to them)

Thanks for your attention! Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post links as a new user...
hello, this app is very very useful, been trying to find something like this ages. I am wondering why i couldnt find it that easy. Also it is not on google play, weird. I would like to talk to dev, but whwere should i find dev? thanks!
This scanner is probably the best scanner than any of 'ram cleaner, antiviruses' on google play which are battery drainers. VirusTotal is the best one!
OP are you at least alive?
